Celebrity deepfakes on TikTok | Matt Connarton Unleashed
Speaker 1: And one more quick story before we run out of time.
Speaker 1: This is from Digital Music News. AI generated Taylor Swift, Rihanna,
Speaker 1: and Kim Kardashian scams are surging on TikTok, so beware.
Speaker 1: If you are on TikTok, beware of AI deep fakes.
Speaker 1: And this is of course going to become a larger
Speaker 1: and larger problem. It says here and again this is
Speaker 1: from Digital Music News. Online scammers are using AI deep
Speaker 1: fakes of celebrities like Taylor Swift and Rihanna to trick
Speaker 1: TikTok users into signing up for fake rewards programs. Over
Speaker 1: the past month, TikTok has experienced a rise in videos
Speaker 1: of AI generated celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Kim Kardashian,
Speaker 1: encouraging users to sign up for fraudulent rewards programs or
Speaker 1: other malicious services. Fortunately, this is synthetic celebs aren't very
Speaker 1: convincing and feature a lot of uncanny facial movements in
Speaker 1: a synchronious audio A synchronous audio sorry I added a
Speaker 1: syllable there. A synchronous audio meaning the audio is not
Speaker 1: properly SYNCD. But that doesn't stop scammers from baiting the hook.
Speaker 1: According to copy leaks, Besides just scammy ads, the deep
Speaker 1: fakes also include hyper sexualized ads promoting non consensual face
Speaker 1: and body swapping or digital undressing. Examples of the clips
Speaker 1: include a digitally altered Tailor Swift advertising a so called
Speaker 1: TikTok pay feature, and a similarly altered Rihanna pushing a
Speaker 1: views for reward program. Usually, the celebrities appear in red
Speaker 1: carpet interviews or on podcasts or talk shows, where it's
Speaker 1: easier for bad actors to take real footage and manipulate
Speaker 1: it using AI. The clips have realistic sounding voices, which
Speaker 1: more easily trick users into believing the footage is legitimate.
Speaker 1: Many of the clips use TikTok branding and ad textured
Speaker 1: filter filters, seemingly to bypass the PLATF forms AI detection tools.
Speaker 1: If users click on the videos, they will be redirected
Speaker 1: to third party sites that solicit their personally identifiable information
Speaker 1: that should be a giant red flag. The timing is
Speaker 1: notable since Taylor Swift recently trademarked to protect her voice
Speaker 1: and likeness from AI misuse following repeated incidents with deep fakes.
Speaker 1: But the problem is widespread and shows no signs of
Speaker 1: slowing down. Meta was recently hit with a class action
Speaker 1: lawsuit filed on behalf of the Consumer Federation of America
Speaker 1: with allegations that the company profited from Facebook advertising scams
Speaker 1: like the ones proliferating on TikTok. Similarly, the FTC noted
Speaker 1: that scam ads are one of the top methods used
Speaker 1: to push shopping related scams on social media, and AI
Speaker 1: is only making that problem worse. By the way, just
Speaker 1: to editorialize a little bit on that, if you are
Speaker 1: that's the end of the article. But if you are,
Speaker 1: if you're on TikTok and you see a major celebrity
Speaker 1: like Taylor Swift, who's like the major celebrity, and you
Speaker 1: see her hawking some weird rewards program or something, that
Speaker 1: should be enough to stop you in your tracks, no
Speaker 1: matter how realistic it might look, because here's what you
Speaker 1: gotta do. When you see something like that, the question
Speaker 1: you have to ask yourself is why would Taylor Swift
Speaker 1: be doing this? This is like this is like a
Speaker 1: TikTok version of a paid infomercial like you used to
Speaker 1: see and maybe still do on cable television late at night.
Speaker 1: Why why would someone the status and caliber of celebrity
Speaker 1: of Taylor Swift lower herself to doing this kind of thing,
Speaker 1: to selling some rewards program. Well, you know, that's what
Speaker 1: you have to ask yourself. That's where you have to
Speaker 1: be really discerning. Does it make sense that a celebrity
Speaker 1: of this magnitude is doing this? Now, Apparently to a
Speaker 1: lot of people, it makes perfect sense, because that's how
Speaker 1: they get away with these scams, because people aren't questioning
Speaker 1: it and they're putting in their information and they're getting
Speaker 1: ripped off. But you got to ask yourself, why would
Speaker 1: this celebrity even be doing this? And if you have
Speaker 1: even the slightest question as to why a celebrity of
Speaker 1: this caliber would be doing such a low rent thing
Speaker 1: like selling memberships to a rewards program on TikTok, if
Speaker 1: that question enters your mind at all, then you must
Speaker 1: know this is a scam. Avoid close that tab, don't
Speaker 1: do anything more with that. So that's just my that's
Speaker 1: my advice, you know, And it looks too good to
Speaker 1: be true. It probably is, and all of that, you know,
Speaker 1: all the sayings and adages and all of it. So anyway,
Speaker 1: that's my little public service announcement regarding that particular subject,
