Joining us for I think his I think his third appearance on the program, but the first time here in the the news studio on Canal Street. Ricky Mapleton is here. How are you, sir? Great to be here, Great to be here, Thank you, wonderful to see you. You've got a fresh batch of tunes which were uh, which I've heard, and I love them, even though the subject is not one that I love. Ironically, that would be sports. That would be sports. I am not a sports fan. Well, but I do enjoy the songs. There's a lot of what would the word be irony perhaps, or I'm not really poking fun at sports at the same time as poking fun at sports and praising sports.

Yes, yes, it's all that they bring to the table. I feel the songs are celebratory in nature, Yes they are not, but they are humorous in nature as well. And when we did play by the Way earlier, we played one of your songs earlier in this What's what's the actual title? Do you have any Zeppelin? Do you have any Zeppelin albums? Yeah? I love that. Can you pull that mic up a little bit? Do you have any Zeppelin album We're getting used to that new set up here. Oh yeah, perfect, yeah, thank you. Yeah, I still love that song.

So tell the story of a particular moment in time. Yeah. Yeah. Selling Zeppelin albums, it's just the thing. If you have Zeppelin albums, you're sitting on fifty to one hundred bucks. There's thirty five tracks. Oh wow, I sent you what. I believe that to be the premiere. Yes, but you could be wrong. Axe Throw isn't on. There is a big oh oh, there's just plenty of throwing. You talking biking language. Yes, well that's the reason I didn't put it on. It's a little slow, oh okay, and it's a total I don't know, maybe, but it's about somebody going to an axe throwing. Alcohol and ax throwing don't mix, right, and I'm amazed that they have ax throwing in bars. That's mind blowing. Then it's even a yeah, well part of the song says it clicks off something and hits them in the head and blood everywhere.

Oh my god, it's right down there. Well, there is a lot that can go on. Let's go pickleball in theory, all right now, I'm gonna so we'll play this and uh, you know, we'll play all the ones that you sent me. I do love the but I do have a question though, and forgive my ignorance, and the song doesn't really explain it, I believe it or not. Maybe because I'm not particularly a sports fan, I don't actually know what pickleball is. Okay, I did not know either, really, all right. I don't feel quite so bad until I was walking my dog and I went to the Rock Women I think they call it.

I live kind of close to there, the elementary schools there, and it used to have four tennis courts set up there. And it's been a couple of years since I walked down there, and I went down there last summer and I'm like, what the heck is this is this what they call pickleball? And now there's eight or ten pickleballs in one area where the tennis courts used to be. Okay, So in theory, you get more bang for the buck, not as much running. And as you can see the pickleball that I brought in here, it's kind of fun.

I just started playing around with it. I got to admit yesterday, I'm sitting in my box since Christmas because I didn't want to open it up until I came here. Oh wow wow. But I should have practiced. I was practicing out out here. So that's going to be on tape. Is that gonna be a problem. No, I'm in near the couchow right now. We're yeah, we'll be okay. But what but what is it like? Why is it called pickleball? I don't know. Okay, I should have researched. Yeah, I'm just all I know. Is not enough running?

You don't have to run, okay, got uh got two bad knees. What am I to do? Bad hip orthopedic shoe. Just want to go out and have some fun, some kind of sport. Well, you don't have to run playing pickleball. And that's the exact hopefully the first course. Let's play it out sid. Did you see that when I came in A currently there's a belt for pickleball, a belt, and I want to yeah, I want to show that pickleball belt because I'm wearing it all morning.

Wow. Yeah, because what I started? But oh, you played pickleball and he said no, never. So so here's the belt okay. The belt, Oh, the belt is where you put the ball. There's got a black belt that's got some like netting in it that you shoved belt and falls into And I would just like this is they get a paddle holder to the celebration of me being able to I was worried when I got this. Yeah it was I've been trying to lose some weight, okay, and I didn't think the pickleball belt fit around my waist, but it does, it does.

