one, twenty twenty three, and I am not alone. If you haven't
girl problems out for bad for you, son, I got ninety nine problems.
But chan one DJ Reckless is here. May Christmas. Oh not yet,
it's November first. Good lord, No, it's November first, May
Christmas. We still got to get through Thanksgiving. And I think the next
big holiday is Veteran's Day. No, the next big holiday is my birthday.
What are you talking about? Oh? Yeah, when is that?
It is? What's today? November first? It's November one, twenty nine,
twenty eight, twenty eight days. Listen, man, it's been a
day. Okay, it's Thanksgiving Eve, right, it is my birthday party,
but my oh technical birthday is November twenty nine. But oh okay.
I'm generally horrible at remembering birthdays. I remember mine, I don't. I
barely remember my own too. Sometimes, Like Jenny wished me happy birthday and
I was like, oh yeah, he's like, oh crap. Yeah,
yep, welcome everybody. H DJ Reckless is here and we have a great
guest coming up in the second hour. Boston band Inverter will be skyping in
and we'll be playing some of their music, really really good band, and
a couple of those guys too, apparently used to work at WBCN when that
was still a thing, So for a radio nerd like me, I'll have
to ask them some questions about that too. I don't know if it's going
to be the whole band on skype or just a couple of them or one
of them, but we still see. But uh yeah, I really like
these guys Inverter, high energy, heavy, really really good stuff. So
yeah, so that'll be coming up. That'll be coming up a bit later,
and and oh tomorrow, we have a simple complex joining us in the
second hour, a great band whom I've interviewed several times over the years and
shared a stage with at some shows back when I used to play in in
bands. I uh opened for them or booked a show that you put them
on it or so. I have a long association with those guys that will
be tomorrow. I think they're coming in. That'll be really cool. And
then Friday we have Sepsis and perhaps some other VIPs associated with Swarmy Fest coming
up Saturday at Jewel. So there's a lot going on. It's a big
week. Yes, Yes, Jenny has told me only Deeke from the band
Inverter will be skyping in. Well, he's cool. I believe he's one
of the guys who worked at WBCN, so I'll be asking asking him about
that as well. And I'm sure he's used to being asked about WBCN.
But long ago, if I remember correctly, we did a show on Friday
Night Retrospect Radio with poly C. I think we did a show that was
a tribute to WBCN. You're gonna have to elaborate to me, madam,
I know, I know WBCN. Yeah, legendary rock station out of Boston
that they closed a while ago. Who's a number of years ago? Now,
what was the one that just most recently closed? Like everyone had a
well there's also wa a f that might have been afterward. Yeah, yeah,
but WBCN. There's a documentary about WBCN that I think this was a
few years ago, but I think it was playing and it played and conquered
at the I forget the name of the theater now. It's where where they
show a lot of documentaries and and independent films. And I think, if
I remember correctly, Peter White went to that, went and saw it.
It wasn't like the Capitol Theater or something like that. No, it was
there is the Capital Theater in uh in conquered or the Capitol Center. I
think it used to be the Capitol Theater and then it became the Capital Center.
But no, it's uh, it's a there's a theater. Oh,
I think it's red River red River the Yes, and uh yeah, I
think actually I think Peter and poly C might have gone to that together to
see that the WBCN documentary, and they said very good things about it.
I hope I have that right. This was a number of years ago,
so but anyway, Yeah, so very interested in speaking with Deeke at the
top of the hour, and like I said, we'll play some inverter very
very cool band. And what do you have going on this? Oh?
You know what? Before we even get into that, do you want do
you want to talk about yesterday? This is kind of funny you. I
think we referred to it on the air, but I didn't get the full
story until afterward. Our guests yesterday? Who was what was the band we
had on you? Yeah, the Mighty Suicide Squirrels. I could remember the
full name. I didn't want to just say the Squirrels, the Mighty Suicide
Squirrels. Yes, So we had them on the show, but you ran
into them before the show, before they came on. It was funny because
right so I was on for the first hour and then we went on break
and I ran over to six o three because anyone that knows me right now
is that I'm doing a lot of work over there with that with that team
to get Friday Night's going. And I was over there and these guys go,
didn't we just see you on our on our phone. I go,
what do you mean? And they showed me the live stream of the radio
radio show and they're like, yeah, we're going on at five. I
go, oh, oh, hi, how are you today? Yeah?
Yeah, So that was pretty cool. And then I was supposed to get
get back on at five and I never did. Well you did eventually,
I did. You got back into you didn't have the code, but but
wasn't there also something about your I heard you you warned them not too uh
im vibe and alcohol before coming on. Uh huh? I thought PTSD man
major PTSD And I wasn't even here for it, right right, yeah,
if you know, you know, But yes, it's it's you don't want
to be uh uh no. And they were they were fun. I like
those calls. I like those guys a lot. But no, I just
thought it was funny that you ran into the more there and you like kind
of warned them, Hey, it's easy before you go on a radio show,
you don't want to be a little uh too uh saucy. I think
the young people, the young people say that, right. Kyle Clayton of
The Morning Show, he's in the chat room. He says I don't recommend
it. Yeah, me neither. Man. Yeah. The one thing I've
never done, I've never come on this show drunk. No, no,
never, No, that is discouraged to do that after though, Is that
is discouraged in this establishment? Yeah? Yeah, well I've never done that
either. But of course I'm barely a drinker. I think if you over
the course of my adult life, if you were to average it out,
the uh, Like, I'm not a non drinker, because when someone says
non drinker, I take that to mean someone who never touches alcohol. But
I think if you were to average it out over the course of my entire
adult life, or since I was twenty one old enough to drink, I
probably have a drink a year is probably what it averages out, too.
That's how uh, that's how little alcohol all I can say. I wish
I could say the same. Yeah, yeah, yeah, your liver probably
wishes that too. Hey, my liver's doing just fine. Okay, well
you're still you sin, Jenny. This will catch up with you, Jenny,
My liver's doing fine. It'll catch up with you. Kidding, what
kill me when I go home? Now? Your liver's going to kill you?
No, Jenny, you've got a few years left with the liver,
I'm sure, but a little cirrhosis is you know? I mean, you
know, you're a young man. We're chilling, We're good, We're great.
Those Titos and Crans are doing are doing great now? Oh yes,
So I started to ask you, what do you have coming up this week
for djying because you are very, very busy and it's hard to keep up
with you. Yeah. I just dropped my November rundown, which is thirteen
dates, which I don't like because it's the number thirteen. But you better,
you better add another one. I'm super I'm super stoked though, because
because my promotion brand Project Reckless, is finally taking over Friday's at six so
three, and it's been something I've been wanting to do for a wicked long
time, and so we're doing like crazy liquor promos like five dollars Fridays,
where like green tea shots, white tea shots, Tito's and well drinks and
beers are all five dollars. I know I ask you this every time,
but I can for some reason, I can't remember. Yeah, what is
a well drink? More like bottom shelf liquor. Oh the cheap stuff.
Yeah. Oh why why is it called the well drink because it's like from
the bottom of the well or something. I don't know that that's probably what
it is. I just handle like getting cheap liquor prices because that's like all
my clients will loves. Uh. So, like, yeah, no,
we're taking the whole Reckless University thing is taken over Fridays there and I have
have Thursdays at Murphy's and Murphy's right now is popping. M h. I'm
I'm super proud of the whole entire team that I've put together, and they're
week in and week out, we're doing the numbers we're doing over there because
it's unheard of up here, Like you get down to Boston and like obviously
they have I'm basing what I'm doing up here. I'm basing out from like
what I'm watching in Boston with like the promo and stuff like that and Slacker
University. I'm watching what they're doing, and I'm sort of doing the same
thing up here to a point. Yeah, but yeah, I know Fridays,
I am s six o three officially every Friday, and I'm so excited
for it because now I'm not Now I'm not only opening, I'm headlining and
closing. So that's that's that's huge to me. It's been something I've wanted
to do. We're also in the process of finally planning my birthday, which
I I'm nervous, why because last year was like huge and I think this
year could be very good. I'm excited for it. Well good, well
good? Uh where should people go online to keep up with what you're doing?
I always like to give you an opportunity to do on my Instagram to
spell reckless so people can find you. I know, man, I really
got to change that, but I just I don't have the heart to do
it anymore. It's just I love how I love how difficult it is sometimes
really, except when people are drunk trying to type it in just give me
your phone, but no, it's dj R E k LSS on Instagram,
Facebook and yeah that's it actually, because I don't you really give up my
snapchat as much anymore. Yeah, I'm trying to get away from that.
Yes, yes, uh, well, if you would like to join us
on the program six o three two five oh six oh seven, the studio
line is open six o three two five oh six oh seven. You can
also text me at six one seven nine one seven four four seven six.
