Speaker 17: Cosmic Blossom live in studio with us, and we're gonna
Speaker 17: go ahead and play this brand new studio track. This
Speaker 17: is called Halfway There, and then we're gonna talk with
Speaker 17: Cosmic Blossoms. So there is plenty more to come. Don't
Speaker 17: go anywhere, whoop there there will be I just gotta
Speaker 17: make sure this track is ready. Let me try that again.
Speaker 17: Here we go halfway there.

Speaker 8: I could be in that painting. You know sometimes you'll
Speaker 8: see me rolling my eyes. Don't underestimate yourself.
Speaker 25: You're the fries.

Speaker 5: wi my.
Speaker 4: B you gotta beat.
Speaker 28: Well.
Speaker 6: I like the ending on that too. That is so cool.
Speaker 17: Hey, everybody, if you're just joining us, we have Cosmic
Speaker 17: Blossom here with us alive in studio. They displayed a
Speaker 17: few tracks and we opened the show, uh with a
Speaker 17: new song too. But that is the newest right, that
Speaker 17: is halfway there from Cosmic Blossom. And of course, uh,
Speaker 17: Gary is here, Gary Smith?
Speaker 6: Who is in Gary? How many bands are you have now?
Speaker 6: Can you even put a number on there?
Speaker 29: Yeah, I mean I'm probably in like six or seven?
Speaker 6: Oh? Is that all?
Speaker 23: Yeah?
Speaker 29: Probably?
Speaker 30: You do a lot.
Speaker 17: You do a lot of stuff, But I always say,
Speaker 17: you're one of the You're one of the most talented
Speaker 17: and busiest musicians I know in the area.
Speaker 6: So we also have so we'll we'll go around here.
Speaker 17: So we have Ryan here on drums and sounding great
Speaker 17: your first time on the show, so appreciate having here,
Speaker 17: and uh and Meg of course I love the vocal
Speaker 17: on that last song that y'all played.
Speaker 6: That was really cool. And you're in Dog a Dog
Speaker 6: as well. Yeah, we'll be on at eleven. Yeah, yeah,
Speaker 6: so that's that's gonna be awesome. Yeah. When you walked in,
Speaker 6: I was like, oh, wait, she's on the other band,
Speaker 6: and uh, let's see and we have Nick. Welcome's up, guys,
Speaker 6: and uh you now let me ask you this.
Speaker 17: So are the four of you like because we in fact,
Speaker 17: I asked before the show, do I introduce you as
Speaker 17: Cosmic Blossom or Cosmic Blossom Collective because it seems like
Speaker 17: there's like, is there a core band and then sort
Speaker 17: of ancillary people who are the collective?
Speaker 6: Or how does how how is this all working?
Speaker 31: Sure, So there's there's like I would say, probably like
Speaker 31: eight of us that are like the core group members. Okay,
Speaker 31: you know, we kind of split that up into like
Speaker 31: two little subgroups that like write songs like on their own,
Speaker 31: and then we kind of bring it to the larger group.
Speaker 31: Oh and then we have other musicians that are in
Speaker 31: the scene that kind of join on, you know, like
Speaker 31: horn players and stuff like that whenever we have like
Speaker 31: bigger gigs. But yeah, for the most part, we kind
Speaker 31: of stick to the core group of like eight of us.
Speaker 6: Yeah, gotcha, gotcha. Wow.
Speaker 17: So so that that core configuration of eight, So what
Speaker 17: do you have covered in terms of instruments or is
Speaker 17: it a lot of singers or how does how does?
Speaker 17: Like I guess what I'm really asking is who are
Speaker 17: the other four of the eight?
Speaker 31: Sure? Yeah, absolutely, I would say the other four. Well,
Speaker 31: we have brad to Palm on guitar. You couldn't be
Speaker 31: here today, but he's the guy that I started this
Speaker 31: with lead guitar. We have Jimmy on keys, he's fantastic,
Speaker 31: Chuck on bass, we love Chuck and Anthony on drums,
Speaker 31: he's the other drummer that we have. I'd say that.
Speaker 31: And then we have singers on top of that too,
Speaker 31: you know, Amanda Vantayne, Sarah Bird, she's also when dog
Speaker 31: Eate Dogs, She'll be here a little bit later, okay,
Speaker 31: and you know, just too many people to name off
Speaker 31: off the rip out the rest of that.
Speaker 6: Yeah, is it?
