4:05 Speaker 3: Valley rather, but it is Volly. So is does that

4:13 Speaker 7: We've had a few where people because our logo is

4:16 Speaker 7: a pill and it says Valley twenty milligrams. So yeah,

4:19 Speaker 7: we've been on a few show flyers where they think

4:21 Speaker 7: our name is Vally twenty milligram.

4:23 Speaker 2: Yeah.

4:23 Speaker 3: Yeah, Oh that's funny. Yeah, that's funny. I can see

4:27 Speaker 3: how that would happen though, So tell us about because

4:30 Speaker 3: we were talking about when you were on the show

4:32 Speaker 3: before you had a show coming up in Japan or

4:35 Speaker 3: a tour or the world tour.

4:37 Speaker 7: Yeah, but you did it.

4:40 Speaker 3: You guys went to Japan. I'm done to hear all

4:43 Speaker 3: about it.

4:43 Speaker 7: So the flight there was treacherous. Yeah. So it was

4:50 Speaker 7: a six hour flight from Boston to San Francisco, then

4:56 Speaker 7: twelve hour flight from San Francisco to Tokyo, and then

5:01 Speaker 7: a three hour flight from Tokyo to Okinawa.

5:04 Speaker 9: M so.

5:06 Speaker 7: And if I remember correctly, we didn't really have any

5:09 Speaker 7: layovers on the way there.

5:10 Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a lot.

5:14 Speaker 7: Yeah, we we actually so when we landed in Tokyo, Uh,

5:20 Speaker 7: they told us to go to the wrong gate. Oh no, yes,

5:22 Speaker 7: we went to the wrong gate, and you know, everything's

5:25 Speaker 7: in Kanji. So we couldn't we couldn't figure it out,

5:29 Speaker 7: and we actually wound up missing our initial flight to Okinawa.

5:33 Speaker 3: Oh no.

5:33 Speaker 7: And Jonah was at the gate for the flight that

5:37 Speaker 7: we were supposed to be on, but the three of

5:40 Speaker 7: us like, we couldn't get through. It was too late

5:43 Speaker 7: to board. So Jonah is calling us and calling us

5:47 Speaker 7: and he was able to wrangle in this guy who

5:52 Speaker 7: we had to use Google Translate. But yeah, he got

5:54 Speaker 7: us all on a flight that was actually sooner and

5:57 Speaker 7: quicker to Okinawa.

5:59 Speaker 3: Oh wow.

6:00 Speaker 7: Yeah, so it worked out perfectly.

6:02 Speaker 4: He was an airline employee and he just went above

6:05 Speaker 4: and beyond to get a situated and straightened out because

6:07 Speaker 4: for you know, a good hour there, we thought we

6:10 Speaker 4: it was folly lost in Tokyo, Wo Vi destination.

6:15 Speaker 6: We may or may not have bribed him with some

6:17 Speaker 6: volley gear. Yeah, I'm not sure if that actually did

6:19 Speaker 6: us any favors or maybe worked against us.

6:21 Speaker 3: Yeah. Oh if it worked out though, that's that's great.

6:25 Speaker 3: Yeah wow, so oh yeah, go ahead.

6:28 Speaker 4: Oh I was just gonna say, yeah, getting there was

6:30 Speaker 4: definitely difficult, but it was it was worth all the ache.

6:33 Speaker 3: Yeah. Wow, that's a lot of time. I've never even

6:36 Speaker 3: been a plane, been on a plane for that amount

6:38 Speaker 3: of time. I can't even imagine. Yeah, yeah, it was

6:43 Speaker 3: so rough.

6:45 Speaker 7: They they obviously supplied us with some beers on the flight,

6:49 Speaker 7: so that yeah, that helped a little bit. But yeah,

6:52 Speaker 7: I like I didn't really sleep the night before. Yeah,

6:55 Speaker 7: and I couldn't sleep on the plane. I have a

6:57 Speaker 7: hard enough time sleeping as it is, So I just

6:59 Speaker 7: I stayed up the entire time, and like by the

7:02 Speaker 7: time we finally stepped foot in Japan, like after all

7:06 Speaker 7: the flights were done and everything, I just like a

7:09 Speaker 7: big cigh of relief came. And then we took a

7:12 Speaker 7: cab to the hotel. The front doors to the hotel

7:15 Speaker 7: were locked, and there was a phone number to call,

7:19 Speaker 7: but our phones weren't working because we were in Japan.

