Matt Connarton Unleashed: The Doldrums
Speaker 1: Oh gods, your god. So I thought you wanted to stay.
Speaker 2: It's not supply side you want in a way, she said,
Speaker 2: another day you'll ever go down me?
Speaker 3: Got side? Come, oh, I said, another go away.
Speaker 1: Some clous and stuff I think got some discot some
Speaker 1: I think untrue.
Speaker 4: So sis, oh that is so good. That is pretty girl.
Speaker 4: The band is the Doldrums and we're going to talk
Speaker 4: to those guys in just a minute. They're here with
Speaker 4: us in studio. But welcome everybody. Here we go. It
Speaker 4: is time that time again Matt Connorton Unleashed and we
Speaker 4: are live from the studios of wm NH ninety five
Speaker 4: point three FM and Glorious Manchester, New Hampshire. Of course,
Speaker 4: also streaming. If you go to Matt connorton dot com
Speaker 4: slash live you can find the show from anywhere all
Speaker 4: your live streaming options, social media links, contact info, show archives, etc.
Speaker 4: Et cetera. Today is Saturday, April nineteen, twenty twenty five,
Speaker 4: and I am not alone the best.
Speaker 5: Fast, good morning sunshine.
Speaker 4: Yes, Jenny is here in the studio with us. And
Speaker 4: uh it's gonna be eighty degrees today, I believe, which
Speaker 4: is a big change. I was just reflecting. Uh, last
Speaker 4: week when we were sitting here going wow, I can't
Speaker 4: believe it's winter again.
Speaker 5: When we lay last weekend, it was snowing.
Speaker 4: Yeah, we woke up to a winter wonderland that was
Speaker 4: just total not good. And today it's gonna be eighty degrees.
Speaker 4: So we're excited about that. Absolutely, let me get these
Speaker 4: mics up here because we've got the band The Doldrums
Speaker 4: here with us live in studio. Welcome, guys, what's going on?
Speaker 4: What's up? I love that song, pretty Girl? You know
Speaker 4: it's I really like your sound because your songs are
Speaker 4: they're very, very catchy, but also heavy, and not everyone
Speaker 4: can do catchy and heavy at the same time, you
Speaker 4: know what I mean. Yeah, so I like that a lot.
Speaker 6: Appreciate that.
Speaker 4: I like that a lot. Absolutely, here, let's do this.
Speaker 4: Let's start in the quarter here, let's go around the room.
Speaker 4: You can each uh, tell us who you are, what
Speaker 4: you do in the band.
Speaker 6: What's up.
Speaker 7: My name is Rob O'Neill. I am the lead singer
Speaker 7: and guitarist.
Speaker 8: Welcome, what's up, everybody? My name is tom Na Koja.
Speaker 8: I play bass and do backing vocals.
Speaker 4: Welcome, thank you.
Speaker 9: Hello, I'm Brendan Lacenti. I play guitar and do backup
Speaker 9: vocals as well.
Speaker 4: Very good, very good. And you, sir, hey Rob Choder,
Speaker 4: I play drums, all right, very good. Wow that's all
Speaker 4: I do. Man, you got the easy one, although well you.
Speaker 8: Do the most.
Speaker 4: You do the most work though, right, because you use
Speaker 4: all four of your limbs when you play, and you
Speaker 4: have to log the most stuff.
Speaker 10: It's a team effort, right right.
Speaker 4: That's good. That's good. Is there really do they help you?
Speaker 4: Do they help you load in and load out?
Speaker 6: Because I don't ever help most the.
Speaker 4: I was gonna say not. You know sometimes in bands,
Speaker 4: not everyone, not everyone shares that particular division of labor,
Speaker 4: you know, so wugging the equipment, we.
Speaker 10: All help each other luckily get it wrong.
Speaker 8: We do not want to do.
Speaker 4: That, right right, Yeah, that's true. Right, Oh, I understand,
Speaker 4: I understand. Absolutely. We should mention too before we go
Speaker 4: any further right off the top, and obviously we'll mention
Speaker 4: it again later in the conversation. But you guys have
Speaker 4: a show tonight for those listening live on Saturday morning
Speaker 4: at the Shafts Skiing Correct.
Speaker 7: Yes, we do headlining as Shaskiene Doors at nine.
Speaker 6: I believe eight eight doors at eight.
Speaker 10: Okay, it starts at nine.
Speaker 4: Yep, gotcha, gotcha? Who else is playing? I know Regals
Speaker 4: is up. We had them on the show. They're fantastic.
Speaker 6: Yeah, they're great.
Speaker 9: Yeah, we have to playing with them. Our friends Still Sleeping,
Speaker 9: it's their debut show tonight. Oh I'm kidding, so that'd
Speaker 9: be awesome. And then another band, Birds in Theory.
