Speaker 2: Slash Live Today is Saturday, April eighteen, twenty twenty six,
Speaker 2: and I am not alone.
Speaker 3: Jenny Bet.
Speaker 4: Good morning, sunshine.
Speaker 2: Jenny is here at the news table.
Speaker 4: I am President of Accounted More and.
Speaker 2: We got a big show for you today. Coming up
Speaker 2: in just a few minutes. We're gonna be talking with
Speaker 2: Melanie Flynn from the band Autumn of Ashes, who are
Speaker 2: from Australia, Perth Australia to be specific, or as as
Speaker 2: someone we know pronounces it Perth.
Speaker 5: But oh yeah, yeah, I was very surprised to see
Speaker 5: the email asking for.
Speaker 4: Happy very happy wonder.
Speaker 2: Yeah. I like Ashes of that Ashes of Autumn a lot.
Speaker 2: So we're gonna be talking with Melanie from and then
Speaker 2: coming up in the second hour Stephen de Cure will
Speaker 2: be here with us live in studio. We're really looking
Speaker 2: forward to that. He's been here before. He's amazing. And
Speaker 2: in the third hour, Charles Richardson will be here. Of course,
Speaker 2: from the Charles Richardson Show, as has become somewhat of
Speaker 2: an informal tradition. He he does join us sometimes when
Speaker 2: there's a big WWE pay per view event. Of course
Speaker 2: it is WrestleMania. I said pay per view. I'm living
Speaker 2: in the past p l E premium live event and
Speaker 2: we don't use the term pay per view anymore. That
Speaker 2: is now an archaic term. But Charles will join us
Speaker 2: in the third hour today because it is WrestleMania weekend.
Speaker 2: Today is Night one of WrestleMania forty two. Tomorrow night
Speaker 2: will be Night two. So for you wrestling fans, just
Speaker 2: something too that I want you to know about. So
Speaker 2: not only is Charles joining us, and by the way,
Speaker 2: I didn't invite Eric Pilcher as well, but I kind
Speaker 2: of sprung it on him at the last minute, so
Speaker 2: we'll see. And Jenny will not be joining us because
Speaker 2: Jenny and I, Jenny and I have not yet watched SmackDown.
Speaker 4: I do not like spoilers.
Speaker 2: Jenny doesn't want any spoilers about what happened last night
Speaker 2: on SmackDown, the final SmackDown before WrestleMania, because I am
Speaker 2: on the air of Friday nights for Retrospectrum Radio with
Speaker 2: Polly c so we usually watch SmackDown on Saturday, so
Speaker 2: we're gonna be a bit behind on things, but I
Speaker 2: don't mind spoilers. So Charles and I will, we'll talk
Speaker 2: about Charles and I will, we'll talk about whatever happened
Speaker 2: last night on SmackDown, and of course, but mostly we'll
Speaker 2: be focused on predictions and so forth for WrestleMania story.
Speaker 2: Then tonight, and this is very important because I'm not
Speaker 2: sure the exact time. I can't give you an exact time,
Speaker 2: but at the end of WrestleMania tonight and tomorrow night,
Speaker 2: immediately after that, there will be a special live stream
Speaker 2: of Tough Bumps, which is of course the podcast that
Speaker 2: I do with Eric Pilcher and Austin Hicks. We'll be
Speaker 2: streaming live tonight right after WrestleMania Night one and tomorrow night,
Speaker 2: so if you follow me on social media, you know
Speaker 2: how to get to the show. But it is Tough
Speaker 2: Bumps you can find it stream. Come join us tonight,
Speaker 2: and again, you know, we'll probably be behind. I already
Speaker 2: told the guys, I said, Jenny and I will be behind.
Speaker 2: So you'll have to message me when WrestleMania is over
Speaker 2: because we'll still be in the middle of it. Probably.
Speaker 2: I don't mind. Again, I don't mind spoilers, so I'll
Speaker 2: find out from them how the evening concluded. But we'll
Speaker 2: talk about, you know, everything that happened.
Speaker 4: We might be done.
Speaker 2: Maybe maybe we'll see don It doesn't.
Speaker 4: Usually take up that long to catch up because we
Speaker 4: can go through the current.
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true, So we'll see. We'll see how at all.
Speaker 2: But so look for Tough Bumps tonight immediately after WrestleMania
Speaker 2: and tomorrow night as well. We will be I mean
Speaker 2: live myself, Eric Pilcher, and Austin Hicks. Austin Hicks, by
Speaker 2: the way, who is the sole proprietor of Tough Bumps.
Speaker 2: Very exciting. Okay, Jenny, do you want to talk about
Speaker 2: last Saturday quickly too and update us on the Mosaic
Speaker 2: Art Collective.
Speaker 5: It was awesome last Saturday. We had the opening show,
Speaker 5: of course, and there was very good showing, amazing artists
Speaker 5: just amazing. There was one particular piece that was charcoal
Speaker 5: that I swear looked like a photograph.
