Speaker 7: Let's get this up here. We have Scott Beatley returning
Speaker 7: to the show from the band Warhog. Of course. Hello Scotty, hey,
Speaker 7: how are you all doing very well? Very well? It's
Speaker 7: wonderful have on. I love this of course. The new
Speaker 7: ep Ethereal Journey brand new from this just came out.
Speaker 7: What April wait is this?
Speaker 3: How yet?
Speaker 5: No it's not.
Speaker 7: Oh, it's about to be. Yeah.
Speaker 8: We dropped the single Starlight last month on the I
Speaker 8: think the tenth, the sixth of the tenth, I'm I
Speaker 8: think it was the sixth, just about a month ago, okay,
Speaker 8: and then the.
Speaker 5: Rest of the EP is out on the tenth of April.
Speaker 7: Oh okay, wow, okay, so coming right up. Very very cool.
Speaker 7: By the way, I apologize, I think I might have
Speaker 7: said starflight, but it's Starlight, Yeah, Starlight.
Speaker 5: Yeah.
Speaker 7: I think I might have said starflight because I'm you know,
Speaker 7: the lyrics. I'm thinking about a starflight, I guess as
Speaker 7: as we all are.
Speaker 8: Yeah, launching. I I've been keeping track of that. I
Speaker 8: knew that was coming, but I didn't realize the timing
Speaker 8: of it was so kind of perfect that it's the
Speaker 8: EP is going to release the.
Speaker 5: Day that they come back.
Speaker 7: Oh that's cool.
Speaker 5: Yeah, it was kind of fun.
Speaker 7: So that's awesome. That's awesome. So tell us about the
Speaker 7: inspiration for this for this EP.
Speaker 5: So the EP's kind of got a funny story.
Speaker 8: It's the redheaded stepchild of sorts we had. Originally we
Speaker 8: were working on our last bunch of EPs. Ethereal not
Speaker 8: in the Ethereal Journey. That's this one dystopian chronicle. Oh yes, yes, right,
Speaker 8: we had We had originally planned that to be an
Speaker 8: album with six or seven songs, and then we had
Speaker 8: actually written Ethereal Journey to be kind of the big
Speaker 8: third act of that album, and our PR folks that
Speaker 8: we were working with at the time were like, hey,
Speaker 8: you really shouldn't do that. You should break this up
Speaker 8: into multiple, multiple EPs. And then we got to a
Speaker 8: point where we needed they wanted us to do more
Speaker 8: singles and you know, individual songs than just release one
Speaker 8: EP that was one twenty three minute long song, and
Speaker 8: so we kind of did that, and we just kept
Speaker 8: putting off Ethereal Journey. We were like, all right, well
Speaker 8: we'll just do this next is its own thing, and
Speaker 8: and so that's we just finally got to this point.
Speaker 8: It was just kind of a coincidence that the song
Speaker 8: that was gonna go with it ended up being Starlight.
Speaker 8: Oh yeah, those two songs together were kind of the
Speaker 8: ones that we really wanted to release. Starlight we needed
Speaker 8: to release it with something, and the next thing that
Speaker 8: we knew we wanted to release to his Ethereal Journey.
Speaker 8: So it was like a let's just do like a
Speaker 8: space adventure themed EP and and and.
Speaker 7: Just go from there right right. Something I want people
Speaker 7: to know, and I'm sure you want them to know
Speaker 7: this too, is you got to go online and see
Speaker 7: the video. I love the video for Starlight.
Speaker 5: Thank you.
Speaker 7: I'm curious to know more about about that because you know,
Speaker 7: you guys are in your your your space suits. I
Speaker 7: guess would be the uniforms. Uh, it's just it's just
Speaker 7: you know, and you're you're just playing the song, but
Speaker 7: it's it's it's a lot of fun. I really like
Speaker 7: the video.
Speaker 5: Thanks.
Speaker 8: Yeah. Well, first, real quick, before we jump into all
Speaker 8: that stuff, I just want to say hi to gen
Speaker 8: and and say that as much as we've been able to,
Speaker 8: we've been following kind of your advocacy stuff with the
Speaker 8: healthcare and all that. You know, it's really inspiring. You're
Speaker 8: doing a lot of great work and I just hope
Speaker 8: that you are seeing the results out of it that
Speaker 8: you want to see out of it. I just wanted
Speaker 8: to say that up on the top of the conversation.
Speaker 7: So oh, very nice, doing my best. And and by
Speaker 7: the way, she is wearing her WARHOWG shirt. We are
Speaker 7: today as am I we're both wearing our WARHOWG shirts.
Speaker 9: You are one of my favorites, so you're working quite
Speaker 9: a bit with me.
Speaker 7: Thank you, thank you.
Speaker 5: So so yeah, the video.
Speaker 8: When we had this song put together, one of the
Speaker 8: things we knew we wanted to do was do what
Speaker 8: actual proper music video for YouTube. Like all the stuff
Speaker 8: we have right now is just kind of stuff we've
Speaker 8: made for ourselves and it's just live shots and whatever.
Speaker 8: So we started talking about, like, well, what's it take
Speaker 8: logistically to to do something at that level, and we
Speaker 8: decided that we were doing for Starlight because it's kind
Speaker 8: of that anthemy, it's kind of it's very single perfect
Speaker 8: with the catchy chorus and all that, and it's under
Speaker 8: five minutes long, so that's also nice. So we really
Speaker 8: just kind of settled on this idea of like, well,
Speaker 8: let's just get Amazon Prime spacesuit costumes and let's just
Speaker 8: we'll just do it the easiest way we can think of. Eric's,
Speaker 8: for lack of a better title, ex brother in law
Speaker 8: is a professional documentary filmmaker and so he signed up
Speaker 8: to help us with this and he did a great job.
