19:26 Speaker 2: This is from Digitalmusicnews dot com. Following Cox versus Sony decision,

19:32 Speaker 2: both cases voluntarily dismissed with prejudice. It says here just

19:37 Speaker 2: like that at least two music industry infringement lawsuits against

19:41 Speaker 2: Internet service providers Verizon and Altis USA have drawn to

19:46 Speaker 2: an abrupt close following the Supreme Courts Cox versus Sony decision.

19:51 Speaker 2: We've been covering those copyright complaints plus multiple others filed

19:56 Speaker 2: against ISPs for years now. Spearheaded by Warner Brothers Music

20:01 Speaker 2: and Sony Music. The Altis case set sale in twenty

20:03 Speaker 2: twenty three and accuse the company of failing to adequately

20:06 Speaker 2: address subscriber's alleged repeat infringement. Now, the reason we're talking

20:11 Speaker 2: about this, and there's obviously much more to this article,

20:13 Speaker 2: but the reason we've been talking about this on the show.

20:16 Speaker 2: Is one of the things that has been happening in

20:19 Speaker 2: the music industry is there's this idea that if you

20:25 Speaker 2: are an Internet service provider in ISP and people are

20:31 Speaker 2: using your service, your internet service, to do things that

20:35 Speaker 2: are theoretically illegal. I say theoretically because there's some disagreement

20:40 Speaker 2: about I mean, you know, file sharing and what is

20:45 Speaker 2: you know, what is illegal or legal or what is wrong,

20:49 Speaker 2: you know, the ethics of it, and and so forth.

20:51 Speaker 2: If you're downloading pirated music, allegedly pirated music, there's this

20:58 Speaker 2: idea that these Internet service providers should somehow be held

21:01 Speaker 2: responsible for that. And you've had major labels like Sony

21:04 Speaker 2: and Universal Music Group suing these Internet service providers, and

21:08 Speaker 2: in a recent landmark decision that well, basically there was

21:14 Speaker 2: a court that actually found in favor of these companies

21:18 Speaker 2: that were suing Cox Communications in this case, the internet

21:22 Speaker 2: service provider who was named in the lawsuit and was

21:26 Speaker 2: a target of this lawsuit, and they actually won. They

21:29 Speaker 2: beat Cox Communications, so they were owed this award. But

21:33 Speaker 2: then it went all the way to the Supreme Court

21:35 Speaker 2: and the Supreme Court and again, you know, we don't

21:38 Speaker 2: do politics on this iteration of the show. But we

21:42 Speaker 2: have a Supreme Court in this era that I might

21:45 Speaker 2: disagree with more often than not, But in this case,

21:47 Speaker 2: I think they got it right because I don't think

21:49 Speaker 2: it's reasonable for I don't think it's reasonable for these

21:55 Speaker 2: internet service providers to be held responsible for little thing

22:01 Speaker 2: that they do. By the way, before we go any further.

22:40 Speaker 2: very very topical obviously. And can you tell us about

22:48 Speaker 2: about this collaboration with John Klein.

22:51 Speaker 9: Uh?

22:51 Speaker 2: We played Uh, I'll tell you what we played from

22:53 Speaker 2: it so far this morning. Uh, this collaboration automated Paradise.

22:57 Speaker 2: We played Fading Away, who wins and make it stop.

23:01 Speaker 2: And I told our audience, I said, make sure you're

23:04 Speaker 2: paying attention to the lyrics of this because, uh, you know,

23:08 Speaker 2: these guys are saying a lot. But can you tell

23:10 Speaker 2: us about this project, this release Automated Paradise and and

23:13 Speaker 2: what the theme of it is?

23:16 Speaker 9: Well, dystopia is the theme. I suppose the world Samsara

23:21 Speaker 9: is really heating up and everything's pretty crazy now, isn't it.

23:25 Speaker 9: There isn't any sense of that you can take refuge

23:31 Speaker 9: anywhere in this world and find peace. Everywhere is troubled,

23:34 Speaker 9: it seems, you know. So we had that time in

23:39 Speaker 9: the studio. Me and John. I started a community project

23:44 Speaker 9: for music in an auth of England quite a few

23:48 Speaker 9: years years ago. Okay, moved it to London where a

23:51 Speaker 9: very good friend of mine is involved with a local

23:54 Speaker 9: council and he's very good friends with John and I met.

23:57 Speaker 9: I met John fluss All actually doing a He came

23:59 Speaker 9: to video a show that we did. He's a very

24:01 Speaker 9: good video maker, John, I've got all the qualifications. E

24:05 Speaker 9: makes corporate video sometimes that kind of stuff. So we met,

24:09 Speaker 9: we became friends, started working on a community project, built

24:13 Speaker 9: a studio, so we have lots of times together to

24:16 Speaker 9: record and hang out, and we get on very well.

