Game Plan
Erich Pilcher's Classic Film Review: Smokey and the Bandit (1977).
Wmnh rip the normals see sun Old legends never die, They just lose weight.
It's like a legend and an out of wood bum of a lot of
like Daddy bend it. Me and my son are here. Oh I love
your suits. It must be at the size sixty eight, extra fat and
a twelve dwarf. I came to make a deal. What's he get if
he wins this truck road dale thing death? Five thousand dollars daddy chicken money?
That's what the hell You want you to get out of this dumb ass
rodeo and accept a real challenge. Now I'll get into Texas, Cana and
back in twenty eight hours. That's no problem. It ain't never been done
before. Watch the language of the lady. The problem. He said,
poor's beer. You take that east of Texas and that's uh. That's good
legging. I believe you're just a little bit scared. That's great psychology.
Why don't you just say something bad about my mother? You mamma? You
so if you make this run for me? Now, these Peterbilts here are
worth eighty thousand dollars. That comes to about three grand an hour. If
you make it twenty eight hours. I bought that for a challenge. You
want to dad, I don't believe that that's list. Wait a minute,
Wait a minute. Why do you want that beer so bad? Because he's
thirsty? Dummy? See, I got a boy running tomorrow in the Southern
Classic, and when he wins, I want to celebrate in style. Oh
my style. Well I got a few friends and me four hundred cases.
Well, well, let me see your cash bag. Enus's word is gold,
all right, showing my cash. Go ahead. Well let's see there's
four hundred cases of fear. I need to cast for that. No problem,
go ahead, boy, new car. I gotta have a new car
to block for the truck you know? Okay, go ahead? Boy?
Like to kick kids? Mask? Just one speedy car speedier than that?
Go ahead. Stunt Men have long been the unsung heroes of action films.
They do the risky moves in dangerous jumps your favorite actor or actresses might not
be keen to do. Well. There are some exceptions. They often perform
in anonymity. One of those exceptions is legendary stuntman How need Them? And
this week is this famed stuntman's first foray into directing released in nineteen seventy seven,
Smoke He and the Bandit introduces us to bow Bandit Darvel played by Burt
Reynolds. Bandit is hired by well to do Texans big Enus in his son
Little Enus to transport illegally four hundred cases of Coor's beer. This was our
introductory clip from Texarcana, Texas to Atlanta, Georgia with his partner Cleatus Snowman
Snow played by Jerry Reid, who also performed the theme song to this FIP.
Along the way, they encounter runaway bride Carrie played by Sally Field,
who is running away from marrying the son of Sheriff Buford t Justice, who
chases Bandit in company on their journey. It is quite remarkable that this film
became so beloved despite being done by a first time director. In our next
clip, hol Needum explains how we decided to direct this film, and then
Burt Reynolds tells us about the scariest moment he performed. Most of his own
stunts in this film. He encountered while making this movie. First of all,
I directed a lot of second unit, so I knew camera angles and
things, and see the good thing about a stuntman. Being a second unit
director, you know what angles make things look quicker, faster, and so
on and so forth. Up high makes it look slow, down low running
right by his fast, and so on and so forth. So I knew
the angles, I knew the cameras and so on and so forth. I
had a good camera and so really there was nothing to be scared of.
I mean what I told everybody, and when I started got the job,
I said, I'm not gonna throw away my stunt bag where you carry your
pads and things I say in cases don't work, I'll go back doing stunts.
But I had no qualms about going down there. As a matter of
fact, when I did the second unit not a little big Man, I
had a scene where a customer cavalry is going across the canyon floor and they're
playing the Garry Owens song or whatever, you know, the cavalry song,
and Dustin Hoffman is on this rock about ready to commit suicide, and he,
the director, sent dust the itpper. So the first second unit I
ever did, I got one of the highest speed actors in the world up
and tell him about active This is kind of ridiculous. So I wasn't worried
about Smoky. The only thing, and I really wasn't this worried about it.
But the only thing I wanted to make sure of was that I had
all the coverage that I needed because I'm not I wasn't a customer going and
getting a two shot or a close up or the eyes or something. So
I had to think about that a little bit, but I had no qualms
about going to narn Say an action. Next up, Burt Reynolds. I'll
never forget. There was a scene where the girl at Doubles, Sally.
