New Hampshire. It is Saturday, April thirteen, twenty twenty four, and
Jenny is here of course at the news table accounted for Yes, yes,
and we have now joining us live in studio. So we have a gentleman
who uh formerly for Shane Ballin. But now your bag's ballin. That's right.
So I want to ask you about that right out of the gate.
The rebrand. Yeah, I rebranded. Yes, yeah, last couple of
times I was here, I was talking about my dad and my dad everybody
called them bags. Everybody called them bags. Oh okay, that was his
name. Yeah, and so now I took over the name. My dad
passed away. FI had a tough battle. He fought hard, but he
lost. He lost him in September, oh last year. Oh sorry to
hear that. Sorry, thanks, thanks, Yeah, but yeah, he
was like real, like a manager, you know, felt like to me
or like Mick or something. You know. You know, he's talked to
me and pumped me up. You know. Yeah, I really liked uh,
I really liked him, you know, doing that coming here and and
so now I just really this one I dedicate to my dad because he's not
around, so I let his name live on now. So it's uh,
yeah, that's cool. That's cool. And you know, and and from
a standpoint too, of it helps you stand out, right because that's not
a name here every day certainly, so it kind of helps. Uh yeah,
And I used to love hearing it from his friends. You know,
it's really hey bags, Hey bags, you know. Yeah, now somebody
they called me and I walk into some place and hey bags. You know,
it gives you goosebumps. Oh that's really cool. That's really cool.
Yeah, one did when did we have you? Was it more than a
year ago? It's about it was in the old studio. Obviously it was
twice last year. So oh that's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
that's right. Yeah, and then and the yeah two times. I think
the second time was like in June or something like that. Yeah, yeah,
okay. Now this time though, is unique because not only are we
at our new Canal Street location, but you've brought someone with you. I'll
let you introduce him. That's right. I got my good friend here,
Johnny. Johnny, how you doing? Yeah, hey Johnny? And uh
yeah, he's a real talented guy. He plays something you haven't heard,
probably, but he plays the Saw old time Americana baby. He saw some
and you know, he's going to accompany me with some originals and some covers.
So and as we discussed earlier, that'll be the first time that a
Saw has been heard on this program, certainly probably the first time on w
m and h I reckon you saw it here first. Oh but he's got
puns And let me ask you to before you guys play something for us.
How how did you guys connect and do you play together a lot now?
Or yeah? We we met over at Charlie Hill up in Lebanon. I
talked about it for Charlie Hill. What's up y? Yeah, much props
Charlie Hill, Terry and Mike up there, and uh, they've they've really
parented you could say, so many different up and coming musicians and bands.
Yeah, you know Sepsis Award winning, you know, best metal band of
New England just one that there. They've been on here, they're from you
know, essentially Charlie's been playing up there a long time after the Winter played
on here. They've been up at Charlie's. You know, Me and Johnny
have played on stage many times up there or run fires. You know,
I love playing around. It's usually the one great big band. But yeah,
we've heard about Charlie so a lot on this show. Actually, yeah,
yeah, I got to check it out. Jenny and I got to
check that out sometimes. Yeah, yeah, where where is it? It's
up in May and I've been playing there exclusively this year. I finally got
some you know, more more paid gigs. You know, I've been.
I've got a residency pretty much over at chains it's called ironically Shane's Barbecue pitt
over in Hampton, Okay, So that is really really fun. And they
have an outdoor beautiful uh tiki bar style key West, you know, with
hanging lights and beautiful paintings outside, all open area for the summertime. Yeah,
and you know, great food and you know woodburn they got a nice
hardwood burning when you walk in that smell bar. So go check those guys
out. Also at Ma's Cafe in Deerfield. Played there in Saint Patti's and
they have some great acoustic circle nights Wednesday nights every other Wednesday. Great food
there. You got to check them out. Maz and Breakfast also in Deerfield.
And the Cavern in Pembroke that's another one too, and that's uh they
got great food, nice bar, great tvsh was that run on Route three
going through there? Yeah? Okay, yeah, I know I know where
that is, yeah, before the tolls. So those places, you know,
I just want to give shouts and people should check those outs. Can
be good music playing there. I'll be playing there and uh on Facebook and
stuff, I'll post the time excellent, excellent, all right, So I'm
dying to hear you guys, especially now that you have this new component with
the sauce. So this will be this will be very interesting. This will
be very interesting. And uh, i'll bring that once you get started,
I'll bring another mic up to m h y good and mm hmm, I've
got h I'm going. I'll be coming home at my bags. Let's get
movie whose I'm brown to win When I'm gone, I'm gone. Oh you
don't have to work no more? Gone inside you see it's I've got that
of trapping bomb. What was this scene? Want what I want? I
won't he lose in my way? No, no, no, he said,
see day hey, hey, good and the whizzle what I feel I've
got. But I'm going, I'm gone, I'm getting home. Listen on
your side, can see your side, let me see on your side?