7:23 Speaker 3: Yeah.

7:23 Speaker 7: Yeah, So like we're just sitting there in the parking lot.

7:26 Speaker 7: There's no cars in the parking lot. We're like, this

7:29 Speaker 7: is on far, this is on far, And we wound

7:32 Speaker 7: up knocking on the door and the guy came and

7:34 Speaker 7: let us in. And the second we all made it

7:37 Speaker 7: into the hotel room, that's when we did the big

7:39 Speaker 7: group hug and we were like, guys, we made it.

7:43 Speaker 4: Yeah.

7:44 Speaker 6: My favorite part about when we first got there. I'd

7:47 Speaker 6: been telling the guys because I used to live in Japan,

7:49 Speaker 6: oh when I was in the Marines. Oh no kidding,

7:51 Speaker 6: Oh wow, I knew exactly what to expect from Okinawa

7:54 Speaker 6: as far as like the heat index and humidity goes. Yeah,

7:57 Speaker 6: so I'm telling them like, hey, just so you know

7:59 Speaker 6: second we go, you're just gonna start swimming. Yeah, it's

8:02 Speaker 6: just so human. They're like, oh yeah, sure, you stepped outside,

8:04 Speaker 6: and Dane looks at me, He's like, this is rough,

8:07 Speaker 6: Like already I'm already moist, dude.

8:10 Speaker 10: It was.

8:10 Speaker 7: It was extreme, Like right as we walked out of

8:13 Speaker 7: the airport, it was like a sauna.

8:15 Speaker 3: Really yeah no kidding, like like comparable to like Florida

8:20 Speaker 3: or or.

8:21 Speaker 4: Florida as a kid, and it's not comparable because it's

8:25 Speaker 4: way crazier.

8:26 Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.

8:28 Speaker 7: You feel like you're swimming through the air.

8:30 Speaker 2: Wow.

8:31 Speaker 8: Yeah, no kidding, Like I had to run at six am,

8:34 Speaker 8: not to he had to this morning, run.

8:37 Speaker 6: Bill running every morning he die.

8:40 Speaker 3: Yeah wow wow, that's crazy. So like at any point,

8:44 Speaker 3: did did any of you feel like, you know, as

8:47 Speaker 3: you're as you're just getting there, like wha, maybe this

8:50 Speaker 3: was a mistake or or did or did you all

8:53 Speaker 3: feel like no, this is this is worth it.

8:54 Speaker 6: Whatever happens is probably the best thing that we ever

8:57 Speaker 6: did as a group.

8:58 Speaker 3: Like that's cool.

8:59 Speaker 4: I agree. Good.

9:00 Speaker 7: The only the only little shred of doubt was when

9:04 Speaker 7: we were almost stranded in Tokyo, where it was like

9:07 Speaker 7: there's no way that was pretty maybe Bear maybe for

9:11 Speaker 7: a second Burger Bear, if you're listening. I can't say

9:15 Speaker 7: it on the radio, but we had we had an experience.

9:19 Speaker 3: Well I'm super curious.

9:20 Speaker 7: I mean to make a long story short. So after

9:24 Speaker 7: the hotel tobacco, when we finally got to the hotel,

9:26 Speaker 7: we were like, all right, we we need to go

9:28 Speaker 7: eat something. We went to this restaurant called Burger Bear,

9:32 Speaker 7: and the guys all got what they wanted. I ordered

9:37 Speaker 7: a grill. The only thing they had, uh that I

9:40 Speaker 7: could eat h was a grilled cheese but had bacon

9:44 Speaker 7: on it. So I asked for a grilled cheese, no bacon,

9:46 Speaker 7: and that threw the man for a loop. He did

9:49 Speaker 7: not understand what the heck I was talking about. Yeah,

9:52 Speaker 7: He's like, so you want grilled cheese, no cheese. I'm like, no,

9:57 Speaker 7: like a grilled cheese, no bacon, just the cheese. And

10:01 Speaker 7: he's like, so you want you want grill? I'm like no, man,

10:05 Speaker 7: So he ended up getting nothing.