I'm on social media at Matt Connerton. Uh. You can uh email me
Matt at Matt conorton dot com. And of course you can interact end o
pine uh in the Facebook live chat. But the best thing to do so
that we can hear and enjoy your dulcet tones is to give us a call
at six oh three two five oh six oh seven, and we'll say hello
to everybody in the Facebook live chat. EASYG is in there and says happy
All Saints Day and Happy Prince Spaghetti Day. Very good, Easy G.
Eric Agnan Uh Tom former entertainment reporter. No he still is he just fired?
Well, I mean, uh, you know, we we might have
to put him under review after that last report. Wait when did I miss
Oh, it's just it was hard to hear him at one point. At
one point it sounded as though he had put the phone down and had walked
to the other end of the room and was speaking to us. It was
great. Other, yeah, that's what it sounded like. At one point
it was let me tell you about them. April Cushman date. Honestly,
you know what it sounded like. At one point too, it sounded like
he was speaking to us on a cordless phone from nineteen eighty eight. It
was Yeah, it wasn't It wasn't great. I mean, you know,
the effort was there, just technology was not cooperating with our friend EZG not
cooperating at all. Tom Blanchard is in the Facebook claut chat and says,
awesome music today from noon to three on WM and H. I don't know
what was playing from noon to three pm today on the on the station.
But wait a minute, that doesn't even make sense because two to four.
The replay of the morning Show with Peter White is two to four. I
was going to say, maybe maybe he meant noon to two pm. Also,
Matt, you don't listen to the radio show when you're not here,
Matt, I do sometimes. Nope, you have to listen to it twenty
four to seven. That would well, that would be difficult. I mean
I have to sleep. But yeah, Jay Fed joins us from the great
State of Vermont, as well as Melanie A La Liberty. Melanie says,
hey, DJ Reckless, how are you doing. I'm doing great? She
also says, come on, admit it, you love it. When I
am in the chat room, I just realized you Your hat said AOC on
it, Matt. My hat does not. It does has AOC on it.
It says People's Action. Yeah, with an A and O, N
A C. Well those letters, Uh, can you I tell them I'm
trying to dodge that subject. Oh, I'm sorry. Yes, I'm not
happy with her. She came at me over something I felt very passionate about
and then tried to spin a narrative. Therefore, I don't like you.
Well, you know, you DJ's, you're always feuding. No, not
necessarily me. Yes, you DJs. Some of us know you're always beefing
beef. I like to say, I like to say that word with a
deep voice, beef. Last time I had beef with the DJ they came
and commented on the show. So we sorted that out. Hopefully that's right.
Easy, G says, I going to get me some DJ reckless.
Yeah, I don't know what that means. Tom Blanchard says, hello,
mister reckless. Hello, Carol's the Warwitz joins us and says good afternoon.
Jenny is in the Chatterman says, she'll oam peeps. Uh easy, g
says, miss you. Hugs. Ah, he wants to get him some
reckless and give you a big hug. I'll come down to where he's saying.
Actually, I think you met Jenny. Yes, he's in a staid
living facility in Nashua with very poor somebody she can service. Like what.
Tom Blancher says, That's why I love this station. Cool music. Hans
Smith of Sepsis, who of course we'll see Saturday at Swarmyfest, says,
hey metal, Matt Hello. Charles Richardson from the state of Florida joins us,
and of course host of the Charles Richardson Show. He says, good
afternoon, peeps. Hans says, I stopped drinking five years ago. Good
good. I stopped drinking three days ago. Huh yeah, you've stopped drinking
a number of times. Hey, hey, hey, take it easy there,
pal, that's just an observation. We are going so till my birthday
though, good, good, good good. Jay Fed says I'm drinking warm
apple cider and eating Carometl popcorn. Oh god, why that sounds horrifying.
That's disgusting. Sorry, Melanie says I dropped my November rundown last week.
I'm going to drop December's list next week. I feel like she's competing with
you me too. Mm hmmm mm hmm hmm. Let's see here. Isaac
Banks joins us in the chairman says I'm watching you from Greensboro, North Carolina.
Matt Connorton, I suspect it as much. Scott Robinson says, well,
hello guys, and Mariam Bannish joins us and says, good afternoon.
Isaac Banks says, Matt Connorton, I give a shout out to my friend
Victoria Piper from and live in Greensboro, North Carolina. Yes, do I
even want to ask what this comment is? Mike from Queen City Cabinetry joins
us in the Facebook live chat. Queen City Cabinetry of course one of our
great sponsors here at w M and H and I get to hang out with
Mike every Friday night on retro Spectrum Radio with poll c. He is one
of our one of our co hosts here on Retrospectrum Radio along with Paul and
of course, said DJ Steve get to hang out with those guys. Matt,
you just totally skipped over a comment, and I know for sure you
did because you laugh. There's a bunch of things in here that are funny.
I don't even want to know, man, I don't even want to
know today, Melanie said, you know, because of the holidays, I
want people to know where I am djaying so they can plan. That is
very considerate. Isaac Banks says, good afternoon. Hashtag Victoria Piper, how
are you doing? I was wondering if you would like to come to the
Inner Rhythm Choir concert at Lindley Park Baptist Church. Well, very nice,
we have a call. Hi, welcome to Matt Connorton. Unleash. Who
is this? No, Dave Ridley, It's David Ridley in time, No
talk, Dave Ridley. What's going on? Dave? Well, it looks
like I've been listing over the last couple of days and this looks like the
first chance for meted to actually call an in tell you something interesting is happening
in New Hampshire. Oh well, I'm intrigued. So apparently things are so
quiet and awesome in New Hampshire that the this is the The Hampshire government has
set up a task force to try and protect us from the dangerous forces of
Quebec. Ah. Yes, well this is why I feel that if we
do ever secede from the Union, we need to have at least one nuclear
weapon in case uh Quebec ever tries to invade us. What have they done
to protect us from from Quebec? I mean, you know how they are.
I hope that's not racist. I think we need to be on guard.
What's going on, David Ley, and please don't be one sided about
it. Tell us what those Quebecers are up to? Yeah, you know,
hunting, fishing around with the on license plates. So I guess the
idea is that well if there, if you know, the politicians disigareed otta,
they can get so much mileage out of a crisis in you know,
on the Mexican border, why not manufacture a crisis on the border with Quebec.
So I guess there's been a string of politicians coming and going from New
Hampshire's northern border it's completely unpopulated northern border, worrying that nothing in particular might
happen, right, and trying to get more funding for their project to do
nothing important on the northern border except interfere with traffic. Now what if,
well, okay, what if a moose were to wander across that border and
cause all kinds of dave. You know, you have to prepare for any
eventuality, especially when speaking about our border. Yeah, and you know,
have you ever been to Dairy? I'm not sorry. Derby Derby Derby Line,
Vermont, No, I don't. I mean, we have a couple
of Vermontras in the chat room who might have. I've never been there.
It's called Derby Line Derby Line. So the idea is that they want to
increase policing on New Hampshire's border with Quebec, but in Derby Line where they
have a you know border. Actually I don't know if the border is Quebec
or just Canada in general. But the town has been turned into a police
state and a ghost town at the same time. Does that because I haven't
actually haven't been there, but I've watched a lot of raw video from the
site and just read some articles and so like, for instance, they got
like they've got policing going on inside the library because the library sits on both
sides of the border. Because no one used to care. Right twenty years
ago, when people were saying, wait a minute, they have a they
have a library there that that is on literally on the border, like part
of it's on each side of the border, correct, because in the old
days, no one cared where the border was, right right. Yeah,
Oh that's interesting. Yes, So this is just I mean, this is
the reality of border border policing. People think, oh, yeah, we
got some kind of a problem in the border, so the obvious solution is
to send a bunch of police. But what happens is the police wind up
feeling you into your country. They don't keep the enemy out, they keep
you in. Does that make sense, Yes, yes it does. And
by the way, those people are not not our enemies on either side on
either border, right on the northern border or the southern southern border. I'm
just I'm just amazed. I don't mean to be stuck on this day,
but I'm just fascinated by this idea that you can walk into a library and
actually enter another country while you're in there. We could, we could,
but now I think they've got it all locked down. And you know,
I don't know exactly what's going on inside the building right now, but it
changed, you know, after they started doing their border fascism now Melanie in
the chat room, she's one of the Vermontras that I was referring to.
She said, no, we have we have to police to protect our books.
Uh, we have police to protect our books. That happens in every
Vermont library and to make sure people are not chewing gum while reading. Of
course that is obnog sense. I mean Vermontras have nothing else better to do.
Oh my goodness, you're going you have to do up there, You're
going in. You can go snowboarding. Now, Dave, just to provide
some context to reckless his uh uh comments there, he's currently beefing with another
DJ who's from Vermont. Oh no, no, this is like I'm singing
in general, dude. Oh oh, I thought you. I thought this
was part of your beef. No, I'm saying, like, Vermont,
what what do you have up there? There's actually a veggie burger you can
get called all beef aside. Uh. I forget where they. I think
they have it at the USA Chicken and across the street there. Yeah.