See ah see m m yeahs MIC's on there, very nice, very nice.
We got bag spelling here with us and Johnny. Do you just go
by Johnny Johnny Goden, Johnny Goden. Okay, I mean I picked up
many nicknames off. Yeah, yeah, oil it? Oh all right?
Oh my god? Yeah, how was it? Like I sometimes get really
I probably could pick the hell out of that. No, it sounds good,
you guys sound great? All right? Well, uh, I think
we're gonna go right into Uh, let's go to an original here. This
is called song I Broke Cold with a good friend of mine who played it
on here before. It's called Daddy's Truck And oh yeah I remember the song,
yes, yes, yeah, So you can find this song out there
on all the music outlets. I was produced by mister good Bars and Toy
Box Studio, which props mister good Bars, Young Hustle League YHL. Yep,
he's on the show the Goddess and mister good Bars and bang. What's
going on? Guys and girls? All right? You remember the YHL Young
Hustle League now Johnny? Yeah, so so this song the song was a
song written by Jeaneine and myself and one day spoke four years ago, five
years ago, I love you and yes she is, and I started playing
this chord progression. She started thinking of her father. Tears started falling down
her eyes, and the only thing she could think of was his old beat
up truck that she had, you know, for years and years. Then
she used to just go out back and it was the only thing she had
left of him. She would go out, she'd smell his smells and his
tobacco is the ordinance. Smell would be still in the air, and she
remembers driving down an old road and the first time between his legs teaching her
how to drive a car. She was down on her luck and she didn't
have she didn't have anything really, but she needed a couple of bucks,
so she had to go to a junkyard. And this is the story of
Daddy's truck and trading it into the junkyard. Now for a few couple bucks,
I can steal smell tobacco. When I climbed inside my daddy three on
the tree, he armed at his knee. He taught me he had to
try down or to lucky strikes in a spain or two smells that hit my
heart. Now let them memories in his more Dutch worth more than money.
And at your off, gonna pay me if I was his soul. Down
on my luck right now, keep that truck and die. I'd hang on
to my daddy. I'm runly a child running white. You didn't know how
to take me. That is where I want his work. All this stuff
he's gating me. I didn't care. I just wanted to brow up pen
be fore memories. Any so did struck food with more than the money that
you have gonna pay me? Okay, if I wasn't so down on my
luck like now, I keep that truck, hang on till my day as
I took that gun racked down. Now my heart reads with the holy pak
tonera spell that make feels win. Now clean your man pain these it syrup,
don't you shall do'n do? My dad kind of memories say, it's
the Dutch trucke worth more than the money that you have gonna in me.
If I wasn't so down on my luck back now, I'll keep chucking.
I hang on to my daddy, to my gonna call. SI was too
soon, and I don't think you would. Yeah. That is a beautifu
full song. Thanks, absolutely beautiful. Yeah, I remember you played that
the last time. It's like, wow, that's that's intense. And the
whole story behind it too, it's pretty amazing. Yeah, and Johnny and
Johnny was good friends with with her as well. Oh okay, so it's
just self fitting. Yeah, yeah, totally, totally, yeah, yeah,
if you're just joining us, we have Bags Balin and Johnny go Goden.
Is that your I said, that's right, Johnny Goden here with us
live in studio and playing some songs. And this is the first time that
the two of you have been here together. So how many how many songs?
How many live shows have you guys done together? A couple of A
couple of times, you know, over just a lot of informal stuff,
but a lot of you know, gatherings, and then a couple of shows
you know that we've done together. Yeah, And do you of other musicians
you play with too, or you know, not really a couple of guitarists,
I guess I would say, you know, and stuff like Brian Munger
and maybe you know, like Madison West and things you don't really and that
much props Madison West. Go for Buddy, He's gonna go for win Hampton
Idol. He's in the finals. He's not the Charlie Hill guy right there?
Oh all right? Oh wow, yeah, oh cool? Check him
out, check him out. Good job, Madison excellent, Buddy excellent.