Speaker 4: Okay, okay, I don't know. I don't know Still Sleeping
Speaker 4: or Birds in Theory, but very cool, very cool. And
Speaker 4: then you guys playing out a lot, you're doing a
Speaker 4: lot of shows or what's what's kind of the live
Speaker 4: live situation?
Speaker 7: Like, I feel like we haven't been doing many shows
Speaker 7: as of recently. We've been kind of focusing on recording
Speaker 7: new music. Yeah, we got a music video coming out
Speaker 7: somewhat soon as well. Oh, we've had a lot of
Speaker 7: focus on writing and everything. But yeah, we're probably gonna
Speaker 7: try to book a lot more shows for the summer.
Speaker 4: Nice. What track is the video for that's coming?
Speaker 6: It's for Why for Why?
Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, okay, and we're gonna play that. We'll play
Speaker 4: that in a few minutes. Yeah, very cool. Is this
Speaker 4: gonna be your first video as a band, your first
Speaker 4: music video or yeah.
Speaker 6: Yeah, the full music video.
Speaker 7: Yeah, we have some like teaser videos, but this is
Speaker 7: gonna be the first full one.
Speaker 4: Oh very good. Is it a concept or is it
Speaker 4: just you guys playing live or I don't know how
Speaker 4: much you want to divulge about it.
Speaker 6: Oh no, it's it's all good.
Speaker 7: Yeah, there's some concept we have who we call kind
Speaker 7: of our fifth member of the band, Devin Perry. He
Speaker 7: does our videos and he does our photography. Okay, so
Speaker 7: he also comes up with creative ideas for for videos.
Speaker 7: So it's kind of a little bit of an abstract idea. Yeah,
Speaker 7: we got a cool place over like in the Mills
Speaker 7: that we recorded in.
Speaker 8: Oh, actually a friend of Brendan's.
Speaker 9: Yeah, Karen Jerzych Photography. She's over in over in Morgan Mills.
Speaker 4: Oh okay, Oh very cool. Good good. Yeah, it's a
Speaker 4: wicked cool spot. Yeah excellent. Is that where you guys
Speaker 4: rehearsed to We rehearse at at Rob's house. Oh nice, Yeah,
Speaker 4: a mansion, very good, very good.
Speaker 11: It's a little raised ranch and hooks it excellent?
Speaker 4: Is it? Is it kind of uh? Is it soundproof or.
Speaker 10: They're a little crazy with it.
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, do they actually do they actually complain?
Speaker 3: No?
Speaker 11: Actually, I have one neighbor that's a little odd that
Speaker 11: will just spread them witches walk in the house and
Speaker 11: come down and hangs.
Speaker 6: Out, good old Roger.
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's cool though. That's validation, right, Like to have
Speaker 4: a neighbor who wants to come and check out what
Speaker 4: you're doing, that's pretty cool.
Speaker 10: Maybe about to check up on.
Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. Now, the the tracks that we're playing today,
Speaker 4: are these from an album, from an EP or they
Speaker 4: just singles or because there's so many different ways now
Speaker 4: that artists are releasing music.
Speaker 6: Yeah, they're gonna be on an upcoming EP.
Speaker 4: Oh, so the EP is upcoming? Any idea when any
Speaker 4: kind of an ETA?
Speaker 7: So we we plan on releasing a single next Friday,
Speaker 7: and uh we we figured that, you know, may as
Speaker 7: well start plugging it here on the radio show.
Speaker 6: We haven't really talked about it much.
Speaker 7: The EP is going to be called the lunch Box EPA.
Speaker 7: And yeah, we're gonna be putting a single out. We
Speaker 7: don't have a release date quite yet for the actual
Speaker 7: EP itself. We're gonna start we're gonna start pushing that.
Speaker 7: What's the single, the single It's Gonna be Freaking Me out?
Speaker 4: Oh right, right right, okay, yes, yes I have I
Speaker 4: have a version of that are prepared that we can
Speaker 4: play on the show YEP.
Speaker 6: Version. Yeah, very cool.
Speaker 1: Yeah.
Speaker 4: When I was listening to these, like I said, you
Speaker 4: know earlier, like I said at the end of Pretty Girl,
Speaker 4: you know, your songs are heavy, but they're catchy. And
Speaker 4: I really like that because, like I said, you know,
Speaker 4: most bands they try to kind of be one or
Speaker 4: the other, you know, and and so you got I
Speaker 4: mean it sounds like, you know, really a lot of effort,
Speaker 4: Like who are the songwriters in the band? Because it's
Speaker 4: it's it sounds like you really put like you think
Speaker 4: about the craft of songwriting and it shows in your music,
Speaker 4: Like who writes the songs or do you all write together?
Speaker 6: Yeah?
Speaker 9: Yeah, all this stuff on the EP has been pretty
Speaker 9: much written by everybody at the same time.
Speaker 4: Yeah.
Speaker 6: Yeah, we have a pretty big hand in it.
