They just played a few tracks and we opened the show uh with a new song too. But that is the newest right, that is halfway there from Cosmic Blossom, and of course, uh Gary is here, Gary Smith, who is in Uh Gary? How many bands are you now? Can you even put a number on it?

Speaker 22: Yeah, I mean I'm probably in like six or seven projects.

Speaker 13: Oh is that all?

Speaker 9: Yeah?

Speaker 22: Probably more.

Speaker 9: You do a lot.

Speaker 13: You do a lot of stuff, but I always say you're one of the You're one of the most talented and busiest musicians I know in the area. So we also have so we'll we'll go around here. So we have Ryan here on drums and sounding great than your first time on the show. So appreciate having you here. And uh and Meg of course I love the vocal on that last song that that y'all played. That was really cool. And you're in Dog a Dog as well.

Speaker 17: Yeah, we'll be on at eleven.

Speaker 13: Yeah, yeah, so that's that's gonna be awesome.

Speaker 15: Yeah.

Speaker 13: When you walked in, I was like, oh wait, she's on the other band, and uh, let's see and we have Nick welcome.

Speaker 29: What's up guys?

Speaker 13: And uh you Now let me ask you this, So are the four of you like because we in fact I asked before the show, do I introduce you as Cosmic Blossom or Cosmic Blossom collective because it seems like there's like is there a core band and then sort of ancillary people who are the collective? Or how does how? How is this all working?

Speaker 22: Sure?

Speaker 29: So there's there's like I would say, probably like eight of us that are like the core group members. Okay, you know we kind of split that up into like two little subgroups that like write songs like on their own, and then we kind of bring it to the larger group. Oh and then we have other musicians that are in the scene that kind of join on, you know, like horn players and stuff like that. Whenever we have like bigger gigs. Yeah, for the most part, we kind of stick to the core group of like eight of us.

Speaker 13: Yeah, gotcha, gotcha? Wow. So so that that core configuration of eight, So what do you have covered in terms of instruments or is it a lot of singers or how does how does? Like I guess what I'm really asking is who are the other four of the eight?

Speaker 29: Sure? Absolutely, I would say the other four. While we have brad to Palm on guitar, you couldn't be here today, but he's the guy that I started this with lead guitar. We have Jimmy on keys, he's fantastic, Chuck on bass, we love Chuck and Anthony on drums, he's the other drummer that we have, I'd say that. And then we have singers on top of that too. You know Amanda Van Tyne, Sarah Bird, she's also in Dog Eate Dogs. She'll be here a little bit later, okay, And you know, just too many people to name off off the rip out the rest of that.

Speaker 13: Yeah, is it? Is it challenging to manage all that in terms of playing live shows and figuring out who's available for what or or maybe it's maybe it makes it easier in some ways because you can kind of change up the configuration of the songs on the fly depending on who's there. I mean, what is that like what is that dynamic?

Speaker 22: Like, well, that's one of it.

Speaker 30: And definitely with like like there's a where or you guys are playing on March twenty first, I already had a gig. But you know it's simple enough where we have like two drummers, two basses, and we're all cross trained, so we can kind of, yeah, if one of us can make it, we can still kind of make make the gigs work, yeah, which is nice. But again, we tend to play like bigger, bigger shows. We're not doing a lot of smaller stuff, so it's usually make it worth it, I would say.

Speaker 22: With other shows.

Speaker 13: Yeah, yeah, no, that makes sense.

Speaker 29: Yeah, with smaller gigs and stuff, we'll usually stick to like a smaller group of us, you know what I mean. Like if we're just playing like a club downtown like say Lowell or something like that, you know we'll have probably just like the eight of us covered that. If we're playing like a bigger festival over the summer, we'll probably have we'll break out all the stops for that, so we'll have all what fifteen of us on stage orthing like that, Yeah, at one time, and you know, people kind of jump in and out per song.

Speaker 29: It's not everybody's on the stage all at once. Everybody kind of just floats in and out as the songs kind of come okay. And yeah, like Gary said, having two of everything is really helpful. So if one person can't make it, someone can cover the entire base through one show.

Speaker 13: That it's like a Noah's Ark thing. You got two of Uh.

Speaker 29: I didn't look at it like that before. Yeah, no, it makes sense.

Speaker 13: So that's so that's smart to do it that way. That totally makes sense. I like it.

Speaker 17: I like it.

Speaker 13: What is so do you know what, like, what is the maximum number of people you've had on stage at once a Cosmic Blossom set?

Speaker 29: How did we have on for Wormtown?

Speaker 22: Yeah?

Speaker 13: That once?