24:19 Speaker 9: We did first the first thing we did together like that,

24:22 Speaker 9: I think was metal Box Rebuilt in Duba, and that

24:27 Speaker 9: worked really well, and we've just continued and this we

24:29 Speaker 9: had some dead time. Every time we had some dead time,

24:32 Speaker 9: there was a decent drummer about, and that actually makes

24:36 Speaker 9: a huge difference, you know, to a session. Just having

24:39 Speaker 9: my son was was around on one occasion. Then we

24:43 Speaker 9: had this Japanese gil with Zumi was around on another occasion,

24:46 Speaker 9: and a really modest Italian guy called Gilberto, and just

24:49 Speaker 9: having a real drum, not spectacular, not tribes spectActor, just

24:53 Speaker 9: just a good drive. It gives it a bit of

24:55 Speaker 9: air to begin with, so you have a bit of

24:58 Speaker 9: a real vibe. You can't you haven't got the options

25:00 Speaker 9: to go and change because it is what it is.

25:03 Speaker 9: And I just felt, this is what it is. This

25:05 Speaker 9: is in the moment for once, let's look at the

25:08 Speaker 9: external world rather than the inner world to find in

25:11 Speaker 9: a lights or something, which is actually the sensible thing

25:15 Speaker 9: to do and write about how crazy things are. And

25:18 Speaker 9: it's very easy actually for me to write about how

25:21 Speaker 9: crazy things are and not offer a solutions id the

25:24 Speaker 9: one you know, I wish I could. Well, the only

25:26 Speaker 9: thing else would be turn inside. There's no refuge in

25:30 Speaker 9: the outer world matters of an insane time that we're

25:34 Speaker 9: living in. You know, so much information. I find it

25:40 Speaker 9: hard to read a book.

25:41 Speaker 3: Now.

25:41 Speaker 9: I can read a book, but I find it difficult

25:44 Speaker 9: to sit down and allow my mind to settle in

25:47 Speaker 9: a calm fashion because they're so used to fragmented information

25:51 Speaker 9: coming at me from a bloody telephone. You're not.

25:54 Speaker 2: I think that's part of what I really enjoy about

25:55 Speaker 2: the album and what I'm sure that people who listen

25:58 Speaker 2: to it, one of the things that they relate to

26:00 Speaker 2: is well that it is so relatable because so many

26:02 Speaker 2: people feel that way the way that you just described it.

26:05 Speaker 2: And that's interesting. What you said too about reading a book.

26:08 Speaker 2: You know, even that can be difficult because how do

26:11 Speaker 2: you calm your mind and not think about everything else

26:13 Speaker 2: is going on in the world. And you also mentioned too,

26:15 Speaker 2: we have more access you know, for better or worse.

26:19 Speaker 2: We have more access to information more quickly than ever before.

26:23 Speaker 2: And you don't even know if the information that you're

26:25 Speaker 2: accessing is correct or not. And you know, with the

26:28 Speaker 2: rise of AI and deep fakes and all of it,

26:31 Speaker 2: and it's and I think that I think the album

26:34 Speaker 2: really kind of speaks to that sense of overwhelm. And

26:37 Speaker 2: as you mentioned too, you know, there's no there's no

26:39 Speaker 2: solutions necessarily offered, because what is what is the solution?

26:44 Speaker 2: I don't know, and it doesn't sound like you do either.

26:46 Speaker 2: I don't think anyone really does necessarily other than to

26:50 Speaker 2: just try to unplug from it all. But that's that's

26:52 Speaker 2: pretty challenging in this world in which we live.

26:55 Speaker 9: Well, I mean you just what you did. There is

26:58 Speaker 9: might a build up for me to Buddhism, actually, which

27:01 Speaker 9: is I mean, all the religions have something to offer.

27:04 Speaker 9: The biggest religion of our time is materialist atheism of colts.

27:07 Speaker 9: That's the actually the biggest religion. People between to it

27:10 Speaker 9: with not a huge amount of information, but clean desperately

27:13 Speaker 9: that there's there's nothing.

27:15 Speaker 2: Right, not.

27:17 Speaker 9: You know, in a nihilistic kind of way, you could say.