I've played with a lot of people like I usually fill in with a lot
of people like Yeah. When I originally started playing sol, like, I
grew up playing drums for my dad. Oh okay, that was your first
instrument drums. Yeah. And then when he passed away in ten ten fourteen,
I inherited his bass guitar and his bass A nice so I started to
learn how to play right handed. I'm left handed, but I've learned to
play pretty much other guitar, banjo, everything else left handed. Yeah,
he's the right hand world, I guess. Yeah. Yeah, even the
technically is right handage, is it? Yeah? Is that a difficult instrument
to learn or you know, I mean it takes a couple You know,
you can make it sound in a day, but yeah, like after a
day or two you start to have to work on some form. But it's
about at least for me, it took a couple of months to get some
of the learning curve, but years to really start to master the pitch,
because this taught me about pitch way more than any other instruments. Really.
There's no attenuation, but you can play in between frequencies, so that's where
you can start resonating when I open my mouth like my jaw, I can
feel the resonance. Yeah yeah, oh interesting, so that's why you do
that the technically, Yeah, I could transfers over to other instruments that I've
played, like, oh you know, I have a better understanding. It
kind of breaks me. Oh that's interesting. I'm always like changing different kinds
of core progressions or yeah on like banjo specifically. Yeah, yeah, but
anyways, yeah, yeah, cool, cool. Well I'm dying to hear
some more if you got right, Yeah, we're ready. I want to
play another one? Yeah yeah, sure, all right, Johnny, how
about uh, we're just fun? Well do the one follow along with this
is gonna be like the same corp porgression as we do. Is a little
cover song by Bailey's Zimmerman. It's called rock in a Hard Place. H

young kid. He's good. Really, that's a great song. And I

Orlando, because I'm from Florida. Really, Oh okay, okay, Florida.
Love you mom, love your family. But how do you uh,
how'd you find your way to New Hampshire. So back in twenty seventeen,
my uh, my hot dealer needed to right up to Massachusetts and he didn't
have a driver's plic, so he's going to mid I learned all about this
newings and experience since then, and my cousin he lived in Dover, my
mom's side of family from Cape Cod's. Yeah, and actually my uncle Danny
used to be a DJ for Oh he's gonna kill me for not remembering this,
but it's one one something I think from a long time ago, Danny
Towers. Okay, I love you, Dany, but yeah, that was
my connection to up here. But I travel around the country and really fell
in love with New Hampshire. Yeah. Like the diversity, Oh good,
good, we're glad you're here. And musical talent from everybody. Yeah,
oh yeah, Oh there's there's so much great talent all around here. Absolutely
absolutely well. I was gonna do well, we didn't do Aaron No,
I didn't do that one, all right, Yeah, it's gonna do Aaron
Lewis song. Okay, yeah, check out Aaron Lewis lately. He's great.
I know he's been kind of canceled here and there, but you know,
political reasons whatever, but great musician. Yeah. Originally it's Stained for
anyone I was gonna say, yeah, for anyone listening who thinks, oh
that name is familiar, but I don't quite can't quite play some Yeah,
just came out with a new album, Stained, But what he Oh,
it's stand at years old. They just came out with a rock. Oh,
I didn't realize that. Oh that's okay. But his solo stuff is
all country, right, country, it's it's country. Yeah, it's country
mixed with like he even sings staying songs with a little country slag. Oh
okay, okay, all right cool. Uh. This song is called Lost
and Lonely, the song about he wrote it about being on the road and
uh, being away. I think he was like in jail or something for
a little bit, oh okay, thing off of tour, you know,
and brook Brooks the young One was kind of talking about that a little bit,
uh in the the Our First Hour today, not being on the road
and being lonely and not not the jail park, but being on the road
and being exactly Yeah, yeah, that's the that's the that's what he's trying
to capture in this song. And uh and I think you'll you'll feel it
all right. H m hm hm. My bed shattered broken. Most of
my money that I've done fai with the child way God pecently that I've bought
me her that I read ho these things that I do that I couldn't have
you tell me, love me, tell me you stay. I'm watch over
this house. I go away. He just promised to be here. Will
I get back home so we can start where he left on all those years
ago before my demon by the control. I sitting lonely out m hm m

a try. I was hanging round handle and I play the food. I'm
so hard he loove because I break on all these things that high to because
I couldn't have you tell me you love me, tell me stay and you
watch over this high. I go well out to paget back so we can
start merely after oh go on years my money they took control. Yeah here,
Well that is a great song. Yeah, yeah, thank you.
