6:43 Speaker 4: then you guys playing out a lot, you're doing a

6:45 Speaker 4: lot of shows or what's what's kind of the live

6:49 Speaker 7: Like, I feel like we haven't been doing many shows

6:51 Speaker 7: as of recently. We've been kind of focusing on recording

6:54 Speaker 7: new music. Yeah, we got a music video coming out

6:57 Speaker 7: somewhat soon as well. Oh, we've had a lot of

7:01 Speaker 7: focus on writing and everything. But yeah, we're probably gonna

7:04 Speaker 7: try to book a lot more shows for the summer.

7:07 Speaker 4: Nice. What track is the video for that's coming?

7:44 Speaker 7: So it's kind of a little bit of an abstract idea. Yeah,

9:03 Speaker 6: Yeah, they're gonna be on an upcoming EP.

9:06 Speaker 4: Oh, so the EP is upcoming? Any idea when any

9:09 Speaker 4: kind of an ETA?

9:11 Speaker 7: So we we plan on releasing a single next Friday,

9:16 Speaker 7: and uh we we figured that, you know, may as

9:19 Speaker 7: well start plugging it here on the radio show.

9:22 Speaker 6: We haven't really talked about it much.

9:25 Speaker 7: The EP is going to be called the lunch Box EPA.

9:29 Speaker 7: And yeah, we're gonna be putting a single out. We

9:31 Speaker 7: don't have a release date quite yet for the actual

9:34 Speaker 7: EP itself. We're gonna start we're gonna start pushing that.

9:39 Speaker 7: What's the single, the single It's Gonna be Freaking Me out?

9:43 Speaker 4: Oh right, right right, okay, yes, yes I have I

9:46 Speaker 4: have a version of that are prepared that we can

9:55 Speaker 4: When I was listening to these, like I said, you

9:57 Speaker 4: know earlier, like I said at the end of Pretty Girl,

9:59 Speaker 4: you know, your songs are heavy, but they're catchy. And

10:02 Speaker 4: I really like that because, like I said, you know,

10:04 Speaker 4: most bands they try to kind of be one or

10:06 Speaker 4: the other, you know, and and so you got I

10:09 Speaker 4: mean it sounds like, you know, really a lot of effort,

10:11 Speaker 4: Like who are the songwriters in the band? Because it's

10:13 Speaker 4: it's it sounds like you really put like you think

10:16 Speaker 4: about the craft of songwriting and it shows in your music,

10:19 Speaker 4: Like who writes the songs or do you all write together?

10:22 Speaker 6: Yeah?

10:22 Speaker 9: Yeah, all this stuff on the EP has been pretty

10:26 Speaker 9: much written by everybody at the same time.

10:29 Speaker 4: Yeah.

10:30 Speaker 6: Yeah, we have a pretty big hand in it.

10:32 Speaker 4: No, that's great, that's great.

10:34 Speaker 3: I do.

10:34 Speaker 8: I will give credit where credit is due. Rob comes

10:37 Speaker 8: up with incredible melodies right out the jump. We we

10:40 Speaker 8: we come up with a riff idea and the rest

10:42 Speaker 8: of us are jamming it out and he just sings

10:45 Speaker 8: gibberish the first time around, but he always gets an

10:49 Speaker 8: awesome melody right out the jump. So we always where

10:52 Speaker 8: we we videotape ourselves practicing. Yeah, so we can come

10:55 Speaker 8: back to that and make sure we don't lose that melody.

10:57 Speaker 1: You know.

10:58 Speaker 4: That's that's a smart thing. I was in a band.

11:00 Speaker 4: This was a long time ago. I was in a

11:02 Speaker 4: band called First Shove, and we had we had a

11:04 Speaker 4: couple of songs that we were trying to work on

11:07 Speaker 4: one day at practice and like we we found ourselves

11:09 Speaker 4: actually forgetting parts to one of them. And it was

11:12 Speaker 4: a conversation. There was a conversation about maybe we should

11:14 Speaker 4: start recording, you know, because we would tend to write

11:17 Speaker 4: at our rehearsals. It would kind of be you know,

11:19 Speaker 4: we'd practice if we had shows, but we'd also write

11:21 Speaker 4: stuff at the same time, and and uh, yeah, there

11:23 Speaker 4: was a point where we were actually forgetting things and

11:25 Speaker 4: it's like, oh, that's really bad.

11:27 Speaker 6: Yeah.

11:27 Speaker 12: Yeah, that's why we always do some sort of a video.

11:31 Speaker 8: Yeah, And we have a shared Google drive too, so

11:34 Speaker 8: we we always post up those. Every one of the

11:37 Speaker 8: songs that we've ever written has like fifteen different versions

11:40 Speaker 8: on video of the progression towards you know, the finished product.

11:44 Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a really good idea. Yeah, that's really smart.