27:20 Speaker 9: But I think with Buddhism, you know, Buddhism actually teaches

27:23 Speaker 9: that Samsarah. All the stuff we're talking about, this external manifestation,

27:28 Speaker 9: how we perceive things. We in fact, we make this world,

27:32 Speaker 9: We interact with it, we make it so the only Buddhism,

27:39 Speaker 9: the first one all phenomena lacking here in existence, a

27:44 Speaker 9: second phenomena that they're in permanent, permanent. And thirdly, all

27:51 Speaker 9: condition phenomena are suffering because we suffer because we cling

27:55 Speaker 9: onto things thinking that they're definite and they're real when

28:00 Speaker 9: they're stable. When they're not, nothing is right. The world

28:04 Speaker 9: is constructed real concepts of nirvana, so that once once

28:11 Speaker 9: you go beyond that, once you see beyond that, you're

28:15 Speaker 9: you're in pain. So price is possible, I think, actually,

28:18 Speaker 9: but it's not a prostatizing record. It's a record where

28:22 Speaker 9: I love the negativity and the craziness and enjoy pointing

28:26 Speaker 9: fingers and and and and being being an angry man.

28:54 Speaker 2: But I think that distrust and power structures. Again, I

28:56 Speaker 2: think it's just very relatable for for people regard regardless

29:00 Speaker 2: of where they sat ideologically. I think everyone can connect

29:04 Speaker 9: Yeah, well, I think a lot of people fed up

29:06 Speaker 9: with ideologies.

29:08 Speaker 9: I was very left wing kind of guy when I

29:10 Speaker 9: was younger, and then it's actually so you're left with

29:14 Speaker 9: this kind of bare bones ideology, but that roadmap doesn't

29:18 Speaker 9: fit anymore in the modern world, so you know. And

29:22 Speaker 9: then on the other hand, you have what's called right

29:24 Speaker 9: wing kind of nationalistic as well, and if you apply

29:28 Speaker 9: it with this country, where very angry at the way

29:31 Speaker 9: the country's turning out, and this, that and the other.

29:34 Speaker 9: But the very hero that they followed, Margaret Thatcher, was

29:38 Speaker 9: the person who deregulated everything, attacked the working class, smashed

29:42 Speaker 9: the unions, sold, made sure everything council houses, what you

29:48 Speaker 9: call projects in America could be sold off, and we

29:52 Speaker 9: sold our utility works so become everything was as probably

29:57 Speaker 9: as privatized as America. The public basically you probably you know,

30:01 Speaker 9: just about as privatized as America. And of course people

30:05 Speaker 9: at the time make a little bit of money. A

30:07 Speaker 9: lot of people were able to own their own home

30:09 Speaker 9: and all that. But Eventually, of course, it catches up

30:12 Speaker 9: with you and the rich get the richer get much

30:15 Speaker 9: much richer, seems to be the demographic, you know, and

30:18 Speaker 9: the poorer get really put in the middle class. It's

30:21 Speaker 9: not even the American middle class is very squeezed now financially,

30:27 Speaker 9: is it. You know so, And of course, you know,

30:30 Speaker 9: there's one a lot of the world leaders now remind

30:34 Speaker 9: me of that comic book film Sin City. You know,

30:37 Speaker 9: they're sort of you know, you look at all of them,

30:40 Speaker 9: they all they're all they're all kind of parodies. They're

30:44 Speaker 9: that bad, you know, they're all parodies.

30:47 Speaker 2: You know, well, certainly, I mean when you look at

30:49 Speaker 2: American politics, it's especially easy, too easy to see that,

30:53 Speaker 2: you know that they're they've become caricatures of of what

30:57 Speaker 2: what I thought a politician was growing up. It's it's

31:00 Speaker 2: it's unbelievable.

31:02 Speaker 9: Yeah, well, I remember coming across one or two labor

31:06 Speaker 9: So that's the rough approximate of the Democrat Party in America.

31:10 Speaker 9: And of course I always grew up. I grew up

31:12 Speaker 9: in a very very left wing area, very left wing,

31:16 Speaker 9: and you had you probably had to wade of votes

31:20 Speaker 9: rather than count them. It was it was hardly anybody

31:23 Speaker 9: voted voted for the other parties. It was all labor

31:27 Speaker 9: and you look at those guys from the Labor Party,

31:30 Speaker 9: but even some for the Conservative They'd seen the horrors

31:34 Speaker 9: of the depression, the terrible, terrible poverty and what they

31:38 Speaker 9: did to people, breaking families up, terrible things happening, and

31:45 Speaker 9: they and they'd seen the horrors of the Second World War,

31:48 Speaker 9: so they really had a municipal they had a thing

31:53 Speaker 9: in them that really wanted to put something back in

31:55 Speaker 9: and make a better society. At the end of the war,

31:58 Speaker 9: Churchill would have been the big war time leader here

32:00 Speaker 9: was heavily defeated, and the Labor Party, the Socialist Party

32:05 Speaker 9: got in, you know, because people just wanted to change

32:09 Speaker 9: at that point. You know, when you compare the politicians

32:14 Speaker 9: we have now the politicians then they come up very

32:18 Speaker 9: very short because a lot of politicians were either on

32:20 Speaker 9: a big level or a lower level, are just kind

32:23 Speaker 9: of hustlers. Politics is a hustle. Obviously, we know that.