So my dream was playing pickleball in the old studio. Cool, playing pickleball, right, running around that big studio. Right. Well, now we're yeah, we're in a nice smaller room now. All right, So but I'm gonna act it out. I'm gonna dict out too bad knees. What am I to do? Bad hip orthopedic shoe? Okay, so it'll be like the Macarena, but with pickleball. Yes, got very good. Yeah, yeah, okay. Radio is the theater of the mind. Why don't other sports have belts? By the way, wouldn't it be cool if, like any sport, like you just always have a ball because you always have the belt.

Sports have a belt. Oh yeah, you have a weight belt. Yeah, parallel there. You probably want to wear that belt if you're going to try and throw up six hundred pounds. But you would think tennis players would I don't think I don't think the pickleball belt is meant to give you probably probably not. No, I wouldn't. I wouldn't try it. It looks amazing, it did fit. I did get it to snap. I did. That's why I sucked it in a little bit. But so that's pickleball. I think three or four pickleballs can go into one tennis court two pickleballs.

So is it like tennis, like you play half and half, like you can split it to two different to have two games at the same time you did. The pickleball court is smaller than a tennis court by a third or a half or fourth, I'm not sure. So you get more where the where the four tennis skirts used to be now they're it's like ten or sixteen pickleball courts. See I was right, multiple games, yes, so there's a lot of games going on. And when I went there, I was watching the heads and they had a lot of let's say a former premier athletes now in there, not saying senior years, our more adult years, and they were playing it, not as much running, but they take it very seriously.

Is everyone is everyone required to have a belt? You know? I didn't see anybody with a belt, but it came with the kid two belts, four balls, I think, four paddles, and I accept it there and I said, I'm gonna be on Matt Show. I'm not going to take this out. It was where the tree is, where the tree used to be, sitting there looking at it, and yesterday I opened it up.

You should have done an unboxing video and put it on YouTube. Those are big, now what boxing videos? No, an unboxing video of you unboxing the pickleball? What if you did in reverse? I've never seen someone do that. Putting it back in it didn't go back there we go. We'll good. I tried to put it back in the box. Yeah, oh it wouldn't. But it's a beautiful box, is it? As a guy up there nicely playing pickleball palm tree? Yeah, he's rarely enjoying his pickle good. Good. It could be your next pickleball song.

I think it's gonna take a while, but I think shuffleboard and pickleball will be neck and neck in the Senior Olympics. Is that a thing? Well, pickleball? Then you know I was very serious. Now there are premier athletes playing pickleball? Are the real? ESPN four, ESPN two. I did see it, And of course, of course everybody who's playing pickleball is a knockout. Not your average pickleball player.

You look like they look like beach volleyball players. Brilliant. Come on, they should have like a classification. You gotta be over to something to play professional pickleball. Yeah, I mean everything rules. Well. I think there is an actual pickleball committee Facebook page that goes that one of the place at Rock women. I believe they have their own little society. Oh wow, oh yeah, there's a whole inner world of the pickleball what they call it, pickleball up, pickle pickleball leagues, Yes, committees bad?

Do they decide like what size the ball I want to be? You know how? That is regulated by the pickleball. There is a regulation, I believe. So do people try and cheat? Are there other balls that you can fix? I don't know if my nineteen ninety nine set is an actual Oh wait out, it felt great though the first time saying I get it. Yeah, yeah, okay, because it doesn't like spring all over the place, right, that's good? Yeah, because then you'd have to chase it. Yeah, to chase a pickleball. For Bladdy, you're talking about us.

They're a deli fa. I think pickleball deli and shuffle boarder are the shorts mandatory, mandatory. But the song the pickleball shorts that I'm wearing is the most ridicul listening I could find. Did those come so? No? No, no, this is not going but the case, but you think so? What I'm wearing today is the what I consider to be the recreational pickleball League. This is a seventeen ninety five pants from Amazon. Okay, stretch, he's just got bad. The Amazon gonna give you some money for this. I was bought it online at a These shorts haar I've had for a long time.