She was the sweetheart of one of the stunt guys, and she was very
capable of you know, you could throw her off a building and to fight
stuff with her, and she was very handy, but hand on the cars
that's a whole other thing. And she got in the car and if you
watch the movie, it's petrifying when you think about it. And then we
go over the wall and we land in a little league baseball game and every
kid's mother was there, of course some of them's fathers. The old grandstands
full of people. She's driving and she just panicked. I've never seen it.
I've never seen this happen before with stunt people, but she didn't happen
with acts. So you're in the car. I'm riding with her so we
could get a camera up close on the on the right side, so we
didn't know it wasn't Sally. Sally was watching and and she just ramped it.
I mean, we were full out flying right, and I saw kids
in front of the car disappear right, and I was waiting for that,
and then went we went right over'em and it were just falling, and
mother's two mothers fainted and I don't blame'em. And then we went through
it all. We got out the other side, and we went through a
h up like a half wall at the head of it, and the girl
was, you know, she was. I didn't need to yell at her
anything. She was. She was beating herself up pretty good when they got
her out of the car. And I got out of the car, and
then I ran back and I spent the afternoon with mothers, you know,
apologizing, and and we all went to dinner, and you know again,
that's that's those Georgia people. They just said, well, it all came
out all right, and the kids said can we do that again? You
know, kids are kids just loved it and we ducked down. The car
went right over soon. I mean, if you think about it, that
would have been the in the Blackerer for sure. I mean, you can't.
You can't do things like that. I mean, and we should have
had some kind of control. But we were just supposed to jump over.
Kids have the game. He would go around the game and go through the
wall. We went right through the middle of the game, and they wasn't
supposed to be that way. What makes band It such a beloved character,
in my estimation, is the fact that Burt Reynolds didn't even have to try
for this performance. He is naturally one of those epitome of cool performers.
There are very few actors that are just naturally cool. Steve McQueen, James
Dean, and of course Marlon Brando come to mind. While the acting ability
can ultimately be argued, what cannot is the qualities Reynolds carries into this film.
He is charming, smooth, and calm in any situation. Our next
two clips are examples of this. First, Bandit has to use his charm
and wit to get Snowman to join him on this job. And then when
bandit It first encounters Carrie in a wedding gown on the side of the road,
his charm goes up another level while remaining cool under pressure. Please,
no, I know in the past I may have done you wrong, right
right, However, greetest, I will never ever do you wrong again?
Right right? We have a big chance, a big chance to make a
run for some big bucks, eighty thousand of them. Oh really, what
are we gonna do? Can have to pot with some how'd you guess?
No, We're just gonna run over to Texas Canna and pick up four hundred
cases, of course, and bring it back in twenty eight hours. Oh,
I got plans for you. That's called bootlegging, and that's against the
law. Who gives the turkey? When the Snowman and the bandit are run
in the booze, no ote can stop it? How old it? Right
there? They ain't gonna be no more snowman a bandit. You just stay
and ain't Why Well, because I've got to go in the morning to Conyers,
I pick up a lover on an or can ask your question, su
ask me what the hell we want to do to Texas Fearm Hall beer back
here? What is that? For the good old American life? For the
money here, for the glory and for the fun. Mostly for the money.
Now, you know we're gonna do we get the money, but we're
gonna buy a new rig. You're crazy, you know that? Yeah?
You know that? Yes? Okay, how much mon? Does you say?
It was? Eighty followed them dollars? Eighty thousand dollars? And now
this bandit meets carried. Where are we going now? Don't tell me?
Let me guess we are a bride in search of a wedding. No,
there is a wedding in search of a bride. Let me put it am
a way. Think of it as a wedding posse in search of a bride.
Do you understand that? Have? Yeah? What are you doing?
These are my shoes? Oh yeah? And these are my legs? Yeah?
What do you want to do with it? For the shoes? For
the legs? Last time I saw legs like that, Dad, a message
started doing. What do you mean? These are great little legs? I'm
a professional all that. Jason. You shouldn't be dressed in white dancer.
Oh oh, cowboys look fat cabs they're not fat. It's bigger than mine.
Do we really want to talk about legs up the stads? Otherwisies?
What are we doing now? Well? I am getting my clothes, you
fool. That's a good idea. Why don't you slip into something comfort?
Are we really going one hundred and ten? Following one hundred and ten?
Why do you wear that cowboy hat? I know because you think it looks
dazzling on? You have no idea what I bought this wedding? What would
an action comedy film be without a villain? This film portrays some members of
law enforcement as the villain, but the chief villain is one Beauford T.
