If you haven't girl problems out for bad for you, son. I
got ninety nine problems, but change one. DJ Reckless is at the news
desk. I'm here. It's Halloween. Is it over yet? Is it
over yet? No? Man, I wish it was. I have been.
I have djayed five parties. Uh huh over four days done. I'm
hired. So you had two in one day? I did? Oh insane?
Look at you working hard? What a week? No, a week?
Yeah? Yeah, also opening the show with Justin Clancy and then Sammy
Adams. A great idea, A great idea. I did that for you.
Yeah it's true. Yes, yes, I love I love that Clancy
song. Justin Clancy song, Run from the Devil. He just released a
new one. It was probably you didn't play he just the song. He
hinted out when he was on the show. He released Friday strip, mall.
I saw it online. It has a parental advisory on it, so
I'll have to make a radio at it. It was to be honest.
Yeah, but yeah, no, what a week? Then? Oh Eric
Pilcher and the chat room says, where was Ice nine kills? Lol?
Well that's coming up, Eric, that's gonna be after your review, I
mean, not your review, Yeah, your review. Sorry, I'm a
little discombined. We don't usually have the classic film review on Tuesday, but
yes, coming up later in the hour we have Eric Pilcher's classic film review.
And today, because it is Halloween, this was Eric scide to save
it for Halloween Day. Uh. The original Halloween, directed by John Carpenter,
that is the subject of today's film, and there is a special song
that Eric asks who we play at the end of it, so we'll do
that, and then coming up in the second an hour, we've got a
great musical guest coming in The Mighty Suicide Squirrels will be in studio with us,
so really looking forward to that. And we've got DJ Reckless here.
It's kind of a bonus. I'm here, you're here, somewhat sort of
kind of Man, I'm still recovering from the week That's that's all I said.
Yeah, you've been You've been working hard, You've been working hard.
This weekend was one of those weekends where it's like you look back and you
see how hard you've worked, and I was like, damn. I did
two different parties to very different Yeah. On Saturday, I was at the
Farm for the first beginning of the night to do their costume contest. Also,
I'm never judging another costume contest. No, I felt like the most
hated person in the room. What I don't know, man, everyone wanted
you to like their costume. Yeah, man, it wash. It was
insane. Man. I went to the Farm and then I was supposed to
judge six so three's costume contests and promote the new Friday nights. I got
there super late because the farm was packed until twelve thirty. Ah. I
was like, I can't leave. You should clarify what the farm is for
people who are not from the bar in Manchester. Yeah. Yeah, because
you know there's a guy in New York City who makes a lot of claims
about what we do at the farm or on the farm. So you know,
you just want to clarify that for people. Don't give don't give that
guy any ammunition to use in his videos. Oh boy, I haven't heard
from him in a while. I'm glad he's not talking about me no more.
Man, Oh you really am. I think your name still comes up
once it was. I believe so. I believe so. And uh,
speaking of so, we're gonna make a little bit of an exception too,
speaking of people we don't talk about anymore, I'm actually going to talk about
someone we don't talk about it anymore. I guess it's okay to talk about
him because I do want to acknowledge I did hear from the People's Mayor,
glennar J Willlett, and he sent me a song. I don't know if
we'll have time to actually play it on the air because we have a very
busy show today. But he did, he did reach out to me and
uh, and I thought this was nice. So I think we can Uh,
let's see hi, it's been a long time with the help of Jay
and myself. I don't know who Jay is. A song called Come What
May is rewritten and dedicated to Matt and Jenny. The theme is depression as
winter comes around again. Hope you enjoy it. If you want, you
can play it on your show tonight. Take good care of yourself and Jenny.
Keep loving him in good times as in bad love you both. So
that was from glennar J. Willett, the People's mayor. So about this
very nice. I haven't listened to it yet. Would you like to hear?
Would you like here a little bit of it? I don't know.
The theme is depression. It's long, so it's like six minutes long.
So we're not gonna play the whole thing. American Pie by Don McLean,
absolutely not. Yeah, that's uh, well, so I'm assuming that.
I mean, he didn't say it in the message, but my assumption is
that this is sort of Glenn's American Pie. This is the glenar J.
Will Let American Pie is heard in a lot. I know. Well,
yeah, we don't really talk about him anymore because things kind of got sideways
there for a bit. But yeah, but obviously he's, uh, you
know, he's feeling nostalgic for us, and so I think we can But
what this part's acapella apparently global ah, dedicated to Matt Content. No,
that's very nice. I can't all right, that's enough. That's very nice.
Well we got to hear a little he can't do it anymore. Well,
thank you. That's a nice question, Matt Content. And I hope
this song will somehow help him. Open up a door to your heart,
to your soul, to your mind, enrid yourself up this depression. Yeah,
enjoy it's not going to come here. Me go. Oh my god,
I feel I know you don't need don't mac connage. They just stuffle
your depression. This is nice. This is what you get when you use
podcast. When she looks at me, my kid, I know the CROSI
snaks. Nobody else kids see all the secret heres inside of me and all
the craziness I hide through my depressions into my soup, and he reads me
like nobody else. Can you know what the Billboard top one the man,
Yeah, Billboard top one hundred. I'm calling up, I'm calling up America's
Got Talent that they need to get this man on the show. Ay sap
American Idol A G t yup coming soon else And I've never known before,
come one that she loves me any and that love has helped me open up
that door if I sole my heart, my knowing, it's not like I
do like how he does that, how he goes that door. Yeah,
he kind of hit he kind of you kind of hit that note there.
Not even mad actually yeah, yeah, honestly his singing has improved. I
do have to say it's improved. I just want to know what version of
garage band he used? What's going on here? There's nothing she can say,
Jenny, nothing that anyone can you and she lets me leave it and
then I mean my darkness all sure, I feel like I'm gonna walk down
for Christmas, Like, let's me and go try on loving me and podcast
come what may. It's good that my face is something else out of out
of what I've heard from him, like it's probably probably pretty good. I'm
not mad, actually really not. Yeah, yeah, like pretty good,
and that love has helped me open dropping on the cloth for sure, remixing
my body and making me love myself a little macconne, you love yourself?
A little question for you enjoy tapping. And when it seems that my dreams
have all slipped through my finger, that's a bad feeling when they just can't
be out. I turned and they there they are scrolling to the radio dial
right now, just come upon this. I'm sure they're a little puzzled,
but well, what may that counting? Can you believes that my fat is
something else? Have you never known before? People? Back before it?
Come what me? Kenny loves me and open up the door on my depression,
to leave the body, soul in mind, making me love myself myself?
Don't a little more? Come what me? Oh? She loves me,
and that thing is something that I've never known people befo, Come what
may? Canny loves and that love has helped me open up that door of
my depression. Cleep my body, my soule in my mind, making lout
myself myself that content a little more, love yourself a little more, make
you're worth very much? So you love your more? Sounded like a dog
what Me, Mac connaughton and Jenny keep loving him in good times? Let
in bed mcconnaughtan come what Me me yourself? Well, I hope you enjoyed
it. It was fun to do and very carrion because I do care about
you, Matt, content about your health, and Jen keep loving him in
good times and in bed. The song was called come What Me, a
cover song arrang rewritten by then I in dedication to Matt Conton and He's love
Jim, keep watching, listening well, logic and global, and I hope
you enjoyed it. Remember you heard it here first on the MTM Internet Karayoke
Networks. Thank you, well what well? A lot of people heard it
here first. But Glenn, if you're listening, that was very sweet.
Thank you. That was very nice. That was wow. I mean a
total surprise, I will say for Glenn singing the same thing I always used
to say about Gonzo's impression. What he lacks inaccuracy he makes up for with
enthusiasm. Matt, I just have a few questions for you after this.
Yes, how did that make you feel? What feelings did it provoke?
No? Honestly, that was very sweet. That was that? That was
very sweet. I was a little alarmed, Matt. I mean we I
mean we you know, we chuckle and you know. But but the thing
is with with Glenn, I mean, you know, anytime that we've like,
honestly like like from my point of view, and I think everybody feels
this way, you know, uh, when we when whenever we've picked on
him, it's always been with affection. Like I love Glenn R. J.
Willlett, I always have. He's a I think he's a great friend.
Things did get get a little sideways here in terms of his interactions with
the radio station, so we kind of just you know, kept our respective
distance for a long time. But no, but he's he's got a great
heart. He's he's a wonderful person. And that that that was I'm genuinely
very moved that he did that. That was very sweet. Yeah, I
like it. I mean I'm a little concerned. He said, Jenny loves
him. I think you got some competition. I think you should be worried.