Speaker 4: No, that's great, that's great.
Speaker 3: I do.
Speaker 8: I will give credit where credit is due. Rob comes
Speaker 8: up with incredible melodies right out the jump. We we
Speaker 8: we come up with a riff idea and the rest
Speaker 8: of us are jamming it out and he just sings
Speaker 8: gibberish the first time around, but he always gets an
Speaker 8: awesome melody right out the jump. So we always where
Speaker 8: we we videotape ourselves practicing. Yeah, so we can come
Speaker 8: back to that and make sure we don't lose that melody.
Speaker 1: You know.
Speaker 4: That's that's a smart thing. I was in a band.
Speaker 4: This was a long time ago. I was in a
Speaker 4: band called First Shove, and we had we had a
Speaker 4: couple of songs that we were trying to work on
Speaker 4: one day at practice and like we we found ourselves
Speaker 4: actually forgetting parts to one of them. And it was
Speaker 4: a conversation. There was a conversation about maybe we should
Speaker 4: start recording, you know, because we would tend to write
Speaker 4: at our rehearsals. It would kind of be you know,
Speaker 4: we'd practice if we had shows, but we'd also write
Speaker 4: stuff at the same time, and and uh, yeah, there
Speaker 4: was a point where we were actually forgetting things and
Speaker 4: it's like, oh, that's really bad.
Speaker 6: Yeah.
Speaker 12: Yeah, that's why we always do some sort of a video.
Speaker 8: Yeah, And we have a shared Google drive too, so
Speaker 8: we we always post up those. Every one of the
Speaker 8: songs that we've ever written has like fifteen different versions
Speaker 8: on video of the progression towards you know, the finished product.
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a really good idea. Yeah, that's really smart.
Speaker 4: It helps. Yeah, definitely. You guys want to play another song,
Speaker 4: another track? Yeah? Yeah, so what should we do next?
Speaker 4: We want to go why next?
Speaker 6: Yeah, we can do Why.
Speaker 4: Okay, that's a good one we had talked about. Now,
Speaker 4: was this the first single?
Speaker 9: Yeah, that was the first one that we released at
Speaker 9: the beginning in like February or March of twenty twenty four. Okay,
Speaker 9: the version that we're hearing now is going to sound
Speaker 9: a little different than the one that we were released.
Speaker 12: Oh really drums, oh entirely.
Speaker 10: Oh, no, credit recorded some stuff.
Speaker 4: Oh cool, okay, okay, And I'm just I'm always so
Speaker 4: curious about this kind of thing. Well, why did you
Speaker 4: decide to do that? What did they just not come
Speaker 4: out so well?
Speaker 10: The songs with Eric at Blackhearts sound.
Speaker 4: Oh Erics So his name, Yeah, his name comes up
Speaker 4: on the show almost on a weekly basis.
Speaker 8: Literally one of the coolest people on the planet.
Speaker 4: Absolutely, Eric.
Speaker 11: Yeah, but we did three songs with them, and then
Speaker 11: we're like, you know, maybe let's go back and do
Speaker 11: a couple more and then when we started doing the
Speaker 11: other three that are going to be on the EP,
Speaker 11: the drum sound was just so different, really, and it
Speaker 11: sounded so much better, and we were like, you know what,
Speaker 11: let's let's make it that way. It's all consistent. Yeah,
Speaker 11: and it just came out so much better.
Speaker 9: We learned a lesson there, which would be, if we
Speaker 9: I think we're not going to just do three songs,
Speaker 9: we might as well just do it all at once.
Speaker 9: And then that way, folks, ye to do it to
Speaker 9: day here, day here, day here. You just get a
Speaker 9: week and do it all at once.
Speaker 4: Yeah, there you go, there you go. All right, let's
Speaker 4: give this a spin. This is called Why. And the
Speaker 4: band is the Doldrums.
Speaker 3: Up.
Speaker 1: That's got.
Speaker 13: That's I'm not trying that said, I not that s
Speaker 13: T S.
Speaker 1: S T so wow wow.
Speaker 3: Wow, so.
Speaker 14: God say what?
Speaker 1: Also, O God, can.
Speaker 3: You say?
Speaker 4: I love it? That is so good? That is called Why.
Speaker 4: And by the way, that is why not just the
Speaker 4: letter why if you're wondering. The band is the Doldrums.
Speaker 4: And we've got the band the Doldrums here with us
Speaker 4: alive in studio on this Saturday morning here at w
Speaker 4: M n H. And uh yeah, I love that track.
Speaker 4: That is really good, really really good. Do you guys
Speaker 4: how many how many songs do you guys have? Like,
Speaker 4: do you have additional songs that you play live that
Speaker 4: that are not yet recorded or not yet recorded?
Speaker 8: No, there are additional songs that we do play live.