10:07 Speaker 3: Yeah really yeah wow.

10:09 Speaker 7: I tried explaining it to him to the best of

10:11 Speaker 7: my ability and he just wasn't getting it. So I

10:13 Speaker 7: was like, you know, I'll just I'll have some jamison.

10:16 Speaker 7: Then oh wow, and yeah, so he quick as a whip,

10:19 Speaker 7: he gave me two shots of jamison. And they're all

10:21 Speaker 7: sitting there, uh, eating their food. And he comes back

10:26 Speaker 7: and I'm like, I thought I finally got through to him,

10:29 Speaker 7: like yeah, grilled cheese, no cheese or grilled cheese no

10:33 Speaker 7: yeah you It's like, yeah, just just a grilled cheese,

10:37 Speaker 7: nothing but the cheese. And he like goes back and

10:40 Speaker 7: it's a big open kitchen. So like we were watching,

10:43 Speaker 7: you know, the whole process, watching him back like three

10:45 Speaker 7: times and start looking yeah yeah or whatever. Right right yeah,

10:49 Speaker 7: So like twenty minutes passes, and uh, I think, Jonah,

10:53 Speaker 7: you were still waiting for your food too, right yeah,

10:55 Speaker 7: So Jonah and I were both waiting for our food

10:58 Speaker 7: and I'm watching him and like I've worked in kitchens before. Yeah,

11:01 Speaker 7: everything he was doing, I'm like, guys, he's he's closing

11:04 Speaker 7: the kitchen like he's no. And then he finally comes

11:08 Speaker 7: back up and I'm like, hey, man, like I was

11:10 Speaker 7: just curious, you know where our food is?

11:13 Speaker 2: Oh, and he's like oh.

11:16 Speaker 7: No, and right then and there, I'm like, dude, i

11:19 Speaker 7: I'm good. Like again, I was, oh I was awake

11:23 Speaker 7: for more than twenty four hours at that point. Yeah,

11:25 Speaker 7: just like I'm like, dude, I'm fine. And as we're

11:28 Speaker 7: walking out the door, uh, he runs and gives Jonah

11:31 Speaker 7: his burger.

11:32 Speaker 3: Oh really yeah yeah. But then he's like, I can

11:35 Speaker 3: still make you your girl cheese.

11:36 Speaker 7: I'm like, dude, just.

11:37 Speaker 6: Yeah, don't even bother We're that yeah, like wow.

11:41 Speaker 7: So he gave Jonah his burger, and like while Jonah

11:44 Speaker 7: was paying and whatnot, we went outside and this was

11:47 Speaker 7: like maybe a three minute walk from the hotel.

11:50 Speaker 3: Yeah.

11:50 Speaker 7: Uh it started monsooning. Oh wow, and I burst out laughing,

11:56 Speaker 7: like I just like a little i don't know, mental

12:01 Speaker 7: breakdown laughter. After the chain of events, I'm like, there's

12:04 Speaker 7: no way this is real life, right uh wow?

12:07 Speaker 4: And uh yeah.

12:08 Speaker 7: So like we walked back in. Jonah's all happy with

12:10 Speaker 7: this burger and I'm just like so over it. So

12:14 Speaker 7: I'm like we're taking the cab. We're going to go

12:15 Speaker 7: to seven eleven. I'm going to find something to eat there.

12:18 Speaker 3: Yeah.

12:19 Speaker 7: I ate so many rice balls when we were in

12:22 Speaker 7: Japan really yeah. Uh the first two or three days,

12:26 Speaker 7: I probably ate like twenty or thirty of them.

12:27 Speaker 3: Wow.

12:28 Speaker 7: Yeah, yes, it was bad because like there's seven eleven

12:32 Speaker 7: Lossons and Family Mart okay, and they're like literally everywhere.

12:37 Speaker 3: Yeah.