Speaker 30: That was probably like with the horn players and stuff, that's probably like twelve or thirteen out wow, get yeah.

Speaker 29: Thirteen of us probably on it once.

Speaker 13: Yeah, And what's the minimum them?

Speaker 29: Like, what is the small The smallest we have was four, Yeah, and it's it's cool because we'll start with four, like for our last festival we played at Wormtown, we start with four, and then we add one person, and then we add another person and it's just like grows to like the end of the show, all thirteen of us are on stage all at once.

Speaker 13: So blossoms.

Speaker 15: Yeah, yeah, this guy's good.

Speaker 13: Yeah, it's up to do your marketing. I get all the times. Yeah, I want to be part of this.

Speaker 22: Do you want to join us to do?

Speaker 13: You guys?

Speaker 22: Remember sixteen?

Speaker 15: Yeah?

Speaker 13: You know it's up?

Speaker 17: Yeah.

Speaker 13: Oh that's no, that's cool though. Now now when you so, how does that affect how you approach recording, because you've got, like we featured, uh, that great studio track we opened with and we just played halfway there. How do how does that get figured out? Who's going to?

Speaker 9: Uh?

Speaker 13: I mean, do you try to get all fifteen people on a try or probably not?

Speaker 30: I wouldn't think, but yeah, I mean we we again try and kind of get a scratch track, you know, we use the well recently started using Pete who I've used all for my procreston Maintenance and Fox and Flamingos. So like we kind of just lay the scratch track down with the four or five of us, and then the girls will come add the vocals after the fact and we try and get as many people on it. Obviously sometimes it doesn't always work out, but yeah, I mean, ultimately, you know, everyone, like I said, everyone can play everything, so that's half the battle.

Speaker 30: But yeah, recording wise, we it's pretty efficient. Like last song, we pretty much had it done in two days over the course of a week. We're recording again on March twenty eighth, recording our next song excellent.

Speaker 29: First one we played here take your Time.

Speaker 30: Yeah, take your Time, the one that we played solo the first one, the acoustic one, So that's going to be recorded, Uh, excellent, down to Pete so that yeah, and then we're working on a bunch of other stuff too.

Speaker 13: Is there a studio recording of the last one that you played that you sang on Meg not yet? No, I love that song? Oh, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 17: Yeah, we do.

Speaker 10: Me and Amanda Vantine do that one together usually.

Speaker 11: Kind of like a girl power song and stuff. But yeah, we're hoping on recording that soon too.

Speaker 13: Cool. Cool, Yeah, No, that's that's really good. So there Now is there an album or is there just singles for Cosmic Blossom up to now? I don't so.

Speaker 29: Right now, we just have I think what eight singles, and that was over the course of like, you know, this has progressed in a crazy way that we've had even other members that have you know, like come and gone, and so we over the course of the last you know, two or three years, we've probably put out about eight singles. We're gearing up now to get like a full length album, probably about like fourteen songs, oh on one big album and we hope to get that like pressed onto vinyl and stuff by the end of the summer.

Speaker 29: That's kind of nice. We're in the process of getting everything recorded and polished up now for that.

Speaker 13: Oh, very cool. Yeah, that'll that'll be good. It's cool that you're gonna do vinyl. A lot of people are doing vinyl now, that's awesome. Yeah.

Speaker 29: He just pressed vinyl for his Percussive Maintenance album.

Speaker 13: Oh you did? Yeah, okay, one of those too cool, outstanding. Well, I don't know if y'all know. And Gary, you've obviously been here before, but not I been here in a little while. We have a record player now.

Speaker 29: Yeah, absolutely, spind your vinyl on that.

Speaker 13: Yeah, right, Yeah. One of the guys, this belongs to Ryan Sherman, the cherminator. He does a show here, a music show. But but he brought this in, you know him. Yeah, he brought this in and he said anybody can use it, so we can. We can always plug it in and spend something on there.

Speaker 24: Sick.

Speaker 13: My theory about you know, people who buy vinyl at this point, you know, unless they're they're buying you know, used vinyl, you know, like classic rock stuff. But I think when people buy brand new vinyl, most of the time they probably never even open it, or if they do open it. They never play it because it's just something that's cool to have.

Speaker 22: It's a collective piece.

Speaker 29: Yeah, absolute, Yeah, it's not the only way that we listen to music to anymore, so that's more of a it's more of a novelty to have for sure.

Speaker 13: Yeah, it's cool to have it. You know, you can mount it on the wall, do whatever with it. But but yeah, but we do have the capability to play vinyl and we also have a we actually have a CD player here too. I don't even have a CD player at home anymore, but we do have a CD player here. I think I think Rob has a veto from Grantis of Mind is the only one who actually uses it. But we do have one here, so we have that capability as well. But it's nice to live in a digital age. But no, that's cool that you're in a do vinyl.