Speaker 17: Is it challenging to manage all that in terms of
Speaker 17: playing live shows and figuring out who's available for what
Speaker 17: or or maybe it's maybe it makes it easier in
Speaker 17: some ways because you can kind of change up the
Speaker 17: configuration of the songs on the fly depending on who's there.
Speaker 6: I mean, what is that like what is that dynamic?
Speaker 29: Like, well, that's one of it.
Speaker 32: And definitely with like like there's a where or you
Speaker 32: guys are playing on March twenty first, I already had
Speaker 32: a gig. But you know, it's it's simple enough where
Speaker 32: we have like two drummers too, bassis and we're all
Speaker 32: cross trained, so we can kind of, yeah, if one
Speaker 32: of us can make it, we can still kind of
Speaker 32: make make the gigs work.
Speaker 29: Yeah, which is nice. But again, we tend to play
Speaker 29: like bigger, bigger shows.
Speaker 32: We're not doing a lot of smaller stuff, so it's
Speaker 32: usually make it worth it, I would say, are the shows.
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, no, that makes sense.
Speaker 31: Yeah, with with smaller gigs and stuff, we'll usually stick
Speaker 31: to like a smaller group of us, you know, what
Speaker 31: I mean, Like, if we're just playing like a club
Speaker 31: downtown like say Lowell or something like that, you know
Speaker 31: we'll have probably just like the eight of us covered
Speaker 31: that we're playing like a bigger festival over the summer,
Speaker 31: we'll probably have we'll break out all the stops for that,
Speaker 31: so we'll have all what fifteen of us on stage
Speaker 31: or something like that. Yeah, at one time, and you know,
Speaker 31: people kind of jump in and out per song. It's
Speaker 31: not everybody's on the stage all at once. Everybody kind
Speaker 31: of just floats in and out as the songs kind
Speaker 31: of come okay. And yeah, like Gary said, having two
Speaker 31: of everything is really helpful. So if one person can't
Speaker 31: make it, someone can cover the entire base for one show.
Speaker 6: That it's like a Noah's Ark thing. You got two
Speaker 6: of Uh.
Speaker 31: I didn't look at it like that before.
Speaker 6: Yeah, No, that makes sense. So that that's so that's
Speaker 6: smart to do it that way. That totally makes sense.
Speaker 33: I like it.
Speaker 29: I like it.
Speaker 17: What is so do you know what, like, what is
Speaker 17: the maximum number of people you've had on stage at
Speaker 17: once for a Cosmic Blossom set.
Speaker 31: We have on for worm Town?
Speaker 29: Yeah?
Speaker 32: Once that was probably like with the horn players and stuff.
Speaker 32: That's probably like twelve or thirteen out Wow, yeah.
Speaker 31: Thirteen of us probably on it once.
Speaker 6: Yeah, and what's the minimum, like, what is the small.
Speaker 31: The smallest we had was four. Yeah, and it's it's
Speaker 31: cool because we'll start with four, like for our last
Speaker 31: festival we played at Wormtown, we start with four, and
Speaker 31: then we add one person, and then we add another
Speaker 31: person and its just like grows to like the end
Speaker 31: of the show, all thirteen of us are on stage,
Speaker 31: all at once, so.
Speaker 6: So it blossoms.
Speaker 31: Yeah, yeah, this guy's good your marketing, I got all.
Speaker 31: I want to be part of this. You want to
Speaker 31: join us?
Speaker 2: Dude?
Speaker 29: You guys remember sixteen?
Speaker 6: Yeah you know it's up. Yeah, Oh that's no. That's
Speaker 6: cool though.
Speaker 17: Now now when you so, how does that affect how
Speaker 17: you approach recording? Because you've got like we featured, uh
Speaker 17: that great studio track we opened with and we just
Speaker 17: played halfway there?
Speaker 6: How do how does that get figured out? Who's going to?
Speaker 17: Uh? I mean, do you try to get all fifteen
Speaker 17: people on a track or probably not, I wouldn't think.
Speaker 32: But yeah, I mean we uh we again try and
Speaker 32: kind of get a scratch track, you know, we use
Speaker 32: the well recently started using Pete, who I've used all
Speaker 32: for my Procrest Maintenance and Fox and flamingcos. So, like
Speaker 32: we kind of just lay the scratch track down with
Speaker 32: the four or five of us, and then the girls
Speaker 32: will come add the vocals after the fact and we.
Speaker 29: Try and get as many people on it.