12:37 Speaker 7: So when we were walking around just like checking out Japan,

12:40 Speaker 7: every single one we'd pass, I'd be like, guys, I

12:43 Speaker 7: need to go in there for a second.

12:44 Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm low on rice ball Yeah yeah.

12:47 Speaker 7: Yeah, so I survived off rice. Like the three of

12:50 Speaker 7: them have never seen me eat so much.

12:51 Speaker 3: Really.

12:52 Speaker 6: Yeah if he was expecting because he's eating for two.

12:56 Speaker 3: Yeah, wow, yeah, I'm curious, Jonah, what is a burger

13:03 Speaker 3: like in Japan?

13:04 Speaker 1: Is it?

13:04 Speaker 7: I mean?

13:05 Speaker 11: Is it?

13:06 Speaker 3: Is it same as here? Yeah?

13:08 Speaker 8: It was actually really good. It was the closest and

13:12 Speaker 8: most open option when we were finally looking for foods.

13:16 Speaker 3: Yeah.

13:17 Speaker 8: It wasn't like we went there looking for burger right right.

13:20 Speaker 3: Yeah that was great. Yeah yeah yeah, oh that's good.

13:24 Speaker 3: That's good. So so after that, so did you play

13:29 Speaker 3: that night? Was the show that night that you played?

13:31 Speaker 10: No?

13:31 Speaker 7: So the show was actually the last night that we

13:34 Speaker 7: were in Japan?

13:35 Speaker 3: Oh how many how many nights were you there?

13:37 Speaker 7: We were there from August third to August tenth?

13:40 Speaker 3: Oh I didn't realize that long.

13:42 Speaker 4: Oh wow, oh my god, that wasn't long enough.

13:44 Speaker 8: Yeah for a vacation long for a band.

13:48 Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, it really was a vacation disguised as a show.

13:52 Speaker 7: Yeah yeah yeah.

13:53 Speaker 3: Oh wow. So what I mean, what else about the experience, like,

13:58 Speaker 3: because it sounds like you had a good time, right,

14:00 Speaker 3: I mean after we have the initial Uh.

14:03 Speaker 7: We had an absolute blast.

14:04 Speaker 3: Yeah.

14:04 Speaker 7: There were there were a few gnom kais, which is a.

14:09 Speaker 4: It's a business drinking party.

14:11 Speaker 6: Yeah okay, so haunted.

14:12 Speaker 7: Yeah, so we uh we had a little balcony and

14:16 Speaker 7: like Cody and I, we wound up getting like a

14:20 Speaker 7: bunch of drinks from seven to eleven, too many drinks,

14:22 Speaker 7: any drinks? The high balls or what did it?

14:27 Speaker 4: Yeah?

14:28 Speaker 7: High ball no j two. But we uh we went

14:31 Speaker 7: out on the balcony and we were just like I mean,

14:34 Speaker 7: you know when drunk went in Japan, we were slicking

14:38 Speaker 7: them back and uh yeah, just watching all the bats

14:41 Speaker 7: fly around and everything are so huge. Really yeah, it

14:44 Speaker 7: was beautiful, beautiful.

14:47 Speaker 3: I don't know. That was scared of me.

14:49 Speaker 7: All yeah for real.

14:51 Speaker 4: Yeah, the size of a bald eagle. Yeah really yeah,

14:55 Speaker 4: that would terrify me flying by, and it scared me

14:58 Speaker 4: for sure.

14:59 Speaker 6: I thought it was gonna me up and take me

15:00 Speaker 6: away at one point.

15:01 Speaker 3: Yeah, oh my god. Wow.

15:04 Speaker 4: Well other than you know, beers burgers and bats, we

15:06 Speaker 4: did other stuff too.

15:07 Speaker 6: We got haunted.

15:08 Speaker 7: Yeah, we got we got followed by an ony demon uh,

15:13 Speaker 7: a possible woman of the night that we also thought

15:17 Speaker 7: might be a demon lady, a yokai ka yeah, yeah.

15:23 Speaker 3: Okay, a demon lady.

15:24 Speaker 4: Yeah.