These are the official. I knew it was getting old because it has like a little oh the elastic band. Yeah, yeah, you're getting old because the elastic band is gaping. Yes, Oh so I did not know that was there were some pickleball shorts to wear here, and I spawned these like a week ago and I put them aside and I said, okay, I'm gonna this this that I had it all planned out in my head, but I forgot to put my head my headband. It came with a headband too. Oh really yeah, oh nineteen ninety five. Were you're going to have more fun than the kit that I got?

Yeah? I never now what is the difference between pickleball shorts and say, tennis short. I don't know. I don't know if there is actually a pickleball short. Well, you were very pacific.

In my imaginational mind, it was like pickleball shorts. It's gonna be like now the ones that you see on ESPN with the premier athletes. They're like skin tight and showing everything and stuff. A true pickleball short you want to cover up as much as you can while you're playing, right, A true pickleball person just trying to get back out there play. Some don't have to run around much. Okay, I'm outside, I'm socializing. M They're gonna find some stuff that you have hidden in your house to go out and play.

H I think there could be a little connection on pickleball too. I felt a little like there was some I don't know. My mind was scattered when I was when I made it to the pickleball court. Uh huh. There was a lot of male and females, and I felt that perhaps they were I don't know, maybe there was a they would meeting each other there to socialize at the pickleball court, so as well as playing pickleball, because there was a lot of people then it was I'd take twenty people. So it's like a swinger's thing.

Is that what you're hinting? Boy? So I don't know about Yeah, Well, depends what path of the mind you want to go down. I thought it was very nice. Sold it's a cult is what you're saying. No, no, no, no, no, no no no. I think it's the place for people to go that used to play tennis and now can't play tennis because you got bad feet, orthopedic shoe, bad hip. So they shrunk it down. I don't know who has the rights to actual pickleball, right, it's not like some giant jar. They put their pedals in and they take a different pedal home.

Oh my, this is going bad now wow? Yeah, yeah, yeah, but it was very nice to see people out playing pickleball. Yes, and on the way home, I started humming playing pickleball. Like then I caught up my friend. I got a great idea for a new project. Let's do stuff about sports. Yeah, let's make fun of it, but praise it at the same time. The friend that you worked on with us, who is it? And is it the individual who you brought the first time you were on the show. You brought someone with you know, a different person who wants to remain anonymous, who I asked to call in.

Yeah, request the song, but yes, okay, and without this individual my use You've heard music that I've done by myself. Sometimes it's questionable,

just just background tracks just to get some vocals over. Sure. On this particular project, what I'm really proud of is the fact that it's actual musical. There is some musical backbone to it, yeah, versus just crap that I'll just pop on more worried about getting a whole bunch of recipe songs out than actually worrying about how they actually are musically right, right, Okay, So that's that's why I'm really pumped about this. I'm like, I definitely want to hear this because I'm I'm like Matt, I'm not a big sports person. But if you can praise it and also make fun of it at the same time, yeah, I can. I can appreciate the comedic humor, and that's where that's where we're trying to go here with because like, I love comedic music. I'm like a big fan of like Bo Burnham.

You might might know him. He's in kind of realm, so like the sports side is needed. Yeah, but hopefully it will get some traction if I can. Oh yeah, definitely say if you want to inspire me some more, you can do one thing. Because being a bartender, beer tender anywhere, there's always people that ask me like sports stuff, play sports everything. They're asking me all these questions thinking I know stats and everything, and my only cop out is I tell them my favorite team is the Harlem Globetrotters and they usually get upset.

Stream was just more aggressive and I really, you know, being brought up on Sabbath and Aerosmith and Judas Priest and then hearing the newer stuff Halter the Bridge or I don't even know what's happening now. The stuff you were playing is just amazing. Oh okay, but that genre I just love Metallica. Yeah, yeah, so I wanted to make jump into that genre.