Speaker 8: There was actually, well, there was a previous release from
Speaker 8: the band before me, Tom and the drummer Rob were
Speaker 8: in the band. They had a a I think it
Speaker 8: was what a four track of five track?
Speaker 9: Yeah, we had a there was a previous iteration that
Speaker 9: were me and Rob singer Rob, and we released a
Speaker 9: four song EP with a couple of guys back in
Speaker 9: twenty twenty.
Speaker 7: Yeah, twenty twenty. Yeah, we started the band of twenty eighteen.
Speaker 7: That's before we had these new handsome gentlemen here Tom
Speaker 7: and drummer. Uh yeah, so twenty eighteen and then like
Speaker 7: we kicked out a couple of members because see not
Speaker 7: good people.
Speaker 4: Oh, and then we.
Speaker 12: Had a hiatus sound for a while.
Speaker 4: Sounds like there's a story there.
Speaker 6: Oh, there's definitely a story there with a long story.
Speaker 4: One you can tell or probably not. Probably I would
Speaker 4: I would go with probably, yeah, probably.
Speaker 15: I'm always looking for the dirt always maybe not on air, yeah,
Speaker 15: always looking for the for the dirt, but you know,
Speaker 15: off air dirt is the next best thing, yeah selfishly.
Speaker 4: Okay. By the way, so where does a name come from?
Speaker 4: The Doldrums.
Speaker 6: It's like a I came up with it.
Speaker 7: I mean like twenty eighteen when I started the bands,
Speaker 7: I like heard of the word and I was like,
Speaker 7: that would make a cool band name. It's like the
Speaker 7: the meaning of doldrums is like the part of the
Speaker 7: ocean where like boats like can't there's no wind.
Speaker 6: There's like no wind, so they kind of sink stuck
Speaker 6: in place.
Speaker 4: I didn't know that was the etymology of the term. Yeah.
Speaker 7: So it's kind of like people say like I'm in
Speaker 7: the doldrums, meaning like you know, they're almost like being
Speaker 7: like depressed, no progress yeaheah okay, which is.
Speaker 10: A bunch of sad boys.
Speaker 9: Yeah yeah, yeah, a fitting fitting name.
Speaker 6: Yeah yeah yeah.
Speaker 4: I mean, well, I don't know. The music's pretty high
Speaker 4: energy now. It's not like I didn't. I didn't know
Speaker 4: quite what to expect when I saw the name of
Speaker 4: the Doldrums. I thought it might be punk. I thought
Speaker 4: it might be like, you know, kind of more stoner metal.
Speaker 4: I don't know, how do you guys describe for people
Speaker 4: who haven't heard heard your sound, Like, how do you
Speaker 4: how do you describe it?
Speaker 12: That's really I don't think we know any difficulty.
Speaker 7: That's why it makes it like, Yeah, I at least
Speaker 7: personally have a lot of like garage rock influence. Yeah,
Speaker 7: so I kind of like try to show that in
Speaker 7: the band. I think we have some of that sound
Speaker 7: in there. Yeah.
Speaker 11: Yeah, it's really hard, but it kind of like started
Speaker 11: off as like surface supposed to be.
Speaker 10: Like when I joined the band, I was kind of
Speaker 10: metal drummer.
Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm a very heavy drummer, and they were looking
Speaker 11: for that. And I think when I joined the band,
Speaker 11: I kind of got away from the surf punk thing,
Speaker 11: and I think we just kind of meshed.
Speaker 8: Yeah, so I do think we still dip back into
Speaker 8: the surf punk surf punk roots every once in a while.
Speaker 4: But yeah, yeah, I mean I can hear that. I
Speaker 4: can hear that mix of influences, and I can actually
Speaker 4: imagine you guys doing a surf punk song, you know. Yeah, yeah,
Speaker 4: I can hear that.
Speaker 11: And I think that's why it's it's so like, you know,
Speaker 11: we have some tracks that are very heavy and then
Speaker 11: they're very melodic. Yeah, like we we kind of just
Speaker 11: thrive off each other with that.
Speaker 4: Yeah. So is there anybody in the area that you
Speaker 4: guys play a lot of shows with, you know, it
Speaker 4: kind of happens organically sometimes fans a lot of shows.
Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, definitely Geers Okay, Yeah, but I mean, honestly,
Speaker 8: we haven't played that many live shows overall. Yeah, it's
Speaker 8: it's we we We've spent a lot of time on
Speaker 8: this EP.
Speaker 16: Yeah.
Speaker 8: Yeah, going into the studio and getting these recordings.
Speaker 4: Yeah. What's interesting about you guys doing a lot of
Speaker 4: shows with the Regels is obviously they have a very
Speaker 4: different sound than you. Yeah, but but they're interesting too,
Speaker 4: and that they've got like a real like you can
Speaker 4: hear a lot of different influences in their music as well.
Speaker 4: Absolutely great and it's but yeah, they are so good.