I think I think he met Jenny loves me. Oh, I think
that's what he I think that's what he meant. But I don't know,
I don't know, man, somebody his notes he hit I was a little
impressed. Yes, Eric Filcher in the chat room says, has John Hopwood
signed off on the kidding with affection thing? L O L No. I
I think I think John loves him too. We all, we all love
Glenn. He's he's a he's a you know. Like I said, things
got a little weird at one point, but well more than one point over
there. I've known him a long time a lot, but he can at
some time. Yes, yes, he can be, he can be,
he can be. No, but we love him. And that was.
That was very sweet, Glenn. That was an amazing surprise. And I
do I do appreciate that that that he did that and even customized the lyrics
for me. That was that was very nice, very nice on the scale
of I mean, it's probably one of the better songs I've heard him sing.
He has gotten better. I think I think much time on his hands.
Well. Jenny made a comment too in the chat that, uh,
not as much echo, because historically Glenn puts a lot of echo on his
voice. Yeah, and uh, he seemed to show some restraint with that
one, so perhaps he's learning. I don't I just want to know,
Like I said, what what version of garage band? Yeah, I don't
know. I have no idea what you're kidding. I'm kidding, I'm poking
fun. Yeah, well you never coming at me hard right now? But
like, y oh not really. I love Glenn. Yeah that's because Melanie's
not in there yet. Give it a little bit, give it about twenty
minutes. Your nemesis is only four twenty one. Uh huh, but no,
I mean I've always found in Glenn a little interesting. But yeah,
yeah, these are the people's mayor after all, and Jenny's on the line.
Hello, I am Why is that The only thing you read from the
chat was oh, not as much echo. I also said that I loved
it, that I thought it was really kind and really sweet. He didn't
read that part. Well, not yeany he's coming for you. You've got
competition, I would be now you say not yet. No, it's a
busy it's a busy chat room. Actually didn't see those comments yet. No,
but that was that was very nice. I was not expecting that.
That was a complete surprise. No, seriously, absolutely, that was a
total surprise, and it really gave me a reason to smile today. So
thank you very much. Glenn, I really appreciate it. Yes, and
Christian, I am being nice. This isn't the worst times, man,
I got a lot worse. If we'd like. That's true. We've seen
it. I've torn people apart on this show. That's true. We know
this. I love to do it again. Nice, I would love to
do it again. All right, Jenny, thank you Bye. You know
what's funny is I actually literally went back and watched that interview where I tore
that person apart. Oh yes, yes, yes, that person's probably going
to prison for the rest of their lives, as they should. If you're
bringing weirdos think you are, ye am, yeah, as they should go
to jail. Hey, hold up, I don't know if I got up.
Oh sorry, I forgot what song that's from? But I love it.
I scratched that all the time. I'm trying to let the window.
I'm trying to think of what song that's from? Old Hey oh man,
oh God, smoke weed every day? What song is that? Snoop Dog?
I mean that's Nate Dog singing the hook. But yeah, but dude,
I can't remember. I'll look it up when you Oh, it's the
next episode by Doctor Dre because I'm actually embarrassed. I couldn't remember. So
I have a I have a thing I do with that with the hold up
a part, I will loop it and then I'll bring in what'sn't meant by
Shaggy Oh all the time? Or or if I'll do like or I do,
I do another thing with it too, because I have an edit that
it goes from the next episode into damn. Now I can't remember. We
have a call. Hi, Welcome to Matt Connordton Unleashed. Is this it's
next episode by Doctor Dre? Yes, yeah, I haven't edited. I
play up in the clubs. It's a transition track where it goes from one
song to the other, and that's I. I have a really cool thing
i'd do with that song, but I can't remember really like how I do
it. Yeah, well that's a popular song with YOUJS. People probably think
I sound so stupid right now. My dad is a fan of Doctor Dre.
I love Doctor Drey. I think we all love Doctor Yeah. I
had a few moments in between calls, and so I thought I would call
in and tell you guys that because I put it in the chat. But
I'm like, I'll just call because things have slowed down today at work.
Ah well, very good. Hold up, Oh yeah, there you go.
It is next episode by Doctor Dre from The Chronic two thousand and one.
Ah yeah, I remember when that game memorized. I had memorized there.
There's no way. This man just says, yeah, So it's from
this album at this time, this date it was released. Eric knows hip
hop probably better than anyone else in the state of Iowa. I don't.
Actually, shockingly enough, we have a large hip hip hop seeing community in
Iowa, all like one hundred thousand of you. Wow, how many people?
What's the population of Iowa? I mean we actually uh the Riza performed
the entire album Liquid Swords at the Angler Theater in Iowa City and it's sold
bow Oh no kidding, yeah, all three hundred seats kidding. Oh,
very cool, very cool. Well we're looking forward. Yeah, it's oh,
go ahead. It's actually pretty shocking the amount of people in this state
that like hip hop. Yeah. No, hip hop is I mean at
this point, you know, hip hop is everywhere. It's universal. I
was I was half kidding, but uh yeah, probably You're probably in the
top five percent of of people who really know their hip hop in the state
of Iowa. You're giving me way too much credit. Maybe maybe top seven,
top seven percent. I mean sometimes I wonder if we could count to
seven, you know as a state. Yeah, you guys have a caucus.
Caucus. You hardly know us. Sorry, that's my favorite. Yeah,
we're not going to get started on the caucus. Yeah, yeah,
no election season folk. That's right. Well, we're looking forward to your
film review. Eric on this Halloween. Yes, it was a It was
a fun one to do. Although like a problem I work to sometimes is
the film Halloween does not have a lot of dialogue in it. Yeah,
it's or it's like just tension building and everything of that nature. So but
I do believe it is the greatest flash your film ever made. Back on
the slasher films, well, it's that time of year, it is.
We got one day after Christmas, I said, back to the slasher films,
it's all right, it's all right, we got we got one more
day. We got hold on the time, is it four twenty six over
here? We don't got that long until Christmas? We got maybe like seven
hours. Okay, there's actually a slasher film where the killer is Santa Claus
Silent Night, Deathly nine. Yeah, I I remember when that came out.
I haven't seen it, but I don't. I don't watch it movies,
but I watched it once and it's it's a tough watch. Why things
that there's it's very graphic, yeah, in it, in the violence in
some other scenes it depicts. Yeah, it's tough to get through. It's
not and it's not well done that the acting just isn't that great. And
it came out at a time when you had the original, the first Friday
the thirteenth, the first Halloween, you actually had great slasher films, and
then this came out. If you were like, oh, okay, I
actually rank it up there with Slumber Party Massacre as just complete schlock. I
didn't know there was a film called there is this there's actually three slumber Party
massacres by what are you saying there? There is a new slasher film coming
out for Thanksgiving? Yeah, And strangely enough, I'm actually interested because I
keep seeing the promo for it. Yeah, and I'm like, hmm,
it wasn't hard to watch this because I had a lot of like younger actors
in it that are blew up on TikTok too, So that always infatuates me
on how these kids go from TikTok to acting like that. Ah, one
last tidbit before I go. The idea of that film actually started back in
two thousand and seven. Yeah, it was a phony trailer in the Robert
Rodriguez Quinton Tarantino Grindhouse double feature. Oh okay, I think I remember hearing
this now. I never I've never seen that either, but I directed the
trailer called Thanksgiving, Oh okay. And then he for the longest time since
then, he's tried to get it made and just could nothing ever sinked upright,
and finally the stars have a lined. Yes, I mean two other
movies were made off those phony trailers, Machete with Danny Trio and Uh in
Canada. Hobo with a Shotgun was a pony trailer with grind House and they
made that into a movie that was directed by the guys that created Dark Side
of the Ring for Vice. I like, I like the how specific and
precise that title is Hobo with a Shotgun? Really, dude, honestly,
But what really infatuates me? Oh go ahead, no, no, go
ahead, Chris, I was I was looking at like the cast of the
cast of this movie, and it's a lot of people you wouldn't think would
go together, like to have the guy that played Derek Sheppard from Gray's Anatomy,
and then you have like TikTokers like Addison Ray and stuff, and it's
like, how that's insane. Eli Ross does do a great job of doing
exactly what you said of getting actors and actresses that you would never think would
work together. I think this movie is gonna be wicked big. I just
think it's being overshadowed. It really is, is being overshadowed by like five
Nights at Freddy's and all that stuff right now because you released out of time.