Speaker 8: I mean, his camera work is really awesome and he
Speaker 8: had a drone, and he really knew.
Speaker 5: What he was doing.
Speaker 8: He had done he's done some music videos before, and
Speaker 8: we just rented out this place that has this huge
Speaker 8: led wall, and it was like, all right, well, let's
Speaker 8: just let's just make it look silly and also make
Speaker 8: it look serious like they want, you know, like, obviously
Speaker 8: we're four dudes in just the cheapest NASA knockoff costumes,
Speaker 8: and like our drummer is wearing a space helmet through
Speaker 8: the whole thing, which is a whole other story.
Speaker 7: That's true. You never actually see your drummer. He's got
Speaker 7: the helmet of the whole time.
Speaker 8: Yeah, and so we, you know, we were like, it's
Speaker 8: gonna look ridiculous, So let's just kind of play it
Speaker 8: serious and ridiculous at the same time, and hopefully it
Speaker 8: comes across, because like, the last thing I want is
Speaker 8: people thinking, oh, these guys think they look cool, but
Speaker 8: they look like a bunch of idiots. Right, No, we
Speaker 8: we know we look like idiots, but we also know
Speaker 8: that are we believe ye know that the song is
Speaker 8: really good, so it kind of shouldn't matter what.
Speaker 7: We look like, right right, Yeah, all right, so why
Speaker 7: is the drummer wearing the helmet.
Speaker 5: So the on this EP we so.
Speaker 8: Our our drummer, Robert left the band at the end
Speaker 8: of last year. He left our in our yeah after
Speaker 8: our final show in in December, and we knew we
Speaker 8: wanted this to come out. So we were working with
Speaker 8: another drummer, a friend of ours through another band called
Speaker 8: the Humanist Project based out of I guess, Houston and
Speaker 8: somewhat Florida. These guys that Eric knows, their drummer is
Speaker 8: a dude named Chris Lucci and he is a total monster.
Speaker 8: And you know, Eric took this opportunity to work with
Speaker 8: him on the whole So Chris did the drums for
Speaker 8: the whole EP. Okay, so that's so it's Timmy here
Speaker 8: on Starlight and Ethereal Journey and then Doctor Doctor. But
Speaker 8: of course to shoot a video in Dallas, Texas, we
Speaker 8: needed a human drummer that we could have access to
Speaker 8: for a day, right, And so so our our original
Speaker 8: drummer from like when we were all in a like
Speaker 8: our young adult band, Blake knew we were looking for
Speaker 8: a drummer and said, hey, I'll help fill out for
Speaker 8: some gigs if you guys need me. And so we
Speaker 8: just pulled him in and said we'll just sit behind
Speaker 8: the can't wear this space helmet. He was He was like,
Speaker 8: I mean true heroics there, because that's three hours in
Speaker 8: a room without air conditioning, under lights and fog, and
Speaker 8: that big led wall was hot. He wore that thing
Speaker 8: and performed for like three straight hours and it was
Speaker 8: he handed me that helmet afterwards and it was disgusting. Yeah,
Speaker 8: but that but Blake has decided to to stay with
Speaker 8: us full time and be our drummer going forward. So okay,
Speaker 8: that's that's that is our drummer, Blake. But he wanted
Speaker 8: he didn't want to he wanted to wear that helmet.
Speaker 8: That was kind of his idea because he didn't want
Speaker 8: people to misunderstand that that's not him playing drums. Didn't
Speaker 8: want to like, you know, steal any of Chris's thunder
Speaker 8: because Chris did such a great job on the on
Speaker 8: the track. But Blake is also a total monster.
Speaker 7: Yeah, and we're really excited to work on some new
Speaker 7: stuff with them, so oh fantastic.
Speaker 5: Yeah.
Speaker 7: So when you play the song in the video, how
Speaker 7: many how many times do you have to run through it?
Speaker 7: Like during that because you said it was a three
Speaker 7: hour shoot.
Speaker 5: Yeah, we probably did it. I'd say ten eleven, twelve times.
Speaker 8: Maybe, Yeah, we just we just would play it and
Speaker 8: then we would reset and just play it again, and
Speaker 8: reset and play it again.
Speaker 5: It was it was pretty ridiculous. It was just non stop.
Speaker 8: Every six seven minutes were play the song over and
Speaker 8: over again. The best was when there's a couple of
Speaker 8: slow motion shots in the video that Jonathan's camera would
Speaker 8: film at forty eight frames per second, so he was
Speaker 8: able to film us at high speed and then slow
Speaker 8: us down oh slo mo, which meant we had to
Speaker 8: mime to the song at two hundred percent speed, which
Speaker 8: was really hard to do, only because it sounded so ridiculous.
Speaker 8: And you know, you play things fast in a band,
Speaker 8: in a metal band, but like to hear a song
Speaker 8: and like trying to play along with it in mime
Speaker 8: and then like do the vocals and stuff.
Speaker 9: It was.
Speaker 8: It was pretty silly. I'm surprised we've got any good
Speaker 8: footage at all, but there you go.
Speaker 5: We saved that one for the end because we knew
Speaker 5: after that we'd be done. Yeah.
Speaker 7: Yeah, Like I said, the video came out great. I
Speaker 7: love the video, Thank you. So I'm curious about the
Speaker 7: title track. So the title track is twenty three minutes.
Speaker 7: Is that the longest that's got to be the longest
Speaker 7: song you guys have done? Right?
Speaker 10: Oh?
Speaker 8: Yeah by far?
Speaker 7: Yeah?
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that was the thing Eric wanted.
Speaker 8: Eric's always wanted to do a really long, epic, continuous
Speaker 8: song like that.
Speaker 7: Yeah.