So it's Lost and Lonely by Aaron Lewis, right, yeah, yeah,
verty cool, very cool. If you're just joining us. Bags Balin is
here with us in studio this morning, and Johnny Godin also accompanying. Accompanying
him. I always have a time with that word accompanying him on the song
and uh playing some stuff and uh mostly just mostly just playing, not as
not as much talk more just playing because uh, you know, we've we've
had a bags has been on the show a few times and love to hear

if Johnny noticed or not. You can chime in, my friend, I've
been doing its you I mean I played that no completely. Yeah, I
just love this song. I've been playing this cover lately. I just want
to want to feel like playing it. We'll take a chance. I gotta
go out of your range every now and then. Right there you go,
there you go. What what is it? You're like Chris Isaac? Oh,
we've we've heard some Chris Isaac in the Okay studio recently. Yeah.
Yeah, I'll try to match him up. All right, it's a wicked
game, all right. Mm hmmm, I do this like this m H
World sound five and going on you save me h. It's strange, but
it is not make forless people who do her ever Dream and I me somebody

That's bags Balance here with us live in studio, and we also have Johnny
Goden here with us. Yeah. I don't remember if you had played that
one before on the show. Oh did you? Yeah? Yeah, yeah.
Jenny's son, Jesse Coffee, he played it. Actually, he's played
it a couple times on the show. Yeah. Yeah, No, that
was great. That was excellent, excellent. I just because I just I
wanted to just you know, go for it. Do a falsetto on the
radio? Yeah? Is that? Do you find that challenging or does it
come? Yeah? It's hard to do with sitting down, you know.
Oh yeah, yeah that's right. You mentioned stretch. Yeah, yeah,
finding that, you know, standing a lot a lot better for vocally,
but yeah you're old then it hurts your knee. Yeah, we got we
got time for for a couple more. Okay, great, yeah, we
got a couple more. Cool. Cool. Here's the original I wrote this
song is called Charlie Okay, and this song is very special talking about Charlie's
Hill. This is dedicated to Terry's daughter. Charlie passed away several years ago,
and I wrote this song. Something came to me in a dream where
I was having a commonversation with her mother about a conversation and about her daughter
passing. I didn't even know that. Well, it's just interesting how that
happened. And I wrote a song that night, had to write it,
and it was real emotional with it, and I ended up getting to know
them very well after that, and I sang this several times there. But
it's said a kid to her daughter best way. And it's about all the
things that we see or we think we feel and we kind of we sense
we don't think it, we really sense it that we feel the presence in
a sense of the the essence of the people we lost, and this is
especially so for them. So I love you Terry, I love you Mike.
Here you go, Yeah, here's Charlie. We'll see each other again.
I remember the song from last time. Yeah, this is a beautiful
song. M Saturday Night Jams, Loving you big time and Barbie cards,

like, Okay, I'm usually shy like, but I think this is
probably gonna bringing me out to actually start to do a world of things science
experiments anyway and stuff. But I'd love to start making a video. Probably
find me just well, you could definitely find me Johnny Golden and Jaen and
why God in g O d I on Facebook. But so this is probably
gonna push me into a bunch of things I've been wanting to. I need
to get a looper, I need to clean up this sauce I can get
and register and I got like a bunch of instruments and just ready to go.
Yeah you know yeah, thank you yea world, and thank you for
you gave me some great inspiration. You know, I'm getting old. Do
something in this world. We're alive. I might as we live and do
everything you want to do. I don't care about anything. Do everything you
want to do out there. Anybody listening, don't ever be afraid of anyone's
looking at you or how you feel. Just do what you want to do,
because then you look back and say, I did that, and some
people aren't even alive right now and they wish they could do these things.
Don't spend your life being insecure. Okay. That was also kind of a
theme when we were talking earlier to brooks Young. That kind of came up
too interesting. Today, I guess it's a day for that, which is
good, very very positive. Gentlemen. Thank you both so much much,
absolutely, and thank you, of course to Brooks Young for joining us in
the first hour, and of course our friend grim Rock for skyping in from
PA, and of course Eric Pilcher for another great classic film review this week
he did. It was actually a replay of a Touch of Evil from nineteen
fifty eight, as he is featuring Orson Wells this month during his film review.
Jenny, thank you. You want to mention your website absolutely, You
can check me out at gencoffee dot com. J E N N co O