Also, we need to talk about that later. That's what I was eating
earlier. Problems with you. I ate the U I had an all beef
aside. Uh, Dave, So what uh so, so, why why
are all these you said, it's a it's it's like, uh, there's
all these police. But it's a ghost town too, so there's like nothing
going on there, but all these police are there watching that portion of the
border. Is that what you're saying. Yeah? And also some some New
Hampshire liberty activists went up there a couple of years ago and they tried to
film outside and they got they got harassed by authorities, but I don't think
they arrested anyone. Uh. By the way, Legion of Solace says the
menaicine marauding moose of mass destruction from Montreal. Yes, yeah, that guy
needs to be a rapper DJ Yes, he was saying the Legion, yes,
Dave, go ahead. So to their credit, the a c LU
got involved there. I guess the n h c l U for the New
Hampshire branch of the a a c l U. They they have gotten involved
and been fighting this. They had a demonstration at the Statehouse recently, just
a few days ago, I think, and so think thank you to them
for doing that. We had someone from the New Hampshire a CLU on the
show maybe a few weeks ago, maybe a month ago, discussing that verious
well and other subjects as well. But he did talk about the border issue.
I know that some will say, and I have not studied this carefully
as far as our border with Canada, but I know that some would say
that there's a lot there is actual illegal activity going on at that border,
smuggling and things like that. But I will confess I don't know a lot
about what goes on there, but good there needs to be more illegal activity
as long as it's not violent, as long as it's not severy so,
when when New Hampshire seceeds from the Union, we'll have an open border with
Canada, I assume I'll push for one. Don't know if I'll get it.
Let's see again. That's the thing. That's the thing about independence is
independence is just independent, the freedom to to mismanage your own affairs. Right.
You mean you're going to make all the right decisions. And it doesn't
mean your government's going to be great. It just means you're not going to
be ruled from Washington anymore. That's all it is, right, right,
But who will corral the moose? I don't know, do you corral moose,
How do you I don't think how do you call? Because how do
you keep them from just walking around and walking into somebody's yard and reckons.
I'll tell you what if I lived up near that border and I saw a
moose coming across that border and doing weird stuff, and like what do moose
do? Like do they break stuff? Or I don't know what moose actually,
I've never seen a moose up close. Are they dangerous? I think
they're dangerous, right? Do they have antlers? They're pretty, They're they're
pretty docile. But I have seen on rare occasions they will harm people,
very rare occasions. I've seen a video of a moose either killing a guy
or injuring him. The way they do it is by running on top of
you, and then you know, they go ten or twenty meters off past
you, and then they turn around and run back over you again. I've
always wondered that's cruel. And I've always wondered what I've wondered if a big
red fire truck has ever hit a moose? Oh, I wonder I wonder
too. Yeah, that's a danger with moose, right, That's why you
see their Uh, that's why you see those signs in certain places where they
alert you that there's moose because they can, uh you know, if you
hit one in your car, good luck you and or the moose might end
up dead. Yeah. Yeah, you ever see those You ever been behind
a vehicle where they've got a sticker on it that says I break for moose
And it's like, well you would hope you do? Yeah, And I
always find that odd. It's like, well, yeah, I I actually
interestingly enough, and maybe this is just me, but if I'm driving,
I'll break for pretty much anything that comes running out in front of the car.
I mean, point now when now that will once one we've succeeded from
the union, you might be able to do that, but not yet,
reckless, and now I am canceled or well that we won't be able to
do that, actually, will we, Dave, when we're when we've succeeded
from the union, we'll have some laws, right, Like you won't be
able to run people over, will you. It will just be up to
the legislature, like it is. No, man, I gotta choose violence
real quick. You gotta choose violence. Yeah, why, okay? Well,
I think right, reckless you always have a question, why do we
even think that it's a possibility that New Hampshire will succeed. That's what I'm
getting here, that's what I'm hearing. But I couldn't. I could have
missed at different thing. That's a norm, that's a normal reaction. Whenever
somebody comes forward with an accurate prediction about the distant future, it always sounds
crazy. Does that make sense? Arthur Arthur's c Clark used to say,
like, if you have a scientist, you put him in a room thirty
years ago and he predicts what things are like now thirty years ago, everyone
thinks he's crazy. Does that make sense? It does, But I don't
think after how long have we been in ben a state in the United States
of America. I guess thirty years something like that. So what makes you
think that down the line, within the next thirty years we're going to succeed.
What is your reason? You can't? Yeah, things are gonna things
are going to change so much over the next thirty years that we can't see
what it's going to look like. But we can see backwards. We can
see history, how people thought Estonia would always be in the Soviet Union and
Slovenia would always be in Yugoslavia and Catalonia would always be in Spain. But
the long term history is that actually the number of countries has been increasing pretty
fast. It's up, it's four times. I think there's four times as
many countries now as there was one hundred years ago. The long term trend
is toward toward independence, and that that that if we think otherwise in the
United States, that's just we're being American exceptionalist. It's likely that that this
trend will affect us eventually. Did that make sense? Okay, So my
next question would be why do why do we think it's New Hampshire. Why
don't we think it's like Maine, Alaska, North Dakota, something along the
border, something else along the border. Why do we just think it's New
Hampshire Or do you just like to see all the states? Yeah, I'd
like to see all the states independent from the federal Union, you know,
but it's up to each state and it's just what you know, what we
think. But historically, one of the reasons why you benefit from being the
first one out the exit is again, look what happened to Slovenia, their
first one out the exit. They do fine. Croatia and Bosnia, however,
you've heard of because they were too slow when the time came. And
in Estonia they were first one out the exit. They did great. Everyone
has heard about how great Estonia is doing. But look what happened to Look
what happened to Chechnya, which was the last Sviat region to try and leave,
leave the Soviet Union, and they had a war. So you want
to be the first one out. Preferably everyone gets out without a war.
But secession is one of those things that tends to happen under It happens because
something terrible happens to the federal The federal government does something terrible and the situation
becomes really bad, and then people start looking for solutions like secession. Right
it becomes a solution when things get really bad. But right now it's just
an idea because things seem okay. Does that make sense? Yeah, I
mean yes. But New Hampshire is never the first to do much. I
mean, look at us. We still haven't legalized marijuana, but here we
are, so I don't think we're going to be the first to succeed.
Well we'll see, we'll see. I mean, you know, we poked
around on the internet just see what do what people are saying, See which
state you think is frivished in the lead. I would say it's probably Texas
right now, in New Hampshire in second place, and I would rather see
New Hampshire in first place versus one at the edit. That's what I was
saying. Texas or maybe Alaska, because those are strong secessionist movement there too.
Right in Alaska, there is, but it's been pretty couiescent for a
while. It was furthest ahead as of twenty years ago, and then they
just kind of lost focus. And in New Hampshire we still have you know,
people or people move here every day that are trying to get away from
some authoritarian state like Connecticut or Oklahoma or something like that, and they come
here with a bias in favor of independence. And so we have, like
we're the only state in the Union has an increasing population of immigrants who want
independence, who are almost almost specifically coming here for that. Does it make
sense? Yeah, I didn't know that, but that's that's interesting. I
mean, technically they're not coming here for New Hampshire independence, but if they're
a free Stater, who's moving to New Hampshire from some other state. They're
going to already have a bias in favor of independence. Of course, the
United States shouldn't be able to rule the Amshre. That's just what all of
them would tell you pretty much. Hmmm, yes, all right, that's
going to be a that's going to be a trend. I mean, it's
an immigrant trend and no other state has it. But yeah, I mean
i'll talk too much. No, Dave, we appreciate the call. Are
any anything else on that subject? Help me. If you want to push
back against the border they wasted the money they're going to waste on that border.
If you want to push back against that and the police state they're going
to try to set up up there, then come to forum that Shiresociety dot
com and you can talk to the rest of us and crazy people and we
can do crazy things like being against the police states. All right, very
good. I'm still fascinated about this library. I need to research that,
but all right, Derby Lyon library, Okay, yeah, I'm gonna I'm
gonna look that up. I'm really curious about that. That's interesting. All
right, Thank you so much for the call. I appreciate it. Okay,
by guys, all right, bye bye, all right. That was
Dave Ridley and that does open up the line for you. Six o three
two five o six oh seven six three two five oh six o seven.
I think, uh, virtual Dave Ridley had something he wanted to say as
well. See what, Oh hey, I have something. I have something
for you if you want to. Oh yeah, uh, you might have
been directing that to you, DJ reckless. Huh, I think he has
something for you. Oh no, my friends just texted me. But the
blasphemy this man just said. My friend just ran, Oh okay, I'm
done. I gotta go, I gotta go. Oh, virtual Dave Ridley
is leaving as well. Your friend, Uh what my friend just was like,
this dude is stupid. My friend just like, yeah, your friend
is stupid. No, oh oh, your friend is uh saying that about
Dave Ridley. Yeah, okay, come on, man, Matt, you
can't possibly both tell me you believe that we're going to seceed from the you
problem they from the United States of America. You can't possibly tell me you
believe this. No, I don't believe it, and I think it's a
terrible idea. Yeah, exactly. But I don't believe Davi Ridley is stupid.