I agree with you. I think it's going I think it's gonna end
up being one of the top ten grossing films of the year. I mean
one of the other top ten grossing films of the year, though, because
I would say I want to say that. But there's also been some good
movies out this year. But also there probably hasn't been ten saw the best
movie I've seen in ten years? What's the past Weekend? The Words of
the Flower Moon, what I've not heard of it. It's directed by Martin
Scorsese and stars Leonardo DiCaprio and uh Robert de Niro. And it's based off
the book of the same title. It's about I forget the I forget the
exact time frame, but the Osage have land that struck oil. But because
it wasn't fair land, the United States government said that they had to have
caretakers give them their money. So there was this scheme thought up by a
businessman in the area to how he could get all of their shares for himself.
It was literally murdering these oh Sage Indians one by one. Oh okay,
this is starting to sound familiar. I think I read about this movie.
Yeah, yep, now that makes sense. That makes sense. Yep.
Yes, it was really, really, really good and just amazing.
I have not seen Oppenheimer yet, but it would be my pick for Best
Picture. I'd like to see, oh, I easily. Yeah. I
think Oppenheimer and Barbie were the biggest two movies this year. I mean I
have, but I told everyone this. I'm like, yep, I just
got out of Killers of the Flower Moon or how the Academy Awards will screw
over Martin Scorsese for Best Picture and Best director. Yet again, these award
shows are just ridiculous, ridiculous. They are. It's ridiculous. They are
like they The thing is, is the one thing that Killers of the Flower
Moon has going for it that I even have a glimmer of hope that it'll
win, is it has some of these It has these ideals that the Academy
looks for. Right now, it's no longer about best Picture, best performance.
It's about what It's about what the people think. It's about what,
you know, what social issues does a film discuss. If a Star Wars
movie is the best picture made in the for a year, give it to
the Star Wars movie. I mean right, That's always been my philosophy.
Eric, we gotta, uh, yeah, go ahead. But they just
pigeonhole it and they just go for what public opinion is within their idea of
what makes a good film, right right, Eric, we gotta uh,
we we got to move along because we got to get to your review and
then we've got the mighty Suicide Squirrels coming in in the second hour. But
uh appreciate the call, and obviously I've already heard the review. It is
excellent. I think you continue to evolve with these and I'm really looking forward
to sharing this with everybody. And there is a special song at the end,
of course that I just heard for the first time. Really like man.
I always appreciate the kind words and Djay Reckless. It's always good talking
while you're studio. All right, very good. We're gonna work on more,

You're sticking around or you got a head out or I'm right all right?
And the Mighty Suicide Squirrels are our musical guests coming up in the second
hour, so we have plenty more to go. But here it is.
This is Eric Pilcher's a classic film review. Oh, Mariam Banish just joined
us in the chat. Hi, Mariam. Eric Pilcher's classic film review of
the original Halloween, directed by John Carpenter. Check this out. Halloween Night,
a small American town, fifteen years ago, Michael Halloween. I spent
a cheers trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him
locked up because I realized that what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely
and simply evil. I think you'll come back territory to charted. Sure the
only read the baby didn't happen all week? Okay, come on now,
Halloween Night he came home. Slasher films, without a doubt, are the
most popular of all horror films. The subgenre took root with the release of
Bob Cook's nineteen seventy four film Black Christmas. However, it was in nineteen
seventy eight where Novis director John Carpenter made the genre popular. In the flames
of its popularity still flicker like a freshly lit candle in a jacket lantern on
Halloween Night, Halloween introduces us to Michael Myers, a man that ten years
prior had brutally murdered his sister and boyfriend on Halloween night. On this night,
doctor Samuel Loomis, the late Donald Pleasance, is set to retrieve Myers
for a hearing that will hopefully keep him in an insane asylum for the rest
of his life. When Myers escapes and goes home to hadd and Field,
Illinois, where Lorie Strode, scream Queen Jamie Lee Curtis in her first starring
role, and her friends are subject to brutality and terror committed by Myers.
This film is really what kicks started the slasher film subgenre. It is also
the film that made John Carpenter a horror master. Our first two clips are
going to be from Carpenter himself. First, in a brief clip, he
explains his view on horror films, and then he talks about the premise of
Halloween, including the idea behind Michael Myers in what they were trying to capture
and his now infamous mask. As you go to a horror film or a
monster movie, a sign you know something's coming. I mean, that's why
you pay your ticket. The whole secret is when does it happen? And
how long can you keep the audience waiting for that event to happen? And
how long can you keep this mysterious character Michael Myers alive and stalking people without
ever having to do anything. And the longer that that can go on,
the more anxious the audience becomes. All suspense is is you create anxiety in
the viewer and they're upset. They want the characters to pay attention to what's
going on because they're ahead. They're always ahead of the characters. Now,
the original idea for Halloween. My job in making Halloween was to do an
exploitation horror film. Then the basic premise was given to me by my distributor
or when you blonde, he said, Let's do a movie about these babysitters
who get stocked by a killer. He figured that everybody could identify with babysittings,
so many teenagers had done it. And then a little bit later he
came up with the idea of calling it Halloween. Let's set it out Halloween.
I didn't call it Halloween. Never been used as a title before,
never been used at all. It was an underutilized holiday. So great,
and I was a young director then. I was hungry for experience, hungry
for features. I had done some work before then I said, sure,
why not. Well, when we were making the film, I thought,
Gee, it's Halloween at night and people get dressed up in masks. What
better way to have a killer not be identified. It'd be wearing a mask.
And we didn't have any money to make a mask. So so my
production designer, Tommy Lee Wallace, went up to a magic shop right here
on Hollywood Boulevard and bought a William Shatner Star Trek mask, Captain Kirk mask.
Spray painted it, cut the eye holes a little bit different, fixed
the hair, and there we go. As I remember it now, maybe
it was more, but I had about three or four days to do the
score to Halloween, basically record the whole thing. I wanted something deadly simple
and something that would just eat at you a little bit. And my father
bought me a pair of bongos when I was really young for Christmas. He
taught me how to play five four time on them. Ba da da da

da. So all I did was to good on piano and do five or
with an octave, and that that was where it came from. One scene
that I'm particularly fond of, where after Jamie makes her discovery in the house,
she backs into a corner and it's a dark corner back there, and
she's kind of terrified and hiding for a moment, and then gradually you become
aware that he is standing right behind her, and he just slowly turned the
light up and it just exposed, just exposed that mask on film, and
that was creepy that I that may be my favorite scene was an odd experience
on Halloween. It was released across the country uh in October and November of
seventy eight, two not very good reviews. Somehow it caught on and began
to develop a word of mouth. And I was off directing a TV movie
called Elvis. So by the time I'd finished that, I was invited to
New York to speak at some deal and they were screaming Halloween and I was
standing outside waiting to go in, and it was just the screams, over
and over and over again. It was music to my ears. What makes
this film so powerful and so scary despite a horrible stereotype that slasher films can't
be scary, is that us, the audience or viewer, does not fully
see Michael until a quarter of the way through the film. He stealthily moves
in between the bushes and clothing, and he's never fully visualized. His kills
are done with stealth, brutality, and no remorse. This mystery is set
up by Loomis when he is described by the doctor, we the viewer become
more terrified of him despite not fully seeing him. To me, that is
a credit to the performance of Donald Pleasance. Our next cl is an example
of this. In this scene, Loomis is describing to hadden Field's sheriff what
he saw in Michael and why he is fighting to stop him for good.
That since nineteen sixty three. What had happened? Every Kit had and Field
thinks his place is haunted, and they may be right. What is there?
Dumb still warm, and he got hungry. He just kept her right.
Could have been a skunk. Could happened. Man wouldn't do that.
This isn't nuther lappen. It happening here. She she was sitting right here.
He could have seen it through his window. Standing on alone, he
could have seen his side. Hm. He must thing me the very sentenced
to doctor. Oh I I do have to prove it seems to me you're
just plain scared. Yes, yeah, I I am. Uh. I
met him fifteen years ago. I was told there was nothing left, no
reason, no conscience, no understanding, and even the most rudimentary sense of
life or death, of good or evil, right or wrong. I met
this six year old child with this blank, pale, emotionless face and the
blackest eyes the devil's uh. I spent eight years trying to reach him,
and then another seven trying to keep him locked up, because I realized that
what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply evil. What do
we do? He's been here once tonight, I think he'll come back.