11:47 Speaker 4: It helps. Yeah, definitely. You guys want to play another song,

11:51 Speaker 4: another track? Yeah? Yeah, so what should we do next?

11:54 Speaker 4: We want to go why next?

11:55 Speaker 6: Yeah, we can do Why.

11:57 Speaker 4: Okay, that's a good one we had talked about. Now,

12:03 Speaker 9: the beginning in like February or March of twenty twenty four. Okay,

12:09 Speaker 9: the version that we're hearing now is going to sound

12:11 Speaker 9: a little different than the one that we were released.

12:13 Speaker 12: Oh really drums, oh entirely.

12:15 Speaker 10: Oh, no, credit recorded some stuff.

12:18 Speaker 4: Oh cool, okay, okay, And I'm just I'm always so

12:21 Speaker 4: curious about this kind of thing. Well, why did you

12:23 Speaker 4: decide to do that? What did they just not come

12:25 Speaker 4: out so well?

12:26 Speaker 10: The songs with Eric at Blackhearts sound.

12:29 Speaker 4: Oh Erics So his name, Yeah, his name comes up

12:32 Speaker 4: on the show almost on a weekly basis.

12:35 Speaker 8: Literally one of the coolest people on the planet.

12:37 Speaker 4: Absolutely, Eric.

12:39 Speaker 11: Yeah, but we did three songs with them, and then

12:41 Speaker 11: we're like, you know, maybe let's go back and do

12:42 Speaker 11: a couple more and then when we started doing the

12:45 Speaker 11: other three that are going to be on the EP,

12:47 Speaker 11: the drum sound was just so different, really, and it

12:50 Speaker 11: sounded so much better, and we were like, you know what,

12:52 Speaker 11: let's let's make it that way. It's all consistent. Yeah,

12:54 Speaker 11: and it just came out so much better.

12:57 Speaker 9: We learned a lesson there, which would be, if we

13:00 Speaker 9: I think we're not going to just do three songs,

13:02 Speaker 9: we might as well just do it all at once.

13:04 Speaker 9: And then that way, folks, ye to do it to

13:07 Speaker 9: day here, day here, day here. You just get a

13:09 Speaker 9: week and do it all at once.

16:52 Speaker 8: There was actually, well, there was a previous release from

16:55 Speaker 8: the band before me, Tom and the drummer Rob were

17:03 Speaker 8: was what a four track of five track?

17:05 Speaker 9: Yeah, we had a there was a previous iteration that

17:07 Speaker 9: were me and Rob singer Rob, and we released a

17:12 Speaker 9: four song EP with a couple of guys back in

17:16 Speaker 9: twenty twenty.

17:18 Speaker 7: Yeah, twenty twenty. Yeah, we started the band of twenty eighteen.

17:21 Speaker 7: That's before we had these new handsome gentlemen here Tom

17:26 Speaker 7: and drummer. Uh yeah, so twenty eighteen and then like

17:30 Speaker 7: we kicked out a couple of members because see not

17:33 Speaker 7: good people.

17:34 Speaker 4: Oh, and then we.

17:36 Speaker 12: Had a hiatus sound for a while.

17:38 Speaker 4: Sounds like there's a story there.

17:39 Speaker 6: Oh, there's definitely a story there with a long story.

17:42 Speaker 4: One you can tell or probably not. Probably I would

17:46 Speaker 4: I would go with probably, yeah, probably.

17:48 Speaker 15: I'm always looking for the dirt always maybe not on air, yeah,

17:53 Speaker 15: always looking for the for the dirt, but you know,

17:55 Speaker 15: off air dirt is the next best thing, yeah selfishly.

17:58 Speaker 4: Okay. By the way, so where does a name come from?

18:04 Speaker 6: It's like a I came up with it.

18:07 Speaker 7: I mean like twenty eighteen when I started the bands,

18:10 Speaker 7: I like heard of the word and I was like,

18:13 Speaker 7: that would make a cool band name. It's like the

18:15 Speaker 7: the meaning of doldrums is like the part of the

18:17 Speaker 7: ocean where like boats like can't there's no wind.

18:22 Speaker 6: There's like no wind, so they kind of sink stuck

18:25 Speaker 6: in place.

18:25 Speaker 4: I didn't know that was the etymology of the term. Yeah.

18:28 Speaker 7: So it's kind of like people say like I'm in

18:29 Speaker 7: the doldrums, meaning like you know, they're almost like being

18:32 Speaker 7: like depressed, no progress yeaheah okay, which is.

18:36 Speaker 10: A bunch of sad boys.

18:37 Speaker 9: Yeah yeah, yeah, a fitting fitting name.

18:41 Speaker 6: Yeah yeah yeah.