I think he's actually highlighted. No, he's not stupid. I think
he's just uh but but I do think he's dedicated himself to a cause that
is fruitless and uh, you know, I mean it's never gonna happen.
It's just never gonna happen in no way. Uh. But uh, that
does open up the line six O three two five six seven six O three
two five six seven. Uh. Melanie was saying in the chat moose do
whatever they want. They are too big to try to redirect. We had
one in our backyard a few years ago. Let's seem wow, very busy
chat room. Oh my goodness, my goodness. So want to make sure
we didn't miss anybody in here. Melanie said, Uh, how does he
know that more people are moving to New Hampshire looking for him? I think
you just made that up exactly. Jay Fed says it sounds crazy to you,
Matt, because it's not happening yet. Isaac Banks says Matt Connerton on
November six, twenty twenty three, at Center City Park, downtown Greensboro karaoke
is I'm performing a solo known as Iikman Breezy, also Jimmy Palermo and me
performing. Our singing group is Eon Venom four with our bandmates is Jay Berkolder
and T Kwan C Brooks. Very nice, very nice. Hey, you
know what I haven't I haven't do we have time to do that? Yeah,
I'll make this quick. Something I haven't talked about on the air,
and something about Isaac Banks's comments remind me of this, and we might after
the interview with Inverter, we might. There's a lot of new news and
speculation about AI taking over and whatnot. Now you know, reckless, You
know that our device has listened to us, right, m They hear everything
we say? Yep. Do you believe it's possible that they also read our
minds? Yes? All right, Yes we're on the same page here.
All right, I'm going to tell you why I think this. By the
way, I'm about to tell you something that you're all going to think I'm
insane, But I don't care, because this is not a bit. This
is one hundred percent trough what I'm about to tell you. And you'll probably
say, Matt, this is all just a coincidence, But I don't think
it is. It's a little two coincidental to be. Don't get me wrong,
I'm not one of these people who says, oh, I don't believe
in coincidence. No, of course I believe in coincidence. Coincidence has happened.
But this is really really weird. This is really weird. Okay.
So recently something reminded me. So I saw in my newsfeed online there was
something about Van Halen popped up an article about Van Halen. Uh, the
last studio album that they did with David Lee Roth called It's like twelve years
ago, thirteen years ago, maybe not quite that long. I was called
a simple kind of truth. Great album, but apparently it's not available on
any of the streaming platforms. And I was puzzled as to why. And
I was reading the article. Anyway, me reading that article, it brought
back a memory. And you know, my dad listens to the show.
I'm sure he remembers this. When I was a kid, van Halen released.
It was on VHS because that's what you know, we didn't have DVDs
yet. Uh, back back back in my day, we had vhs and
uh it was it was called Live Without a Net and it was of a
live show from new Haven, Connecticut. I remember specifically it was new Haven
because Sammy Hagar. During the concert, he announces that they're renaming it New
Halen, Connecticut. It's very no but the great concert, and I remember
watching it with my dad, and my dad really loved it too. In
fact, we ended up watching the entire thing twice. He let me stay
up late, even though it was a school night. We both enjoyed it
so much, and then he had to walk ten miles uphill to school.
No, I'm getting to the weird part right, So new Haven, Connecticut.
So I didn't discuss this with anybody just recently. It just it was
a memory that popped into my brain because I saw this article about Van Halen
online and I just I thought back to that night that my dad and I
watched that concert that was recorded in new Haven, Connecticut. Next thing,
I know, after thinking about that, hadn't discussed it with anybody. I
just thought about it. It's just a memory. Next thing, I swear
to God, you're all gonna think I'm nuts, but I can prove.
I have the emails to prove it. A day or two later, I
start receiving you know how like, if you're living here in Manchester, you
can sign up for like email alerts and text alerts about you know, when
there's a snow emergency, or you want to know when you know, if
if they send out an alert that a street's going to be closed because of
road construction or whatever. Well, new Haven, Connecticut has that, of
course, probably most cities do. Now, all of a sudden, I'm
on this mailing list, I'm getting emails. I'm getting emails from city hall
in new Haven, Connecticut as though I'm a resident there, with alerts like
you know there's going to be road construction going on at this time. I
have no idea why. So when was this? This was a few weeks
ago. Okay. I was gonna say, because you I know, you
went to I went to Providence, Rhode Island. Yeah. I was gonna
say, maybe when you were driving through there or something. I don't know.
I don't know. This is that's crazy, dude. I did well.
I didn't even go through Connecticut. I went through Massachusetts. Oh my
geographic you know. But I swear to god, I just I had a
random memory about New Haven, Connecticut. Didn't discuss it with anybody. Didn't
say anything about it online. It was just a memory about new Haven,
Connecticut. And the next thing I know, I'm on this weird mailing list
getting these alerts. Like I could probably tell you, I probably have an
email in my inbox I didn't bother to open about. You know what's happening
right now and new Haven, Connecticut. I'm telling you, the technology is
there. They're reading our minds. And I know I sound insane, but
this isn't a bit. This isn't me trying to be funny. This happened.
I haven't even told Jenny about this yet. This happened. I know
I sound like a lunatic, but I'm telling you. But I'm telling you
I thought about new Haven, Connecticut, and the next thing I know,
they're sending me alerts. It's bizarre. So my issue with all of this
is cool that damn mailing list. Bro, I'm over it. I'm over
Trump in particular with these email lists. Email list is a trigger word for
me right now, oh, because my email right now this is all Trump
stuff and I don't even support him. H I signed up for maybe one
newsletter or something, or maybe when I got years ago, when I got
a ticket to the thing at the arena. But like I swear, they
just like transfer these email databases from one group to the other, because damn,
bro, I'm getting emails from Chris Christy, Barack Obama's all right,
Trump everything, and I'm like, dude, I don't even involve myself in
this. Uh huh, I could care less. But yeah, now I'm
running out of email storage because of y'all stop spamming me with emails. Well,
I'm starting to think maybe all you have to do is think really hard
that you want them to stop spamming you, and they might. I think
hard. My brain explodes because they can read our thoughts. Now, how
do you explain that though it's so bizarre, that's that's back to that that
it's crazy and this is you know, this is all true, Like none
of this is for a fact, I'm not exaggerating any of it. I
thought it and then there it is. You know what's coming full circle for
me right now is you just brought up Sammy Hager. Hagar Hagar. Yeah,
we were just talking about him maybe three days ago randomly at the bar.
Oh really, yeah, yeah, And we were talking about like David
Lee Roth and all those people. Yeah, which obviously that's before my time.
I didn't know who that was. But to hear the name come back
around it was really weird because I've never been a name I heard before,
but now all of a sudden, I'm hearing it like two times in one
week. Yeah, is the red Rocker. Yeah, we're gonna like get
canceled in a minute here, bro, because we're like, we're gonna start
talking about like this time space continuum and everything else. I don't know now,
Melanie said in the chat room. Anytime you give your email on a
website, they sell that. Yeah, but they sell it to new Haven,
Connecticut city Hall. They've been known to do that. It's just so
bizarre. I don't know. I was born in Connecticut, but not New
Haven. I was born in Hartford, Hatford I think is Hotford, but
yeah, I don't know. Oh. Isaac Banks helpfully explains in the chat
room Van Halen was the front man. Was David Lee Roth back in the
eighties. Well, yes, and then Sammy Hagar. By the way,
it's a divisive topic. People will say who do you like more? Who
do you prefer Roth or Hagar? You know what I always say, I
love them both for different reasons. They're both great canceled. I sound like
a fence sitter, I know, but I love them both. Now gun
to my head, though, I go Hagar, Segar's got the pipes.
I don't know who of these people are. I've just heard the name like
three times because they wanted to do a Sammy Hagar tribute and I was like,
no, we're not doing one, absolutely not. That will not sell
tickets. Sammy Hagar tribute. Yeah, that wouldn't sell tickets up here.
I'm sorry, I don't know, like uh, because there's been a discussion
to get live music back into six o three. Yeah, and DJs.
I'm just like the guy said, yeah, I want to do Sammy Hagar
tribute. I'm like, absolutely not. And then you're gonna have me DJ
hip hop after. Make it make sense, my friend, Make it makes
sense. Oh. Isaac Banks helpfully clarified regarding David Lee Roth before Sammy Hagar
was the front man of Van Halen. Yes, Roth was first, and
then Hagar, and then Gary Sharon and then and then I don't know who
any of these people are because I'm like, I know young, yes,
yeah, I know obviously what van Halen is yeahes you cannot escape. Van
Halen certainly one of the biggest bands ever. Oh. Tom Blancher says,
I'm going to Florida tomorrow for my sister's birthday. I'm going to miss the
show for a while. Wow, take us with you, Tom. I
don't mean literally, but you know we are on the internet. But if
you want to take me with you, this weather is not it man.