I'm gonna wait for him. I still think I should notify the radio and
television. If you do that, they'll see him on every street corner,
and they'll look for him in every house. Just tell your men to keep
their mouths shutting their eyes open. I'll check back in an hour. A
review of this film, would it be complete or do this film justice without
speaking on Jamie Lee Curtis's performance of Laurie Strode. This performance is what the
quote unquote Final Girl of horror films would be known for, the sweet girl
next door that always does right and yes is virginal. Our last scene is
an indication of this. Laurie and her friends are walking home after school.
Two of them are talking about sex and people getting into trouble. Laurie is
more preoccupied with her chemistry book. This shows the traits that make the now
classic horror film Final Girl, and it is all thanks to Jamie Lee Curtis's
performance in this film. And we have three new cheers to learn in the
morning. The game is in the afternoon. I have to get my hair
done at five and the dances of a D eight I'll be totally wiped out.
I don't think you have enough to do tomorrow. Totally as usual.
I have nothing to do. It's your own fault, and I don't feel
a bit sorry for you. Hey, Lindau Laurie, why didn't you wait
for me? We did fifteen minutes. It totally never shows. That's not
true. Here, I am, I's thrown man. That's smiling. I'm
never smiling again. Paul dragged me into the boys locker room, exploring uncharted
territory. Totally charged. Just talk. Sure, Old Jerko got caught throwing
eggs and soaping windows. His parrots rounded them. You can't come over them.
I'll call your babysitter to me. The only reason she babysits is to
have I have a place for that. I forgot my chemistry book, so
who cares? I always forget my chemistry book and my math book, and
my English book, and my let's see my French book, and well,
who needs books anyway? I don't need books. I always forget all my
books. It doesn't really matter if yeah, your books or not. Hey,
isn't that Devon Graham? I don't think so. I think he's cute.
Pay jerk speak kills? Yeah, can you take a joke. I
could use many words to describe what this film means to not just horror films,
but films in general. This film was the precursor to some of the
most notorious film villains of all time Leatherface, Jason Vorhees, Freddy Krueger,
Chucky, Pinhead, candy Man, and many many more. If not for
the success of this film, it's safe to say we would not have the
others. It's worldwide gross was over seventy million dollars. As we heard Carpenter
say earlier, this was strictly on word of mouth. This made it one
of the most successful independent films of all time. It made Jamie Lee Curtis
a star and John Carpenter into one of the greatest independent film directors of all
time. And finally, it made Michael Myers the face or the shape of
a holiday. The film spawned ten direct sequels, and shock rocker Rob Zombie,
out of his admiration of the films, did a remake and a sequel
to his remake as well. Despite the hit or miss and disjointed nature of
the film series, this does not take away from the greatness of this film.
It shocks, scares, and makes you cringe at its brutality. It
is the ultimate slasher film and is a mussy because everyone deserves one good scare.
I hope you joined me this Friday when we look at a high school
senior living life to its fullest on one glorious day off, we will take

Today's Tuesday, October thirty one, twenty twenty three. It is Halloween
and we've got a great band with us in studio. We've got the guys
from the Mighty Suicide Squirrels live in studio with us. How you doing,
guys, y A happy Halloween, Yes, Happy Halloween. Happy Halloween.
And by the way, speaking of Halloween, thank you again to our friend
Eric Pilcher for another great classic film review. And we'll have another one from
Eric on Friday. But looking forward to talking with these guys. We've got
a bunch of tunes we're gonna play, and uh uh, why don't we
start with you, sir, and just if you can each tell us who
you are and what you do in the band. How's it going, guys.
I'm Jared Palmerlow. I'm the drummer for the Mighty Suicide Squirrels. It's
a pleasure to be here, all right. I'm Trevor laes On, the
singer. I also play guitar. I write all the songs, do all
the talking. I annoy all the people here for the There he is,
I'm Kevin Bastin. I'm the bass player. There's some little singing here and
there too. Yeah, yeah, a little bit, very good. Very
good, very simple. We're as simple as you can be for a band.
Have you guys always been Has it always been the three of you for
this band? Yeah? Yeah, Me and him have always stuck together for
his lines has been music, It's been me and him. Oh so you
guys have been in a lot of bands, not a lot, just one
other one yeah, like the last eight years. Yeah, yeah, oh
okay. Yeah, this is more of a new project for us, and
it's only been going on for about a year and a half. Yeah,
a little bit, but we're pushing it. We're pushing it hard. Yeah.
I already made a bunch of music, so we're ready. Yeah,
we got a we got a bunch of tunes we're gonna play today. Really
looking forward to sharing these with everybody. By the way, so I have
to ask this right out of the gate, where does the name come from?
Uh? Started? They just started out as a joke and then we
had this really ongoing long name and then it was just like, let's just
cut it down. We'll just be Yeah, we'll just be the Squirrels and
we're ready to go with that. It just was really added nothing we didn't
expect to be doing anywhere might I was gonna say, you didn't cut it
down that much, not that much just now and talking easier to say the
squirrel right right, But yeah, it just came as a joke. We
didn't expect to be playing anything nearly as much as we are. We're playing
way more than we thought would be really yeah, yeah, yeah, so
we're very much every weekend we're out. We really tried this year here to
push ourselves and get ourselves out there, and it really showed everything just even
just being like everywhere from wester to Boston to Nashua, Connect, Rhode Island,
Maine, been all over the place. Yeah, Ohio, Ohio next
month. Yeah. Yeah, started as a joke, just trying to just
keep the music going for me and him. Yeah, And we taught him
a bunch of cover songs and then just kind of make short songs. So
it was just here we go's make a bunch of short songs and then just
rocke the simplest songs you can imagine, you know. Do the songs come
pretty easy? Yeah, They're not bad. It depends on how I feel.
For the most part, a lot of just like like my emotional like
journal coming coming to life type deal. So it's it's pretty good. Out
of them are really like positive, So that's all. You know, it's
like this all miserable, you know. I mean we do have happy and
happy. It sounds happy, but it's not. It's not. But yeah,
I don't know. If I have something to be happy about, i'd
write a happy song. There must be a happy one in there somewhere.
I mean, you're not happy about it. There's a couple, Yeah,
there's a couple of good. There's a couple of ones, but they're like
a skew and astray. Sure you know they're strange or inappropriate. Yeah,
you know, just about your lifely, your daily struggles and daily struggles in
life is what we're really hitting our songs. Besides like a few fun ones.
It's yeah, it's just all about life. Where are you guys from?
Are you from around here? Are you from here? We're from athol
Masks Okay, Yeah, we're all like branched apart. Yeah, you know,
but we practiced an athole, so we're pretty much not too far from
Atho. I know that als like an hour and twenty minutes from here.
About that. Yeah, it's not it's really not that bad. To get.
I'm just laughing because that for the name of a town or a city.
I've always thought that's such a funny sounding name. Yeah, like a
river, a river rat race, and everyone calls it rat hole, you
know. Yeah, used to call it the ratley, going to the rat
hole. That's what I've always known it. You're not really going anywhere pleasant.
There's there's nothing good there. Hey, a little better, a little
better. I mean, we do have to say we go for those listening,
we are probably at all premiere punk rock band. There you go,
you go, all right, you know, we are probably the elite of
the elite out there. You might be other than the rats in the sewer,
you might be the premiere band from there. You know, you're right.
Maybe an original band, but there's probably you know, the cover bands
probably got but an original band, but cover band. We're not here for
covers. We're here for originals. Is that a it's a city? Is
it a tower city? Is it considered a town? Say it's a town.
It's an up and coming town. It's very close to a city,
I would say almost, well probably now yeah, but close, it's very
close. Yeah, Well, all right, they got enough to do with
all like the new stuff they've put in, that's all I know. I
got more than winching in, that's for sure. Uh, Isaac Banks and
the chat room is asking the mighty Suicide Squirrels, who are your influences?
Oh? Oh A lot of It's like bat Relusion, Misfits, definitely,
Misfits, yeahs, sence, ye effects, you know, Offspring, I
definitely we've got a good Offspring sound, operational, just for the simplicity,
and same with I don't know, I feel like we relate to a lot
of bands just because we're very simple all over. A lot of it's really
three four chords. Yeah, yeah, you know, so it's very simple.
Yeah. How many songs have you guys recorded? Twenty? That's pretty
good. Yeah yeah yeah yeah, we're just like they said they really were
just released our second album October twentieth. Oh yeah, the second album just
came out. Yeah, Oh very cool. Wow, that's that's very album
modify whatever it's called nuts in your Face Yeah and the squirrels, Yeah,
that that makes sense, that's what they eat, right. Yeah? When
when when I find what's that first one called the Greasy Potato? Oh yeah
yeah yeah, yeah, you forgot I did. Yeah, I don't.