Justice, played by comedy legend Jackie Gleeson. Justice wields his power with an
iron fist, but he is bumbling and comedically incompetent. This is evident in
our final clip when Justice is at a roadside diner. He needs Bandit and
doesn't even realize it. Here the difference between Bandit and Justice. Bandit is
calm and cool, and Justice is exasperated and rushing to catch the prey that
is right in front. I'm gonna tell you, man, dollar and a
half right, keep checking let me have a day. I blow signwich,
doctor back, I make it fast. I'm on the murray you are outside's
you ain't got no time day blow and dog stocking my slack. He must
be in a hell of a hurry, I say, I bet you're gonna
ask on that boy? Oh yeah, tell necessary, I me rum,
Let me help you out here. Get that offer there, that's a way
to an offer. Moneys flying? Who you chasing money? Somebody chasing you?
Nobody chasing me? Boy, i'mpa chase my comenium all away from doctor.
I cannot teach you. Ay see a bank robber the bottom all right?
Bank problem is, baby, Get alongside of what this dude is doing.
H killed upon of last, dropping to people, backyard, knocking down
mail boxer, got broad in the car, took of course the state line,
got the mayor. I don't think you've got a permission and that's good?
Nothing how done behind it? What? Oh? Let me pay for
it? Let me no, no, no, you're an officer though,
I'll be honest, I might apply. Where's the can? I gotta get
the squad all right back there? Just wonderful? What the hey? You
know you're going wrong? Right? Hold on what the you're doing? Ye
just sitting there? I know, I know. Upon release Smoky in the
bandit became an unexpected hit despite a poor premiere in New York. It then
debuted in Southern States over Memorial Day, wend engross nearly three million dollars.
A month later, it had a nationwide release in overall grossed over one hundred
and twenty six million dollars, making it the second highest grossing film of nineteen
seventy seven, after a little space opera you may have heard of called Star
Wars. The film has had two sequels, only one of them featuring Reynolds.
Alfred Hitchcock has called it one of his favorite films. While the language
is a little terse for a PG film and some of the jokes fall outside
of the politically correct spectrum in today's society, this film is landmark in its
use of car chases and performances. It's a simpler film for a simpler time
that has stood the test of time. I hope you join me next week
when we look at Steven Spielberg's powerful and heart wrenching film Schindler's List for W
M N H in Matt Connerton Unleash. This has been a classic film review
with Eric Pilcher. He's founded, are we going to do what they say
can't be done? We got a dollar days ago and ain't short time to
get down. He's kind of man, keep the pot ball on the pedal,
mind him breaking the it all thing out called we got a round to
me. The boys author stick in Atlanta and that's here in Teksak canup.
We'll bring it back. Don't matter what it you are listening to. Wum
and H three you come in. God, don't get supremely died mads.
Welcome back everybody as we enter our number two New Marrow dose of Matt Connorton

Carol's of Warwitz who joins us in there, as well as Isaac Banks and
some other folks who we said hello to in the first hour. And by
the way, thank you again to the Pop Farmers for coming in for the
first hour, and thank you to our friend Eric Pilcher for his classic film
review and returning to the studio. Let me get those we get that mic
up there. And he was referred to in the first hour as a tall
leprechaun. We'll let him explain that. But Jesse Coffee is here. Hello,
Hello, and you've brought your guitar and I think, I think so
we've got we've got more equipment this time so we can get a better,
better recording of everything. So yeah, the Pop Farmers were talking about the
event at Great North and actually it's funny they were saying off air during the
changeover that they wished that you had gotten up and played with them. I
we were, honestly, if you were there last Sunday, we were absolutely
busy. Yeah. Yeah, it's been a lot of it, running around,
both bringing beer, collecting beer glasses and of course being a mischievous being
of a leprechaun, which, yeah, the title of the name. I
think I'm gonna go with what was the title, mischievous Bean. It's like
an alter ego at this point. Neutral Yeah, yeah, yeah, if
I think, I think chaotic. Neutral is a good term. Very good,
very good. And this must be a busy weekend there. Huh,
yeah it was. I haven't seen what it's like, uh, at least
because it's it's coming full circles almost being my first full year there since May.
Yeah, I'll be excited to see how actual Saint Patrick's Day is.
We don't die our beer green, so I think for a lot of people
that might excite you to come get some beer, which is something I'm very
happy with. You don't like drinking green things? No, not really.
I don't like green eggs, and I don't like green ham either. I
don't like well, no, you like some green foods. Yeah, vegetables.