15:25 Speaker 7: So we were we were in this store by the

15:28 Speaker 7: beach and she came up to me and started speaking

15:31 Speaker 7: Japanese and I was like, I'm sorry, I don't speak Japanese. Yeah,

15:35 Speaker 7: and I tried like breaking out Google Translate, and she

15:38 Speaker 7: like she looked why does it go? Like something about

15:43 Speaker 7: her appearance was so like spooky. Yeah, and she had

15:47 Speaker 7: bandages all over her arms and everything, and she just

15:50 Speaker 7: like kept following me, and like I found them in

15:53 Speaker 7: the store. I'm like, guys, like I need an adult.

15:55 Speaker 3: I need an adult. And so like we leave the.

15:59 Speaker 7: Store and she's following us. Yeah, and there's this big

16:02 Speaker 7: stretch along the beach and like beautiful sea walls, beautiful

16:06 Speaker 7: sea walls.

16:07 Speaker 3: We uh.

16:09 Speaker 7: So we were walking down the strip and like we'd

16:13 Speaker 7: bang a right and go towards the benches and then

16:15 Speaker 7: she'd do the same thing, and I kept looking back

16:18 Speaker 7: just because like I I'm a paranoid guy, I guess

16:21 Speaker 7: with some degree. And I kept looking back and like, god,

16:23 Speaker 7: she's still there, and they're like, stop looking back. I'm

16:25 Speaker 7: like I can't, Like you feel like somebody's watching it. Yeah,

16:29 Speaker 7: see if somebody's watching you?

16:30 Speaker 3: Yeah yeah and yeah.

16:32 Speaker 7: So like for a good ten minutes, like we'd be

16:35 Speaker 7: walking and then we'd stop walking and she'd stop walking

16:38 Speaker 7: and just stare at us. Really yeah, and then she

16:41 Speaker 7: she came up to us and was asking about a

16:46 Speaker 7: phone charger and then asking if we wanted to spend time.

16:52 Speaker 7: We're like no, like we're good, and we kept walking

16:56 Speaker 7: and walking, and like finally, like I remember looking back

16:59 Speaker 7: and seeing her turn around and walk the other way. Okay,

17:02 Speaker 7: I'm like, guys, sigh of relief, Like we're not we're

17:05 Speaker 7: not being followed by the demon anymore.

17:07 Speaker 12: Wow.

17:09 Speaker 7: So we finally get to the beach and we we

17:12 Speaker 7: all walk onto the beach and we're laughing about it.

17:14 Speaker 7: We're like, dude, watch she's gonna show up. And then

17:17 Speaker 7: Cody's like I believe it was. Cody's like, guys, and

17:19 Speaker 7: we all turn around. She comes out from behind a tree.

17:22 Speaker 4: And is just.

17:25 Speaker 6: Honest to God, there's no possible way she could have

17:27 Speaker 6: beat us to the beach because she started walking the

17:29 Speaker 6: other way. Yeah, to have teleported, there's no wow.

17:33 Speaker 4: Yeah.

17:33 Speaker 3: Yeah.

17:34 Speaker 4: And she had like a big straw hat too and almost.

17:37 Speaker 3: Hat like yeah you know.

17:39 Speaker 7: And then uh, Cody and I went off to go

18:48 Speaker 6: you know, part of the drum kit. I mean, yeah,

18:50 Speaker 6: I don't think I've had a better experience as far

18:53 Speaker 6: as like being able to hear everything that was going on.

18:56 Speaker 6: You know, you know someone that's up there right next

18:59 Speaker 6: to a samplifier. You know, sometimes I can't hear, yeah,

19:02 Speaker 6: you know, the whole ensemble doing their thing. But I

19:05 Speaker 6: mean I was like feeling it. You know, there there's

19:08 Speaker 6: a packed show. I mean, everyone was happy to see us.

19:16 Speaker 6: bill outside. It's like that it felt cool.