Speaker 4: It was just amazing.
Speaker 5: But there's so much going on at the Masasaic Art
Speaker 5: Collective and there's so much more coming. I can't wait
Speaker 5: to tell you guys, we got lots of good stuff
Speaker 5: coming down on the pike. But be aware that on
Speaker 5: April twenty third we have movie nights. Come watch a
Speaker 5: movie in the gallery starting at five forty five. The
Speaker 5: gallery is located at sixty six Hanover Street, Sweet two one,
Speaker 5: right here in the Queens City of Manchester. There are
Speaker 5: currently two open calls going on and you can find
Speaker 5: those on mosaic Arcollective dot com. The next coming up
Speaker 5: one is going to be shaping Ourselves. Check out the
Speaker 5: write up on that. You know, how do you define self?
Speaker 4: How do you.
Speaker 5: Intert you know, define what in society affects you or
Speaker 5: who you are?
Speaker 4: Read the write up.
Speaker 5: It's way more in depth than one I'm gonna give
Speaker 5: you right now, and absolutely.
Speaker 4: Submit your work.
Speaker 5: It's not expensive to submit a piece, but don't let
Speaker 5: money be a barrier.
Speaker 4: We have a.
Speaker 5: Support program so artists can submit their work. We love
Speaker 5: to have artwork from all types of mediums, so don't
Speaker 5: think of a medium that is being a limitation. We
Speaker 5: love to see what you can create, so please do
Speaker 5: go to mosaic Ourcollective dot com.
Speaker 4: Check out the open calls.
Speaker 5: There's another one going on about tattoo art and of
Speaker 5: course stay tuned. Every month we have community studio where

Speaker 5: and stay tuned. Is bigger and brighter, amazing things coming you.
Speaker 5: Just you gotta stay tuned.
Speaker 2: It's gonna be great, all right, very good, very good. Well,
Speaker 2: right now we're gonna hit this track. This is the single,
Speaker 2: the newest single, I believe from the band Ashes of Autumn.
Speaker 2: It's called undone, really good. And then when we come
Speaker 2: back on the other side of this, we'll have Melanie
Speaker 2: Flynn from the band Ashes of Autumn. She's gonna be
Speaker 2: joining us via WhatsApp all the way from Perth Australia
Speaker 2: can't wait to talk to her. But check this out.
Speaker 2: The band is Ashes of Autumn and this is Undone.
Speaker 6: The far way in before and a kind of feel
Speaker 6: love of sinking into you. I seemed to have your
Speaker 6: way and now shut that door that was neating my
Speaker 6: way to you.
Speaker 7: High now hard to break through.
Speaker 3: I'm standing on the side trying to.
Speaker 8: Get to you, hands killing me.
Speaker 9: I'm trying not to show it and hand down again,
Speaker 9: controlling or reading, a flowing down, canting, a delaying, some
Speaker 9: folding sail broking a.
Speaker 8: Fool in my believe in you love me?
Speaker 7: I've been coming go.
Speaker 8: So now here we stay? Tell me why?
Speaker 10: I feel like I've never really hurt you?
Speaker 7: Don't understand here?
Speaker 8: I am oh now to reach you?
Speaker 7: You never have you now come to wait through.
Speaker 11: Don't standing on the outside trying to get to you.
Speaker 8: Heads killing me.
Speaker 9: I'm trying not to show I hay there again, controlled
Speaker 9: bream s went down, checking the layer, so folding, feeling
Speaker 9: broad in a pool and myself leaving you love me?
Speaker 12: Why pre com.
Speaker 13: Ing?
Speaker 14: Wha hung and now how to break through? I'm staring
Speaker 14: on me soun funa got to I trying not to ship.
Speaker 14: I had no control of a renow coming commay.
Speaker 13: So the.
Speaker 12: My now how you chose.
Speaker 4: To want.
Speaker 8: Becominger?
Speaker 2: Oh that's good. I like that a lot. The track
Speaker 2: is undone, the band is Ashes of Autumn, and I
Speaker 2: believe we have Melanie Flynn from Ashes of Attom with
Speaker 2: us via WhatsApp all the way from Perth, Australia. Melanie,
Speaker 2: are you there, Matt?
Speaker 4: How are you good?
Speaker 2: How are you welcome to the program? Good to speak
Speaker 2: with you.
Speaker 10: Thank you so much, Thank you so much having me on.
Speaker 2: Absolutely absolutely so Uh tell us about the uh, well,
Speaker 2: I'm curious to know about that song, but also the
Speaker 2: album that it's from the Darker side of Now. I
Speaker 2: feel like, you know, I listened to it. I feel
Speaker 2: like these are you know, some pretty deeply personal songs,
Speaker 2: it would seem, and especially that song, I mean, that's
Speaker 2: that really uh that really speaks to me. But uh,
Speaker 2: but I want to know about that song and if
Speaker 2: it is in fact deeply personal to you, and and
Speaker 2: tell us more about the album as well.