32:26 Speaker 9: You know, America, America talks, you know, so it's pretty ugly.

32:32 Speaker 9: But the more of us, it's kind of nice, I

32:34 Speaker 9: think to put a voice into well, say yeah, if

32:38 Speaker 9: there's any message in the record, it's like, yeah, this

32:40 Speaker 9: is all it's too shall pass it too? Shell pass

32:43 Speaker 9: one way or the other. It will pass, you know, right.

32:47 Speaker 2: Well, assuming it doesn't continue to just get worse with

32:50 Speaker 2: each generation. I don't know.

32:52 Speaker 9: I mean, you know, everything's everything cycles. You have relative

32:57 Speaker 9: you have relative levels of peace, where every with with

33:00 Speaker 9: the Cold War, everything felt very static. There were literal

33:03 Speaker 9: walls in place. You had the Soviet system, you had

33:07 Speaker 9: the Western system, and then the China was always this

33:10 Speaker 9: flow of scury place. You know, that even clashed with

33:14 Speaker 9: Soviet Russia. So you had three kind of you know,

33:17 Speaker 9: world power, but the two made well ours obviously Soviet

33:21 Speaker 9: Russia and the West America and the West. And now,

33:24 Speaker 9: of course that's all with Trump's attitudes of beauty, that's

33:28 Speaker 9: all breaking down, the NATO alliances severely weakened, and everything

33:32 Speaker 9: kills in a state of flux. But you're still essentially

33:36 Speaker 9: you're dinner with constructs and ideas in your head of

33:39 Speaker 9: how the world is. You know, when the Romans invaded

33:42 Speaker 9: Britain and eventually all the rebellions kind of died down,

33:45 Speaker 9: there was a long period of relative peace until until

33:50 Speaker 9: you know, the Roman Empire started to fall. The barbarians

33:53 Speaker 9: got in through the gate, so to speak, and normally

33:57 Speaker 9: the barbarians I think were invited in actually to some

34:00 Speaker 9: extent in history, right, the thing itself have a cell

34:06 Speaker 9: by date and wants a change. Does that make sense?

34:09 Speaker 9: And the West has been going for I think you

34:12 Speaker 9: get two hundred and fifty three hundred years of these civilizations,

34:18 Speaker 9: Chinese dynasties, they all fall. It's how do you fall?

34:26 Speaker 9: with the republic into you know, He's very clear you

34:31 Speaker 9: have democracy. Once democracy goes, then you get into plutocracy,

34:35 Speaker 9: rich people running the world, and then comes totalitarianism. Well

34:39 Speaker 9: it looks a little bit to me like that's how

34:41 Speaker 9: we're going right now.

36:06 Speaker 9: time in Belgium, we get there and we find out

36:08 Speaker 9: we need a go box. If you've got a commercial

36:11 Speaker 9: sized vehicle, it's not that big a bus commercial side record.

36:16 Speaker 9: You have to have a go box to allow you

36:18 Speaker 9: to go on the highways in Belgium, and that means

36:21 Speaker 9: you have to have the log book, ownership, registration of

36:24 Speaker 9: the van, the insurance details, everything you know, all the

36:30 Speaker 9: engine number, the works. Oh wow, I come out to

36:35 Speaker 9: join the tour manager, who's a very good tour manager,

36:38 Speaker 9: who's just on the verge of tiers. For the frustration

36:41 Speaker 9: of this, you know, so everything you know traveling, everything

36:46 Speaker 9: gets more and more. The eurocracy gets worse. Traveling becomes

36:51 Speaker 9: more of a vassal. Whereas in the nineties with Brexit,

36:54 Speaker 9: we had open borders in Europe and you felt you

36:56 Speaker 9: could travel. At one time before ninety eleven, I had

36:59 Speaker 9: an in definite visa for America. You know, it's incredible,

37:07 Speaker 9: eight it's jammed. You go into America a lot of times,

37:10 Speaker 9: you never make any trouble. Is we're going to give

37:24 Speaker 9: and I would run, I'd get to the airport fifteen

37:27 Speaker 9: minutes before the plane left and they'd play to the

37:30 Speaker 9: eighth the flight to British Airways, the flight to Heathro's

37:36 Speaker 9: we'll call the gate tell them to hold. You know,

37:39 Speaker 9: it was incredible and you zoomed down to London really fast.