Speaker 8: One of our favorite bands growing up is Dream Theater
Speaker 8: and they they had an EP that came out one
Speaker 8: time called Change of Seasons and it was like one
Speaker 8: side A was this one song called Change of Seasons
Speaker 8: that was I don't know, five or six movements and
Speaker 8: it was twenty two something minutes long. Yeah, and the
Speaker 8: rest of it was all live recordings and and he
Speaker 8: was like, I want to do that someday.
Speaker 5: And so that idea has stuck with him.
Speaker 8: As soon as we started Warhog and we started writing slower,
Speaker 8: longer songs and was like, oh, this song's ten minutes. Oh,
Speaker 8: this song's also ten minutes. This he immediate was like
Speaker 8: I'm gonna do ethereal Journey and I was like, all right,
Speaker 8: you like go nuts?
Speaker 5: He did.
Speaker 8: He showed up with it one day, yeah, and uh so, yeah,
Speaker 8: that's just it. It was just his little challenge to
Speaker 8: himself to write something that long and continuous, and then
Speaker 8: for us to all kind of start learning it and
Speaker 8: recording it, and.
Speaker 5: It was a it's been it's been fun.
Speaker 8: I'm glad that we finished it so that other people
Speaker 8: can listen to it, because we've been enjoying it for
Speaker 8: I probably a year or so now, sure, and knowing
Speaker 8: how kind of ridiculous it is, but.
Speaker 7: Well but interestingly. So, you know, when I listened to it,
Speaker 7: it doesn't seem like at the end of it, it
Speaker 7: doesn't seem like twenty three minutes has gone by, which
Speaker 7: and I mean that in the best possible way. Yeah,
Speaker 7: it's it's like like there's a band. There's a band
Speaker 7: in our area called Able Blood, and they have a
Speaker 7: song called mental Note that's eleven minutes. But I remember
Speaker 7: telling those guys, you get to the end of it,
Speaker 7: you don't feel like it was eleven minutes. Somehow it
Speaker 7: seems like half that. And I get the same feeling
Speaker 7: listening to Ethereal Journey. Yeah, it's long, but at the
Speaker 7: end of it, I don't feel like it's been twenty
Speaker 7: three minutes. It keeps me engaged when I listen to it,
Speaker 7: so I you know, I think that's your credit. I
Speaker 7: think it came out great. I really like it a lot,
Speaker 7: and I encourage people to listen to it and invest
Speaker 7: invest the time to listen to it because it's really good,
Speaker 7: really good.
Speaker 5: Thanks, thank you. Yeah, now'll he will love to hear that.
Speaker 7: I agree.
Speaker 8: It's it's fun to go back, even for me to
Speaker 8: listen to because I I still you know, like obviously
Speaker 8: I recorded singing it, but I don't know that I
Speaker 8: know the lyrics all the way through, Like I don't
Speaker 8: know that I've got to memorize because I've always had
Speaker 8: the sheet in front of me because it is like
Speaker 8: nine verses or something music, right, you know, to where
Speaker 8: I'm just trying to figure out what I'm what comes next?
Speaker 8: Oh yeah, it's this part, you know, And so I'm
Speaker 8: always kind of even when I listen to it, I
Speaker 8: get taken on that little adventure myself. Yeah, oh yeah,
Speaker 8: this is this is the part where the drums kick in, right,
Speaker 8: So it's fun. It's a fun little tune because that's
Speaker 8: what only knows if we'll work it up live and
Speaker 8: play it.
Speaker 7: I was curious about that. Yeah, that was gonna be
Speaker 7: my next question. Actually, do you have plans to play
Speaker 7: that live, but.
Speaker 5: We've talked about what it would look like. I mean,
Speaker 5: the reality is.
Speaker 8: It would take up so much of our set to
Speaker 8: do just the one thing we've talked about doing, like
Speaker 8: let's pick the ten minutes that would be the best
Speaker 8: to do and kind of like hit all the spots.
Speaker 8: So we'll maybe start looking at that this summer. But yeah,
Speaker 8: I honestly, I honestly don't know if well we'll do that.
Speaker 8: It might just be something fun that we recorded, and
Speaker 8: you know, you just got to imagine what it would
Speaker 8: sound like live.
Speaker 7: And the story that you're telling in that song, it's
Speaker 7: kind of I mean, that's the main crux of the story,
Speaker 7: right like Starlight's kind of the the introduction. You know,
Speaker 7: here we are, we're going to space and then and
Speaker 7: then Ethereal Journey is the story.
Speaker 8: Right Well, yeah, they're not really related, they're just they're
Speaker 8: just con winceiate deadally themed. Okay, Similarly, right like Starlight
Speaker 8: was a thing that I mean in my head, Eric
Speaker 8: had already written Ethereal Journey.
Speaker 7: I knew what it was.
Speaker 8: I'd been you know, I had recorded demos of it
Speaker 8: for us to work through. Oh okay, you know, probably
Speaker 8: back in twenty twenty three. Okay, right, so by the
Speaker 8: time I'm writing Starlight two years later, I'm not thinking, oh,
Speaker 8: these two songs are all related, oh, because there was
Speaker 8: so much time between them.
Speaker 7: Oh interesting, Okay, yeah, because.
Speaker 8: Because I remember the plan was to release it as
Speaker 8: the follow up from our first album, right, so like
Speaker 8: we've we've just been waiting to get this one out
Speaker 8: the door. Yeah, it just so happened that the timing
Speaker 8: was like, oh, what are the two songs ethereal Journey
Speaker 8: and Starlight? Of course they would be right, right, No,
Speaker 8: that makes sense. Yeah, so yes, Starlight's different. It's just
Speaker 8: it's it's kind of my you know, let's send a
Speaker 8: bunch of dudes up into space and send them on
Speaker 8: a ure where Eric's is more like it's, you know,
Speaker 8: apocalyptic future we've got to send It's kind of it's
Speaker 8: kind of almost Hail Mary ish in a way. Of course,
Speaker 8: I know that that had nothing to do with it,
Speaker 8: because he had not read that book and that movie
Speaker 8: was like years from being made, sure, but it's like,
Speaker 8: you know, the planet is super dying and we get
Speaker 8: a strange message and he, you know, the the lone
Speaker 8: Traveler gets sent off to go find out what the
Speaker 8: message is, and it's not necessarily help.