Speaker 10: Well. Firstly, Matt like, thank you so much.
Speaker 15: I mean, it's it's such a joy when somebody can
Speaker 15: hear the music and get something from it.
Speaker 12: You know.
Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 15: When this album is personal to me, it's very little
Speaker 15: written for a place of personal experience and stories and
Speaker 15: things that have gone through. So I'm just surely happy
Speaker 15: that it translates that you can relate to it.
Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt, no doubt.
Speaker 10: Yeah, what is uh?
Speaker 2: Tell me about the album title, the Darker Side of Now?
Speaker 2: Where does that come from? What does that mean?
Speaker 10: Okay?
Speaker 15: So it's Steph and I stephanus a partner. We were
Speaker 15: talking about appropriate title for me because all songs are
Speaker 15: a very sort of serious dark part of me and
Speaker 15: they still exist now, but they're the darker side of now.
Speaker 10: If that makes sense?
Speaker 2: It does it does?
Speaker 16: Yeah?
Speaker 2: Yeah, it kind of speaks to the complexity of you know,
Speaker 2: the human experience and and and uh, you know, there's
Speaker 2: there's uh now. I mean, I guess how I would
Speaker 2: interpret it is, you know now is who you are
Speaker 2: right now. But no matter who you are, no matter
Speaker 2: what your mood, no matter what you're experiencing, you have
Speaker 2: different sides of you.
Speaker 15: And of course, and the thing is too like if
Speaker 15: you go through a lot of things, whether it's trauma
Speaker 15: related or just any sort of experience that you know,
Speaker 15: you still hold with you, those things will always live
Speaker 15: with you, right.
Speaker 10: Exactly, but they don't define you exactly part of you.
Speaker 10: So that's why it's the darker side of who I
Speaker 10: am right now.
Speaker 2: That's something that comes up a lot on the show.
Speaker 2: We talk about this quite a bit with many of
Speaker 2: our guests. How music is. I think it's the best therapy,
Speaker 2: or well, let me broaden that out a little bit,
Speaker 2: being creative in any way, whether it's music, whether it's
Speaker 2: visual art, whether it's writing, whatever it is. When you
Speaker 2: take trauma, when you take any negative experience that's happened
Speaker 2: to you, and then you use that to create something,
Speaker 2: And obviously musicians do that with music, you know, creating
Speaker 2: things that that not only help you work through and
Speaker 2: process whatever that trauma is or that negative experience. Not
Speaker 2: only does it help you, but it helps other people too,
Speaker 2: who can then take that art and enjoy it and
Speaker 2: maybe they get something from it, maybe it helps them
Speaker 2: process whatever they've been through or whatever they're going through presently.
Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, absolutely, that's.
Speaker 15: That's definitely the intention, do you know, I think we
Speaker 15: write music for ourselves initially, you know, to get whatever
Speaker 15: we need out and to express whatever we need. But
Speaker 15: when you, I think, create an album that is full
Speaker 15: of such in depth things, you really hope that someone
Speaker 15: can hear these songs.
Speaker 10: And feel a bit of hope through your stories.
Speaker 16: Right.
Speaker 2: Right, does that happen where because the album I know
Speaker 2: has been out for a little while, right, does it
Speaker 2: happen where you hear from people who will contact you
Speaker 2: and say, you know, this song or the album in
Speaker 2: its entirety really helped me help me get through something.
Speaker 10: Well, just to be fair, So the album isn't out yet.
Speaker 2: Oh, the album's not out yet. Okay.
Speaker 10: So we were planning on releasing it late last year.
Speaker 15: Oh, we held onto it. It's so close to our hearts, right,
Speaker 15: so we just held onto it. We wanted to release
Speaker 15: some singles, see how they landed. Yeah, but it's definitely
Speaker 15: going to be out later this year.
Speaker 2: Oh okay, okay, very good?
Speaker 17: Is that?
Speaker 2: Is that difficult something that I've you know, I'm a
Speaker 2: musician and I've been in some bands, but somehow I
Speaker 2: never found myself in this particular position where where you
Speaker 2: have something you know, in this case, your album, that
Speaker 2: I'm sure, I'm sure there's a big part of you
Speaker 2: that you know because you had originally planned have it
Speaker 2: out last year at the end of last year. I'm
Speaker 2: sure there's a big part of you that really wants
Speaker 2: to get this out, you know, and then there's other
Speaker 2: there's other things that go into you know, because you
Speaker 2: have to be strategic about everything if you want to succeed, right,
Speaker 2: So maybe you I assume that's part of why you've
Speaker 2: held it back, But I mean, is that frustrating though,
Speaker 2: because you want to get this out right, you want
Speaker 2: people to hear it.