18:42 Speaker 4: I mean, well, I don't know. The music's pretty high

18:44 Speaker 4: energy now. It's not like I didn't. I didn't know

18:47 Speaker 4: quite what to expect when I saw the name of

18:49 Speaker 4: the Doldrums. I thought it might be punk. I thought

18:51 Speaker 4: it might be like, you know, kind of more stoner metal.

18:53 Speaker 4: I don't know, how do you guys describe for people

18:55 Speaker 4: who haven't heard heard your sound, Like, how do you

18:57 Speaker 4: how do you describe it?

18:58 Speaker 12: That's really I don't think we know any difficulty.

19:01 Speaker 7: That's why it makes it like, Yeah, I at least

19:04 Speaker 7: personally have a lot of like garage rock influence. Yeah,

19:08 Speaker 7: so I kind of like try to show that in

19:09 Speaker 7: the band. I think we have some of that sound

19:11 Speaker 7: in there. Yeah.

19:13 Speaker 11: Yeah, it's really hard, but it kind of like started

19:15 Speaker 11: off as like surface supposed to be.

19:17 Speaker 10: Like when I joined the band, I was kind of

19:21 Speaker 10: metal drummer.

19:23 Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm a very heavy drummer, and they were looking

19:25 Speaker 11: for that. And I think when I joined the band,

19:28 Speaker 11: I kind of got away from the surf punk thing,

19:30 Speaker 11: and I think we just kind of meshed.

19:32 Speaker 8: Yeah, so I do think we still dip back into

19:34 Speaker 8: the surf punk surf punk roots every once in a while.

19:37 Speaker 4: But yeah, yeah, I mean I can hear that. I

19:39 Speaker 4: can hear that mix of influences, and I can actually

19:42 Speaker 4: imagine you guys doing a surf punk song, you know. Yeah, yeah,

19:46 Speaker 4: I can hear that.

19:47 Speaker 11: And I think that's why it's it's so like, you know,

19:49 Speaker 11: we have some tracks that are very heavy and then

19:51 Speaker 11: they're very melodic. Yeah, like we we kind of just

19:54 Speaker 11: thrive off each other with that.

19:55 Speaker 4: Yeah. So is there anybody in the area that you

19:58 Speaker 4: guys play a lot of shows with, you know, it

20:00 Speaker 4: kind of happens organically sometimes fans a lot of shows.

20:05 Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, definitely Geers Okay, Yeah, but I mean, honestly,

20:13 Speaker 8: we haven't played that many live shows overall. Yeah, it's

20:18 Speaker 8: it's we we We've spent a lot of time on

20:20 Speaker 8: this EP.

20:21 Speaker 16: Yeah.

20:22 Speaker 8: Yeah, going into the studio and getting these recordings.

20:25 Speaker 4: Yeah. What's interesting about you guys doing a lot of

20:27 Speaker 4: shows with the Regels is obviously they have a very

20:28 Speaker 4: different sound than you. Yeah, but but they're interesting too,

20:32 Speaker 4: and that they've got like a real like you can

20:34 Speaker 4: hear a lot of different influences in their music as well.

20:36 Speaker 4: Absolutely great and it's but yeah, they are so good.

20:39 Speaker 4: It was just the well we had them on the show.

20:41 Speaker 4: It was just the two guys came in and played live.

20:44 Speaker 4: But it was it was so good, I bet. But

20:47 Speaker 4: we saw them. We met them at the Shasking Jenny

20:49 Speaker 4: and I did, uh originally right, it was that was

20:52 Speaker 4: the first time we'd met them, right, the Shasking that night. Yeah, yeah,

20:56 Speaker 4: because Jenny's son, Jesse was playing there Jesse Coffee, and

20:59 Speaker 4: uh that was Yeah, that was the first time we'd

21:01 Speaker 4: met Regals and it was like, wow, I don't know

21:03 Speaker 4: if it was the full Oh no, wait, didn't we

21:04 Speaker 4: meet them before that at Mosaic Mosaic Arts Studio. That

21:09 Speaker 4: was the full band that was playing that night. Yeah. Yeah,

21:12 Speaker 4: but they're uh, they're really really good. What are what

21:15 Speaker 4: are kind of the long term plans as far as

21:17 Speaker 4: you guys, are you looking to tour? Like do you were?

21:21 Speaker 4: I know you haven't played a ton of shows yet,

21:22 Speaker 4: but are you looking to to kind of get on

21:24 Speaker 4: the road or what's what's really talked about touring?

21:28 Speaker 8: We are submitting for a contest with this music video

21:31 Speaker 8: that we just made, and I mean the prize being

21:36 Speaker 8: a stage at Warped Tour like playing at war So

21:41 Speaker 8: I mean fingers crossed obviously a.

21:42 Speaker 4: Little bit of a try.

21:46 Speaker 6: I believe we can do it.

21:47 Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I believe you can too. That would be cool.