Speaker 32: Obviously sometimes it doesn't always work out, but yeah, I mean, ultimately,
Speaker 32: you know, everyone, like I said, everyone can play everything,
Speaker 32: so that's half the battle. But yeah, recording wise, we
Speaker 32: it's pretty efficient. Like last song, we pretty much had
Speaker 32: it done in two days over the course of a week.
Speaker 32: We're recording again on March twenty eighth, recording our next song.
Speaker 31: Excellent, first one we play it here, take your time, Yeah.
Speaker 32: To take your time, the one that we played solo,
Speaker 32: the first one, the acoustic one, So that's going to
Speaker 32: be recorded, uh, excellent down to Pete.
Speaker 29: So that yeah, and then we're working on a bunch
Speaker 29: of other stuff too.
Speaker 6: Is there a studio recording of the last one that
Speaker 6: you played that you sang on Meg not yet? No,
Speaker 6: I love that song, Oh right, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 8: Yeah, we do. Me and Amanda Vanteene do that one together.
Speaker 8: Usually kind of like a girl power song kind of stuff.
Speaker 18: But yeah, we're hoping on recording that soon.
Speaker 6: Too cool. Cool.
Speaker 17: Yeah, No, that's that's really good. So there Now is
Speaker 17: there an album or is there just singles for Cosmic
Speaker 17: Blossom up to now?
Speaker 31: I don't so right now, we just have I think
Speaker 31: what eight and that was over the course of like,
Speaker 31: you know, this has progressed in a crazy way that
Speaker 31: we've had even other members that have you know, like
Speaker 31: come and gone, and so we over the course of
Speaker 31: the last you know, two or three years, we've probably
Speaker 31: put out about eight singles. We're gearing up now to
Speaker 31: get like a full length album, probably about like fourteen songs.
Speaker 31: Oh on, one big album, and we hope to get
Speaker 31: that like pressed on the vinyl and stuff by the
Speaker 31: end of the summer. That's kind of nice. We're in
Speaker 31: the process of getting everything recorded and polished up now
Speaker 31: for that.
Speaker 6: Oh very cool.
Speaker 17: Yeah, that'll be good. It's cool that you're gonna do vinyl.
Speaker 17: A lot of people are doing vinyl now, that's awesome.
Speaker 6: Yeah.
Speaker 31: He just pressed vinyl for his Percussive Maintenance album.
Speaker 8: Oh you did?
Speaker 31: Yeah, okay, one of those too cool?
Speaker 6: Outstanding.
Speaker 17: Well, I don't know, if you all notice and Gary,
Speaker 17: you've obviously been here before, but not I'm been here
Speaker 17: in a little while.
Speaker 31: We have a record player now, yeah, absolutely spend your
Speaker 31: vinyl on that.
Speaker 29: Yeah, right, Yeah.
Speaker 17: One of the guys, this belongs to Ryan Sherman, the erminator.
Speaker 17: He does a show here, a music show.
Speaker 6: But he brought this in. I know that guy, you
Speaker 6: know him.
Speaker 17: Yeah, he brought this in and he said anybody can
Speaker 17: use it, so we can. We can always plug it
Speaker 17: in and spend something on there. Sick my theory about
Speaker 17: you know, people who buy vinyl at this point, you know,
Speaker 17: unless they're they're buying you know, used vinyl, you know,
Speaker 17: like classic rock stuff. But I think when people buy
Speaker 17: brand new vinyl, most of the time they probably never
Speaker 17: even open it, or if they do open it, they
Speaker 17: never play it.
Speaker 6: Because it's just something that's cool to have.
Speaker 31: It's a collective piece. Yeah, absolutely, Yeah, It's not the
Speaker 31: only way that we listen to music to anymore. So
Speaker 31: that's more of a it's more of a novelty to
Speaker 31: have for sure.
Speaker 6: Yeah, it's cool to have it. You know, you can
Speaker 6: mount it on the wall, do whatever with it.
Speaker 17: But but yeah, but we do have the capability to
Speaker 17: play vinyl, and we also have a we actually have
Speaker 17: a CD player here too. I don't even have a
Speaker 17: CD player at home anymore, but we do have a
Speaker 17: CD player here. I think I think Rob as a
Speaker 17: Veto from Granted State of Mind is the only one
Speaker 17: who actually uses it, but we do have one here,
Speaker 17: so we have that capability as well. But it's nice
Speaker 17: to live in a digital age.
Speaker 6: But no, that's cool. You're in a new vinyl that's awesome.