Speaker 10: Yes, that it was such a journey creating this album,
Speaker 10: you know, it was.
Speaker 15: It took two years to get to a place where
Speaker 15: we finally felt that this is ready to be to
Speaker 15: be heard. You know, life, life brings you some amazing
Speaker 15: things and sometimes you just have to pause on those
Speaker 15: things and work out what the best way forward is,
Speaker 15: right right, So that's why we've we've chosen to was.
Speaker 10: For a second.
Speaker 15: We've had some great support from you know, other people.
Speaker 15: I'll give a big shout out to our friend Steve
Speaker 15: Rivera in New York and he's just been.
Speaker 10: A pivotal support of us.
Speaker 15: And so later this year we will release this album
Speaker 15: and it's gonna be a lovely surprise and I can't
Speaker 15: wait to announce it in its full entirety.
Speaker 2: Oh, outstanding, outstanding. We'll have to have you back on
Speaker 2: the show at that at that point too, to do that,
Speaker 2: I'd love to. Oh, you got it, absolutely, Yeah. I'm
Speaker 2: curious to also about people.
Speaker 17: You.
Speaker 2: I get the impression obviously you're in Australia, but you
Speaker 2: worked with quite a few people from other parts of
Speaker 2: the world. Is that correct?
Speaker 18: Yeah?
Speaker 10: And what a blessing that is?
Speaker 2: Huh yeah, God bless the Internet.
Speaker 15: Yes, honestly so. Steph my drummer, my music partner. He
Speaker 15: was connected with Tommy Denander in Sweden. So Tommy was
Speaker 15: involved in creating the guitar parts that you hear on
Speaker 15: the them.
Speaker 19: Yeah.
Speaker 10: He was just an absolute gun.
Speaker 15: And then when it came down to mixing, we sort
Speaker 15: of explored different ideas, but we wanted to reach out
Speaker 15: further than just what we have in Australia, so we
Speaker 15: hit up Matt Doherty who was in Chicago, Okay, and
Speaker 15: he worked with one of my all time favorite bands
Speaker 15: with his seven Dust.
Speaker 2: Oh you're a seven Dust fan, like.
Speaker 10: The most insane seven Dust fan ever.
Speaker 2: We're We're going to have to circle back to that Okay,
Speaker 2: good because I am too. Okay, excellent, Oh.
Speaker 10: Matt, you're my best friend.
Speaker 15: And yeah, so Matt was Matt was able to mix
Speaker 15: that album for us, and he did a stellar job
Speaker 15: on it. You know, he's he has a huge rap sheet, right,
Speaker 15: So and then we had Elliott mulhan do the mastering
Speaker 15: on it and he was out in La as well.
Speaker 15: So okay, yeah, it's been a it's been a magic
Speaker 15: input from all around.
Speaker 2: The world outstanding. Is that is that important to you
Speaker 2: or or is that just kind kind of how it
Speaker 2: worked out where those were the best people to do it.
Speaker 2: Like when you started this project, you and your partner
Speaker 2: in this stuff, did you did you feel like, yeah,
Speaker 2: we want to kind of you know, maybe we'll get
Speaker 2: some American input on part of this and maybe or
Speaker 2: maybe we'll work with somebody from Sweden. I mean, was
Speaker 2: that did you set out to do that in the
Speaker 2: beginning or or maybe in the beginning, did you think, well,
Speaker 2: you know, we're here, we are I mean, Perth, I'm
Speaker 2: sure there's an incredible music scene. I'm sure you're surrounded
Speaker 2: by a lot of great talent there. So did it
Speaker 2: becoming more of an international effort? Was that a surprise
Speaker 2: or did you intend that all along?
Speaker 12: Do you know?
Speaker 10: It's so funny. I don't think it was like this
Speaker 10: intentional idea to do that. I think it was about
Speaker 10: sourcing the best people for that, you know, in the moment,
Speaker 10: do you know what I mean?
Speaker 17: And so.
Speaker 15: I always feel that brunching out of our little tiny
Speaker 15: state and you know, this country all the way down
Speaker 15: at the other end of the world. I don't think
Speaker 15: that could ever save you badly, are you know?
Speaker 18: So?
Speaker 10: I think for us it's definitely important to.
Speaker 15: You know, try to build alliances and friendships or you know,
Speaker 15: a work friendship with people outside of Australia.
Speaker 10: Because we were so isolated down here.
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 10: Yeah, it's just good to.
Speaker 15: Sort of expand it out and sort of like see
Speaker 15: where those those leads lead.
Speaker 2: Absolutely, what does the music scene like where you are
Speaker 2: in Perth?
Speaker 10: No, I mean we it's so interesting.