Speaker 5: It's someone.
Speaker 8: It's someone or something that transforms this guy into a god,
Speaker 8: basically gives him all this cosmic power, and then instead
Speaker 8: of coming back to help the earth, he's going to
Speaker 8: come back and conquer it, you know, right. It's just
Speaker 8: kind of a weird you know, that's that's kind of
Speaker 8: the story of Ethereal Journey.
Speaker 7: Yeah. Yeah, and then so and then you you close
Speaker 7: it with You've got the cover of Doctor Doctor by UFO,
Speaker 7: which and by the way, you know, some people are
Speaker 7: going to listen to it and not realize it's a cover,
Speaker 7: you know, some people obviously. I'm sure you have fans
Speaker 7: who may maybe have even told you, Oh, I didn't
Speaker 7: realize that first of that was a cover, because not
Speaker 7: everyone knows UFO obviously. But I really like that too,
Speaker 7: and I'm really I'm curious why you chose that song.
Speaker 7: And uh yeah, I mean I guess, I mean the
Speaker 7: name of the band it's taken from obviously fits the Uh.
Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't even think about that.
Speaker 8: Oh my gosh, yeah, yeah, of course that is I've
Speaker 8: I literally had not put that together until you just
Speaker 8: said it.
Speaker 5: That's hilarious.
Speaker 7: Oh, that's funny.
Speaker 5: How could I even miss that? My god?
Speaker 8: I wish you could see me like I'm doing the
Speaker 8: whole like Captain Picard face palming thing, like what am I?
Speaker 3: So?
Speaker 5: I'm a huge Iron Maiden fan. I always have been
Speaker 5: me too.
Speaker 7: Yep.
Speaker 8: And and and if you've ever seen them in concert,
Speaker 8: they're kind of you know, between bands.
Speaker 5: They always play house.
Speaker 8: Music, yes, but Iron Maidens like, all right, guys, everybody
Speaker 8: walked to the stage. Music is a live track of
Speaker 8: Doctor Doctor by UFO from the Strangers in the Night
Speaker 8: Oh live record.
Speaker 5: And they've been doing that for decades.
Speaker 8: Every time I've seen Iron Maiden since the nineties, they've
Speaker 8: come out to Doctor Doctor.
Speaker 7: Okay, and Eric and I went.
Speaker 8: And saw them a few years ago. We just happened
Speaker 8: to be at the same concert together, standing on the
Speaker 8: floor next to each other, and Doctor Doctor comes on,
Speaker 8: and I don't I don't know that he ever witnessed that,
Speaker 8: but like, the crowd goes nuts. It's like it's that
Speaker 8: first step into an Iron Maiden concert, which for so
Speaker 8: many of us is basically like going to church. You know,
Speaker 8: It's like here we go, right and the crowd gets
Speaker 8: real amped up and we're all.
Speaker 1: Singing doctor, Doctor Please, and he's like the.
Speaker 8: Song rocks and I was like, yeah, it does, and
Speaker 8: I knew it. I like, I've recorded demos of it
Speaker 8: myself just for fun, and I was like, we should,
Speaker 8: we should do this, and he was like absolutely. Which
Speaker 8: Eric is not one usually for covers, because I think
Speaker 8: a lot of times when you cover someone's music, it
Speaker 8: comes with a lot of expectation, right, like what bands
Speaker 8: do you really love and what bands are you trying
Speaker 8: to sound like? And can you pull it off? And
Speaker 8: and a lot of times it's best left I think avoided, right.
Speaker 8: But Eric was kind of like really keen on this
Speaker 8: idea of mine, which also he's usually not keen on
Speaker 8: my ideas anyway. So I worked on a I just
Speaker 8: worked this this version up, and uh, you know, we
Speaker 8: kind of went with it. And then when we had
Speaker 8: the EP and we were like, all right, well, we've
Speaker 8: got Starlight, we've got Ethereal Journey, we need something else
Speaker 8: to kind of round it out. And we really didn't
Speaker 8: have anything unreleased that we were waiting to release that
Speaker 8: isn't part of our next album, and so we just
Speaker 8: kind of were like, well, what's could we should we
Speaker 8: do Doctor Doctor? And was like, yeah, that would be
Speaker 8: fun because then it's like a it's a cover that
Speaker 8: we could probably release and that'll be fun and people
Speaker 8: that might listen to the original might find our cover
Speaker 8: and then find us and be like, oh these guys
Speaker 8: are you know, kind of they're they're heavy metal, they're
Speaker 8: doing something interesting, and just give us one extra thing
Speaker 8: that maybe could end up on the radio somewhere. There's
Speaker 8: a there's a guy in Dallas, Chaz he Chas Knight.
Speaker 8: He does a local show and one of his kind
Speaker 8: of recurring things is he'll do a show he hasn't
Speaker 8: maybe done it a while or I have not caught it,
Speaker 8: but he does like rock he calls it rock star
Speaker 8: karaoke okay, and the whole the whole program of that
Speaker 8: hour long show is covers by other bands. So he'll
Speaker 8: do like Pantera's cover of what is it Planet Caravan?
