Teen comedies or teen gross out films, the latter not a descriptor I'm

particularly a fan of have brought us some of the greatest comedies seen on celluloid.

In nineteen ninety nine, one film brought this subgenre back to the mainstream,

and it is still relevant even today. Released in nineteen ninety nine and

directed by Paul Weeds, American Pie tells the story of five high school seniors

in their quest to lose their virginities by graduation. The pitfalls of this quest

provide us with hilarious results. This ensemble cast features the breakout performances of Jason

Biggs, Sean William Scott, Tara Reid, Chris Klein, and Mina Suvari.

Rolling out the cast is Alison Hannigan, Eddie, Kay Thomas and the

Hillo variously awkward Eugene Levy as Jim's dad. Our opening clip featured four sexually

frustrated men at the center of this film, Kevin, who comes up with

the idea of the pack, Jim, Jason Biggs, Chris ash Striker,

Chris Klein and Finch, making this infamous pack to lose their virginities by graduation.

Our next two clips provide us an introduction to these characters. First,

Kevin and his girlfriend Vicky are on their way to school in debating going to

a party that evening, and when Vicky opens a letter of college acceptance,

utters three words that scare Kevin. Then we hear the interactions between Jim and

USh Striker. Don't hear the coolness of ash Striker dealing with Jim's awkwardness us

And then we will hear from the other people that round out this high school,

such as Finch and the ever present band Quote unquote geeks. Then in

our second clip, we will be at Stiffler's party. Right off the bat,

we will hear from the loud, obnoxious, overbearing Stiffler, and then

we will hear from one of the more memorable secondary characters in this film,

the Shermanator. And finally, Jim has a very painfully awkward interaction with his

crush Nadia played by Shannon Elizabeth. Illegal channels. There's any channel that should

be illegal. It's that All Woman's channel, lifetime supply of pantios or something.

movie. It thrives on awkwardness. It makes us laugh, it makes us

cringe, it makes this film memorable and quite frank It's an emotion we all

can relate to back to our high school days. While all the characters in

this film have awkward moments, the one that symbolizes this none better is Jim

played by Jason Biggs. He takes the awkward team and takes the role to

another level. Our next clip shows this when his crush, the aforementioned Nadia,

asks him to help her study. His friends, led by Stiffler,

go to him into recording her changing in his room and broadcasting it on the

internet. Here the awkwardness when she gets there and how his father, the

aforementioned Levy, doesn't help ease the tension at all and hilariously adds to it,

me, there's gonna be an Eastern European chick naked your house. You're

not gonna do anything about that? What am I gonna do? Huh?

Broadcast over the internet? Yeah, you can do that. No, I

seen this film, you might find yourself asking if the four young men end

up losing their virginity. Well, on this show, we do not believe

in spoilers. However, our final scene indicates what happens to one of the

characters, Finch, the young man that refuses to use the restroom at school

and paid a female classmate to spread rumors about him to gain a reputation.

It falls apart at the hand of Stiffler in some laxatives, but on prom

night, Finch gets his revenge on Stiffler and it involves the vivacious Stiffler's mom

played by Jennifer Coolidge. In this scene, note the homages at play to

past coming of aged stories such as The Graduate and many others. Are you

lost, Stiff's mom? No? No, not lost, just um,

you know taking the tour? Hey, thank you for letting us have this

wonderful party, as if there was an alternative in the matter. So you're

To call this film merely a classic does not do it justice. This film

redefine the teen comedy sub genre. It brought it back from the abyss.

It launched the careers of so many individuals, and its influences still felt today.

Sayings like milf are due to this film. It had three sequels,

with the last one being released in two and twelve. It has also had

five direct to DVD spinoffs. While it didn't win any awards or get any

major critical acclaim, it is an important film, nonetheless, with a great

story, relatable characters, and what's what of late nineties early two thousand pop

hit soundtrack, This film resonates with people of all ages, social circles,

and no matter what your high school memories may be, this film is as

a man Erican as apple Pie because there is a little of all of us

in it. Due to its relatability, humor, and conjuring of memories.