Speaker 15: I was just talking with a friend earlier about this, like,
Speaker 15: we have a little ecosystem down here in Perth and
Speaker 15: we have to because we are so isolated. Like I said,
Speaker 15: so it is an established little working community and the
Speaker 15: bands here are you know, their killer they're so good.
Speaker 15: We have such a plethora of amazing musicians in this
Speaker 15: one little city. That is unfair that we're stuck here.
Speaker 7: Right.
Speaker 2: That's interesting is Perth is a pretty large city, I assume,
Speaker 2: right it may even be. Is it the largest city
Speaker 2: in Australia?
Speaker 13: No?
Speaker 15: Oh hell, I mean like if you're talking like space
Speaker 15: and you know land Masks, Sure like w A where
Speaker 15: we live in Western Australia. Sure it's the biggest state
Speaker 15: in terms of population and you know, density than.
Speaker 2: Nah, gotcha, gotcha? Okay, yeah, you'd.
Speaker 15: Probably want to be looking like to the east coast
Speaker 15: like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane.
Speaker 2: Oh okay, okay, yeah, it occurs to me.
Speaker 15: Ru on the West Coast and oh okay, we're definitely
Speaker 15: the most isolated city.
Speaker 2: Oh okay, okay. Interesting? Interesting? And what what what about radio? There?
Speaker 2: Are I have no idea what the radio situation is
Speaker 2: in Australia. Are there a lot of stations that support
Speaker 2: hard rock and metal and and and support bands like
Speaker 2: Ashes of Autumn.
Speaker 10: I wish I could say yes, but.
Speaker 15: Unfortunately, you know, we live in this this tiny bubble
Speaker 15: down here in Australia. It's very focused on commercial radio.
Speaker 15: And you know what's going on, you know, commercially.
Speaker 10: Don't get me wrong.
Speaker 15: There are some independent stations that support us and support
Speaker 15: the local communities, but we need a bigger we need
Speaker 15: a bigger network.
Speaker 2: Sure, sure, yeah, no doubt, no doubt. And what about
Speaker 2: So what's the live situation? Are you able to get out?
Speaker 2: Do you do you play live? Do you play these
Speaker 2: songs live? Or or what's happening there?
Speaker 19: Yeah?
Speaker 15: Look, I mean honestly, after COVID, Perth suffered a lot.
Speaker 15: So there was a lot of venues that closed down
Speaker 15: and you know, we I'm sure like every other city
Speaker 15: has to battle with you know, cover bands and other
Speaker 15: things like that, and the original scene gets you know,
Speaker 15: suffers as well. Sure, so a lot of our original
Speaker 15: venues kind of closed down, like they just weren't able
Speaker 15: to function anymore. So yeah, the options to play here,
Speaker 15: while said they're they're they're still quite limited. Okay, So
Speaker 15: that kind of really poses a question and you know
Speaker 15: makes us drive forward to like put a tour together
Speaker 15: or you know, do an Australian tour or do a
Speaker 15: maybe even international or something like that.
Speaker 2: So right, right, so you're not I assume you're not
Speaker 2: playing out live currently or maybe you are. I don't know.
Speaker 10: No, we have a next show booked on the twenty May.
Speaker 15: Oh okay, okay, yeah, so that's with a couple of
Speaker 15: the one of a couple of persons like amazing bands,
Speaker 15: like other sort of heavy heavy hitters.
Speaker 10: Okay, so yeah, we're doing like a three band lineup. Yeah,
Speaker 10: that's going to be good, twenty set of May.
Speaker 3: You should come down.
Speaker 2: Oh sure, yeah, I'll make the drive.
Speaker 4: I would I would like listen.
Speaker 10: I flew, I fleeted the state several times to see
Speaker 10: seven to us. You might as well come down and
Speaker 10: see us.
Speaker 2: No, no kidding, uh no kidding. Yeah, I would love
Speaker 2: to visit Australia. That is a place I've always wanted
Speaker 2: to go, for sure.
Speaker 19: No do it?
Speaker 18: Now?
Speaker 2: How does that work as far as the band there,
Speaker 2: because obviously you have you know, uh, it's not going
Speaker 2: to be you know unless unless uh your guitar player
Speaker 2: is fine, And I mean, how does that work? Do
Speaker 2: you have a do you have a band put together
Speaker 2: that that for the live shows there that's obviously not
Speaker 2: necessarily everyone who played on the on the album or
Speaker 2: how does that work?
Speaker 10: Yeah?
Speaker 15: Yeah, absolutely, I mean we had to put that together.
Speaker 15: So Tommy was you know, an integral part of that recording.
Speaker 15: But of course we needed live players, so we do
Speaker 15: have a full band. They're amazing musicians in their own right,
Speaker 15: and I just feel completely blessed that they're you know,
Speaker 15: want to be a part of the live shows and stuff.
Speaker 2: So excellent, excellent. So you have so how many times
Speaker 2: have you have you been to the States?