Speaker 8: Or like the Faith No More War Pigs, right, So
Speaker 8: like and I was like, oh, this would be a
Speaker 8: good way to get on that. We could be like
Speaker 8: a local band. One be a local band, but two
Speaker 8: having a cover that's kind of radio worthy. So you know,
Speaker 8: it was like, well, let's just throw Doctor Doctor together
Speaker 8: and put that out there with it, and it turned
Speaker 8: out to we had fun doing it, and yeah, I
Speaker 8: think it turned out pretty well. And like you mentioned that,
Speaker 8: I still can't believe that completely my mind.
Speaker 5: UFO. Uh And that's so funny. You think I'm kidding
Speaker 5: about that.
Speaker 8: But if you look anywhere that we've talked about the EP,
Speaker 8: that's not mentioned because I had not put that together somehow.
Speaker 8: I was just I'm so focused on it being like
Speaker 8: a cover and like, I hope this goes over well.
Speaker 8: I hope people, you know, like, oh, why Doctor Doctor,
Speaker 8: why are you guys doing the cover the UFO.
Speaker 5: But I never I really never put that together. I
Speaker 5: can't believe it.
Speaker 7: That's awesome. That's funny. So did did the song get
Speaker 7: on that show?
Speaker 5: We haven't released it yet. You're the you're if you're
Speaker 5: gonna play it, you're the first person to do it.
Speaker 7: Oh nice, nice, I am gonna. I am going to
Speaker 7: play it at the end of our conversation. So very good,
Speaker 7: very good. It'll be the world radio premiere of that track.
Speaker 7: I love it. We love those now and when you
Speaker 7: when you do a cover like that, is that. Did
Speaker 7: you say that's the first time you've done a cover
Speaker 7: in Warhawk.
Speaker 8: Yeah, like an official cover of someone else's stuff. I
Speaker 8: mean we've we've early early days, we played like a
Speaker 8: Black Sabbath song at a at a gig one night
Speaker 8: because we needed something to fill the space. Yeah, you know,
Speaker 8: like we only had ten minute long songs. We needed
Speaker 8: something that was only five minutes. You know, it's like, Okay,
Speaker 8: let's just play this.
Speaker 5: So so when you yeah, we don't really do covers, So.
Speaker 7: When you do, when you record a Doctor, Doctor, were
Speaker 7: you i mean, did you feel like you wanted to
Speaker 7: keep it close to the original or were you more
Speaker 7: concerned with kind of putting your own stamp on it
Speaker 7: or what was your approach there.
Speaker 5: I'd say about fifty to fifty.
Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, I don't.
Speaker 8: I don't love covers that very wildly from their original,
Speaker 8: with the exception of like all Along the watch Tower.
Speaker 8: I think is like when you try to reinvent a song,
Speaker 8: that's the gold standard, and we definitely weren't going to
Speaker 8: try and do that.
Speaker 7: Yeah.
Speaker 8: Yeah, but I also didn't I didn't want to make
Speaker 8: it a joke. I didn't want to I didn't want
Speaker 8: to force it into something that it wasn't. So I
Speaker 8: think I just maybe slowed it down just a hair
Speaker 8: and I took some of the guitar noodling away, Like
Speaker 8: the intro's got this really great shanker kind of improv
Speaker 8: solo that every time I've listened to it live, it's
Speaker 8: it's a little bit different. It's got a little bit
Speaker 8: of a different flavor. And then I can't really do
Speaker 8: that as one guitar player, right, So, you know, we
Speaker 8: did the harmonies and I kind of did it well,
Speaker 8: if Eric and I were going to do this live,
Speaker 8: what would it sound like. So I worked out the
Speaker 8: two parts and then we kind of just all right, okay,
Speaker 8: So it's got the chug in the background, it's got
Speaker 8: some different rhythms going on, you know, held out chords
Speaker 8: and some other stuff that I like to do. So
Speaker 8: I kind of made it ours without without really taking
Speaker 8: it too far from.
Speaker 5: I think what the original version is, which is just
Speaker 5: kind of like a heavy.
Speaker 7: Yeah U, which is what we love so right right,
Speaker 7: absolutely absolutely, So the ep Ethereal Journey comes out April tenth,
Speaker 7: and then it's going to be on all the streaming platforms.
Speaker 7: I assume that's correct. Excellent, excellent, and then are you
Speaker 7: playing these out live already or yeah.
Speaker 5: We had a show in.
Speaker 8: March in Houston, Okay, our first kind of show with Blake,
Speaker 8: our new guy who's along with us. We've got four
Speaker 8: shows that we're doing. I dare to call it a tour.
Speaker 8: It's really more like an extended weekend. But we're doing
Speaker 8: four nights in four states back to back here in
Speaker 8: a week or in a week and a half. We're
Speaker 8: doing Joplin, Missouri. That we're doing Louisville, Kentucky, Fort Wayne, Indiana,
Speaker 8: and Nashville, Franklin, Tennessee. Kind a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Speaker 8: We're gonna go play with some friends of ours called
Speaker 8: Salem's Child. They're based out of Fort Wayne, kind of Cocomo, Indiana.
Speaker 7: Okay.
Speaker 8: We're playing with well, a bunch of great bands just
Speaker 8: kind of all along the the trip, and that'll be
Speaker 8: kind of our ethereal journey, right and we're gonna you know,
Speaker 8: Starlight is the big one from that. Yeah, and uh
Speaker 8: so we're excited to play a bunch and get it
Speaker 8: out there. And it'll be nice that we have an
Speaker 8: EP that'll be out, the video will have been out,
Speaker 8: so hopefully people will have checked all of that stuff
Speaker 8: out and kind of know what they're getting into. We're
Speaker 8: not bringing the space suits or anything.
Speaker 7: I was about.
Speaker 8: I was about to ask you that, Yeah, it'll just
Speaker 8: be us in our you know, in our regular stage gear.
Speaker 8: But yeah, you know, we've got them, so who knows
Speaker 8: what will happen to them, right right?
Speaker 5: They might end up in the mix at some point.