Oh, it's not bad yet yet. Mah, I have no meat on
my bones. I know, twelve pounds, soaken away. I know.
Yes, you are very very thin. You seem to get cold easily.
It wasn't It wasn't even cold yet, and you were complaining about it being
cold the other day. I'm always complaining about the weather. It's either too
hot, too cold, or it's dry. That's true. I've noticed that
about you. Yeah. Isaac Banks says Van Halen had good hits. Yes,
yes, they did. All right. Well, we are approaching the
top of the hour, so what we need to do is take a break,
so some love to our amazing sponsors. We're gonna play something from our

Hey, man, I love that track. We have Deeke from inverter here
on the phone with us, and uh, yeah, should I go ahead
and disconnect you from Skype? Is this? Yeah? Do be spying you?
I can hear you. It's weird because these the connections on both isn't
so great. I think I live in some like Bermuda Triangle, like spot
in Massachusetts, who knows, who knows? Yeah, you never know.
With Skype, it's uh, it's hit or miss. It's better than it
used to be, but it's still will fail us at times, as technology
can often do. But uh, I'm glad to have you here, man.
I love this. Uh, I love this band inverter You sent us
a few tracks and we're gonna We're gonna play some more a little bit later.
I'll play another one at the end of our discussion. But great,
great stuff, very very catchy but heavy. You know it's it's catchy and
heavy, which isn't something that everybody can pull off. But really really good.
Thank you, Thank you appreciate that. Yeah, someone recently called us
dance metal. I'm like, I don't know if it's true, but that's
cool. And one thing we find is every time we play, the chicks
are always moving up front, which I'll take any day, because we always
try to we always try to kind of have that groove element to things as
opposed to blast beats and all that stuff, which we love too, but
it's just not what we do. Yeah, I totally get that dance medal.
I like that. I wouldn't have thought of that term, but that
completely makes sense. And uh yeah, very cool. Yeah you guys are
all Are you all from the Boston area? Yes? Correct, Yeah,
Boston area. And strange that we all, every single member of the band
at once, at one point time was affiliated with the former regula station WBCN
out of Boston one oh four one. Yeah, we were talking about many
moons ago. Yeah, yeah, we were talking about that earlier. And
you know, I'm a radio nerd, and I vividly remember WBCN, although
I can't I can't remember the name of the Dorees. A documentary that came
out a few years ago right about WBCN. Yeah, there is. There
was a book that came out. I made it in like four I was
like the later guard of BCN. I'm in like four pages of the book
maybe, yeah, but it's more about Like the said, I didn't even
grow up in the Boston area, so it's about like the seventies era of
BCN, the Heyday, and there was a documentary, and to be honest,
I have not seen it, even though I worked there for seven years.
I'm ashamed to say. No, I'm with you. I haven't seen
it either. That'll be on my list my Netflix rentals or whatever. There
you go. No, like I said, I haven't seen it yet either.
And I'm a radio nerd, so I definitely need to see it.
But but I've heard really good things. You're getting some love in the Facebook
live chat. By the way, Legion of Solace says inverter is a a
great, high energy live show that doesn't surprise me and Leon, so thank
you, oh very nice, very nice. And Jay Bellow from the band
Chasing the Devil is also in the chat room and said rock with multiple with
multiple exclamation points, so I think he digs what you're doing as well.
Thank you. Yeah, can you kind of so can you kind of fill
us in on the I was reading your bio. I'd love to hear you
kind of take us through the origin story of the band, because it's a
little bit unconventional, and plus you throw in the piece where you've all worked
at WBCN once upon a time. So can you kind of fill us in
deep about how the band got started. Well, yeah, I didn't start
out at bc and it just that's more coincidence. And I guess you know,
it's a small in the world of rock or the scene, be it
New England or local in Boston. It's all it's a small scene. Yeah.
So you know, like our drummer, Jeff used to be in the
band Seventh Rail Crew, which is a pretty big like metal hardcore band out
of the Boston area. He later drum for Genufleck, which was fronted by
Drew from the Van Revley who did odds f Bill Bracken's been in five thousand
bands. He's our guitarist, Jeff Law and drummer. I think I mentioned
that. So he and I were in a Rage of Gusting tribute band called
Age Against This Machine at one point time. I played drums for that,
though I didn't front that band. Okay, and Jimmy Evangelista was kind of
a neck breaker the muscle for the BCN Street Team at one point in time,
and I loosely knew him back then, just you know this linebacker sized
dude in the hallway and say hi, do never knowing he played bass guitar
and lo and behold fast forward many years he's playing bass rouss. The dude
smokes. Great player. Bill Bracken probably arguably and not in my words,
and one of the better guitarists in the New England area maybe beyond. He's
got a trophy case of like shredder competition trophies. He's incredible, nice and
jessic killer drummer. So it started off though, as a studio project.
Bill and I hanging out of his basement drinking whiskey writing songs in the aftermath
of another band we were in called Death Dealer. Thee app like deaf Jam
Records, you know, and we thought it was clever at the time.
Yeah, yeah, And that fizzled out and we started writing our own stuff,
and I was drumming for that old project too, and I started writing
a lot of lyrics for our other vocalists in the span of time. At
one point I'm like, why am I writing vocals and lyrics for someone else?
I should just be the vocalist, right, And it kind of just
happened. So from a studio project. The first album just me and Bill.
I'm playing drums on it and doing vocals. He's playing bass, guitar
and guitar. You start getting all these gig offers, and we decided maybe
we'll put a band together. And now we've just released our fourth albums.
Wow, congratulations. Now the tracks that we're hearing today are they all from
the fourth album? Yeah? So this is actually the first time we've been
signed to a label too, which has been cool. That's Ass of the
Earth Records. They're based out of the Connecticut area. Bands like well,
you know, Scissor Fight. I'm sure they're from right around where you're at.
Yep. Yeah, Scissor Fights on that label. Kings and Liars,
this other band as kind of members of d Snyder his band He's not e
from Twisted Sister. Same Yeah. Uh, Casting Shadows, a bunch of
really cool band's hero in the horror. The Salts of the Earth Records put
out our album just came out of but a month ago. Maybe Sonic Vandalism
I think I said that, and uh, yeah, we're we're just doing
a lot of shows in support of that, right, now album number four,
and we kind of pulled all the stops on it. I definitely feel
I know people will say this, I think it's their best album so far.
We kind of hit our stride. Yeah, Corey Glover. We get
the thumbs up from him of Living Color Fame the tracks, which was huge.
He's one of He's won two Grammys, so that was just a little
surreal to work with him. Yeah, and uh yeah, I just I
think it's a heck of an album in terms of, you know, being
a bit eclectic and hitting our nerdy stride, a lot of bizarre thematic things
in there. Has the Has the sound changed over the years, because obviously,
as you talked about, when you first started out, it was a
studio band with just two of you, and and then and then it grow
from there. Has the sound changed would? I would imagine it's evolved in
some sense. I mean, if you go back, if you go back
the first album, which is a self titled we recorded with Jim Foster,
who is just Fandelphi. Uh yeah, and the first one is a little
angrier and a little more kind of political. I guess, you know,
take whatever message anyway you want it. But it's a little angrier. Yeah,
and uh it's funny. I look back, my voice was a lot
clearer than like, years and years of doing this is to change my speaking
voice. You know, it's a lout raspier. Yeah, so I noticed
that, but uh, it's it's funny. When we first started playing,
we kept getting branded as rap rock, you know, like new metal,
hip hop metal, which I never really felt we were. But there are
a lot of trailer that has kind of a hip hop rhyming hayden or delivery,
so I get it. At the same point. Sure, I just
never liked that term. My damn it, Like there's more, you know,
we're doing more than that, But you know when you get pigeonholed in
on some of the kind of things. But truth be told, I grew
up with a lot of crossover bands like you know, Downset, bio Hazard,
who all employed hip hop elements, So I see where that's coming from.
Yeah, yeah, it was a fair enough assessment. But our more
modern stuff. Sure of some of the verses and stuff, I still like
to to rhyme and all that, but it's a little more songish than it
is verse deliberate hip hop. Do you still play any of the early material
live. Did any of those songs make it into the present iteration of the
band? Yeah, well, yes and no. There's a track it's kind
of become It was our first track ever written. It's kind of become a
fan favorite for like a heavier song. It's called back in the Dirt.