Speaker 10: I've been to the States now four or five times?
Speaker 15: Oh wow, no kidding, yeah, but all for different reasons
Speaker 15: and sort of spent different times. They're seeing different bands
Speaker 15: and just you know, seeing the sights and going to
Speaker 15: different states and stuff. But more often than not to
Speaker 15: have been tests visit the Seven Dust Crew and sort
Speaker 15: of you know, pitch up at their gigs.
Speaker 2: Oh that's really cool. That's so I assume you've met
Speaker 2: them and hung out with them.
Speaker 7: I have, do you know.
Speaker 15: I've been so blessed, you know that they're wonderful people.
Speaker 15: And I was lucky enough to get pulled on stage
Speaker 15: in Albuquerque.
Speaker 10: Oh wow, one random show really and then again in
Speaker 10: Perth as well.
Speaker 2: So oh, very cool to do songs with them.
Speaker 15: Yeah, like they were just in the middle of their songs,
Speaker 15: do you know, like I think The first one in
Speaker 15: Albuquerque was Angel's.
Speaker 10: Son, and they just like, come on, come up here
Speaker 10: and have a sing. And I was like, oh okay. Meanwhile,
Speaker 10: I'd been to you know, three shows prior, so I
Speaker 10: had no voice, so I'm like, this is great. But
Speaker 10: just one in Perth was yeah, praise got up and
Speaker 10: sang that with them and it was great.
Speaker 2: Oh that's really cool. That's really cool. Was Angel's Son?
Speaker 2: Is that a huge hit in Australia because that was
Speaker 2: in America commercially, that is their biggest song as far
Speaker 2: as the.
Speaker 10: Radio, you know, I wish that Seven Dust were bigger. Yeah.
Speaker 10: I mean they do have a following obviously.
Speaker 15: I mean they're worldwide known, right, yeah, but it's still
Speaker 15: it's still that that sort of difference between commercial and
Speaker 15: underground and whatnot.
Speaker 10: You know.
Speaker 15: But look, every every time they come here, they sell
Speaker 15: out shows. So yeah, they're very much loved here.
Speaker 2: Oh that's awesome. That's awesome. Do you have a favorite
Speaker 2: Seven Dust song?
Speaker 10: No, that's like asking me what my favorite pet is, Like, No,
Speaker 10: I can't, I just I just cannot. They can't. They
Speaker 10: just keep evolving and it's a beautiful thing.
Speaker 2: Yeah, I do have a favorite a personal favorite of mine,
Speaker 2: but I can't. It's from Yeah, it's from Early and
Speaker 2: their their catalog. But I can't. Actually, I can't say
Speaker 2: that album. It's from Oh what the hell? What's the
Speaker 2: name of the.
Speaker 10: Song is I'll put You on the Spot. I'm so sorry.
Speaker 2: What's that? Yeah?
Speaker 10: I put you on the Spot?
Speaker 2: I can't is that the uh? I can't remember now,
Speaker 2: I'm drawing a blank. I haven't had enough caffeine. The
Speaker 2: song starts with the song title starts with a B.
Speaker 2: But I can't say it on American radio, at least
Speaker 2: not on a Saturday, at least not on a Saturday morning.
Speaker 2: But you know, you know the name of a female dog?
Speaker 18: You know what?
Speaker 17: You know?
Speaker 2: The song?
Speaker 10: Sure?
Speaker 16: Right?
Speaker 2: Help me out what what album is that? Because I'm
Speaker 2: drawing a blank on the name of the album. I
Speaker 2: haven't listened to it in forever.
Speaker 10: I want to say that was off. I think that
Speaker 10: was off the self titled.
Speaker 2: Right, It's got to be it was because it was
Speaker 2: their first one on road Runner when when when they
Speaker 2: when they signed with Roadrunner Records, So yeah, it's got
Speaker 2: to be the self titled one. But yeah, that's my
Speaker 2: personal favorite. I love that song. And and and fortunately
Speaker 2: every time I've seen them live, because that was never
Speaker 2: released as a single, at least not in America, but
Speaker 2: they always play that live every time I've seen them,
Speaker 2: they have at least. So yeah, that's my that's my
Speaker 2: persona that live.
Speaker 7: Really.
Speaker 15: Oh No, I have been too like a few shows now,
Speaker 15: I mean to lots and lots, but as many as
Speaker 15: I possibly can.
Speaker 10: But I've never seen them play it live.
Speaker 2: I've been I've been very lucky then, Yeah, because I
Speaker 2: think they've played it live. I've seen them a few times.
Speaker 2: I think every time they at least two of the
Speaker 2: three times they've played it live, and I'm always very
Speaker 2: very happy.
Speaker 10: Well, remind me to come to a seven Dosh show
Speaker 10: with you, Matt.
Speaker 2: Yes, yes, Well, let let us know next time you're
Speaker 2: coming here to see them. We'll make it happen. That's amazing.