Speaker 7: See and then uh, and then so what's what's next
Speaker 7: for you guys after this? Because you're always working on music.
Speaker 8: We are, we are, We've got We've got a couple
Speaker 8: of things, I you know, with Blake coming in, we
Speaker 8: want to give him an opportunity to kind of work
Speaker 8: himself into the band. So there's some smaller projects that
Speaker 8: I think we're gonna try and get out this year.
Speaker 5: One of them is, Uh, I've.
Speaker 8: Been teasing it on on YouTube if anybody has been
Speaker 8: paying attention, But I've been working on an EP celebrating
Speaker 8: the fortieth anniversary of Transformers, the movie Oh No Kidding,
Speaker 8: that we're going to release as Warhog. And it's because
Speaker 8: that soundtrack had a bunch of like really great kind
Speaker 8: of eighties rock tunes, including the Transformers theme. So I've
Speaker 8: I've been doing them and putting them on YouTube, and
Speaker 8: we're going to get Blake in the studio and he's
Speaker 8: going to do the drums on him, and Eric's going
Speaker 8: to mix and master them, and we're going to release
Speaker 8: those as just a fun EP, I think at the
Speaker 8: end of the summer, and then we've got we're gonna
Speaker 8: try and get in and do it live studio recording
Speaker 8: with Blake and just knock out a couple of the
Speaker 8: songs that we're playing on this little tour, and then
Speaker 8: because we're going to do a full album at the
Speaker 8: end of the year, start working on this thing called
Speaker 8: The Collector that we've been we've been developing in the background,
Speaker 8: and hopefully it'll come out early twenty twenty seven. The
Speaker 8: nine songs all kind of intentionally five minutes or less,
Speaker 8: very kind of straight up traditional metal, half concept.
Speaker 5: Album, but it's it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 8: We're some of the songs were really really excited about,
Speaker 8: and but it's gonna be kind of, I think our
Speaker 8: big eggs in a basket moment where we're gonna put
Speaker 8: all of our effort into this thing. We're gonna get
Speaker 8: it sounding perfect and then we're gonna hopefully start shopping
Speaker 8: it around to labels and see if we can do
Speaker 8: something with it.
Speaker 5: I think it's gonna be Maybe we're hoping.
Speaker 8: That it'll be the thing that starts to really push
Speaker 8: us forward in a lot of ways.
Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, Well, you guys are already doing great stuff.
Speaker 7: Love to see it, absolutely, absolutely love the EP, so
Speaker 7: Scott in a moment, we'll let you go. We'll hit
Speaker 7: that track Doctor Doctor, the world radio premiere of We're
Speaker 7: discover of Doctor Doctor by UFO. But where's the best
Speaker 7: place for people to go online to keep up with
Speaker 7: everything that you guys are doing as a band.

Speaker 8: That's warhog w a r h og dfw like Dallas
Speaker 8: for Worth and our website warhog band dot com. But

Speaker 7: single Starlight, you can find that, but the EP comes

Speaker 7: comes out April tenth. The single is out now, Starlight,
Speaker 7: And again I cannot stress enough. You must, you must
Speaker 7: not right now, wait till the end of the show.
Speaker 7: You must go to YouTube and check out the video
Speaker 7: for that. We love Warhogs so much too. Jenny and
Speaker 7: I both have our warhowg shirts.
Speaker 9: On Today Winning Today.
Speaker 7: Such a great band. We've had a lot of great
Speaker 7: bands from Texas on the show, but actually Warhog is
Speaker 7: absolutely one of our favorites. So oh yeah, yeah, definitely,
Speaker 7: and thank you again to Scott Beatley of Warhog for
Speaker 7: joining us on the show today. So quick. Music news
Speaker 7: billboard dot com has this article up Here are Latin
Speaker 7: music's biggest lawsuits and legal cases, including Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee,
Speaker 7: and more. I remember Daddy Yankee, and of course we
Speaker 7: all know Bad Bunny. It says here Latin music stars
Speaker 7: are facing big legal battles, including a massive reggae tone case,
Speaker 7: a nasty divorce turned rico suit, and a looming fight
Speaker 7: over a leaked sex tape. Oh my goodness, Well, so
Speaker 7: much going on in the world of Latin music. For
Speaker 7: some reason, that seems to be the most litigious genre
Speaker 7: at the moment, which is why we're talking about it.
Speaker 7: There's always like hip hop always has a lot of lawsuits,
Speaker 7: and you know, and there's always there's always lawsuits in
Speaker 7: every genre of music. But right now Latin music seems
Speaker 7: to be where a lot of attorneys are able to
Speaker 7: charge legal fees. It says here Latin music is as
Speaker 7: popular as ever, which is true. As a genre, it's
Speaker 7: really exploded. So it makes sense that stars like Bad
Speaker 7: Bunny are embroiled in a growing number of major legal
Speaker 7: battles in US courts. As the old music lawyer adage goes,
Speaker 7: where there's a hit, there's a writ. In other words,
Speaker 7: where there's where there's hit songs, there's money to be
Speaker 7: made and someone to sue very often. The genre has
Speaker 7: boomed in recent years, becoming the fastest growing core music
Speaker 7: genre in the US and hitting a record breaking one
Speaker 7: point four billion in revenue in twenty twenty four, making
Speaker 7: the genre's third consecutive year passing one billion dollars. The
Speaker 7: Recording Industry Association of America's Matt Bass said in an
Speaker 7: October report, quote, Latin music is in the US continues
Speaker 7: to gain popularity and generate generate increased value thanks to
Speaker 7: the incredible artists whose music connects across language and geographical
Speaker 7: barriers unquote. All that explosive growth again, this is from Billboard.