I don't know what that means, but it sounds like something. If I
looked it up on Urban Dictionary, I would find something horrifying. Maybe weasy
potato. Yeah, do that, But I'm sure if you did look it
up, Yeah, something cool, actually, something we're all missing out on.
Yeah, I don't know. Well, let's let's play a track.
Uh, what do you guys? I'll let you guys pick of the uh,
well, who's who sent them? You? So you know, you
know what you sent of the the tracks? So I don't know, let's
go Falling Apart. Falling Apart? Okay, I like, yeah, that's
probably the best one to listen to. All right, we'll give this a
spin. So this is uh the Pride of athol Mass. I'm even saying
that correctly. Yeah, say the other way I was gonna say. I'm
kind of afraid to mispronounce. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you want to
say that. I don't. I like to, you know, because I
want to be able to come back tomorrow. But no, but yeah,
I've always thought that was a funny name. All right, So let's give
this a listen. This is Falling Apart from the Mighty suicide Squirrels. We'll
uh, we'll listen to this and then we'll come back and talk with these
guys some more. Check this out. S S they start off STO they

DJ Rockless never came back. But but you guys, you guys,
we ran it with the bar down. I think he's like, I don't
want to deal with those. He's not what we were doing. He was
like last time there was someone drunk on there. We don't want to deal
with that. We have Trevor, Kevin and Jared from the band here with
us in studio. By the way, so I'm looking at your band camp
and there's another gentleman here, mikey Lemire back up vocal. Oh yeah,
he came to the studio with us. He did one song. It's on
band camp, isn't it? Yeah, the one song, isn't it right?
Yeah? Yeah, like every song, I can't help filling songs there.
But he's not there, so he's not an official member of the band.
Obviously very good. It's awesome when he's around. He's a really good
singer. He's awesome. Yeah. Yeah, he just makes this sound better.
Yeah, he doesn't. I can't do he does. He's good to
sing with, he knows the songs, he does, he does the work.
It's just it's hard to get a hold of him. He's one of
those kind of people I understand. Yeah, And where do you guys record?
Choose it? You'll be doing it. How to watch us to record
the studio with Princeton Mass with Roger. We have a call. We'll grab
this. I think somebody wants to talk to you guys. Turn down your
radio please. Oh I think they hung up. Click Hi, anybody there?
They hung That's probably that's probably the best thing that we got. That's
probably good. It's probably like Mike, it's probably like my grandma, my
sister ipe be like hello, same person, trying again. Let's see what
we get here. Hi, welcome, Hello, who's this? Like?
Oh my god, I'm sorry. Hold on, I'm trying to Okay,
here we go. Oh, Hi, who's on the one? I don't
know what? I don't know? Show my support? Thank you? Who
are who are you? You know these guys? I'm Jared and Mike Lemire's
fiance. Yeah, yeah, all right there there we go right there out
trick or treating. Well, no, not yet. We're about to be.
But my brother told me I wouldn't call, and I said, watch
me here you are here, we are there you and I'm also representing from
Athol. I'm there currently. We've heard a lot about that that place so
already today Yeah, yeah, lovely right right, I mean it's come a
long way we all have to say. That's what we all have to say.
It's only come a long way because it was a rat a rat hole
it was, yeah it was. But now Win is the worst out there,
pretty bad Winchingdon. Is that like a couple of towns grew up.
Okay, you're not missing much. There's like farms and ships. Don't even
have a grocery stuff there not anymore. Well, they don't need a grocery
surce farms right there. You Yeah, you would think you would think,
wow, yeah, we got five pizza places. You're not missing much.
It's typical town. It's funny. It's a travel town. That's the thing
though. No matter how small a town is, there will always be Yeah.
If you don't have pizza, you have what do you have? I
think has like seven of them? They have a McDonald's cafe. Yeah,
but you go to Wendy, Hey, where's Mikey. He's at work.
Do you got anything to say about Mikey? Give give him something for Mikey.
Amy. We all love Mikey. Dude. Mikey is the most amazing
person I have ever met. And he oh my god, I wish he
did have more time to be able to play with you guys more so do
we definitely no, he and he Oh my god, I love seeing you
guys perform live, especially when he's with you. It's great. He really
knows how to work the crowd. He does. Does he do more than
one song with you? Or he plays most? Okay? Yeah, he's
just the perfect element to like, you know, he's like the spice.
You're like, oh, we got Mikey tonight, there's little Razi dazzle.
If we don't and you just get us, we're gonna kill it. But
you just get us. But yeah, he just's he's very very talented at
singing. So it's like when he's with us, it's just like, oh
yeah, next level. Yeah, yeah, it just really yeah. And
I don't have to sing so much, so this sounds that much. The
less I sing, the better we sound. Oh but I don't do that,
but I sing it. I sing it all. So you know,
you don't have a choice. This is what it is, you know.
Yeah, but you know what, at least you're good on the guitar,
So that's all right. Say that. No one else is ever going to
say that. Say that. Take that, Take that You're welcome, are
you glad I called. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah right,
I'm all lubed up. That's that's for a different that's a different show.
I love it. Well, we appreciate the call. Anything else you
want to say about these guys or to these guys, or I think that
one of their biggest fans just want to say hi, real quick, go
ahead, Hey guys make up? Oh very nice, very nice. Which
is also he's got the talented coming drummer. He's up and coming drummer.
Yeah, making me proud, very good, Yeah, excellent. Well all
right, but yeah we have to head out to trigger treating anyways. But
there lots of candy kids. Oh yeah, Amy, all right, thank
you for the call. Amy, be safe, no problem, all right,
all right, very nice, nice one. The family supports. That's
awesome. Yeah yeah. So I started to ask about where you guys record
because everything sounds really good. So wa trees that were in Princeton, mass
Okay? Uh engineers Roger Lavalley excellent guy, does great work. Yeah yeah,
prices are good, very fair. Yeah, it's nice. It's like
you're just basically going into someone's house. It's kind of like it's just like
a studio. Apartment okay, yeah, right behind the antique shop. Yeah.
It's nice though. Yeah, he's got a ton of equipment, he's
got everything you can eat. You don't really even have to bring anything if
you didn't want to show up and play. A very nice place, really
good pizza place right up the street. I will say. Yeah, Now,
how did you get connected with him? Working with him? How did
that come about? Honestly? Just Google recording there. Yeah, we know
a couple of bands we know also, I believe went there. Yeah,
Michael Kay in the morning after. I don't know if anybody's ever heard of
them, Yeah, out of Western and then Lenny Lashley did some stuff there
too. You know, a couple of people. That's all I can think
of off the top of my head. Yeah. But yeah, it's worked
out really well. It's very easy going, very fair price. Yeah,
very good guys, very easy going. Yeah, and he obviously understands what
you guys are. Yeah, you just a general idea, even if you're
not sure, you just be like, we kind of want to sound like
this band, or we want to kind of sound like this band. Yeah,
found that and he'll he'll get you there. Yeah, you know,
yeah, because it was so often a you know, a recording engineer,
it kind of becomes like a de facto producer too. You know, in
a way you kind of gotta especially if you're kind of just like throwing the
music at him, You got to have someone who's kind of like, we
got to build it. You need someone to build the music for you if
you haven't like fully constructed it. It's a good way of thinking about he
did everything, He recorded it, he mixed, he mastered it. Yeah,
pretty much everything was one song album, one one one day. Yeah.
Our first album as one studio take yeahs by time we done it was
fully mastered. Yeah. Wow that's fast. Yeah. But we don't want
yeah experience. We don't want to be like overdubbed and sound like something that
we're not. Yeah. We want our music to sound like us when we
play. Yeah. Yeah we're not. We don't studio. We don't you
know, Yeah, we're what we are. Yeah. Yeah, we're just
human. Simple. I don't know if you're human. We're just simple.
Yeah. And the studio is harder for us, I think because we're not
really a studio band. We're just we're more of a live band. We
need the energy or for the fun and each other. We just go for
it. We have a blast. We're just here for the entertainment. We
don't necessarily play perfect, you know, but we just have fun and that's
what we're there for instead of like trying to nail every single No, that's
definitely not happening. You know, there's reasons. But you can have fun
and joke with each other with it's that's all. Yeah, we get we
get the people going and engaged in the show and have Usually we have more
crowd engagement than most, you know, And that's what we're there for.
It's what I'm there for. There for the fun. Let's just have fun.