It's basically about like stopping a lazy bump sitting around doing nothing, whining about
it, Like, get up while you still have some life. You know,
you're complaining while other people out there are double amputees fighting cancer. I'd
listened to some of my friends whining and Facebook about their problems, which amounted
it. Basically, it's like stopping a total whining loser. Get out there
and live your life. You know you're lucky enough to be here, right,
And that was our first track. We still play that one, and
it's funny. I told the story to someone recently. You write these songs,
you never you know, you never really, I don't know how to
explain this. And radio was the same way you do your show. You
talk, but you kind of never realize that people are actually listening and taking
it all in sometimes because you're just in a room by yourself doing your thing
right. Some woman came up to me at a show and she told me
that that song in the chorus chorus and she played her repeatedly helped her fight
and get through cancer. I was like, what, Wow, Like I
write these songs like this, never think he's going to reach anyone, especially
in some emotional level, but that like hit me too. I was like,
oh my god. I never would have thought anyone would have received it
or youth the track as such, so it was very flat. But that's
I think the only one. We still work in to defect a lot of
the stuff. I mean, like in any band you're writing new material,
you want to play all the new stuff that it's new, it's fresh,
it'sniting. I mean, we're actually working album five already, but there's you
know, there's one song we play that's a no album. But the new
album, Sonic Vandalism, is still very fresh to us. It's fun to
play these tracks to people who haven't heard of them yet to see how they
come off. And it's been the reception has been very good so far,
excellent. And how did that come about? You signing with AsSalt of the
Earth, Because you know, the music business has changed so much, and
you know, you've got various options in terms of how you want to market
and promote your music, whether you sign with the label, whether you do
it on your own and all that. How did that come about signing with
that label? Truth be total if I was if I had to hand the
blame or the credit to one person. This guy, Dwayne Eldridge, BattleJacket
is his nickname, This guy from Connecticut. I think it was the scene
down there is great and a lot of the bands around this area Central Math
as well. We network and out with all of these bands. This guy
reached out to us. They used to be this club and of all places,
Jewet City, Connecticut, like in the middle of nowhere. I actually
have some family from there. But there was this hole in the walk club
we'd play and the place was awesome, Like people would be so supportive of
bands. They would show up, stay to the end. This guy gave
us a chance, brought us onto some show. It was like a two
room festival thing and he's like, listen, I'll give you guys a chance
on the show. But you're going in the second stage, second room.
On first It's like, oh, craft, I'm like, you got to
figure dudes. Ye, we thought it was gonna be this. You know,
we'll do the show and maybe we'll give us something better next time.
We got there early, there were a ton of people. We sold so
many shirts and CDs. It was incredible. And through that we playing shows
down there, we got to know Scott Harrington and Christy his wife who runs
Salt of the Earth Records. They saw us a bunch of times. They
were fans. They have kids, like very young kids were fans too,
So we just started getting to know them. And at first I didn't even
know he ran a label. Yeah, and it turns out he runs Salt
of the Earth Records. We almost did our last album with him as well,
but he just had too much in his plate. Doing a release from
other friends of ours, Dead by Wednesday, who were playing with Oh Tomorrow
in fact in New Bedford with the band tap Roots and a couple other releases.
Is their fight being one. So that's the long short of it.
Dead by Wednesday, that's the name I haven't heard in a while, but
very familiar with them. Yeah. Oh that's cool. Yeah, well yeah,
they're still around. They put on an album recently. It's awesome.
Oh I'll have to check that out. I'll have to check that out.
I had them years ago when I was booking shows here in Manchester. I
had them up for Oh wow, that was a jeez. I don't even
want to think about how long ago that was now that I'm thinking about it,
but right, you and me, Yeah, it was a long time
ago. So you, guys, I assume you're playing a lot. You're
doing a lot of shows to support the new album. Yeah, we're pretty
I mean we're a pretty busy band. We got some and things have been
getting better and better, fat good. We played not that long ago with
Living Color in Burlington, Vermont. Actually could be playing with them on January
twenty eighth at the Angel City Music Hall. Oh right, in Manchester.
We're opening for a Living Color, which is like home, come on,
like you know again, they want two Grammys. They sold like four million
albums. Yeah, their kick ass. Yeah. And then tomorrow, like
I said, the Vault in New Bedford with our friends and said by Wednesday
and this span Lydia's Castle. It's John Wisaki, the drummer from Stained,
former drummer from Stained, his new band from Nashville and a couple others,
I believe. So that's the Skiller Club, the Vaulton at Bedford, and
we have a big show on the Horizon with Scissor Fight in Vermont and then
down in Rhode Island. We play all over New England quite frequently, a
couple of times a month. Yeah, So it's been good, it's been
consistent, excellent, excellent, and I imagine the live show is pretty high
energy. How long how long do you guys play for? Do you do?
I mean, do you do like a fourpence? I mean some of
these megabills you'll get anywhere from like a thirty minute set to an hour set
usually, Yeah, and on all these like if you have twenty bands and
they're all high energy, you're allowed and fast and aggressive, like there's only
so much the audience could take, I think right, which we're usually I
don't know how to put this. We're usually with a lighter bands, let's
call it, because we'll get built with all these like blast black metal,
death metal bands some of them. Yeah, I love that stuff. Yeah,
but we time and time again we'll get the comment like, oh,
you guys were a welcome pace changer in the set, you know, just
having a very different style, but it's still heavy. There's still I heard
you guys talking about van Halen earlier. There's all these throwback elements too.
Bill Brack and her guitarist, huge van Halen fan. He owns the Eddie
van Halen with the fifty one to fifty whatever guitar that signed like an actual
model from Eddie. He's like obsessed. Oh no kidding. Yeah, So
it's I know what I'm getting at here. But we're definitely a melting pot
of many things in terms of influences and all of us being kind of slightly
different ages too. And what about I'm curious about your drummer. I've noticed
a trend on the show recently when I'm talking to bands. It seems like
everyone's drummer these days is in multiple bands. So I'm curious if Jeff Lawn
l hefe I see his nickname on the webs. Yeah, is he in
like ten other bands or is he does well being a drummer myself, this
is the only band I've ever front that I've played drums and bands forever yeah
so, but yeah, drummers, especially ones that are competent or never mind
ones that are really good, are at high demand. Even more demand are
good bass players. So if you're out there and contemplating playing instruments, pick
up the bass. Like every band needs a good bassis. They're really hard
to find. Everyone plays guitar, Yeah, you have a thousand good guitarists.
There's a couple of great ones and there's a ton of lousy ones.
But Jeff, he does play in another band called the Grizzly Band Band.
Okay, yeah, but in Verter Usuals is, luckily for us, scheduling
kind of his priority, even though he makes good money with that other band,
because they're more like a like cover band, you know, they play
like bar gigs and stuff. They're really good. Yeah. Yeah, but
luckily for us as Allegiance seems to be the majority of it with Inverter excellent.
Oh that's good to hear. And yeah, bass players too, you're
right, I tend to be in high demand. I'm a bass player and
uh geez, I was playing in multiple bands at once back when I uh,
when I used to play, when I was really you know, heavy
in the in the scene. But yeah, I think I think with bass
players as you're right, you know, everyone wants to play guitar. You
get more glory that way, and and I think with with drummers. My
theory has always been that when you're growing up and you first you're getting interested
in playing a musical instrument, well you know because you you are also a
drummer. You know, you got to have that conversation with your parents at
some point about yeah, you know, I want to learn to play play
this or that, And then you got to if you wanted to play drums,
you got to kind of talk them into letting you bring a drum set
into the house. Makes a lot of noise. Yeah, A favorite kids,
not a favorite of parents. When I first started drumming, my parents
basically wouldn't let me until I reached an agreement with them. I said,
listen, if I save it my own money mowing lawns and all those other
craft and shoveling driveways, I can buy my own drum set. And they're
like, okay, if you do that. Sure I did. I've been
playing forever. It's but again, bass players the toughest, the toughest to
find, and we lucked out big time. Jimmy Jimmy Eaves would call me
holds down the low end very nicely. He's a great presence in the stage.
The dude hilarious. I mean, a total team player. You know,
we fee all these bands we've played with over the year, some of
them just be falling apart because they don't get along. They argue over stupid
things, or some one of the bands got a drug problem or whatever.
Luckily, Knocking Wood we've had like no problems and we've been together like seven
or so years. Oh that's good, that's excellent. And by the way,
I was reading in your bios, so you not only did you work
at WBCN, but you were also an HGTV host. Yeah I was.
I did a show called Tiny House Builders O Seas. Oh wow. Yeah,
it was an it was an interesting experience, kind of a nightmare,
to be honest, But what was it really? Why I'm curious. It
was so like tolling physically and like they didn't know what they were doing.
And I told them we need more people, we need more time to build
all these things, and they, you know, it just it was tough,
but it was fun because we had to do some traveling and spend a
ton of their money. And yeah, and I still build a lot of
treehouses and crazy structures, custom build them for people and design them for a
living each workshops about building construction and kind of alternative design all around the US,
even in a couple recently my brother and I in Australia, tas Mania.
I go all over the place doing that stuff. I'm back from my
I've authored several books for a publisher, and one of them, right now,
Let's Do in about a month, is based on treehouses. Oh no,
kidding. Oh, it all comes kind of full circle. If only
I could combine metal in freehouses or whatever, I'd be a happy man.