Speaker 4: It was just the well we had them on the show.
Speaker 4: It was just the two guys came in and played live.
Speaker 4: But it was it was so good, I bet. But
Speaker 4: we saw them. We met them at the Shasking Jenny
Speaker 4: and I did, uh originally right, it was that was
Speaker 4: the first time we'd met them, right, the Shasking that night. Yeah, yeah,
Speaker 4: because Jenny's son, Jesse was playing there Jesse Coffee, and
Speaker 4: uh that was Yeah, that was the first time we'd
Speaker 4: met Regals and it was like, wow, I don't know
Speaker 4: if it was the full Oh no, wait, didn't we
Speaker 4: meet them before that at Mosaic Mosaic Arts Studio. That
Speaker 4: was the full band that was playing that night. Yeah. Yeah,
Speaker 4: but they're uh, they're really really good. What are what
Speaker 4: are kind of the long term plans as far as
Speaker 4: you guys, are you looking to tour? Like do you were?
Speaker 4: I know you haven't played a ton of shows yet,
Speaker 4: but are you looking to to kind of get on
Speaker 4: the road or what's what's really talked about touring?
Speaker 8: We are submitting for a contest with this music video
Speaker 8: that we just made, and I mean the prize being
Speaker 8: a stage at Warped Tour like playing at war So
Speaker 8: I mean fingers crossed obviously a.
Speaker 4: Little bit of a try.
Speaker 6: I believe we can do it.
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I believe you can too. That would be cool.
Speaker 4: I can imagine you guys have warped to her definitely. Yeah,
Speaker 4: you want to play the what do you want to
Speaker 4: play next? We should play another one?
Speaker 8: We should play the single out for Friday. Yeah, so
Speaker 8: this will this will be the first time anybody's hearing.
Speaker 4: So this is the uh so obviously first time on
Speaker 4: the radio. Then, so this is the world radio premiere, world.
Speaker 6: Period, world premiere.
Speaker 10: It's a banger.
Speaker 4: We love the world premieres here and this is uh so,
Speaker 4: this is freaking me out, freaking me out. Yeah, And
Speaker 4: I just got to make sure I've got the right
Speaker 4: version cut big things coming, got to make sure and
Speaker 4: uh the heck did I do with it?
Speaker 8: Oh?
Speaker 10: Maybe I didn't.
Speaker 4: Maybe I didn't download that one onto the computer. He
Speaker 4: That's okay, though, I can do that really quick. Tell
Speaker 4: us about this while I'm doing that, Like, what what
Speaker 4: should we know about this song?
Speaker 8: Freaking me out? Probably heavier than every other one of
Speaker 8: our songs.
Speaker 9: Definitely weirder, definitely also considerably weirder, kind of all over
Speaker 9: the place.
Speaker 8: But a little bit of a Latin beat in there,
Speaker 8: a little bit of a circus gem Okay, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6: It's got a little bit of everything, to be honest.
Speaker 12: Okay, definitely a strange one.
Speaker 4: Okay. And what went into the decision to make this
Speaker 4: the next single? Any any method to that or do
Speaker 4: you just really like the track.
Speaker 10: It's how it always happens.
Speaker 11: We were in the studio and I get done with
Speaker 11: my parts, and all of a sudden, they go, well, we.
Speaker 10: Got a little bit of time, you want to maybe
Speaker 10: try to lay down some drum tracks for this, And
Speaker 10: I'm like, oh, we'll see if we do. And then
Speaker 10: all of a sudden, it just became like our favorite.
Speaker 8: Every yeah, yeah, yeah, every song becomes our new favorite song.
Speaker 9: Right right, Yeah, But we're also like pushing what like
Speaker 9: the envelope of what we've been doing with each new song,
Speaker 9: Like everything's been getting weirder and crazier. We're kind of
Speaker 9: finding our sound a little more, especially with the songs
Speaker 9: that we're working on now, Like I'm starting to come
Speaker 9: into place, and so this one definitely we all were like,
Speaker 9: this rules all.
Speaker 4: Right, that's so good, all right, and this is coming
Speaker 4: out Friday. Yeah, very good, very good things coming all right,
Speaker 4: Let's give this a listen. This is the uh this
Speaker 4: is an exclusive here on WMNH World Radio Premiere. Oh
Speaker 4: Jenny's ready for Easter World. We'll have to take a
Speaker 4: picture of that later because people aren't going to know
Speaker 4: what I'm talking about. But I didn't expect that World
Speaker 4: radio premiere. This is brand new from the Doldrums. This
Speaker 4: is called Freaking Me Out.
Speaker 1: You are listening to Talumination.
Speaker 10: World Premiere.
Speaker 1: Play coming Back from the Time.
Speaker 3: All this is freaking all, this freaking me down.
Speaker 1: I got my tie car talking. I'm money the way,
Speaker 1: I just want to fee away.
