Eric Clapton incident | Matt Connarton Unleashed
Speaker 1: And then we've got this week's world radio premiere, and
Speaker 1: of course we'll show some love to our amazing sponsors.
Speaker 1: And then coming up an hour number three today we
Speaker 1: have Viva Los Villains Loser Loss, Viva los Villains. Although
Speaker 1: when people say Los Lobos, they always say loos, they
Speaker 1: don't say loss. But when we say Los Angeles, we
Speaker 1: say loss. We don't say los. I guess you can
Speaker 1: say either way. This is something I hate to see
Speaker 1: this again. This is also from Digital Music News. Eric
Speaker 1: Clapton ends Madrid show early after being struck by object
Speaker 1: from the crowd. I don't know why people do this,
Speaker 1: but this and look, Eric Clapton. There's some things about
Speaker 1: the guy that bother me quite frankly, but this should
Speaker 1: not ever happen, it says here. Eric Clapton didn't give
Speaker 1: fans in Madrid his usual encore after he was hit
Speaker 1: in the chest with an object from the crowd and
Speaker 1: left the stage afterward. Eric Clapton usually returns to the
Speaker 1: stage for an encore after playing his classic hit Cocaine,
Speaker 1: but that was not the case at his Madrid concert
Speaker 1: on May seven. Footage posted on social media shows that
Speaker 1: Clapton seemed to be hit in the chest with what
Speaker 1: appeared to be a vinyl record tossed from the crowd.
Speaker 1: As a result, he didn't come back out for an
Speaker 1: encore after finishing the song a vinyl record, So with
Speaker 1: somebody did somebody think if they threw the record at
Speaker 1: Clapton he would autograph it for them. That's the only
Speaker 1: logical thing I can think of why that would happen.
Speaker 1: Why else would that happen. It doesn't make sense. It's bizarre,
Speaker 1: and obviously it's not the right thing to do. And
Speaker 1: obviously whoever threw that record, if that was what their
Speaker 1: intention was, they did not get their autograph. Probably somebody
Speaker 1: drunk or on something. But it says here the moment
Speaker 1: happened just after he performed Cocaine, which is usually the
Speaker 1: point at which Clapton leaves the stage and then returns
Speaker 1: to play an encore, But after the incident he did
Speaker 1: not return to the stage. Reports suggests that the fan
Speaker 1: who threw the vinyl did not intend to cause any harm,
Speaker 1: right that probably my theory, nor did it to cause
Speaker 1: injury to Clapton when the item made contact, and the
Speaker 1: record was even accompanied by a note of affection. However,
Speaker 1: even with the best of intentions, throwing an item on
Speaker 1: stage doesn't always have the desired effect, and that was
Speaker 1: certainly the case here. The former Cream guitarist reportedly became
Speaker 1: angry after the incident and chose not to return to
Speaker 1: the stage the Starry as he had to address the incident.
Speaker 1: But unfortunately, he's far from the first musician to be
Speaker 1: hit by an object thrown from the crowd. Hey, I
Speaker 1: was at a disturbed show once. This would have been
Speaker 1: oh my god. This was probably more than twenty years
Speaker 1: ago where for some reason, it was at an outdoor show.
Speaker 1: It was at a festival, and for some reason, people
Speaker 1: were throwing stuff in the crowd. I have no idea why.
Speaker 1: I mean, people throw things at Dave Draymond now for
Speaker 1: different reasons, but people were throwing stuff in this crowd.
Speaker 1: From this crowd, We're throwing stuff, and Dave Draymon said, look,
Speaker 1: you know, that's not a compliment to us. He keep
Speaker 1: doing that, We're leaving and it did stop, but it
Speaker 1: says here. A surge of concert incidents between twenty twenty
Speaker 1: three and twenty two twenty four saw numerous artists hit
Speaker 1: by objects thrown from the audience, including Kelsey Ballerini and
Speaker 1: Harry Styles. Baby A Rexa required stitches after a fan
Speaker 1: through a self oh I remember this through a cell
Speaker 1: phone directly at her face while she was performing in
Speaker 1: New York, and Ava Max had a fan slap her
Speaker 1: in the face after rushing the stage in Los Angeles.
Speaker 1: Other artists who have had items thrown at them during
Speaker 1: performances in the last few years include Drake Pink and
Speaker 1: Steve Lacy. The eighty one year old Clapton and by
Speaker 1: the way, that is relevant his age. He's eighty one
Speaker 1: years old, so you know, if you throw something like
Speaker 1: a vinyl record, you know which is not It's not
Speaker 1: the same as you know, throwing a glass bottle or something.
Speaker 1: But still, I mean, at eighty one years old, a
Speaker 1: stiff wind might blow this guy over. You can't just
Speaker 1: be doing that. I mean, that's stating the obvious, be
Speaker 1: laboring the point, I suppose. But the eighty one year
Speaker 1: old Clapton is currently on his European tour, which is
Speaker 1: set to resume in barcel on May tenth, before he
Speaker 1: makes his way to Germany for shows in Mannheim. Okay,
Speaker 1: it just goes on about a store. Don't care about
Speaker 1: that part. That's the last paragraph anyway. But you know,
Speaker 1: if you if you throw things at someone while they're
Speaker 1: on stage, just be aware that you are a bad
Speaker 1: person and we all hate you for doing that, and
Speaker 1: please don't do that ever