Speaker 7: All that explosive, explosive growth has been fueled not only
Speaker 7: by the global superstardom of Bad Bunny, who played this
Speaker 7: year's Super Bowl and cleaned up at the Grammy Awards,
Speaker 7: but also by the rise of artists like Colombian star
Speaker 7: Carol G or Carol. It might be Corol. I'm not
Speaker 7: sure k A r O L. It looks like Carol,
Speaker 7: but it might probably not. Carol doesn't sound like a
Speaker 7: particularly Latin sounding name, does it Carol? It's probably Corol G.
Speaker 7: And regional Mexican powerhouses and I'm sure I'm going to
Speaker 7: butcher these apologize in advance. Fuere's a regeda and or
Speaker 7: regeta and pezo pluma or peso pluma. But with great
Speaker 7: success comes great disputes. Reggaetne stars like Bad Bunny himself
Speaker 7: or facing unprecedented litigation over how key elements of their
Speaker 7: music are covered by copyright laws. This is where it
Speaker 7: gets interesting and something we talk about all the time
Speaker 7: on the show. This always comes up copyright infringement, copyright laws,
Speaker 7: intellectual property, all of it. Especially with the rise of
Speaker 7: other big names like Dell Records founder Angel DVR, are
Speaker 7: fighting criminal charges that could put them behind bars for years. Still,
Speaker 7: others like Daddy Yankee are using the courts to bring
Speaker 7: their own stunning allegations against others. To get you up
Speaker 7: to speed, here here's Billboard's quick guide to Latin music's
Speaker 7: major lawsuits, criminal cases, and legal battles. We break down
Speaker 7: five major cases and everything you need to know about them,
Speaker 7: followed by five more key legal disputes to watch in
Speaker 7: the months ahead. So I don't know that we'll get
Speaker 7: through all these. We'll try to speed through these because
Speaker 7: there's a lot here. Okay, So Reggaetnes jaw dropping copyright case,
Speaker 7: this is the first one. There is no bigger Latin
Speaker 7: music legal battle than the sprawling copyright lawsuit over the
Speaker 7: origins of Reggaetnes dembo rhythm. The boom of boom boom chick,
Speaker 7: boom a boom chick used in nearly Oh yeah, it
Speaker 7: used in nearly every song in the genre. Yeah, you
Speaker 7: know exactly what I'm even though I know exactly even
Speaker 7: though I'm butchered it. We all know exactly what that
Speaker 7: is because we all hear it. You know, if you're
Speaker 7: in Manchester on a summer day, when everyone's got their
Speaker 7: windows down in their cars, you'll certainly hear that coming
Speaker 7: out of many many cars. We hear it in our
Speaker 7: neighborhood quite a bit. That if you don't know what
Speaker 7: that is, let me see if I can do it again,
Speaker 7: but not do it so clumsily. The boom che boom
Speaker 7: chick boom che boom chick use And I wish I
Speaker 7: knew how to beatbox. I could replicate that perfectly, But
Speaker 7: you all know what that is. The case claims that
Speaker 7: crucial Now this is interesting. I've wondered about this. So
Speaker 7: the case here claims that that crucial element was essentially
Speaker 7: stolen from a single nineteen eighty nine song, and that
Speaker 7: it's time for the music business to pay up. So
Speaker 7: that beat, that rhythm that you hear in all those
Speaker 7: reggaetne songs that hear coming out of everybody's cars in
Speaker 7: the summertime, Uh.
Speaker 9: That's really that young. I thought it was older than.
Speaker 7: Somebody has traced that back to a single from nineteen
Speaker 7: eighty nine and says, pay me. The scale of the
Speaker 7: case is staggering. It targets bad Bunny Corol, I still
Speaker 7: not to say. I'm gonna say Corol, g Daddy Yankee
Speaker 7: and more than one hundred and fifty other artists as defendants,
Speaker 7: plus units of all three major music companies, claiming that
Speaker 7: nearly two thousand of their songs were illegal. If successful,
Speaker 7: it would mean that almost all reggaetone artists would need
Speaker 7: to pay licensing fees to use a core aspect of
Speaker 7: the genre. I don't think this lawsuit's going to be
Speaker 7: successful to you, No, especially I think it's that young,
Speaker 7: especially since now there will be dispute over this detail.
Speaker 7: By the way, we're definitely not going to get through
Speaker 7: all these, but this one's fast nat to me. We
Speaker 7: might just stay on this one for a while. Gene
Speaker 7: Simmons was saying it was in you know, when he
Speaker 7: the little controversy it blew over fairly quickly about who
Speaker 7: wrote the song Beth and he was saying didn't really
Speaker 7: write it. And Jane was making some rather ignorant comments
Speaker 7: about Peter's not a real musician because he's a drummer,
Speaker 7: so he's not technically a musician because you can't. You
Speaker 7: can't copyright. You can't trademark a beat like you can
Speaker 7: a melody or something, which actually is definitely not true.
Speaker 7: He's wrong about that. I'm sure there are very specific,
Speaker 7: very specific beats that have been copy copyright Well, that's
Speaker 7: you're talking about a bassline. But but I'm sure I
Speaker 7: can't think of a really good.
Speaker 9: A baseline and a drum No. But but how can
Speaker 9: you call a drummer not a musician.
Speaker 7: The same, right? His comment was very very ignorant, and
Speaker 7: he does know better. But but but I'm sure, I'm
Speaker 7: sure it's happened. I'm sure there have been specific beats
Speaker 7: have been copyrighted. But to but to I mean, how's
Speaker 7: this gonna going? How are you gonna You're gonna sue all?
