Busta Rhymes will punch you in the face | Matt Connarton Unleashed
Speaker 1: This is from Digital musicnews dot Com, one of my
Speaker 1: favorite music industry websites if you are interested in music
Speaker 1: industry news. This is one of my go to sites
Speaker 1: that I recommend. Uh Busta Rhymes in the news. And
Speaker 1: I don't know if Buster Rhymes has released anything in
Speaker 1: a while. I remember, Uh, jeez, when did uh when did?
Speaker 1: He was early two thousands, right when he first really
Speaker 1: broke through. Maybe it was the late nineties, early two thousands.
Speaker 1: Uh wu ha remember that song Wouoha Got You All
Speaker 1: in Check? That was his first big hit. But uh, anyway,
Speaker 1: this I I had not heard anything about this. I
Speaker 1: was surprised to see this. Uh Busta Rhymes settles horrible
Speaker 1: boss lawsuit after allegedly punching his assistant. So apparently Buster
Speaker 1: Rhymes had a personal assistant. You know, people think that
Speaker 1: these music industry jobs they're so glamorous. Uh you know,
Speaker 1: they're they're you're you're You're just surrounded by by all
Speaker 1: this uh money and uh notoriety, and it's just so
Speaker 1: much fun, you know, to be a personal assistant to
Speaker 1: somebody like Buster Rhymes, that's you know, I'm sure for
Speaker 1: for many aspiring music industry person that's just you know,
Speaker 1: growing up, that was just something I want to be.
Speaker 1: I want to be the personal assistant to Buster Rhymes.
Speaker 1: That would just be so much fun. But apparently if
Speaker 1: you upset and me punches you in the face, which
Speaker 1: is different than most jobs. And again that's why I
Speaker 1: say it's not everything is as glamorous as it sounds,
Speaker 1: you know. I mean, you might be working at an
Speaker 1: Amazon warehouse and you might think it's terrible, and people
Speaker 1: who work at Amazon warehouses often complain about the conditions.
Speaker 1: But hey, at least if you uh, at least at
Speaker 1: least if you make a mistake, Jeff Bezos doesn't show
Speaker 1: up and punch you in the face. But Jeff Buster
Speaker 1: Rhymes apparently will punch you in the face if he's upset.
Speaker 1: So I don't know if, like, if you go to
Speaker 1: glassdoor dot com and you look up what's it like
Speaker 1: working for Buster Rhymes. I don't know if there's any
Speaker 1: information on there, but just be aware you might get
Speaker 1: punched in the face. According to alleged by his now
Speaker 1: former assistant, maybe that's his idea of a performance review.
Speaker 1: You know, if you get punched in the face, it
Speaker 1: means uh, you know, you gotta you gotta tighten your
Speaker 1: g up a little bit on some things. I don't know.
Speaker 1: I don't know. Let's see what this says. And again,
Speaker 1: this is from Digitalmusicnews dot com. Buster Rhymes settles a
Speaker 1: lawsuit filed by his former personal assistant, who claimed the
Speaker 1: rapper attacked and punched him in the face. Busterer Rhymes
Speaker 1: has settled. I wonder if while he's punching you, he
Speaker 1: says whoa. Buster Rhymes has settled the legal battle with
Speaker 1: his former personal assistant Dashiel or Dashiel Gables. I'm just
Speaker 1: gonna call I'm just gonna call him dash. I don't
Speaker 1: know how to pronounce this. Is that Dashiel? Is it Deshiel? Uh?
Speaker 1: Is it Dashiel? I don't know. I'm just gonna call
Speaker 1: him dash Dash is a cool name. That's probably what
Speaker 1: people call him. Okay, So he settled a long legal
Speaker 1: battle with his former personal assistant, dash Gables. That sounds
Speaker 1: kind of cool, dash Gables. I hope he does use that,
Speaker 1: who alleged that the rapper attacked and punched him in
Speaker 1: the face in a work related dispute. Rhymes had denied
Speaker 1: the allegations, filing a defamation countersuit in response that claimed
Speaker 1: Gables was extorting him. The terms of the settlement were
Speaker 1: not disclosed, as the matter was settled via private mediation.
Speaker 1: Let's see. Attorneys for both parties wrote in a letter
Speaker 1: to the judge filed this week. Quote, the parties are
Speaker 1: finalizing the settlement documentation and anticipate that it will be
Speaker 1: completed within ten days. Unquote. Ah, teamwork, all right, both
Speaker 1: sides coming together. You know that's good. The judge ordered
Speaker 1: them to file a formal motion for settlement by June one,
Speaker 1: According to Gables's original filing. In August, Busta Rhymes became
Speaker 1: enraged and assaulted him over a delayed meal and a
Speaker 1: phone call Gables took from his young daughter while on
Speaker 1: the job. Oh the horror. The fifty three year old rapper,
Speaker 1: whose real name is Trevor Smith Junior, was arrested and
Speaker 1: charged with a misdemeanor. Gables filed an assault and battery
Speaker 1: lawsuit in federal court, invoking the Federal Fair Labor Sanders
Speaker 1: Act and claiming that he was subjected to workplace abuses. Yeah,
Speaker 1: they're probably is now. I have not personally, by the way,
Speaker 1: read the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act. But I assume
Speaker 1: there is something in there about you're not allowed to
Speaker 1: punch your employees in the face, So let's see it,
Speaker 1: says here. He also claimed that he had been blackballed
Speaker 1: from the hip hop industry after the alleged incident. Unfortunately,
Speaker 1: that doesn't surprise me, it says here. Smith vehemently denied
Speaker 1: Gables's smith being. Buster Rhymes denied Gables's allegations and filed
Speaker 1: a countersuit for defamation in October. His suit asserted that
Speaker 1: Gables' claims damaged his reputation, which costs him business opportunities
Speaker 1: and income. Well, that's the thing. Do you want to
Speaker 1: do business with someone who might punch you in the
Speaker 1: face if they're upset with you? Meanwhile, Buster Rhymes was
Speaker 1: recently announced as a headliner for Hudson Yards annual Free
Speaker 1: outdoor Concerts series live concerts at the Wells Fargo Stage
Speaker 1: in New York City. Hey, look, whatever damage might have
Speaker 1: been done to the reputation of Buster Rhymes, it can't
Speaker 1: be that bad. Clearly, it's not that bad. The man
Speaker 1: has been announced as a headliner, not an opening act,
Speaker 1: not a nostalgia act, a headliner for the Hudson Yards
Speaker 1: Annual free outdoor concert series Live concerts at the Wells
Speaker 1: Fargo Stage. I mean, come on, how damaged could he be?
Speaker 1: The series kicks off on Wednesday, May thirteen, with shows
Speaker 1: taking place every Wednesday through June third from six to
Speaker 1: eight pm, with doors opening at five pm. No, he's
Speaker 1: doing great uster rhymes. All right. So that's it for
Speaker 1: that story. That's not much to it, but I just
Speaker 1: thought it was interesting