Speaker 7: Oh, let's do it.
Speaker 10: It's a yeah, it's a date's all right?
Speaker 2: All right, you got it?
Speaker 18: You got it?
Speaker 2: So what else should we know about? So the album?
Speaker 2: Do you have an ETA at this point on when
Speaker 2: it's going to be out?
Speaker 15: I know you said this year, right, yes, yes, So
Speaker 15: there are some really exciting things going on in the
Speaker 15: Ashes camp at the moment that I can't give it
Speaker 15: all away just yet, but you know, just watch this
Speaker 15: space because there's some really really exciting stuff. So we're
Speaker 15: edging towards September, okay, September October for a release for
Speaker 15: the album.
Speaker 10: And you can keep up to date with all of
Speaker 10: that stuff on socials with us anyways.
Speaker 2: So yeah, absolutely, Oh where do the name come from?
Speaker 2: By the way, I didn't ask you that. I asked
Speaker 2: you about the name of the album, but I didn't
Speaker 2: ask you about the name of the band.
Speaker 4: Where does what?
Speaker 2: What does the meaning of Ashes of Autumn?
Speaker 10: Well, you know what I mean.
Speaker 15: I think when you're writing music, right, you write it
Speaker 15: in a way that it feels right in the moment,
Speaker 15: it's good, but you know, it's seasonal.
Speaker 10: It changes in the terms of how you might process it.
Speaker 15: You know, and the same with like with autumn, and
Speaker 15: the seasons change and it's like regrowth and rebirth and
Speaker 15: all that sort of stuff. And that's kind of what
Speaker 15: music or songwriting does.
Speaker 20: Right.
Speaker 15: It's like a you're putting it to bed and then
Speaker 15: hopefully somebody else can learn from it or get something
Speaker 15: from it.
Speaker 10: So it's like putting things to bed but then having
Speaker 10: a regrowth afterward.
Speaker 18: Yeah.
Speaker 2: Okay, okay, very cool.
Speaker 14: I like that.
Speaker 2: I like that very good. Oh, by the way, too,
Speaker 2: you've got some great music videos. I was, I was
Speaker 2: checking out the videos. I was especially curious to ask
Speaker 2: you about. Oh yeah, the video for when It Comes
Speaker 2: is really interesting? Can you can you tell us about this?
Speaker 2: And I encourage people, not right now, but after the show,
Speaker 2: I encourage people to go on YouTube and check it out.
Speaker 2: But this is really interesting, this this whole concept with
Speaker 2: it looks like it you know, it kind of looks
Speaker 2: like it's recorded with with old camcorders. And you got
Speaker 2: the guys who look like astronauts in the white suits.
Speaker 2: I mean, just can you tell us about this video?
Speaker 7: Oh?
Speaker 15: I would love to tell you the brown So Steph
Speaker 15: and I we we like to think outside the box, right, Yeah,
Speaker 15: and so we thought it would be an incredible idea
Speaker 15: to shoot all twelve videos for this album in one day.
Speaker 2: Oh really, So so we did.
Speaker 10: Yeah, but that took about six months of planning. It
Speaker 10: was a big, big yeah. So Steph is like a
Speaker 10: machine when it comes to the planning, because I'm not.
Speaker 7: So.
Speaker 15: So we worked together in planning and designing sets and
Speaker 15: working out how it might look and sort of like
Speaker 15: the shots that we wanted and you know how every
Speaker 15: song is gonna late look.
Speaker 10: But the special part of this was that each song
Speaker 10: was literally just a one take shot. So whatever you see,
Speaker 10: that's it.
Speaker 15: We're not going to go back and reshoot anything. Late
Speaker 15: project for us, I guess, so when it comes.
Speaker 10: We shot this in a huge.
Speaker 15: Warehouse and we went in the night before and we
Speaker 15: set up what you see that, you know, the big blacks,
Speaker 15: and that's just kind of like.
Speaker 10: Builders.
Speaker 15: I don't know if you've been to a construction you
Speaker 15: a construction site, right, and it's very heavy and it's
Speaker 15: just a tool of us. And it took about four
Speaker 15: or five hours to set up.
Speaker 10: Like this nine by nine you know square thing like
Speaker 10: it's was massive. It was yeah, and then we thought
Speaker 10: we did like that are in there, and we did
Speaker 10: videotaped all that when it start the video.
Speaker 15: To be like my my thought about it was that
Speaker 15: it was going to be shot in a way that
Speaker 15: we looked a little bit unhinged.
Speaker 10: And so the song itself is about.
Speaker 15: Depression or mental health challenges or anxiety. You can feel
Speaker 15: when it comes, and so it's all about like understanding
Speaker 15: when it comes and what happens in the moment. And
Speaker 15: so this having the guys dress up in the you know,
Speaker 15: the white outfits and stuff. They were kind of like
Speaker 15: resembling the bad critters that might come in when you know,
Speaker 15: these depressive things happen, or maybe doctors or something else,
Speaker 15: you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 10: And so yeah, it was just a moment of a
Speaker 10: little bit and incorporating it in a.