Speaker 3: Call me lastly signed the head and calls him.
Speaker 1: Say they're coming back from the turn father.
Speaker 3: This is raping me sweep. I'm playing six in all
Speaker 3: and shaking me down.
Speaker 1: I got that cold on skin. I'm so so so breakless.
Speaker 1: This it's like getting up playing it on them.
Speaker 3: I'm coming cold and sucking away and breaking the shape.
Speaker 3: Then nobody comes on on on, I'm getting trying to.
Speaker 1: Crushing out, falling from space. I'm here and let's get
Speaker 1: out of this spot. They're coming back from the dead.
Speaker 3: And all this is freaking me out, coming back.
Speaker 1: From the day.
Speaker 4: Wow, that is awesome. I love it. I love love
Speaker 4: the good. I was so into it I forgot to
Speaker 4: keep an eye on when when the track was ending.
Speaker 4: So good, that's so good, thank you. That is the
Speaker 4: world radio premiere, Freaking Me Out from the dol Drums,
Speaker 4: and that's coming out this coming Friday or next Friday,
Speaker 4: the Friday comes Friday around? Okay, very good, very good?
Speaker 4: Is it just a single coming out? Or will will
Speaker 4: the video be out at the Is.
Speaker 8: That when you're doing the video just the single this
Speaker 8: is coming out coming Friday? The video we're doing is
Speaker 8: for why I want to That's right.
Speaker 4: That's right, that's for why are you gonna also do
Speaker 4: a video for Freaking Me Out? Do you think?
Speaker 3: Or?
Speaker 13: Oh?
Speaker 6: Yeah, definitely definitely, I think so.
Speaker 4: No, it deserves one?
Speaker 14: Uh?
Speaker 4: Is that? Is that one of the more challenging songs
Speaker 4: to play because you've got that middle part with the
Speaker 4: time change and that.
Speaker 8: It's interesting that one not so much in my opinion, I.
Speaker 4: Mean, what would you say?
Speaker 8: What's your It's more important to know what the drummer
Speaker 8: what's your heart is song?
Speaker 11: What's my hardest song to play? I think depending on
Speaker 11: where we are in the set lists, I think sometimes
Speaker 11: big black, big Black, Bottle of Booth.
Speaker 10: Say it, but it's hard to high energy.
Speaker 4: It's like two and a.
Speaker 10: Half minutes of like I'm just sweating.
Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, I will say Freaking Me Out was the
Speaker 11: first song that ever recorded where I did.
Speaker 4: Blast beats yet I'm like, I've never done this before.
Speaker 10: Yeah, that was that was interesting?
Speaker 4: Was it harder to that? That? That come pretty easy once.
Speaker 11: You w F and I just went for it and
Speaker 11: I was like, okay, but I've never done it before,
Speaker 11: so yeah, but it came out great, very cool, very cool.
Speaker 10: Yeah.
Speaker 4: By the way, in the chat room, let's see, I
Speaker 4: see uh Nick Nemitz says, sup dudes, Hell yeah, is
Speaker 4: that somebody? You guys? What's Nick? Hell? Yeah, I'm sorry
Speaker 4: I misread that, sup dude? Hell? Yes, okay, well, there
Speaker 4: you go. Also, Be Panard is in there and says
Speaker 4: good morning everyone, and our friend Maria Vanish. She's a
Speaker 4: big supporter of the show and all the shows. Here.
Speaker 4: Be Pinard.
Speaker 10: Yeah, do you know I think it's a bet Bernard.
Speaker 10: Oh that's my friend Brian, but.
Speaker 4: Okay, no, Be Bernard. Yeah, she's she's always in there
Speaker 4: on Saturday morning. Also, I see, uh, cheryld Krakowski is
Speaker 4: in the chat room. Who does uh Jenny's beautiful nails? Correct?
Speaker 4: Yes she does? She does.
Speaker 5: Oh, very pretty, very springy today. Yeah, nice metallic rainbow
Speaker 5: going on. Yeah, go ahead and want to give her
Speaker 5: a website a plug if you want.
Speaker 4: Oh, you don't have the.
Speaker 1: Website in front of me.
Speaker 6: Oh I'm a terrible human.
Speaker 4: Oh sorry, well, we'llcome back to it later.
Speaker 5: It is so many choices, so manny as an m
Speaker 5: A n I choices dot com.
Speaker 4: Very nice, very nice, very nice. Now, so all these
Speaker 4: these were all recorded with Eric? Is that is that correct? Yeah? Yeah,
Speaker 4: his Like I said earlier, his name comes up on
Speaker 4: the show all the time. How did how did you
Speaker 4: guys come to work with him? Or had you worked
Speaker 4: with him before the CP or Yeah?