That's where they should be. Vegetables are supposed to be green. How
would you know this is not something that you like to eat? Pizza has
vegetables on it of the food. Yeah, and you make salads all the
time and I enjoy them very much. Those aren't veggies. You don't eat
green beans. I had green beans. I just you know, my thing
with vegetables is I just don't like them cooked. I like them raw.
There's no reason to cook vegetables, in my opinion, there's just no reason
to especially carrots. What's the point of cooking carrots? They're good. I
don't like stew. I like my vegetable incredible raw as nature intended. That's
right, that's right. Well, Uh, Jesse, you want to play
something for us. You got your guitar and I'm going to bring up that
other mike, and I think we're I think we'll get a nice sound with
this. Yeah, everything sounding all right for you to go and go ahead
and keep strumming for a Yeah, okay, Yeah, that's yeah. This
is gonna this is gonna work. Uh, this is gonna work a lot
better than last time. I'll go ahead and pull back the curtain a little
bit. Part of part of why we wanted to get Jesse back in here
so soon as I wanted to get a better recording. Uh so, uh,
because you know last obviously we've only been here in the Canal Street location
for for a relatively short time and still getting used to the new setup and
everything. But but I'm confident today we can get a really good recording.
So if you are just joining us, Jesse Coffee is here with us,
live in studio and uh yeah, whenever you're ready. All right. This
one's a song that so my friends showed me. It's called Runaway to Mars.
It's by Uh I think. I think the whole band is just called
talk. Oh okay, I'm learning a little bit more about it, but
this one's probably a personal favorite. All right, color see okay, you
wait. It's a wild wild world and you're a wild wild girl. My
stun's still shining, but it seems half the size, and it's a wild
wild world for my time, run going a fire, run away a mile?
Would you find me in the silen? Would you miss me in the
end? If I run out of oxygen? When I run away a mine,
I can't tell which ways home. I've been gone for soul, losing
ampty world, I skipped stones and wonder along till I'm discovered. It's a
quiet life here before my time runs sound forty five on away the mins.
Would you find me in the side? Would you miss me in the end?
If I run out of oxygen? When not run away a mine three
to one. I miss you. I'm sorry, I've got his shoes.
What if I'm run away a mine? Would you find me in the side?
Would you miss me in the end if I run out of voxygen?
When not run away in a mile? Very nice, Jesse Coffee is here
with us live in studio on this Saturday morning. That was awesome. Thank
you. Yeah, I don't think you played that one last time. That
was really good. I'm gonna try and not repeat. Oh, okay,
can other than the one request you had for later, but that that one's
a different story. Yes, yes, yeah, very good, very good.
Are you so? Have you been playing a lot? I've been trying
to play. I kind of play out two or three times every week at
like open mics. Yeah, sometimes to try and scale back because it is
harder on the voice, especially getting up in the morning. I can commend
people that wake right up and they can just hang right out of the gate.
I need time to warm up. I even chugged a whole coffee cup
load of hot water. Honey. Oh really yeah, the honey and teething
no whiskey too early, and I have working Yeah, but I've been just
trying to keep up with that. But I did do a gig at the
ShaSS King uh see. It was last Tuesday, which went really well.
It was awesome. I heard for another date April thirtieth. It's another Tuesday,
excellent from eight to eleven. So it gives me a whole month to
add some other songs. And I actually for the setlist that I had,
I didn't end up doing every single song. I ended up skipping around and
doing other stuff that ended up coming up in conversation, which was super fun.
It was a very fun time. Everyone at the Shaskins this wick of
sweet. Yeah, the fact they gave me a shot was great. So
I'm hoping to kind of keep that as like a main spot that I can
just keep being at. I mean, I love going there in general.
They always have great events going on. The open mic is it was the
main draw that brought me in there every week because it's every Monday there from
like nine thirty till midnight ish, and that was kind of what helped me,
Hey, get the go and energy to go back out there, but
also build a setlist again. So yeah, every time I play that open
mic, specifically other open mics will kind of play whatever I feel, but
that one specifically, I make it a point, even if I just learned
the song the day of, I will make that the song will play.
Yeah, just to kind of add more songs to the list, because if
I can have a huge list, then I can kind of pick the ones
that I think are fun, or the ones that just like to sing in
general, or the ones I can tell that the crowd likes too, because
like like one that'll I might play a little later as a blank. Within
eighty two songs, I'm actually and I'm gonna get a lot of flack for
this. I don't like them either, not not my genre, Like I
mean, I shouldn't say not my genre. I like a lot of pop
punk, I like punk in general. Just them I'm just not really into.