Speaker 15: Way that looks like we're being spied on, because that's
Speaker 15: kind of how you think people.
Speaker 10: Can relate to they're feeling it anxious or have mental
Speaker 10: health challenges. So yeah, that's kind of where that came from.
Speaker 15: And let me tell you, the pack up for that
Speaker 15: set was the worst pack up I've ever life.
Speaker 2: I can imagine it still haunts us to this wow.
Speaker 3: But yeah, but so you were you were able to.
Speaker 2: You were able to successfully film all those videos in
Speaker 2: one day.
Speaker 15: Correct, So everybody from this album has been shot in
Speaker 15: a twenty four hour period.
Speaker 10: So we arrived at the first shoot at like six
Speaker 10: thirty in the morning. I picked up our camera guy.
Speaker 15: Filming at eight, and then we finished around two thirty
Speaker 15: am and that's twelve songs.
Speaker 2: Wow, that's amazing.
Speaker 4: Yeah, well.
Speaker 15: It's a whole It was a whole experience that I
Speaker 15: said to Steph, like is this something that you would
Speaker 15: consider doing again? And the initial were like hell no.
Speaker 8: I was like, yeah, like we just do it better now, right,
Speaker 8: that's true.
Speaker 2: Now you know you certainly know how to do it
Speaker 2: now that you've done it once. Yeah, that's that's amazing. Wow.
Speaker 2: Good for you.
Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean that's it. Like, I mean, I don't
Speaker 10: know how you bands bands would consider doing something.
Speaker 7: Like that, but I don't know.
Speaker 15: For us, it just felt right and we loved the process.
Speaker 15: It was an amazing process of planning. Like I said,
Speaker 15: took about six months. But when you plan something for
Speaker 15: that long and then when it comes to.
Speaker 10: Fruition and you see the product at the end, it's like,
Speaker 10: oh there that was actually really good.
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's amazing. Wow, fantastic. Well, so I'm thinking
Speaker 2: about so two things. One is I'm thinking about you know,
Speaker 2: we did play the we we played undone to open
Speaker 2: the segment. I was thinking about closing the segment with uh,
Speaker 2: I do want to play another ashes of bottom track.
Speaker 2: I was saying about closing the segment with all that
Speaker 2: you have, because I think that's my personal favorite. Uh,
Speaker 2: if that is a if you're amenable to that.
Speaker 10: Oh no, I love that, you love that?
Speaker 15: I mean that was the first that we released, okay,
Speaker 15: you know, and and I think that it just hit
Speaker 15: like well as the first release, you know, like it's
Speaker 15: not a bit of it's a bit catchy, it's a
Speaker 15: bit poppy, but it's still got a bit grit, you know. Yeah,
Speaker 15: And I mean, would you have thought that I wrote
Speaker 15: this song one piano matt oh Okay.
Speaker 2: No, I would not have thought that. That's interesting?
Speaker 10: I know, right.
Speaker 21: Yeah.
Speaker 10: When I first wrote it, it almost had like a
Speaker 10: very eighties vibe to it. But then I took it
Speaker 10: to the you know, we worked it out in the
Speaker 10: studio and it's like, oh, okay, this is what it's
Speaker 10: gonna sound right now. But yeah, I love I love
Speaker 10: If you want to close the show with that, I'm
Speaker 10: more than stoke is that?
Speaker 13: Uh?
Speaker 2: Is that always how you write on the piano.
Speaker 10: For this album? I think, like I want to say,
Speaker 10: like maybe.
Speaker 22: Is on the piano okay, then maybe acoustic guitar okay,
Speaker 22: and then you know, take it to the guys, and
Speaker 22: we kind of all take it to Step and then
Speaker 22: take it to Tommy or whatever and just send skeleton
Speaker 22: songs and this.
Speaker 15: Is what this is, and this is the melody idea,
Speaker 15: and just give him a very detailed brief on what
Speaker 15: we are hearing.
Speaker 10: But yeah, this this song. I actually love this song.
Speaker 10: Like it's came back so well, Like I was like, dude,
Speaker 10: this is this is awesome, Like it's a.
Speaker 2: Vibe, very cool, very cool. Yeah, at the end of
Speaker 2: our discussion, I'm going to play that I might I
Speaker 2: might sneak in a seven Dust song after that. It's
Speaker 2: for the hell of it. But uh, okay, Melanie, this
Speaker 2: has been wonderful. Tell us the other thing I want
Speaker 2: to make sure our listeners know before you go, where
Speaker 2: is the best place for people to go to keep
Speaker 2: up with everything that the band is doing everything odd.