Speaker 9: So the first in the original uh iteration back in
Speaker 9: twenty eighteen, me and Rob had gone to him when
Speaker 9: he basically just first opened Black Heart in the building
Speaker 9: that he has now, Yeah, and we did, we started
Speaker 9: recording a whole album, and then we took that little
Speaker 9: hiatus and we came back did the four songs that
Speaker 9: we actually released with him. Yeah, and then I mean,
Speaker 9: since then, it's just yeah, it's just we're always gonna
Speaker 9: go back.
Speaker 4: Yeah. I was gonna say, like, why would you even
Speaker 4: want to work with anybody else?
Speaker 5: You know.
Speaker 4: I don't get me wrong. There's a lot of great,
Speaker 4: great recording studios around and everything, and people who are
Speaker 4: really good at what they're doing. But I kind of
Speaker 4: feel like Eric is the best.
Speaker 9: I mean, Eric just get yeah, yeah, you know, he
Speaker 9: always has ideas too to add into the song and stuff.
Speaker 12: He has no fear of just jumping in and being.
Speaker 6: Yeah, let me just put this little guitar lock on.
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely, Yeah, like I said, because when
Speaker 4: we had him on the show, because I told him,
Speaker 4: you know, your name comes up constantly. So yeah, we
Speaker 4: had him on the show. I don't know, maybe six
Speaker 4: months ago, maybe longer. We should, we should get him
Speaker 4: back on. But uh, but he's busier than ever, you know. Yeah,
Speaker 4: he's doing great. And yeah, absolutely he's He's fantastic. Yeah,
Speaker 4: and and what a out to now? As far as
Speaker 4: the video for for why Why is the song you've
Speaker 4: got the video for? Is that? Are you doing that
Speaker 4: all your yourselves? Or is the video already done or
Speaker 4: are you going to film it? The filming is ed
Speaker 4: oh okay, the film is not. It just needs editing.
Speaker 7: Yeah, the film he's done, like I said, our videographer,
Speaker 7: like he had the idea for it and he just
Speaker 7: he just needs to edit it now. And we have
Speaker 7: a submission date for May third, I believe, to send
Speaker 7: it to uh the contest for you know.
Speaker 4: For the spot on Warped.
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, the Wharf tour. I think we get money.
Speaker 8: And but but well we'll release it then, I mean yeah, yeah, yeah, oh.
Speaker 4: Yeah, very cool, very cool. We should uh, I want
Speaker 4: to make sure we get we get one or two
Speaker 4: more in. Uh, let's let's play. Let's play another track.
Speaker 4: What do you guys want to play? Should we do
Speaker 4: Big Black Bottle?
Speaker 8: Oh?
Speaker 6: Yeah, we were just talking about yeah, party tracks.
Speaker 4: Not a lot of.
Speaker 9: It might have been the first song we wrote back
Speaker 9: in twenty eighteen, really as a joke, but now it's
Speaker 9: turned into I think.
Speaker 10: A lot of us and it actually has Tom mainly
Speaker 10: on b y.
Speaker 12: Yeah.
Speaker 8: After after I had joined the band, me and Rob
Speaker 8: had joined the band, they played us some of their
Speaker 8: old tracks that didn't make it onto the previous eph
Speaker 8: and they played me Big Black Bottle of Booze, and
Speaker 8: I was like, that is one of the greatest punk songs.
Speaker 8: So I forced them all to continue to play that song.
Speaker 8: Uh yeah, And we went back into the studio and.
Speaker 10: I hated playing that song like the longest time.
Speaker 8: It is so good.
Speaker 6: Yeah, it turned out it gets the crowd going for sure.
Speaker 8: Yeah, but yeah, this one mainly I'm I'm I'm mostly
Speaker 8: lead on this.
Speaker 4: Okay, vocally it was really cool. All right, sweet, let's
Speaker 4: give this a spin. This is big, big black bottle.
Speaker 4: But yeah, that is hard to second, big black bottle
Speaker 4: of booze. The band is the Doul Drums.
Speaker 3: I gotta bag fly by lah Bus. I gotta bag
Speaker 3: fly by la bus. I got a bag fly baa bus.
Speaker 3: I gotta bags. I gotta bag fly Fila bus. I
Speaker 3: got a bag black bi bus. I got a bag
Speaker 3: laugh blah blahs. I gotta bag black bottle.
Speaker 1: No one's ever gonna take it away. No, no one's
Speaker 1: ever gonna take it away. No, no what's ever gonna
Speaker 1: take it away. No, no one's even gonna take it a.
Speaker 14: White No, no.
Speaker 1: I got back fine by blah blahs.
Speaker 3: I gotta bag fly bah blah blahs. I got a
Speaker 3: bag fly by lah bus. I gotta bag black bah
Speaker 3: blah blah.
Speaker 4: No one's ever gonna take it away.
Speaker 1: No, no one's ever gonna.
Speaker 3: Take it away.