More. If I could extend the twenty four hour a day to forty eight,
I could get more done. Yeah, I think we all have that
problem. I can relate to that. Oh yeah, no, that's uh,
that's really cool though. So you've written now the books that you've written
about this, I assume it's under the name Derek Didrickson or I don't know
if you Yeah, I go but yeah, you know, like even in
the building design scene, I go by deep. I have a help of
YouTube channels, one of which is you know, fairly large. I got
about two hundred and thirty thousand subscribers. And so I do like ten or
eleven things that all culminate as a job and a half for a living.
But they're all like, yeah, hobby jobs. Let's call them stuff I
love doing. Anyway. I do a lot of custom artwork and design,
and I have an Instagram page, oh, which is just dejos and art
I just started for all my like graffiti and artwork stuff like that. When
we play live, we get a couple of stage propts we use that are
kind of street art. I've done these big stand up creature things. Oh
wow. Yeah, some people have compared to White Zombie. That's another one.
I'm talking about dance metal and groove and all that, and truth be
told. When Las Extasys from White Zombie came out, I ate that album
up. I just loved it. So even the artwork tie, and I'm
like, okay, it's fair enough. You know Static x White Zombie.
Those are frequent comparisons. Yeah, yeah, that's those are you know you'll
take those, right, I mean those are that puts you in good compo.
Yeah, that puts you in very good companies. They're both bands again,
to use the term over and over, they both have groove. They
have that, you know, that locker like you know, band like Pantera
wasn't just about thrash beats, baby paul and drums really had they grooved the
thing. That's why I love them. And I think they did well with
big beats and Jeff brings that every time, so it works out nicely.
And by the way, so what did you what did you do at WBCN.
Were you an on air personality or yeah, so I was from seven
to midnight. I was just on air DJ for about seven years. Yeah,
yeah, and it was it was fun. I mean I didn't grow
up in the area, so it's one of those like, oh my god,
you worked at WBCN. I named fewer remember now since they're gone.
Sure, but it's like having not grown up here, it wasn't as big
a thing to me, But you know, later I quickly realized how important
that safety was the Boston, how legendary it was. It broke you too,
They broke the cars. You know, quite a few big bands that
really helped at the drop Kick Murphy's and on and on. And it was
fun. I mean I got to interview everyone from like James Hatfield to you
know, the guys in Green Day to you know you in that era from
the late nineties to about two thousand and six, any band that came out
then, I probably interviewed Oh Wow, oh and Tapro who were playing with
It's funny. I interviewed them about three or four times. I know,
at least ahead of time. We haven't played with them yet. I know
they're at least very nice guys. Oh that's cool, that's cool, very
good, very good. Uh wow, you got a lot going on.
That's Uh, that's fantastic. But uh really really glad to see. Like
I said, I love the tunes. I think what you're doing is amazing
and definitely want to thank you. Definitely want to catch you. Uh catch
you live in the future and oh by me, let us know, man,
let us know, Yeah, definitely. By the way, what does
the name mean? Is there any meaning behind the name Inverter Now? A
lot of people ask that, and uh, I could give you stories among
stories upon the song of the name. Uh. Anytime you're in a band,
and you've been in band, like to come up with a name.
It just sometimes comes down to something that sounds cool. Yeah, I want
something that had a little bit of a technical nerdy, almost industrial edge,
you know, Inverter being like a solar, you know, inverter, you
know, in electronics, wiring stuff like that. Yeah, and uh,
it's just easy enough to remember. And it was the only and I mean
the only name that all four of us didn't hate. Oh no kidding,
Yeah, there were a lot. I can't remember some of the names now,
there were so many. Actually just two of us. It was Bill
and I excuse me because at the time there really was no band, the
first seed. He was just two of us. Oh yeah, but him
and I had completely different ideas and song names, and it came down to
Inverter. It's kind of that hard continent edge. Yeah, you know,
it almost sounds German, sharp edged word. Yeah, that's basically. I
wish there was some really I should make up some cooler story, but that's
all it is. Yeah. Yeah, no, it's cool. I like
it. It's uh, it's definitely a good name. Well, Deeke,
we're gonna let you go in a minute, and I'm gonna play uh after
we let you go, I'm gonna play next Stone Cold Shocker, that's my
personal favorite of the ones that you sent us. And then we'll we'll play
a third track, of course, at the end of the show today.
But yeah, yeah, not that. Oh sorry, go ahead, sorry
say not that bands released, so to speak, singles anymore. But that's
kind of the song we're gonna work in a video for soon and all.
Its kind of like the single, you know, if a label were to
send it out out the one song. Yeah, and it's the song that
everybody when we played it live before the album was out, everybody caught on
to that chorus really quickly. Yeah, that's how we kind of do like,
oh, this is a song. Those are my attack dogs. Don't
mind that. I was gonna say, are you all right? It sounded
like something sounds like something just tried to devour you. Yeah. Yeah,
someone's arriving at the house and I got a couple of dogs who are quite
loud. Oh I see, yeah, no worries. Yeah, I do
love this track. So so we're gonna play this in a second and then,
so do you want to just remind us too about the show that you've
got coming up? The show with Taproot is that this weekend? Yeah,
it's tomorrow. Actually it's a Thursday show. Taboot's playing at the Vault in
New Bedford. Oh yeah, yeah, and Lydia's Castle and I think that
same tour. The next night's coming up to Walls in New Hampshire near you
guys, but anyone who's in between come down to the Vault one. Yeah,
we're going out. It's once. It like weekday show, so it
starts on the earlier side. I think one up seven. We're like the
maybe the second band on earlier, but we'll be doing our thing and going
full throttle. And the Vault in the Bedford's an amazing club. It's it's
a former like back in the days of fancy banks with the big ball from
marble floors and chandeliers. They took a huge city bank and converted it into
a club. Oh that's cool. One of my favorite venues. We haven't
played in a while. And tap Root's awesome. So yeah, that's tomorrow.
I believe doors at seven and we're we're on like shortly or doors at
six thirty one or like seven fifteen or something. Okay, okay, very
good and also too before you go deec just so our listeners know where's the
best place to go to find you online in terms of a webs or social

been great and I'm sure we'll talk again soon. Thank you, man,
I appreciate it so much. Take care now, all right, you got

very familiar with with Wally's there and the summer there. That's right, all
right. Well, let's like I said, this is my favorite track,
and apparently from what Dike was saying, uh, this is everybody's favorite track,
so let's give this a listen and then we'll come back with some more
show. Uh. This is the track is called Stone Cold Shocker. The
band is Inverter. Check this out. Now that a woman's not gonna hang

It's a different vibe from me other than that coming from the club scene.
Jay Fed says in the chat room, he must be so tired.
I'm exhausted. You do work hard, you do absolutely absolutely well, absolutely
absolutely Hey, by the way, Uh, you know how you see a
lot of you see a lot of clickbait online, right, you know?
You see like YouTube videos with misleading titles, things like that. There's this
website, Radar Online. Are you familiar with them? I think it's just
Radar Online. They post a lot of articles, and I feel like they
used to be a little more. I don't know legit, but they they
post these clickbait articles that show up every time I open up my uh my
Lenovo, my idea pad computer here, and I open up Chrome, I
see MSN dot com pops up and they've got these stories from Radar Online.
And today I open it up and I see, I see this. This
is the headline. Vladimir Putin's death is being celebrated by his former cronies.
Kremlin source says, Now, if you don't know any better, any better,
you would read that and think, oh, my goodness, Vladimir Putin's
dead. Except he's not. But this is the kind of thing they publish
now, and it's just, uh, I wonder how many people fall for
this, because you know, people believe a lot of things true, but
this is what. So this is the article here from Radar Online. It
says a Kremlin source claimed that the death of Vladimir Putin was considered quote the
beginning of something new and good unquote by his top allies. Radar online dot
com has learned telegram channel General SVR, which is believed to be run by
a Kremlin insider, alleged in a previous post that Putin, seventy one,
died last week at his residence after suffering a heart attack. The telegram channel
has closely followed Putin's rumored terminal illnesses within the last two weeks. The channel
has claimed that Putin was in his final days and his top cronies were organizing
a succession plan amid his imminent death. I inadvertently said secession. I must
be I must have Dave Ridley disease succession plan. The channel's recent claims force
putin a spokesperson, Dmitri Peskov, to not only denounce the allegations, but
acknowledge rumors about the despot's death. I'm sorry his health. While Peskov branded
the channel's claims as end quote absurd information unquote, the same insider has now
alleged that allies like Peskov are optimistic about Putin's death, I would be the
General SVR account posted quote. Those around the president are no longer very worried
and even consider Putin's death to be the beginning of something new and good.