Yeah. Now, when you record, do you got do you go
in and play live together? We play all together. Yeah, we go
in and usually what we do before we go record, we'll go to Jared's
house and we'll practice for a month without singing any works. Oh yeah,
Yeah, we have a silent practice because there. Yeah, you just play
the music first and then then you go to the studio with bang them out
one or two takes. Yeah, right, it feels really good. Yeah.
This time we had Mikey saying in a separate booth in a different room
and that went really well. Yeah, that helped. It's if you get
on the vocals, it's key because half the time, after a while,
you kind of tune out from the music and your you're more focused on the
words of of what's going on. He focused on a couple of words of
all right, now I should make the change right here. That's why I'm
changing. And when you take that out, you're kind of like you're a
lost because, yeah, you're like, this part's happened. I was expecting
this or I was expecting that right now. You guys, uh, prior
to this album, you've recorded other things. Have you recorded everything? Uh?
At that the same studio. Everything's been done with the same studio,
the same engineer for the Squirrels. Yeah, the same person, same studio,
same place. Okay, cool, Like, yeah, he's good.
He's right near us, so there's no reason to go somewhere else. Although
now they say that they are making a place, and I think Roger is
going to be moving there and wist there, so we'll be doing it like
in his backyard, like in a barn or something at the barn in his
backyard, so you know, it makes more sense for him. You can
just do right at home, so that'll be cool. But well we'll still
be going to the same person. A lot of a lot of bands in
that area too, in Worcester, so that makes sense. Yeah, yeah,
well exactly. Yeah, you got to go where the music is.
Yeah. Absolutely, he's in a decent place to get to everybody. But
it's not like it's easy to get to everybody. By the way, the
Prodigal Son has returned. DJ Reckless is here back. I got locked out?
You did? Yeah? I didn't give you the code? How'd you
get in? It was somebody else coming in? No. I looked at
my messages and found the code that was spent to me like months ago.
Okay, there you go, there you go. Yeah, I was checking
my phone in case you had gotten locked out. I was like, I
wonder if he messaged me, but I don't don't know why I didn't think
too. But well, we were worried that because I heard you ran into
the band. Did scaredy off until them at my stomping grounds? Yes,
yes, at the six O three, the Good All six, Yes,
yes, indeed. Well I think we should play another track? What should
we uh? What should we hear? Next, gentlemen, I kind of
feel like listening to my baby. Let's do it. But you gotta just
blur out that one where this one's a little bloozy. Well he sent me
a clean version, Yes, the one, the one, oh, the
one we talked about earlier. Yeah, yeah, it'll be all right.
It's in. Yeah, it's in the lyrics. I'm not I'm not too
worried. So yeah, he's not worried. We're not worried. I mean,
if if for some reason I'm suddenly worried, I can always hit the
delay. But I don't. I don't think. I don't think it'll be
a problem. I don't think it'll be a problem. I don't either.
All right, so let's check this out. This is my baby, and
this is the mighty Suicide squirrels. They are live with us here on w
M N H ninety five point three f M by my baby. You love
me, Yes, tell me the God she said, you see the latest
Succa. Yeah you don't money anymore? Ah my haw up me I mean
nothing interest and hummies and no man not Molly caught you down to go man
and dook to me, fluck that door. That boy, I can't take
you no more. Now I've got I'm gonna house that covering inside God none,
everything rolled me. You have a crime, my man of my big
honey. What no man, my mother honey. But take it all back
out the caroll you you have my baby, don't love me, you ain't
springing me down. And this gig ud lady d you gotta doll me right
out of this town. Go have money, money, money, new man.
Now I'm out from Welcome you nice. That is my baby by the
Mighty Suicide Squirrels. And we've got the guys from the band here in studio
with us. Jay Reckless is here as well at the news desk. I'm
back, yes, yes, And if you have any questions or anything at
all, feedback or anything for these guys, the studio line is open six
oh three two five oh six oh seven, six oh three two five oh
six oh seven. You can also text me at six one seven nine one
seven four four seven six. I'm on social media at Matt Connorton. You
can email me Matt at Matt connorton dot com, and of course you can
interact end Opine in the Facebook live chat. But the best thing to do
so that we can hear and enjoy your dulcet tones is give us a call
at six o three two five oh six oh seven. And you guys are
getting some love in the Facebook live chat Adam Jocelyn from the band Abel Blood.
I don't know if you know. Yeah, we're playing with them soon.
Oh very good. Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, we're playing with
them in December the seventh or something. He also at Ralph he also some
bake goods, So just be paying if you guys go to Rouse, there's
gonna be bake goods brought to you by Adam. Oh very nice, nice
ye he he. He made post saying who do I got to bake for?
We answered the call. There we go. The squirrels will be looking
forward to some bake goods by Adam. Definitely all right. Sometimes, you
know, we we make a lot of things happen. We don't even don't
even mean to. If you just manifest make some shows just just work for
people to be like, oh we want to play here, we want to
play here, and it's like, do will make it happen. We'll just
do it and then here we go. Let's just let's just send it.
Excellent we'll be in wester on Friday night at the Raven. We're going to
be at the Raven. Yeah, yeah, we don't we don't play up
here too much of Manchester. We don't know too many venues or places,
but we'd love to. Yeah, I love to go. Yeah, if
anyone knows, help us out a lot of good places. Yeah, yeah,
he says. Adam said, Uh, squirrels are awesome, so he's
yeah, he's digging, diging. Yeah, it's gonna be a good show.
We got a bunch of our that's like all our friends, a bunch
of friends. Yeah, so that's gonna be cool. Excellent, that's gonna
be cool. And for and our friend Ronda Favero from California. She was
saying, let me back up to that. Whoa listen to that kick ass
riff. Oh yeah I like that too. Yeah absolutely. Jenny says,
baking that's my language. Oh yeah, yeah yeah. Sometimes that's all you
need a little warmth and you get to show, you know, they go,
I'll take some brownies or some banana bread. Adam says, they are
getting muffins. Oh all right, I like I'll take some muffins. Yeah
yeah, yeah, but I'm just happy. Yeah, that's more than we
normally get for shows. Let's go. You gotta be hungry. Oh,
I'm gonna be dipping them in soy sauce at ralph Really we come downstairs,
Jared and I from Ralph's one night. This kid's downstairs the bar dipping hot
dogs and barbecue sauce and soy sauce and eating them. And that's awful.
Why would you do that? We were in a moment, yeah, he
was, Oh god, we're here for the moments. We're here at a
party. Oh boy, well that's yeah, Alex. The saltis Oh yeah,
Alex. Yeah, Alex, I'm sorry, Is that just say I
don't even know my son? Yes, he says, Hi Trevor from your
son? Yeah yeah, my son. Yeah yeah, trading tombstone like them?
Yeah yeah yeah, I'm gonna see them Saturday at Swarmy Fest, I
believe. Yeah. Yeah, that's a big thing going on. Hell yeah,
absolutely, yeah, they're They're one of my favorites from around here.
I love Alex. Alex is good. Yeah, yeah, there are people
my son. Yeah, No, where's my banana? Alex? Oh yeah,
yeah, the banana. You're lucky. The banana's not here, Alex.
He's listening. I know he's listening. What does everybody give you guys
food? What do you mean? No, No, it's not this big
ball banana. Yeah, okay, yeah, that's my friend. We had
we had to sign a binding contract not to touch the banana anymore. Sure.
Sure, well that's uh, that's good. Considered it broken? Yeah,
yeah, help or So we had a good Inflavle party the other day
with him. It was good. It was good. And why is how
did he become your son? It was just kind of like a joke at
first, but there was just like I forget where, but like I talk.
I ended up talking to Alex a lot. I'm pretty sure it was.
And then it was just like I'm older than him, so he called
me like his some one day was like, well i'm old in you,
I can't be your son. So I was like, you gotta be like
my son now. So now he's my son. Yeah yeah, And it
works out good because like sometimes we'll talk a lot and then it's like we'll
go a very long time and then we don't talk. So it's like a
dream relationship with you. You know, I remember, I'll remember his birthday
next year, promising that, so we'll see about that. You don't have
to pay for him to go to college or anything. I don't have to
do anything. I think he's past college. Okay, yeah, yeah,
he's older now. You know, Mom did good, Thank you mom.
