Weird Al vs. AI | Matt Connarton Unleashed
Speaker 1: This is interesting because AI obviously is a subject that
Speaker 1: comes up quite a bit on the show. We talk
Speaker 1: about AI and its impact on the music industry and
Speaker 1: in entertainment and some of the other some of the other,
Speaker 1: you know, potential problems that it may raise. This is
Speaker 1: about weird Al Yankovic. By the way, I'm a weird alfan.
Speaker 1: Weird Al Yankovic abruptly pulls out of a lucrative AI
Speaker 1: ad spot, saying that he can't be the poster boy
Speaker 1: for AI and this is something new that I was
Speaker 1: not aware of, it, says. Weird Al reveals that he
Speaker 1: was offered a lucrative ad spot for productivity software, but
Speaker 1: he backed out once he realized the product involved AI.
Speaker 1: I'm not a fan of AI. Quote unquote. Again. This
Speaker 1: is from Digital Musicnews dot Com parody king. Weird Al
Speaker 1: Yankovic sat down for an interview with Syracuse dot Com
Speaker 1: ahead of his Syracuse stop on his Bigger and Weirder tour,
Speaker 1: where he revealed that he was offered a nice pile
Speaker 1: of money to appear in a commercial for productivity focused
Speaker 1: business software, but once he realized the project involved AI,
Speaker 1: he backed out. Uh quote, I'm not going to mention
Speaker 1: any names. But they told me it was for a business.
Speaker 1: It was business software that would increase productivity. I said, oh, well, yeah,
Speaker 1: sure I could do that. And then a week before
Speaker 1: we're supposed to shoot it, I find out this is AI,
Speaker 1: and I thought, oh no, I can't be the poster
Speaker 1: boy for AI. Forget it. So I felt bad about
Speaker 1: kind of pulling out at the last minute, but yeah,
Speaker 1: I'm not down with that. Unquote. The musician is very
Speaker 1: familiar with the weird al jokes that have cropped up
Speaker 1: on crowd on online sites since the rise of artificial intelligence,
Speaker 1: but he has made it clear that he is not
Speaker 1: a fan of AI. Oh the weird AI jokes? Is
Speaker 1: that what it is? Meanwhile, besides his story, Yankovic is
Speaker 1: working on a Broadway musical. All Right, we won't get
Speaker 1: into that, but I'd be curious to know. Though. Here's
Speaker 1: the thing about this, and again I respect his decision,
Speaker 1: but I would just be curious to know. When he says, well,
Speaker 1: I found out the software was AI. Is there an
Speaker 1: AI component to it? Is it literally like a chat chept? Like?
Speaker 1: What are we talking about here? Because you know AI?
Speaker 1: I mean, we can pretend it's like this brand new thing,
Speaker 1: but it's not. Lots of things have been using you know,
Speaker 1: we talk about this when we talk about how you know,
Speaker 1: these platforms are now trying to like Spotify, they're now
Speaker 1: trying to flag AI generated music, and it's like, okay, cool,
Speaker 1: but some people are gonna get caught up in the
Speaker 1: net because you know, every major recording studio with with
Speaker 1: you know, advanced software. You know, some of those programs
Speaker 1: have AI components in them. If you interacted with a
Speaker 1: chatbot online, maybe you're trying to get service from a
Speaker 1: company and you're talking to a chatbot. You know, that's
Speaker 1: been going on for at least twenty years, maybe longer.
Speaker 1: That's that's an example of AI. So it's not like
Speaker 1: it's a new thing. I'm just curious, like when when
Speaker 1: he says, well I found out the software was AI,
Speaker 1: what does that mean exactly? I would like to know
Speaker 1: more about that. Again, I'm not you know, I'm certainly
Speaker 1: not criticizing him or his decision or anything like that.
Speaker 1: I respect it, but I just I'm I would be
Speaker 1: curious to know more. And I wonder if if any
Speaker 1: of you might feel the same way about that. I
Speaker 1: just would be I just would be curious, curious to
Speaker 1: know more about that