Speaker 31: Yeah, yeah, very nice to have for the summer. Absolutely.
Speaker 17: How long has Cosmic Blossom existed. It's been a number
Speaker 17: of years, right, but it sounds like it's changed a lot.
Speaker 17: It's it's morphed and grown.
Speaker 31: And absolutely yeah, I would say that me and Brad
Speaker 31: started this in twenty twenty when everything kind of shut down.
Speaker 31: We kind of just met up with our buddy Brian
Speaker 31: Lambers a lot. He's a core member of this took.
Speaker 31: He helps us a lot with our production and stuff.
Speaker 31: He's awesome. So we just met up with him and
Speaker 31: just like us three just started writing the original songs
Speaker 31: that we had for this. Later on we picked up
Speaker 31: drums and bass with Axel and Alfredo. Yeah, and then
Speaker 31: right after that we picked up Amanda Vantayne as like
Speaker 31: our lead singer, and then like just from there once
Speaker 31: that happened, like people started joining left and right, and okay,
Speaker 31: it just became what it became after that.
Speaker 28: Yeah.
Speaker 31: Yeah, it kind of grew naturally too. It's not like,
Speaker 31: you know, we really actually planned for that. We kind
Speaker 31: of planned on being a band at first, and then
Speaker 31: just so many people just ended up coming through that
Speaker 31: were like, all right, let's see if we can make
Speaker 31: that like a trend. And yeah, it's been a lot,
Speaker 31: but it's been working for us. It's been really cool.
Speaker 17: Was there any was there any kind of resistance to
Speaker 17: that initially within the band? Like do we want to
Speaker 17: just let people sort of join or did you just
Speaker 17: did you just go with it instinctively? Like no, this
Speaker 17: is cool just if people want to become a part.
Speaker 31: Of it, honestly, And I'm so proud of this. Everybody
Speaker 31: who's joined this has been so like okay with making
Speaker 31: sure that everybody has their time in the spotlight. You know,
Speaker 31: we're really good about sharing it and making it as
Speaker 31: much of a collaboration as possible.
Speaker 6: That's really cool. Yeah, I admire that a lot that's
Speaker 6: that's excellent, that's excellent. And then what do you have
Speaker 6: coming up? Do you have any shows this weekend that
Speaker 6: you're playing or what's what's kind of.
Speaker 32: Next for a Cosmic Nicker You're playing a Henniker Brewery
Speaker 32: March twenty first, Yeah, and then uh, we just when
Speaker 32: we were playing Warping Weft, Yeah with Fox and excellent
Speaker 32: low Yeah.
Speaker 29: On April tenth, uh and then Grange Creek.
Speaker 33: Yeah.
Speaker 31: I'd say our biggest show that we're excited for is
Speaker 31: we're playing the Capital Center for the Arts the Bank
Speaker 31: in New Hampshire stage up Conquered.
Speaker 6: Were you're doing that? Kevin Haran Yeah, Kevin Hornan, Yeah, yeah,
Speaker 6: he's been on the show. Yeah, Yeah, it's great.
Speaker 29: We're playing bass in his band.
Speaker 32: So I brought I brought Cosmic Well, of course you are, ye,
Speaker 32: but yeah, that's that should be as that would be
Speaker 32: a really cool Yeah.
Speaker 6: Is that throughout NH Music Collective?
Speaker 15: No?
Speaker 6: No, no, no, oh cool, very nice, very nice? Yeah.
Speaker 6: How many like how many songs does Cosmic Blossom have
Speaker 6: at this point?
Speaker 17: That because obviously you know, you've got songs that everybody,
Speaker 17: like everybody who's a part of it knows right, So
Speaker 17: does that you have a lot?
Speaker 31: Yeah, Oh my gosh. Yeah, So we probably have about
Speaker 31: like ten that we've like retired, is what we call it,
Speaker 31: ones we don't really play anymore. Okay, we have probably
Speaker 31: like eight right now that are in our like what
Speaker 31: we call our set, which we'll bring to anywhere, and
Speaker 31: then we're we've got probably about four more that we're writing,
Speaker 31: and then maybe even like two or three acoustic songs
Speaker 31: on top of that, So we have we have a lot.
Speaker 31: We've got about twenty twenty or twenty five oh that
Speaker 31: we've that we've got floating around.
Speaker 6: Oh that's great. Yeah, with that many, is it hard
Speaker 6: to write us out list?