But there's one song I found I'm like, I actually like this,
Yeah, so in this off there or newer album, so that that one
might be one I'll play a little later. But I've found that I'm learning
a lot more. Yeah, I do this, so it's been been fun.
I even learned more about my equipment. Where I thought I took a
DeVault battery which I had the backup of it did not takes these weird you
know, little circular disc twenty thirty fives. Yeah, so we ended up
taking apart one of my key fobs to let me play out the last twenty
minutes on my set, and we did it quick enough for Neil was like
notice. It was like per oh, wow, that's good. Then played
an extra five minutes just to make up for lost time. But it was
a fun little learning curve. So now I have like a giant pack living
in my guitar case that should last me at least twenty years. What was
the battery for? So with the acoustic guitars, it won't actually play through
to my amp unless it actually has battery to do that because it has its
own little like trouble and base and all that other. Yeah, yeah,
that was the learning experience? Was that that a little fun? Gotcha?
Gotcha? How many songs do you know? Do you have any idea?
Probably sixty plush at least. I mean, I'm sure there's more buried deep
within that weird head of mine, but i'd have to like be asked like,
hey, do you remember this? I'm like, oh yeah, and
then I'll try and figure it out. Right, right, I know that
there was like a request last radio show, so I don't want to give
it away because if people are just now listening, we can roll with it
later. That I did figure out that one chord that was missing, and
I've never played it or sing it like that, so we could just have
fun. Yeah yeah, all right, well you want to you want to
play another one? Sure, if you're just joining us. We have Jesse
Coffee here with us in the studio playing some tunes live on this Saturday morning
here on Matt Connorton Unleashed. Since since we did at least talk about it
all, we can probably do that. So I'm just gonna scandle the lyrics
real quick, just to make sure. Okay, what the blink? Yeah,
this one's just sad, So that's okay, Okay, that works.
Yeah, yeah, all right, it's one more time, okay, Strangers,
the strangers and some brothers, brothers and strangers. Once again, he
saw the whole world see me, I couldn't need to recognize the friends,
older with nothing standing different right now feels the same. I wonder why I
wish they told us it shouldn't take a sickness. The airplanes falling out the
sky do I have to die to here you miss me? Do I have
to die too? Here? You seeking bye? I don't want to act,
but there's toomorrow. I don't want to wait to do this one more
time, one more time, one more, one more time, one more
time. I miss you. Took time, but I admit it still hurts
even after all these years. And know the next time it ain't always gonna
happen. I gotta say I love you while you're here. Do I have
to die to hear you miss me? Do I have to die to hear
you? Sinkobye? I don't want to act. Let the sue marrow.
I don't want to wait to do this one more time, one more time,
one more one more time, one more time, one more time,
one more, one more time, one more time. I'll miss you.
Oh I like that nice. I don't think i've ever heard that song before.
That once off their newest album, actually, and I was like,
huh. As they got older, I think I grew to appreciate it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah I didn't. I didn't like their early stuff either,
like all the small things and stuff like that. It's like it was
just never quite my jam like I love, like I love punk. I
like a lot of the pop punks and stuff like that, like Green Days.
You know, I've always I really enjoyed Green Day's newest album as like
a later one, you know, like Rancid. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
a lot of that kind of generation stuff. I just grew up loving
that. But the simple plans when he couldn't get into yeah good Charlotte loved
so Like, there's definitely ones in the mix that I enjoyed as it kind
of went on. Kyle Clayton is in the Facebook lave chat says, a
great way to start sad Boy Saturdays. We celebrate every week at the back
room, So you know the reference apparently I don't. I don't know the
reference sad Boy Saturday. It's just it's kind of like a meme. Okay,
it's just one of those things like just you know, the emo on
your on your weekend. Gotcha, gotcha. I appreciate it. Kyle Clayton,
of course from the Morning Show with Peter White, so very nice.
Did you did you want to play that the the original that you have there
Cowdy Days? I really like that a lot honestly means a lot. Yeah,
it's we'll have more on the way. I just haven't had time to
really sit down and focus on, like getting it all ironed out. I
have one that's to being ready, but I don't know if that one's radio
friendly. Okay, little little, little too many? You know. Oh
I thought you said he couldn't do any original, No, I can.