Speaker 7: You're gonna basically sue an entire genre over over a
Speaker 7: beat that is very common a money grape, So it
Speaker 7: says here. As experts previously told Billboard, the case could
Speaker 7: have a disruptive effect on reggaetne yeah no kidding, a
Speaker 7: booming genre that's risen alongside Bad Bunny, from the clubs
Speaker 7: of Puerto Rico to the very top of the global
Speaker 7: music business. This case is jaw dropping, said Jennifer Jenkins,
Speaker 7: a Duke University law professor. Quote. If they win, this
Speaker 7: would confer a monopoly over an entire genre unquote. A
Speaker 7: judge refused to dismiss the case in twenty twenty four
Speaker 7: in following a key hearing in December. It's now primed
Speaker 7: for a major ruling on crucial questions, which will determine
Speaker 7: whether the lawsuit is dismissed or can move ahead to
Speaker 7: a jury trial. Stay tuned. I predict it's dismissed.
Speaker 9: I hope though, because that would be quite a bit
Speaker 9: of waste of money, waste of time.
Speaker 7: Yes, we'll try too, Oh yeah, we'll try to get
Speaker 7: a couple more of these and Daddy Yankees Bombshell divorce battle.
Speaker 7: I don't even remember what Daddy Yankee's big hit was.
Speaker 7: I mean, we're like the Nankees. No, no, damn no,
Speaker 7: this is Damn Yankees is not a Latin band.
Speaker 9: Oh yeah, sorry, no, Daddy Yankee, Daddy Yankees.
Speaker 7: I don't remember what the big hit was.
Speaker 9: I remember, I can't hear anything out of my riding.
Speaker 11: I know.
Speaker 7: In December twenty twenty four, Daddy Yankee again, this is
Speaker 7: from Billboard, filed for divorce from his wife of thirty years.
Speaker 7: The two have been duking it out in court ever since,
Speaker 7: not just over the marriage dissolution, but the bombshell accusations
Speaker 7: of stolen money, defamation, and racketeering. A few weeks after
Speaker 7: the divorce started, Yankee sought an injunction over accusations that
Speaker 7: and I'm gonna I'm gonna butcher this Meridies Gonzales had
Speaker 7: withdrawn tens of millions from his l cartel records his
Speaker 7: record com Then in March twenty twenty five, he foiled
Speaker 7: the lawsuit, claiming he discovered mismanagement and a defamatory campaign
Speaker 7: by Gonzalez. Though that case later settled. Daddy Yankee went
Speaker 7: nuclear in December, filing a rico lawsuit against Gonzalez and
Speaker 7: his former manager Rafie Pina or Pena, of scheming to
Speaker 7: steal songwriting royalties during a nearly decade long racketing conspiracy
Speaker 7: in which they quote systematically inappropriate misappropriated publishing income unquote.
Speaker 7: Her lawyer denied the accusations at the time, telling Billboard
Speaker 7: they were a fabrication created by Daddy Yankee to gain
Speaker 7: a tactical advantage in their divorce proceedings, but the case
Speaker 7: remains pending. Okay, this one we're gonna skip. I'm gonna
Speaker 7: we have limited time. We're gonna get one more in,
Speaker 7: but I'm gonna find I want to find one that
Speaker 7: looks like it's quick and the sex stape one will
Speaker 7: skip because it's a Saturday month. Yeah, all right, let's
Speaker 7: do this other Bad Bunny one quickly.
Speaker 9: Yes, I was gonna remention Mosaic.
Speaker 7: Yeah, let's do that. I'll tell you what. We'll share
Speaker 7: the link out to this article on social media because
Speaker 7: there are some other interesting cases, but I think we
Speaker 7: tackled the two that are the most interesting. But it's
Speaker 7: at billboard dot com. The title of the article is
Speaker 7: here are Latin Music's biggest lawsuits and legal cases, including
Speaker 7: Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee, and more So. We do love
Speaker 7: a good lawsuit in the music industry. It's always fascinating
Speaker 7: and there's always somebody issuing somebody. It's a very litigious industry.
Speaker 7: But yes, Jenny, you're going to mention Mosaic Art Collective again.
Speaker 9: My favorite place in the city. Yes, Mosaic Are Collective

Speaker 9: to pick about it.
Speaker 7: Yeah yeah, uh not a not a big deal in
Speaker 7: our household, certainly. But but if you celebrate.
Speaker 9: Up discussing current or past wrestling events.
Speaker 7: So the main event on Tough Bumps, because we have
Speaker 7: the undercard where We have various news subjects in wrestling
Speaker 7: that we cover, but the main event will be WrestleMania five,
Speaker 7: which is my favorite WrestleMania. Why why? Yeah, the main
Speaker 7: event was Macho Man Randy Savage, my favorite wrestler of

Speaker 7: my childhood and Mocho Man was my favorite, and he
Speaker 7: was in the main event of WrestleMania.
Speaker 9: I always loved Piper and I have in the Junkyard Dog,
Speaker 9: and that.
Speaker 7: That one was special to me because at that time
Speaker 7: they were still obviously you could get it on pay
Speaker 7: per view, but they also were doing closed circuit I
Speaker 7: don't know if you remember this when So, for example,
Speaker 7: the Capital Theater in Conquered or Capital or now it
Speaker 7: is the Capital Center. When I was a kid, it
Speaker 7: was called the Capital Theater. I don't know why they
Speaker 7: changed the name, but they would show they would show
Speaker 7: events on close circuit TV. So, oh wow, my friends
Speaker 7: and I went to see WrestleMania five on closed Circuit
Speaker 7: at the Capitol Theater. Oh wow, No, so that's that's
Speaker 7: a nice memory that I've attached to it. It's the
Speaker 7: one time I ever did that. Growing up, I.
Speaker 9: Watched them Saturday mornings growing up with a particular friend,
Speaker 9: This girl and I would get together and we would
Speaker 9: literally eat sour pickles and Oreo cookies, yeah, drink soda
Speaker 9: and watch Saturday Morning wrestling.
Speaker 7: Yeah.
Speaker 9: But after it went pay per view, I went bye bye.