Speaker 17: If you're in a situation where like say you've got
Speaker 17: an hour of time to fill, obviously you can't play
Speaker 17: all of those.
Speaker 31: Yeah, it was.
Speaker 6: It difficult to decide with that much material.
Speaker 31: Honestly, the biggest part of it is like who's there?
Speaker 31: You know, oh that makes there and who knows so,
Speaker 31: and then I may kind of create a set list
Speaker 31: based upon who shows up. We've spent a lot of
Speaker 31: time making sure that everybody knows a little bit of everything,
Speaker 31: but still it kind of we kind of run into
Speaker 31: that sometimes, so we gear our sets on on who's
Speaker 31: there and who's ready to show up that day.
Speaker 6: Ye, that makes sense. That makes sense.
Speaker 17: So now where where should people go online to keep
Speaker 17: up with everything that Cosmic Blossom is doing and the
Speaker 17: music that you have out and and I assume this
Speaker 17: is all on Spotify everything that Yeah released so far,
Speaker 17: including including I know this is pot off the press halfway.
Speaker 6: There is that on Spotify as well?
Speaker 31: Oh yeah, yeah, absolutely, yeah, I went up a few
Speaker 31: weeks ago. That's on all major streaming platforms. We're on
Speaker 31: all all the singles that we have are on all
Speaker 31: major streaming platforms. You can go to our website Cosmic Block,
Speaker 31: the Cosmic Blossom Collective dot com. You can find us
Speaker 31: on Facebook, Instagram, all that reach us to reach out
Speaker 31: to us there and we'll we'll talk to you that way.
Speaker 6: Yeah.
Speaker 17: Yeah, outstanding And who is so other than other than
Speaker 17: Gary is and of course Meg you have Dog a
Speaker 17: Dog and Ryan do you have other projects that you
Speaker 17: play in as well?
Speaker 6: Or well?
Speaker 29: Idly enough, I'm in another project carry.
Speaker 6: I found that shocking.
Speaker 29: I know, it's like ye met him and Bob Dwire
Speaker 29: are RGB trio. Yeah, you know Bob's been on the show. Yeah, yeah,
Speaker 29: you know, and you guys from you guys have known.
Speaker 17: Yeah yeah, actually now to mention it, yeah yeah yeah,
Speaker 17: what was so that's RBG Trio is RGB RGB trip. Sorry,
Speaker 17: I think I'm suffering from adult on set to sle Okay,
Speaker 17: very cool? And then uh and what about you Nick?
Speaker 31: You might do you have other stuff that you've got
Speaker 31: going to my original band that I formed with Brad
Speaker 31: the the Core group. There we are in a band
Speaker 31: called earth Mark, and we're more of like a progressive
Speaker 31: rock kind of group. And yeah, we've been around for
Speaker 31: a little while. Okay, okay, god, we've been playing around
Speaker 31: for like twelve years now.
Speaker 6: Earthmark is a very prog rock name. Yeah.
Speaker 31: Actually I didn't even know how we came up with that.
Speaker 31: It's cool.
Speaker 6: Well I like it. I like it a lot. Yeah, yeah,
Speaker 6: that's that's very cool. Well, we got a We're approaching
Speaker 6: the top of the hour, so we should be get
Speaker 6: to wrap up. But thank you all for joining us.
Speaker 6: This has been amazing. Thank you so much.
Speaker 17: Love hearing you play live. We'll do it again, and
Speaker 17: you know, and anything new of course that you've got
Speaker 17: coming out as far as studio tracks. We will always uh,
Speaker 17: we'll always give them a spin here. I think I
Speaker 17: know we opened the show with it, but I love
Speaker 17: it so much, I think we should also end uh
Speaker 17: the segment with we should give this another spin?
Speaker 6: Uh dream come true. I really love this song a lot.
Speaker 31: Thanks man.
Speaker 20: Yeah.
Speaker 2: Who.
Speaker 17: By the way, so these these songs like who are
Speaker 17: the kind of the primary songwriters?
Speaker 6: Or is it Nick?
Speaker 19: Is?
Speaker 12: Nick?
Speaker 32: He's an amazing song right, Like, we'll just start jamming.
Speaker 32: He'll come up with words off the top of his head,
Speaker 32: like melodies, like he like improvises songs.
Speaker 29: It's crazy. Really, I've never seen anyone do it. It's
Speaker 29: thanks crazy yeah.
Speaker 6: Yeah, no, great great stuff. Everything, everything you've got going
Speaker 6: is great.