Speaker 13: That's awesome.

Speaker 29: Yeah, yeah, very nice to have for the summer. Absolutely.

Speaker 13: How long has Cosmic Blossom existed. It's been a number of years, right, but it sounds like it's changed a lot. It's morphed and grown.

Speaker 29: And absolutely yeah, I would say that me and Brad started this in twenty twenty when everything kind of shut down. We kind of just met up with our buddy Brian Lambers a lot. He's a core member of this took. He helps us a lot with our production and stuff. He's awesome. So we just met up with him and just like us three just started writing the original songs that we had for this. Later on we picked up drums and bass with Axel and Alfredo. Yeah, and then right after that we picked up Amanda Vantayne as like our lead singer, and then like just from there, once that happened, like people start started joining left and right, and okay, it just became what it became after that.

Speaker 13: Yeah.

Speaker 29: Yeah, it kind of grew naturally too. It's not like, you know, we really actually planned for that. We kind of planned on being a band at first, and then just so many people just ended up coming through that we're like, all right, let's see if we can make that like a trend. Yeah, it's been a lot, but it's been working for us. It's been really cool.

Speaker 13: Was there any was there any kind of resistance to that initially within the band, Like do we want to just let people sort of join or did you just did you just go with it instinctively? Like no, this is cool just if people want to become a.

Speaker 29: Part of it, honestly, and I'm so proud of this. Everybody who's joined this has been so like okay with making sure that everybody has their time in the spotlight. You know, we're really good about sharing it and making it as much of a collaboration as possible.

Speaker 13: That's really cool. Yeah, I admire that a lot. That's that's excellent. That's excellent. And then what do you have coming up? Do you have any shows this weekend that you're playing or what's what's kind of next for a cosmos Nicker.

Speaker 30: You're playing a Hennecker Brewery March twenty first, yeah, guy, and then we just when we were playing Warping weft Ye with Fox and excellent Low Yeah, on April tenth, and then Grange Creek.

Speaker 17: Yeah.

Speaker 29: I'd say our biggest show that we're excited for is we're playing the Capital Center for the Arts, the Bank in New Hampshire, Stage up Conquered and we're.

Speaker 13: You're doing that Kevin Haran, Kevin Hornan, Yeah, yeah, he's been on the show. Yeah, Yeah, that's great.

Speaker 30: We're playing in his band. So I brought I brought Cosmic well of course you are. But yeah, that's that should be as that would be a really.

Speaker 13: Is that throughout n H Music Collective?

Speaker 25: No?

Speaker 28: No, no?

Speaker 13: Oh cool, very nice, very nice. Yeah. How many, like how many songs does Cosmic Blossom have at this point? That because obviously, you know, you've got songs that everybody, like everybody who's a part of it knows, right, So does that you have a lot?

Speaker 29: Yeah, Oh my gosh.

Speaker 15: Yeah.

Speaker 29: So we probably have about like ten that we've like retired is what we call it, with ones we don't really play anymore. We have probably like eight right now that are in our like what we call our set, which we'll bring to anywhere, and then we're we've got probably about four more that we're writing, and then maybe even like two or three acoustic songs on top of that.

Speaker 22: So we have we have a lot.

Speaker 29: We've about twenty twenty or twenty five we've that we've got floating around.

Speaker 13: Oh that's great. Yeah, with that many? Is it hard to write a set list if you're in a situation where, like say, you've got an hour of time to fill, obviously you can't play all of those. So yeah, it was a difficult to decide with that much material.

Speaker 29: Honestly, the biggest part of it is like who's there, you know, all that makes there and who knows what song? And then you may kind of create a set list based upon who shows up. Okay, we've spent a lot of time making sure that everybody knows a little bit of everything, but still it kind of we kind of run into that sometimes, so we gear our sets on who's there and who's ready to show up that day.

Speaker 13: No, that makes sense. That makes sense. So now where where should people go online to keep up with everything that Cosmic Blossom is doing and the music that you have out and and I assume this is all on Spotify? Everything that Yeah released so far, including including I know this is pot off the press halfway? There is that on Spotify as well?

Speaker 29: Oh yeah, yeah absolutely, Yeah, that went up a few weeks ago. That's on all major streaming platforms.

Speaker 29: Going to my original band that I formed with Brad the the Core group. There we are in a band called Earthmark, and we're more of like a progressive rock kind of group. And yeah, we've been around for a while, Okay, okay, god, we've been playing around for like twelve years now.