Yeah, you know, this is what we're doing. He's following, following
my steps. You know. He might be in the studio the radio station
soon here. Yeah, ninety is going to be here soon. Maybe,
he said he was in the talk, so yeah, I hope. So
what better to see to see to get the young the young buck? You
know right right, you've you've paid, You've paid the way for him to
write right. I made it easier for him to get here with my steps
through the snow. You know, I broke down the bank and that's right,
that's boy, he says. I love you guys. Yeah. We
always have good fun. Yeah, yeah, it's been good. We've only
really have only hang hung out with them a few times. But he's like
one of those few people that like when you meet him, yeah, it
just clicks and it works, and I still keep in touch. I've been
talking to him all the time. I was talking to him earlier yesterday.
Not a lot about this even just being on here. Yeah, because he's
from here too, so it's like, yeah, yeah, you had to
hit up the people who Yeah, the one time we played New Hampshire,
we played with him. Oh yeah, okay, oh yeah Hampshire. Get
us back. Where was that at the National Garden? Oh okay, yep,
which I guess it is no longer playing music really, I feel like,
play the last show there. I guess. Oh there's one spot down
there that's doing live music, Like no, sure, yeah, I'm not
sure. They've gotta be everywhere. You just got to know. Oh yeah
yeah. We just played at the top Shelf with Andy Ryan. Yeah,
right down the street, raged the stitches, yeah, and out of the
basement, no kidding, yeah, the base Yeah, I guess we're ran
late. The old guys came down started screaming at it. We went yeah,
yeah, we had a big party. It was so much I've seen
those parties man, and I'm like, wow, yeah, yeah, we're
supposed to be done by That was like Elaven, the guy come downstairs screaming
at us. What do you want? I mean, We're everyone's having so
much fun that the night was so good I remember when Alehouse was right next
to there. Oh man, it was ruthless times. Ruthless times. Man.
Yeah, I don't know, especially on the weekend. It's just like
you need some tattoos. Go see, yeah, you need tattoos. I
don't know anymore. Man, we're going everybody, So what happened when the
when the guy came down and started what was he like, just an upstairs
neighbor, he owns the place. Oh, I'm not too sure, but
I'm pretty sure that what Yes, ten o'clock curfew and it went by,
but it ends define everyone to stop. We were there, we smoothed it
over. Yeah. Yeah, I came running. I came running downstairs and
I was like, guys, guys, we got to stop. This old
guy is gonna want to shut down the next day and then it's good to
go next next day. And Andy said, he was like, I ran
tight ship. I made sure that that went down ten o'clock. No,
nothing, nothing past it. Yeah, which you gotta do that. You
know, you got to have the respect of the course. You always got
to have respect for where you're playing. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, well
we should play another song. Let's do it. What happened we played yet,
what do you guys want to Oh we got happy at home. Let's
play some happy happy Yeah. Now you were saying, now, is this
actually a happy song because you were saying earlier. Rep. No, you
can tell me, but yeah, it sounds good all right here it is.
This is called happy from the Mighty Suicide Squirrels. I can't remember the
last time I was happy at see so long ago. I'm struggling. Then
I'm over loading. I feel like I'm minded to growl like a food.
No, why why? Why? Dad? Why coming? Baby? The
bucket man? Then that's me questing? I got coote. I wouldn't you
all made alone? I say all. I'm bled up with doting. I'll
say it about him j d resident the gold days. I'm ending in under.
I can't remember the last time I was happy to get seen so long
ago my rostbred and at the end of my grube and I'm just looking boy,
something more than all of us happy? Less? Wh Why why did
that l? I was drawn in that way? Drawn? And what's jussey?
Who I am? Who I have? That is happy? By the
Mighty Suicide Squirrels who are here with us in studio hanging out with DJ Reckless
and I and uh, yeah it's funny. So before the song we were
talking about you know is it is a really happy song, and then I
think the first line is I can't remember the last time I was happy.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ago, Yeah. It takes it right out
the mast. The funny part is we're all happy when we're making music.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's fun. Music is the best way to
like to hide those kinds of things. You can have upbeat, sad song
and everyone's just like, this song is great, and then you're just like,
oh wait, oh wait, you're saying, but yeah, the music
will be sabb It's not like we're me for We're here for a fun time,
right right, Yeah. Absolutely, if you're dealing with the reality of
life, if you'd like to get in with a call, uh for these
guys, the studio line is open six O three two five O six seven
six O three two five O six oh seven. We do have a little
bit of show left, so uh, just don't wait till the last minute.
But six O three two five O six o seven we do have another
song that we're gonna play at the end of the show from these guys.
But we are hanging out with the Mighty Suicide Squrols here with us live in
studio. Do you guys have a lot of shows coming up the rest of
the year or not a lot, but enough we're keeping busy. You don't
like they're in the winter. I'm not a fan of like booking a lot
of shows unless they're really gonna be worthwhile. I just you never know what
the wind with the winter. You could be like, oh, all week,
it's gonna be pristine. You got a show coming up, and then
we got a blizzard that day, so it's canceled anyway. So it's kind
of the winter is good just to make music and just kind of hang out
and hit the important shows. But the most part, I'm not really looking.
We are playing Bristol, Connecticut on Sunday. Yeah, we got so
we do. We do have Friday Sunday this weekend coming up, We're doing
wester Than Connecticut, and then we got we got on the next weekend going
to get Tattoos. We're playing then we're getting Tattoos, and then we got
a Palmer show which is Western Mass and then we got a December seventh show
in Worcester again at Ralphs and then I forget. Uh. Then we're on
the road day after Thanksgiving. Day after Thanksgiving, we're in Pawtucket, Rhode
Island. Yeah, Jimmy West's birthday party. If anyone can go, go
to Jimmy West, Gerrants the Punk check them out. We're gonna go.
We're gonna go hang out with them. It's his birthday. It's gonna be
great, it's gonna be fun. I got we got a couple of good
bands, a couple of bands from uh oh, one Thing come from New
York. We got Quiet coming from New York. So I we go.
We've been helping out Torn Band. We're gonna be playing with the Torn Band
when we go to Connecticut. They're going from Connecticut to our New New York
to Connecticut. We're gonna play a Bleachers in Bristol. And then right after
Thanksgiving, they're coming to Rhode Island doing their New England tour and they're gonna
play with the US at the News Cafe and put Tucket with I Forget.
We've been playing with so many bands, but I think it's the dinner the
punk. It's gotta be the d op It's hard Trammy West birthday party.
So it's got to be the dinners to check them out. They're yeah,
they're good friends. We've made a lot of good friends this year. We've
really made our way into like the circle of punks, I guess you could
say, or just ThEC of the circle of our music that we're playing.
Yeah, we really fell in and have really grasping a hold of Yeah,
a lot of what's going on is in our Facebook live chat and says booking
shows in New England during the winter is always like rolling the dice. Yeah
it is. It's very hard doing anything in New England, New England this
summer. Like the Sports Best out in Boston. Yeah, it's like people's
houses and stuff. But we did like a lot of Saturdays every Saturday this
year just rain, Yeah rained this play it outside of the rain. Annoying.
Yeah, it was annoying. Made the people still came out. A
lot of people came out. Sports Fest was was a huge thing for us
this year. Any band out there trying to make an aim for yourself,
sign up for these Porsche fests. Yeah, they helped you out. Moost
parties yeah a small and it's a town wide thing. The town wide thing.
It's approved. Yeah, you get a lang out in the streets and
the crowd is just you get everything. You get everybody, the older people
that you know everything. Yeah, it's yeah, more people can get you
out there. You lose the label of a bar, so more people go.
A lot of people are are just not interesting because it says bar or
you got to go to a bar. Yeah. I lose so many people
when I when I market twenty one plus when you sucks to have to pull
off the whole ages show because where do you play. It's so hard to
do. You do this on the side the street though, and there's tons
of people. Oh yeah. Even played two blocks away from Fenway, right
on the main strip right on turned down. Yeah, they almost turned down,
but we were we're like outside of like some fancy like coffee cafe thing,
like high rise that's probably why right there, apartment building right behind you.
And then I started down that looked like blue man. Yeah, I
was growing waters flying up. It got to a point where all of our
stuff got soaked and we were like all right, it was watertil it was
too much and I was like all right, we're gonna be done. It
was good. But yeah, but we still had the best of it.
You know, we had people pulling up on the sidewalk in their cars just
filming us doing this and now blasts like that's a lot of driving. There's
another band. You go a couple of blocks hour, there's another band.