19:20 Speaker 7: It was surreal, like just you know, we came from

19:23 Speaker 7: halfway around the world. We didn't expect you know, we

19:26 Speaker 7: didn't expect a big turnout. We were kind of just

19:31 Speaker 7: but there there were so many people there and like

19:35 Speaker 7: Cody was saying. The sound was immaculate. Yeah, and just

22:39 Speaker 6: of the island. Yeah, I was stationed. It was up

22:41 Speaker 6: towards like the northern half, So it was I kind

22:44 Speaker 6: of knew like the main area of you know, the

22:47 Speaker 6: city that we were in, but yeah, the more hole

22:49 Speaker 6: in the wall spots and like the back roads. I

22:51 Speaker 6: was like, this is a new experience for me too,

22:53 Speaker 6: So it was it was great that way as well.

23:28 Speaker 6: expect from us, and they can answer some of our questions.

23:35 Speaker 7: Yeah, it definitely had more of a laid back vibeya.

23:39 Speaker 7: Everybody there was so polite and like accommodating and welcoming.

23:58 Speaker 3: Yeahs. And then what what was the trip home like?

24:29 Speaker 7: Yeah, So we had the six hour layover there, then

24:33 Speaker 7: the twelve hour flight from South Korea to San Francisco.

24:46 Speaker 7: in San Francisco at three pm on the tenth so.

24:55 Speaker 7: It was so trippy and like I just remember when

24:58 Speaker 7: we got to San Francis, I was like, I've never

25:07 Speaker 6: to a different airport than we were supposed to in

25:15 Speaker 7: there was so much turbulence on the flight too, and

25:18 Speaker 7: like we were all fried, like it. It was a

25:21 Speaker 7: long week. Oh yeah yeah, is there thirteen hours ahead?

25:26 Speaker 7: Right, yeah yeah, So like we we were already like

25:29 Speaker 7: dealing with the time difference in the jet lag and

25:31 Speaker 7: just a long week of you know, going out and

25:38 Speaker 6: to confidence in flying. Oh really yeah, I got wet anxiety.

25:44 Speaker 6: We got seated in the back of the plane and

25:48 Speaker 6: through my teeth to him, like, oh no, it's the

25:49 Speaker 6: back of the plane. There's wings right there. We're gonna

25:51 Speaker 6: be fine, right right, lies.

25:54 Speaker 6: It was like we were getting shook. Oh really yeah

25:57 Speaker 7: It was pretty bad at some points. And then you

39:44 Speaker 7: is sopping wet. Like, Luckily it didn't damage any of

39:48 Speaker 7: our gear. I think that's get messed up, like Cody's gigbag, but.

39:51 Speaker 6: Yeah, falling falling off together and there. But he took

39:58 Speaker 6: Luckily we had like multiple layers of carpeting, so it's

40:54 Speaker 7: Yeah, so we were dealing with like, you know, some

40:56 Speaker 7: of our stuff going missing and oh wow, because there

40:59 Speaker 7: were like four other bands that practiced in that room.

41:01 Speaker 7: It was a giant room. And finally, like one day

41:06 Speaker 7: before a show, wet we were missing the cable for

41:10 Speaker 7: our pay and we were providing the PA for the show.

41:12 Speaker 7: So we were like that's the last straw, Like we're done,

41:15 Speaker 7: and we moved out that day. The next day there

41:20 Speaker 7: was a massive flood and like we we were grabbing

41:24 Speaker 7: like the last of our odds and ends. And I

41:27 Speaker 7: saw the dudes from one of the other bands like

41:29 Speaker 7: that were cool with like yeah, they weren't the ones

41:31 Speaker 7: taking stuff from us. Yeah, And they're like, did did

41:34 Speaker 7: you guys see the ceiling? And I'm like, oh no,

41:37 Speaker 7: like we we got everything out and I walk in

41:41 Speaker 7: it's literally like a waterfall. Oh my god, exactly where

41:44 Speaker 7: my guitar cab was, his bass cab was, our PA

41:49 Speaker 7: was Yeah.

41:51 Speaker 3: Yeah.

41:51 Speaker 7: So I literally was like we are the luckiest I.

41:55 Speaker 3: Know, in a in a way, you're lucky somebody stole

41:57 Speaker 3: from you because that caused you to leave some time. Yeah. Yeah,