Many are tired of the constantly prevailing theme of war and sanctions and started talking
about the possibility of peace negotiations, but of course on favorable terms, which
they cannot yet clearly formulate. In any case, the movement began and the
big political season began. Unquote. The same source previously claimed that Putin's remains
it's just funny because it's it's it's it's all made up. But this is
reported as regular telegram chow. Yeah. Yeah. The same source previously claimed
that Putin's remains were being closely guarded and remained at the residents where he allegedly
died. In addition to reporting on Putin's health, General LESVR also accused the
Kremlin of using body doubles in the Russian president's place. The understudy was even
said to have carried out official business and held phone calls with global leaders.
It's right out of a movie. After Putin allegedly had to be resuscitated after
suffering a heart attack, His cronies reportedly formed a nightly round table nightly with
a k to discuss and select a successor. Options for the future leader of
Russia were reportedly narrowed down to a handful of men, including Chechen leader Ramzen
Katariov. I don't know if I'm saying that correctly. Russia's Secretary of Security
Council Nikolai Patrushev. Patrushev is believed to be the current official calling the shots
in the wake of Putin's rumored death. While Russia has repeatedly denied that Putin
is suffering any ailments, several of his upcoming appearances were abruptly canceled, adding
to mystery surrounding the Telegram Channel's claims. I'm assuming they just uh well,
I don't know if there's any mystery. I think that you know, they
just made made that up to get clicks. But uh, yes, as
far as far as we know, Putin is not dead. And listen,
I'm not one to root for anyone's death, certainly, but uh, I
would not shed any tears for Vladimir Putin, certainly. I don't. I
don't think any of us would one other Uh, just quick thing here because
we're running out of time. Let me give the studio line one more time
if anyone wants to chime in on anything. Uh, but time is short.
Six O three two five six seven is a studio line six three two

copyright. But but we do love it when when people hang out with us
in the Facebook live chat. Speaking of copyright, I heard R and B.
That's all I heard. That's all you heard. I've mentioned a bunch
of things. I love R and B. Oh good good. Have you
been following this with Spotify? You know, we have a lot of musicians
on the show who I'm sure I stand by and always have. Why do
you say that, look what they're doing right now? Ah? Yes,
Well I have something here from Forbes If you don't know, Spotify's royalty model
tries to keep up with the rapid rise of new music and apparently they're coming
for your royalties, my friends, if you are on Spotify, says here.
Spotify will change its royalty payout model by early next year to include a
minimum threshold of streams for a song to qualify for royalty payments. So if
you're waiting to get that nickel from Spotify, you might not be able to
penalties for streaming fraud and restrictions on royalty payments for short quote unquote noise tracks.
As first reported by Music Business Worldwide, these changes are indicative of tectonic
shifts in the music industry today and point the way to the future for streaming
music services. These changes will arise from one simple fact. The big streaming
platforms have made it easier than ever for anyone to release music, and as
a result of that in various other factors, the volume of music submit admitted
to Spotify and its competitors worldwide is unimaginably high and accelerating. This is interesting.
At this writing, more than one hundred twenty thousand new tracks are uploaded
to streaming services every day. To put that number in perspective, the total
number of albums released per year in the nineteen eighties, during the era of
CDs and cassettes was a few thousand. That's three orders of magnitude less than
today. The number is only going to grow faster. For example, generative
AI represents the latest in a series of technology driven inflection points that have driven
the pace of released meat music upward, including four track home cassette recorders in
the nineteen eighties and B three file sharing in the nineteen nineties, and independent
digital distributors such as tunecore starting in the two thousands. Generative AI platforms can
churn out songs at a daggering rate. Music AI startup Mubert announced that its
library of AI generated tracks included fifty six million that were generated by its human
users. Another music AI company, Boomy, claims that its users have generated
almost eighteen million songs. That's yeah at this time of writing. In contrast,
Spotify's entire library is over one hundred million tracks, while YouTube's is likely
several times that amount. At the current pace, these libraries should grow at
at least forty percent in the coming year. It makes less and less sense
for streaming music services like Spotify to keep on accepting this much music. The
sheer glot makes it more difficult for fans to discover new music that they'd like
and for new artists to find fans. Though the audience for streaming music continues
to grow, the proportion of newly released music that people listen to is shrinking.
Illuminate Data found in twenty twenty two that the total consumption of catalog music
catalog defined as at least eighteen months old, grew by thirteen percent from twenty
twenty one to twenty two, while consumption of current releases stayed flat. It
also found that forty two percent of tracks on global streaming platforms had ten or
fewer streams Wow, while twenty four percent had no streams at all. Now
that's interesting. So that means so twenty four percent of that catalog is sitting
there no one, literally no one is listening to that's interesting. This situation
helps no one except big established stars. New artists chances of exposure are diminishing,
and the dream of getting a breakout hit is becoming more and more like
the dream of winning the Powerball. The major labels are complaining that they have
to compete with a glut of quote, lower quality, functional content that in
some cases can bear early pass for music royalty pies have to be sliced up
in smaller and smaller micro increments, leaving average musicians less and less able to
earn reasonable incomes from streaming. For the streaming services themselves, the cost of
storing and managing all that data mount up, and the tasks of identifying rights
holders and processing royalties continue to become more onerous and expensive. And the catalogs
that all of the streaming services maintain in any given country are almost entirely identical.
The situation is unsustainable. After two decades of accepting virtually all music submitted
to them, streaming services will inevitably become more selective about the content they accept.
The big question, the question that will define the next phase of music
delivery, is how different services are bound to arrive at different answers. A
sum of Spotify's forthcoming changes address this issue, even if obliquely, music I'm
sorry. Most obvious the Spotify's decision not to pay any royalties on tracks that
don't reach a minimum, as yet unspecified threshold of plays, although Spotify claims
this will only affect tracks to generate less than five cents per month. Well,
okay, oh, I called it. I said they won't give you
that nickel. The upshot will be to demonetize tracks that are generated in bulk
by automated methods, as well as those that are uploaded by non professional musicians.
This move will discourage some entities from uploading so much music and perhaps make
inroads into that forty two percent of tracks that have zero or very few plays
that are overhaul that are overheard. For Spotify, it will lower Spotify's cost
of data management, et cetera. I'm going to skip down a little bit.
The major labels will also like Spotify's increased focus on streaming fraud prevention.
Streaming fraud encompasses several ways of generating unearned royalties on streaming platforms. One technique
is to run botnets of machines out of Greensboro, North Carolina that play the
same songs over and over. I added the Greensboro part. Another is to
use identity theft to generate false plays under real users' names. Yet another is
to upload famous artists material as if it's your own, whatever the technique.
Spotify is tools for detecting streaming fraud and intends to issue financial penalties against those
who engage in it. Kind of skipping down a little bit here, but
yeah, there's more to this article, but all of a sudden, you
know, it's funny though, So I didn't pre read that, and I
came into that subject with this idea in my head. Oh, Spotify is
looking to screw everybody over, as if they don't already by barely paying anybody
anything. But now it's like, I'm starting to realize that this is this
is a legitimate problem. And I have wondered about this, like, at
what point is there just too much music? And now with AI generated music,
I know YouTube has kind of dealt with this in terms of I don't
know if music specifically, but I was reading recently about how there's YouTubers now
who are are creating these AI generated videos and they'll create like like hundreds of
them all at once and then just upload them all at once to bulk up
their channel. But YouTube is wise to it, and if they see that,
they'll actually nuclear channel. They don't want that. They don't want like
poorly made you know, five minutes. You know, if they see like
you're uploading, you know, two hundred YouTube videos all at once and they're
all five minutes long, you know, and they all have cheap animation or
whatever. You know, then they'll they'll actually delete your channel over that.
You could you could you could be monetized in making money on YouTube and totally
screw yourself doing that. But it's amazing to me too that people actually attempt
that kind of fraud with Spotify, like uploading somebody else's music and like a
famous person's music and a remix, which Spotify is super fucked. Sorry,
I mean I just you didn't quite but yeah, Spotify is very very big,
like big against that. Yeah, that's why you don't see DJs making
mixes on there. And you see the one SoundCloud, right, Yeah,
SoundCloud seems like the wild West when it comes. There is a way to
get around a lot on SoundCloud. Yeah, because uh, I see I
see stuff on uh not really recently, I haven't looked, but in the
past I've seen stuff on SoundCloud and it's like, how do how do people
get away with this? Like they like, you know this, this guy
just takes a famous song and just you know, throws a few bars of
his own, uh his own wrap over part of it and calls it his
own. It's like, wow, DJ is what you can do? Is
the first thirty seconds or what they really listen to. So you can pa
like a thirty second intro you can do or you can speed it up by
half, like half a beat per minute. Oh I've heard of doing that.
Yes, yes, so you can do that or what I know a
lot of like remixers do so they don't get like someone doesn't steal their track
or whatever. They will put like two minutes of just straight white noise over
it and then go into the remix a interesting beating the system. Yep,
well we are we are out of time. We cannot beat time. Father
Time is undefeated. It's only five fifty four. Yeah, but we got
