Bad Bunny | Matt Connarton Unleashed
Speaker 1: By the way, so you mentioned too, bad Bunny, I
Speaker 1: just won an award.
Speaker 2: Congratulations Bad Bunny. How proud are we? An American has
Speaker 2: been named the Top Latin Artist of the twenty first
Speaker 2: century at the twenty twenty five Latin Billboard of Music
Speaker 2: Awards that happened this past Thursday.
Speaker 1: Bad Bunny's an American? Wow?
Speaker 3: Well yeah, do we not know our geography?
Speaker 1: So yes?
Speaker 3: So for America has states and territories that we.
Speaker 1: All own, that's right.
Speaker 4: Part of why why we bring that up is because
Speaker 4: you know, and and it's it's been a number of
Speaker 4: weeks now, but it was there was some controversy or
Speaker 4: there still is some controversy about about Bad Bunny being
Speaker 4: selected to play the Super Bowl this year because some
Speaker 4: people like to say, wow, you know, you should have
Speaker 4: an American, and it's like, yeah, Bad Bunny is an American.
Speaker 2: We've had lots and lots of Super Bowls with artists
Speaker 2: from all around the world.
Speaker 1: Well it's not like it's a fur yeah.
Speaker 3: First anyway, because it's not true.
Speaker 4: But the point being bad he is an American because
Speaker 4: he's from Puerto Rico, and Puerto Rico is a part
Speaker 4: of the United States and I'd put something on social
Speaker 4: media when this whole controversy first erupted. It's like, you know,
Speaker 4: it's maybe it's a failure in our education system.
Speaker 3: If we don't know what America comprises.
Speaker 4: But I think a lot of it, too, is just
Speaker 4: willful ignorance supporting people's pre existing biases. And we won't
Speaker 4: get too far into that because we don't do politics
Speaker 4: on this version of the show, but just an observation.
Speaker 4: It always frustrates and disappoints me whenever I'm reminded that
Speaker 4: there is a large portion of the American population that
Speaker 4: doesn't seem to understand that Puerto Rico is a part
Speaker 4: of the United States. It's not a separate country. It
Speaker 4: is a part of the United States. Puerto Ricans and
Speaker 4: this will really annoy some people, but I'm going to
Speaker 4: say it because it literally is true.
Speaker 1: Puerto Ricans are just as American as you or me.
Speaker 3: Yes they are.
Speaker 4: They are born American citizens.
Speaker 3: Their certificates from America, American.
Speaker 1: Passport, they are born on American soil.
Speaker 4: Puerto Rico is a part of this great country, you know,
Speaker 4: And I'm sorry for the people who don't seem to
Speaker 4: understand that.
Speaker 1: But get it through your skulls and get over it.
Speaker 3: See.
Speaker 2: And one of the reasons I particularly have have followed
Speaker 2: Bad Bunny because he did a thing on w W.
Speaker 3: So awesome.
Speaker 2: Like you know, sometimes are you'll see like superstars or
Speaker 2: whatever get involved with wrestling and stuff, and then you
Speaker 2: know they make an appearance. But once in a while
Speaker 2: you see artists come in that really get into it, like, oh,
Speaker 2: who's the other one? The country singer Jelly Roll he
Speaker 2: did too, just like that Bunny. They both like took
Speaker 2: it so seriously. They did trainings and everything. And if
Speaker 2: you've never seen Bad Bunny's entrance when they had when
Speaker 2: he did the battle against Damien, my favorite entrance. It's
Speaker 2: awesome they do it's it's it's one of the best
Speaker 2: entrances to a match I think ever.
Speaker 3: I love it. The people go absolutely insane. You can
Speaker 3: feel the floor.
Speaker 2: I can't, but you'd see people posted about they could
Speaker 2: feel the floor.
Speaker 3: That was like the building was moving. It was so amazing.