I can do one. That's the one that I like. That one though,
I want to hear that. Yeah, yeah, so quick swig of
water here, yes, yes, we have Jesse coffee here with us in
studio on this Saturday morning, this sad boy Saturday. I try to I
try to stay up on the memes, but I that one got by me.
Honestly, I think this kind of blends right into it. It's another
another s I mean, if if you're gonna play a song called cloudy Days
and expected to be happy there, you think it's a little weird, fair
enough? Oh yeah, one of my own was that to mean to you,
my dear, I hear you right now, loud and clear. My
anger still like goest and sign. It took me too long to realize I'm
trying my best, please to believe, to keep a good path free from
me porage. It's still like cost and sign best believe I'm trying to get.
Bye, give me a sign high that this is enough. Nor.
I can't keep this up. I won't give this up. No. Oh
m hmm. I'm starting to see myself for real. I've been for the
blind so long. I can't feel people around me screaming sigh because my actions
I ever sighed. Give me a sign that this is enough. No,
oh, I won't give it up. I can't keep this up. No,
no, give me a side that this is enough. No, I
can't keep this up. I won't give it up. No. Oh m
love it. Cloudy days, Jess, I love that. For sad Boys
Saturdays. Yes, for sad Boys Saturdays. Here very nice, very nice.
This is Matt connorton unleash. If you're just joining us, we have
Jesse coffee with us live in studio and uh now what is your next When
is your next show? So currently right now the nearest one is out is
actually a little bit away. It's April thirtieth at the Shasking. It's a
Tuesday eight to eleven. Tuesdays are great for me because it is my day
off. So if you want to come out for a little bit, that'd
be cool. I know it's gonna be hard for people with the normal work
week, but that's the next gig as of right now, hopefully more along
the way. I'm trying trying to get myself out there. There's a couple
of spots that are peauking interest, so I'm hoping to hear back from them
soon and yeah, you know, can reach out on that at some point.
The kind of update now, is your long term trajectory to keep doing
this solo or do you have any interest in starting a band or so?
Bands are tricky? I mean there there's there's so much talent out there there,
there really is, Like every open mic I play out there's so many
like brilliant musicians and artists that kind of come out of the woodworks. And
as much as I would love to do a band, it's hard to Yeah
it's scheduling, oh it really is. And I definitely would have an interest
in doing that, but I think like long term and ease of long term
probably just keep it for me, Like, you know, eventually I want
to work my way up to having like an actual PA system and learn the
mixes and doing the fun stuff there that those are all things slow work in
progress right now, I'm working on a sticker that my friend Kyle Wiley actually
made me a little play on my name. Of course, if you have
a last name of coffee, you have to do that. So that's the
next biggest thing is to have stickers. I feel like you need one,
right And I've also been bugged to like why don't you have one yet?
So I have one that's ready. I just had to buy it. Yeah,
all right, well fair enough, you want to play another I want
to play another song for us? Well you know what we can, and
let me look this up real quick. I found figured out this one chord.
It was from a Rick Astley request. I've never actually played this other
than jokingly car singing because well, you know, you know how the song
goes. But I thought that would be kind of fun to do. Yeah,
and also because I keep my word. It's only fair if I kind
of keep my word and make it up to the person. So I hope
that person that did ask is actually listening, either live or on the podcast.
I'm sure they'll hear it one way or now hopefully hopefully so if I
guess we got to keep with the meme with sad boys Saturdays to rickroll the
people all at the same time. Well, that's a meme that endures.
It never, it never goes away. I'm actually Saturday. You sa to
have a QR code shirt, which my biggest fear was that somebody online would
change it. I wouldn't have control over it. But it ended up getting
too many bleach stains. But the best thing about it was it would ricole
people. Yeah, it only worked really well if you had like YouTube Premium,
because if you don't get at you have the ad at least seeing the
words enough to be like you got me. It was great if you were
at either protests or concerts because people thought you were giving away information and if
people ask like, well, what's on your shirt and I was like,
well, you gotta scan it to find out and they're like, oh,
I'm not going to do that, and then you're like okay, yeah,
suspense will kill them. Yeah. Y percent of the time they were like
I need to know what's on your shirt, and so they'll scan it.
It just led to disappointment for them, but last for me, so it
was always worth it. Yeah, I really need to reget that shirt.
It's just one of my favorite things I ever had. It's a great it's
a great, great idea. Did it to me? And it did?
He did. I thought it was like menu or something and scanning it and
like he got me. Yeah, I'll give this a go, all right,
where no strangers to the are. You know the rules, and so
do I. He full commitments what I'm thinking of. You wouldn't get this
from any other guy. I just want to tell you how I'm feeling.