It's always a good time. That's awesome. Didn't you guys say something earlier
too about you went out to Ohio? You played Now we're going yeah in
December, that's gonna be pretty much the height of our winter. Now why
has that happened? Like like that's all what a friend of ours name Dave
Strong. Check him out from Maine. Dave Strong, Maine, great guy,
great music. Yeah, helped us out a lot. But he's going
on on tour okay, out through Pennsylvania and Ohio, and we're jumping on
him with him for a show. Yeah, he's got this very couple couple,
hopefully two shows to try and get it more than one show. We
got all these dates in the road, so we're gonna try and we know
some people along the way, so we're gonna hopefully Strong. He's that guy
though he's supported us a lot through from the beginning. Dave guys, it's
awesome. So anybody can check him out, like Dave Strong, Dave Strong,
check it out. Is he solo artist or what he does? Both?
He does He's got a full band, but does does do solo?
Yeah, okay, all right, cool. Yeah, he's heavy into it.
A lot of the people that we've met are pretty heavy into I feel
like a lot of it. It's like you got you got a couple,
We got a couple of guys that are just like in everything, like yeah,
yeah, a lot of it kind of is. Yeah, it's like
just one person doing a bunch of things. Someone's gotta have the ideas.
You know, someone's gonna be making the ideas to the music. Stepsis in
the chout says, you guys are so right. All ages shows are invisible
evidence why some younger people have a tough time relating to human generated live performances.
This is true. Yeah, I know, go ahead. Sorry.
A lot of it is just tough to find a venue or like a lot
of people come from small towns and it's like you can't go play a venue
unless you rent it, and nobody wants to rent the venue because then you're
a thousand bucks a room. Right, right, right, Then if you
don't fill it, and if you don't even make your money back, then
whatever you spend, it's just kind of a waste. That's why, Like
I thought about doing undertone ones, but it's like if I'm putting a thousand
bucks to put this room and I need to sell at least one hundred tickets
and there's no way. Yeah, right, you know it's not going to
happen, and a lot of people are interested in yeah, the Dropkick Murphy.
Right, if you're not mainstream, then it's like you're kind of like
nothing, which is sad because a lot of the so cool, so cool,
it's just a lot more interesting. Support your local guys. You know,
a lot of bookings wanted to do though, all ages initiative from when
I heard I talked to I talked to them a few a few weeks ago
at the Justin Clancy show. Yeah, which I think would be huge.
Definitely, I don't know, definitely help everybody. It would help everyone.
You need a place that would just want it, but you need a good
place that you gotta have a place that has food. If you're gonna have
a place that's gonna at least be underage you can do all the eighteen plus
shows you brought. You got to have food, and you got to have
obviously a bar, but you can just you just got to have the right
place. They just have someone who wants to deal with like the responsibility of
Hey, we got underage kids here, but we also are serving adults as
well. There used to be I don't know if any of you guys remember,
because this was a while ago, the Sad Cafe in Plastow, do
you guys at all on the border? Yeah, that's right on the border,
but yeah, right, yeah, yeah, they used to do all
ages shows. That was a great place. I mean, I grew up
in Fitchburg and we always had the Club four ninety. I'm not familiar with
that. That was all ages place. It was an all ages place.
I didn't even serve alcohol, yeah, you know, and you know,
like Matt Kelly from the Drug Kicks. Old bands used to play there for
abuse, no kidding, you know, Like I've seen so many bands there,
so I can't even remember them all so many beers. He doesn't remember
that the beers? Is it? Sam black Church played there? Oh really
yeah, back in the day, you know, like it was it doesn't
exist anymore because the scene's gone. But yeah, well that's a big thing
too. The scenes. Just I feel like we're in the most unappreciated scene.
It's just there's no one that's really stuff to play punk rockety yeah.
I feel like it's stough to play punk Rockey days. No one, no
one's interested in what you're doing unless you're big. I feel like that's the
toughest thing. That's always a struggle. I feel like all the other genres
people pay attention. Yeah, well it's it's like a big local metal scene.
Yeah, scenes yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I just feel
like the punk rock scene it's just really underappreciated, undervalued, and then but
we'll get it back. Yeah. It goes on always, everything just trying
to get something to the show. It just seems like it's very mm hmm
coming from like DJing and booking, booking, DJs out here. Every things
coming go like right now, right now. Within is Spanish and Latin right
now. Unfortunately, I mean fortunately, but like not unfortunate. But I'll
put you in a box too much. That's just like us. We'll play
a show for two people, then we'll play a show for decent people and
you're like, all right, this is awesome, Like but right, all
depend, you gotta do the grind, you know. That's what we've been
doing all year. We probably played over fifty shows this year. But a
lot of it is just to get out there. Yeah yeah, yeah,
sometimes it's just playing for the other bands and everything's pay right now. That's
when I went on Like that's like when I went on tour Austin, Texas,
we sold two tickets, but Nashville we sold two hundred. Yeah.
There's also the connections you make along right right. Yeah, We've seen a
bunch of touring bands, you know, and it's like we used to play
my Tuesday nights. Do that again any night of the week. Yeah,
I'm mad. I'm that was at that point though first. But you know,
when you're first starting out, even just even just to make the connections
with all their bands, and you gotta get yourself out there, play the
Monday night shows exactly abouday you say yes to never who's gonna be there either
exactly, never say no. You never know who's gonna be there, and
just going to that one show could lead to you getting onto it instantly.
Just being there. It just makes you could you could be on another show
that same night, just like hey, now, yeah we've played shows and
all of a sudden we leave that night and we got three more shows just
because of talking to people. And it's awesome. Like I'm running into that
now with like with like weddings and stuff like that. I'll play play clubs
and they'll be like, hey, we have a wedding for you down the
line. I'm like, do it exactly. Well, we gotta start to
wrap up and then we're gonna play We're gonna play Home. That's the one
we haven't played yet. In a moment to finish up. But uh,
guys, thank you so much. This has been great having us absolutely absolutely
the Mighty Suicide Squirrels. Very easy to it. With a name like that,
it's very easy to although you know what's funny, so it's easy to
google you. But when I looked for the Facebook page, yeah you answer,
you get the warning? You got the warning? I did? I
did. Yeah, yeah, but you're all right right, I don't know.
I'm here. I'm here, but uh no, I appreciate you guys
coming in. I love your sound, I love what you're doing and uh
what what's uh? Obviously people can find you online pretty easily. Do you
have a website specifically that you want to mention? We're on Facebook typical stuff.
Yeah, and the and the tunes are on this the streaming platform anyone
whatever you got, We're on okay and uh what what do you have coming
up this week for shows? You got? Uh anything? On the third,
the third, and then we're in Bristol, Connecticut at Bleacher's Bar Okay
on the fifth, on the fifth with coming from New York from We Got
Fuyt excellent, excellent. That should be That should be a good one.
All right, well, very good. Whole weekend should be good. We're
excited. We're excited for everything. Yeah, I always we like to be
Yeah, we like to we like to be in there. Anybody who wants
us to play, let us know. We'll make a night interesting. That's
for sure. Very good, very good and DJ Reckless anything out of this
week you want to plug brand new Friday's coming to the city finally. Yeah,
I'm finally headlining six oh three every weekend now, four dollar Fridays,
four dollar Green Tea, Jaeger Bomb, Tito's Mixed Drinks until eleven, so
that's going to be massive, excellent. And November twenty second, my birthday
bash blackout Wednesday, Thanksgiving Eve. That's already going to be massive. Yeah,
yeah, birthday. I know I'm twenty three. It's my Jordan year.
I think Michael Jordan was twenty three, right, Yeah, that would
have really sucked. If you want, canceled immediately, every NBA basketball fan,
and this listening canceled. Very good, all right, thank you DJ
Reckless, and thank you the Mighty Suicide Squirrels and uh if absolutely and if
you missed any part of today's show, it will be up in just a
little bit at w m n H Radio dot org and at my website Matt
Connorton dot com. And we will leave you at this one more track from
the Mighty Suicide Squirrels. This is called Home. I'm coming home. I'm
coming home, Coming home, I'm coming home. Yeah, everybody's telling play
got stop coming home. Have to come up, Clay, I don't want
it here. No boys saying here, team like the memories come at the
kne get him feels there, going to team. I have a mom in
the bags. Don see even the Pats they give it on the me feel.
Those gathering toys never fell on in the boys. Now I got the
gap and I died. Play the start up, coming home, don't walk
a test. I make this places like a tucking pens, and then having
the rad the min side things, taking me to brown again, and then
going down the job to side of mind to run the play. Not a
been with it, say everybody around by, I have no one here to
clime. Shall I clomb the sather? Not going way? Well, I'm
not coming home. I'm never coming back. Ho