Speaker 2: And just the thing about Bad Bunny too, I want
Speaker 2: to say what he said about getting this award because
Speaker 2: I think it's really awesome and.
Speaker 4: Oh, what's what's the ward again? Remind us I'm sorry.
Speaker 4: What is the award again? Remind us of So this
Speaker 4: is he.
Speaker 2: Was awarded the twenty twenty five Latin Billboard Music Awards.
Speaker 2: It's very prestigious, it's an honor, and it's you know.
Speaker 2: The ceremony was held. I don't remember exactly what forgive me.
Speaker 2: I don't remember exactly what the ceremonies. Oh, it was
Speaker 2: Thursday night. They had the ceremony Thursday night, and he
Speaker 2: had talked about like facing barriers and trying to break
Speaker 2: in into music and stuff. But he said, quote, for me,
Speaker 2: it's an honor to receive this award from your hands.
Speaker 2: I respect you and admire you so much. Every time
Speaker 2: I hear other artists speak as you did of me,
Speaker 2: it tells me that doing things from a good place
Speaker 2: and with your heart is always the best decision.
Speaker 3: He also told.
Speaker 2: Marino that quote, I know how much I have worked,
Speaker 2: and not just me, but my whole team. At the
Speaker 2: same time, I'm one hundred percent aware that any one
Speaker 2: of my colleagues could have been given this award. So
Speaker 2: he was very honored to receive it. It's you know,
Speaker 2: and he talks about how it's hard to be a
Speaker 2: Latino artist, and to really to fight to get your
Speaker 2: career going.
Speaker 4: And well to get to break into the mainstream can
Speaker 4: be really can be really challenging.
Speaker 2: But when you are doing it in Spanish, yeah, oh yeah,
Speaker 2: it's much harder.
Speaker 1: Absolutely. Yeah.
Speaker 2: The show that you guys did on retro a few
Speaker 2: weeks ago where it was artists who did their songs
Speaker 2: and other languages.
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, that was so cool on retrospect radio. Yeah,
Speaker 1: check out that episode. Yeah.
Speaker 3: I think there was a David Bowie one that was
Speaker 3: like in French.
Speaker 4: Yeah, and there was David Lee Roth who, of course,
Speaker 4: at least at least one, maybe two of the early
Speaker 4: David Lee Roth solo albums he recorded separate versions because
Speaker 4: he's fluent in Spanish. I had no idea he grew
Speaker 4: up in where he grew up in South Texas.
Speaker 1: He said Spanish was just as prevalent. I know.
Speaker 4: Another thing that will annoy some people, but get over it.
Speaker 4: Spent where he grew up Spanish was. I think it
Speaker 4: might have been al Paso. Spanish was just as prevalent
Speaker 4: as English languages.
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, kid, I did teaching people languages and the
Speaker 2: little kids, like I went overseas and I'm leeting like
Speaker 2: these little kids that are like nine years old and
Speaker 2: they speak English, Dutch and Freesian and I'm like, I'm
Speaker 2: struggling to figure out how to.
Speaker 3: Tell you thank you.
Speaker 2: So it's really cool when you see an artist who
Speaker 2: is in a genre that's harder than other genres because
Speaker 2: it is in a different language. It does make it
Speaker 2: that much harder. So it's great to see an American
Speaker 2: gainness award and with such grace. But like I said,
Speaker 2: I'm a fan of him. I've been a fan of
Speaker 2: him basically since I was introduced to him because of WWE. Yeah, yeah,
Speaker 2: you didn't see that. I highly recommend it. It's fun
Speaker 2: to watch musicians involved in WWE, especially when they take
Speaker 2: it seriously and they really go all in, like Jelly
Speaker 2: Rold did and like Bad Bunny did. So I mean,
Speaker 2: so congratulations out there to Bad Bunny. I think it's
Speaker 2: great you're playing at the super Bowl. Thank you for
Speaker 2: being a great American.
Speaker 1: Yes, love from us, Yes, Yes,