Gotta make you understand. They're gonna give you all. They're gonna let you
down, never go wrong around and just search you, never gonna make you
cry, never gonna say goodbye, and never gonna tell a lie to hurt
you. We've known each other or so on a home your hearts and aching
bod you just shot to say it inside we bothly doing going on because then
then you ask me better gonna pay And if you ask me out a feeling,
tell me that you're like to see they were gonna give you the We're
gonna let you down, never gonna wrong round and surt you. I'm gonna
make you cry, there gonna sing goodbye, and I'm gonna tell a lie
gonna hurt you. They we're gonna give you up, and we're gonna let
you down, never gonna roll round and just sert you. You're gonna make
you cry. Then we're gonna sing goodbye and I'm gonna tell a lie hurt
you, give you, give you up. We've known each other, bustle
along. You're often nicking, but you're just shy to see inside with Bud
Watson is going on. We know the game and where gonna play. And
if you ask me, im a feeling, tell whom. Thank you glad
to see they've We're gonna keep you up. They're we're gonna let you down.
They're gonna roll around and to search you. They're gonna make you cry.
I'm gonna say goodbye and I'm gonna tell a lie hurt you. Excellent,
excellent. Uh weld on this that made me laugh out loud. Melody
of the chat rooms set. So no offense, Jenny, but your kid
is setting some unrealistic relationship expectations. That's pretty good. Stick around Jesse Coffee
is with us live in studio. Jay Fed says he's the one who uh
he says, Hey, I asked you to play this and I made it
up for you. I hope that's okay. There you go, There you
go. And by the way, Kyle Clayton clarified something. He said,
maybe I made it up as a coping referring to the Sad Boy Saturdays.
Maybe I made it up as a coping mechanism for my parents' divorce or something.
But I dig what's happening. And it was absolutely a compliment. Very
nice, Kyle, Yeah, I mean, you know, I think we
assumed as much. You know that it was a compliment, but very nice,
very nice. Yeah, you broke him. Isaac Banks, we haven't
read a comment from our friend Isaac Banks. Greensboro checking in said in the
chat room the Pop Farmers, I'm Isaac Banks, a k A Iikman Breezy,
and I sing dance and I do karaoke and I did videos of cover
songs and you'll see it on YouTube of Ikman Breezy videos. So very nice.
Alright, Well, I think we're all big fans of Ikeman Breezy.
Yes, what uh? What goes into learning uh? Cover? Like,
how do you how do you choose what song? Do you just choose songs
that you like or is there any kind of a method to it? Do
you choose Do you try to choose songs you think people want to hear,
because sometimes people pick up scure songs, sometimes people pick up a bit of
both. Like it it kind of it definitely. Sometimes it's just the lyrics,
Like there are songs that I really like, some that are honestly very
challenging vocally, which is also another reason I like to pick those songs.
Yeah, it's a challenge and it kind of forces me out of that box.
Yeah, so to speak. So I think a lot of it,
just a lot of I know is definitely almost all stuff I grew up with,
including never going to give You Up, I Run because age of the
internet, like it was everywhere, But just all all the stuff that I
know, other than the newer modern stuff, like a lot of that stuff
like the song by Talk, And there's a couple other songs that I've learned
from other like more I guess like indie type artists. I would say,
I'm not sure if he's considered indie or not, but like relatively new Sometimes
just my friends like hey you should learn this, you would sound good doing
this, or like and sort of shying away from it. Now I'm like,
okay, why not, And then I try and learn it, and
I think it's it's become a lot more fun. It's why I even like
I've been diving into the country world, even though I'm not like a big
country fan. I've been finding songs that kind of work in my range and
with what I like to do. And I don't mind catering a little bit
to the crowd because that's also part of it. It's it's the showmanship,
it's the it's the fun doing it. I'm sure my my mom actually would
recall here where there was a Chris Isaac request for a Wicked game and from
one of the bouncers that works to shasking and you know, he jokes saying
I should look lovingly in his eyes, oh singing it. So I took
that to the very extreme degree and I didn't look away. I sang it
and looked around the very intensely. Yeah, it was a very special moment
and it will always be in my heart. It was. It was just
very fun. So it's just it's doing stuff like that and just having fun
with the crowd and seeing everybody just laugh and have a good time as ninety
percent of why I do it, Like even if it's not even if I
screwed up or make a mistake or anything, as long as somebody's getting a
kick out of it and a good time, like I'm having a good time.