Speaker 16: No, no one's ever gonna take it away. No no
Speaker 16: one telling gonna take it away. No, no one's ever
Speaker 16: got to take it away. No, no one's ever got
Speaker 16: to take it away.
Speaker 3: No, no one tell I gotta take it don't why no, No.
Speaker 1: I gotta bag.
Speaker 3: I got a bag by the clothes. I got a
Speaker 3: big blacks. I gotta tag.
Speaker 4: That was a little bit at the end.
Speaker 17: Here ready, big black bottle of booze.
Speaker 4: Hey, I did it by the Doldrums and we've got
Speaker 4: the Doldrums here with us in studio. Yeah, that is
Speaker 4: a great track. That is really really everything you guys
Speaker 4: have is really catchy. I love you. I love that absolutely,
Speaker 4: and I can imagine too that that gets the crowd
Speaker 4: going live because that's why you can definitely sing along
Speaker 4: to you know for.
Speaker 8: Two lines.
Speaker 6: Yeah.
Speaker 7: I used to sing this song and then I was like,
Speaker 7: I need a vocal break during the set. So I
Speaker 7: was like, you know, Tom, I'm gonna have you sing this.
Speaker 4: Yeah.
Speaker 7: So yeah, it's it's nice to I just play guitar
Speaker 7: and I do a little bit of backing vocals during
Speaker 7: that track.
Speaker 8: But we usually put that one towards the middle of
Speaker 8: the set just so he can take a breather.
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that makes sense.
Speaker 12: That's not a vocal break for me, though, No, it
Speaker 12: is not.
Speaker 7: Right right, it's a vocal break for drummer over here though.
Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, you do.
Speaker 4: You sing backups live?
Speaker 11: I mean I have, but typically I just kind of
Speaker 11: focus on, you know, just carrying the beat.
Speaker 10: Yeah, you got it. We got enough vocal power. Yeah,
Speaker 10: it's really it would just be redundant.
Speaker 4: We do have.
Speaker 8: I mean there's a lot of gang vocals on a
Speaker 8: lot of our tracks.
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think that's yeah. I think that's
Speaker 4: a big part of what you guys do. That's a
Speaker 4: big part of what brings the energy to it too. Yeah.
Speaker 4: But uh yeah, that's that's really really good. What do
Speaker 4: you What else do you guys have coming up? Obviously
Speaker 4: you have the show tonight at the Shaft Skiing, and
Speaker 4: then do you have some other stuff coming up or
Speaker 4: I don't know if you're more focused on on promoting
Speaker 4: the singles or or I assume summer you're gonna be busy,
Speaker 4: right because every everybody plays a lot in the summer.
Speaker 9: It seems like, yeah, I think the plan is, well,
Speaker 9: we just to take some time to kind of dial
Speaker 9: in and get in the studio, get everything mixed, get
Speaker 9: everything mastered, figure out.
Speaker 12: The video thing, all that stuff.
Speaker 9: So we took a little bit of break from playing
Speaker 9: shows since like I don't know January or February, but
Speaker 9: I think for the summer we're gonna start accepting shows again.
Speaker 4: Yeah. Good, yeah, good good.
Speaker 10: Only serious inquiries.
Speaker 4: Yeah yeah.
Speaker 8: Yeah, hit us up.
Speaker 4: Everybody, play your show. Yeah, very cool, very cool. Uh,

Speaker 6: We were playing yeah with our good friend TJ.
Speaker 7: Rushton. It's his new band's first show. Oh so is
Speaker 7: his debut show, and we're excited about that. We heard

Speaker 4: Birds in Theory, Well, they're birds in Theory. Well, because
Speaker 4: when I hear the name, I think of that, uh
Speaker 4: you know that fake because you guys know what I'm
Speaker 4: talking about, that fake conspiracy theory that what about birds
Speaker 4: aren't real?
Speaker 9: I don't think any of us have met them yet.
Speaker 9: So we'll find out tonight. We're back on that very curious. Yeah, yeah,
Speaker 9: we'll have to. We'll have to get them on the
Speaker 9: show too.

Speaker 4: keep up with everything that you guys are doing. Where's
Speaker 4: the best place to go right now?
Speaker 8: That's an excellent question.
Speaker 12: Probably the Instagram.
Speaker 7: Yeah, we're mostly active on Instagram. Okay, we have a
Speaker 7: Brendan's girlfriends doing our social media now, so okay, shout
Speaker 7: out Haley.
Speaker 9: Just starting to get things working more consistently and less
Speaker 9: dis jointed.

Speaker 4: lot with social media especially, there's a lot to keep
Speaker 4: up with.
Speaker 6: Yeah, it's exhausting.

Speaker 11: Sometimes we show our age on social media, definitely cringe.
Speaker 12: Me and Rob think were really funny, but nobody else thinks.
Speaker 3: So.

Speaker 6: don't like.