Yeah, that's that's really where it all comes down to. Even no
matter what cover I pick, it's just it's one excellent. Miriam Bannis shines
in the chatroum, Hello, Miriam. Kyle Clayton says so diverse. Yeah,
he appreciates your song list. Oh and j Fed says you did great
on the Rick Astley song. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, no, it
sounded sounded really good. I think we I think we have time for one
more. You want to do? You want to do one more? Sure,
we'll get a little screaming. You know what the get with the sad
boys Saturday. I gotta keep it in theme. Okay, I'll do well.
You know you're right. That's a little different, okay, okay,
mm hmm. I will never bother you. I will never promise you.
I will never follow you. I will never bother you, never speaking word
again. I will crawl away for good. I will move away from here.
You won't be afraid of bear. If I was put into this,
always it would come to this. Things have never been so swell. I
have never failed to fail. You know your ride, you know your ride,
you know your ride. I'm so warm and common side. I no
longer have to hide. There's talk about someone else sterling silver against the melt.
Nothing really bothers her. She just wants to love herself. I won't
move away from here. You won't be afraid of fear. No thought was
put into this. Always knew it come to this. Thinks had never been
so well. I have never felt too fail. Then then then then then
you know your ride, you know your ride, you know your ride,
you know your ride, you know your ride, you know your ride,
you know you all right, you know YOURRRIE, you know your ride,
you know your horrid, you know you all right, you know your ride,
you know your all right, you know YOURRRID, you know your all
right, you know YOURRRID all right. Very nice, Jesse, coffee with
us live in studio this morning. Sounded great and you got better, absolutely
absolutely sounding great. Remind us one more time, when's your next show?
The next show that I have currently right now in the books is going to
be April thirtieth. It's on a Tuesday. It's at shas Keene, the
Irish Pub, one of the best spots ever. It's from eight to eleven,
very good at night. Yes, yes, that night, right,
yeah right, because it's not you know, Saint Patrick say weekend. It
might be in the morning. But and I do kind of have to drop
one last thing too. I host the game night and next month extra special
because we have a Tied Eye event happening at the exact same time from four
thirty to seven thirty, which you can pre order your Tied Eye shirts on
the website of Great North Airwarks dot com. Oh and it's going to be
on a Thursday evening which is going to coincide with my Mario Kart game night.
So if you're if you don't care about any of what I just played,
but you love being nerdy, come down and play at the brewery,
which would be amazing and make a tide Ie shirt. Just kind of had
to throw that out there. New England. Tied Eye does it. And
that person that runs that, her name's Jennifer. She does a fantastic job,
does the whole thing. Or you can give you instructions all that stuff
and can help you figureure out what you're doing if you want the spiral or
that's awesome, it's a blast, very good, very good. And then
of course people can find you on Instagram at coffee, Underscore Acoustics c O
F F E Y. I was gonna say, ye, you should score
acoustics. You should definitely smell that for people. Yes, yes, or
and you can also feel free to just add me as is on Facebook.
I don't have a separate page. I don't know if I'll make one.
My page isn't popular as it is, so we'll just keep the one.
I guess throw it. It's not I don't. I just remade it.
I haven't had Facebook in years. It's a it's a new thing for you.
Then I know Mark Zuckerberg missed me. I bet he sent you a
personal card. Le Kyle is a just a quick question, he says.
May I ask which Mario Kart. It is going to be on the Nintendo
Switch, so it will be the newer one. I am currently looking at
devices to get some of the classic ones back, but since we play it
on a projector, if he understands the lingo of latency lag, the switch
is best right now until we can get that little device. All right,
very good, Jesse, thank you again, No, thank you for having
me. It's and coming up in the third hour, we have Nancy Manette.
I'm not sure I'm saying her last name correctly. Is it? I
believe you are an e T It's is it Manette? I believe? So
Okay, I'm going to actually play one of her songs as we transition into
the third hour now, and we'll play some more studio tracks later. But
I'm looking forward to talking to her. She's got a very interesting story and
she's going to be skiping in from Texas. But this is called to Love
You and Me. Nancy Manette will play. This, will show some love
to our amazing sponsors, and then we're going to talk to her. Vius
Skype, don't go away. Plenty more to come to share the best.
I have to go and hope to someday live what are there seemed to have?
I can't I sleep and lover her wake, so my heart will cease
to wake. I will not say goodbye. I just want want to die.
