Matt Connarton Unleashed 4-27-23
Game Plan
The day the Mussy Die. Welcome everybody, here we go. It is
that time again, Matt Connerton Unleashed and we are live from the studios of
wm n H ninety five point three FM and Glorious Downtown Manchester, New Hampshire,
also on Comcast ninety seven. If you're in Manchester, Hello to Oliver
our online listeners across the nation and around the globe. You can go to
my website Matt Connerton dot com for all of your live streaming options, social
media links, contact info, show archives, etc. Etc. Today is
Thursday, April twenty seven, twenty twenty three, so nice to have you
all with me. By the way, the music that you heard at the
top of the show, we opened with a side of the Times a little
band called Chemical Distance, which I happened to have been in at the time
of the recording of that little number. So every once in a while I
play something that I was a part of, and because why not. It's
my show, and that's my favorite song that we did, and I think
it's appropriate. It's it's got a certain timelessness about it. Sign of the
Times. It's almost a pun really, if you think about it. I
didn't mean to do that, but I'm so I'm just that good. It
just flows effortlessly from me my friends anyway, No, I'm kidding, but
except the part about that being Sign of the Times by Chemical Distance, and
yes, I was in the band. And then we heard a little bit
of a cover. We heard some American Pie by President Yune of South Korea.
He visited the White House for an event today and apparently he really likes
to do karaoke and that is a song that he likes to sing a karaoke.
Apparently it's his favorite song, or at least it's his favorite American song.
So I thought that was a cool moment. And they presented him with
a guitar that was played by or owned by Don McLean and uh, so
it was pretty cool. But uh and uh, there was something else about
that too. I wanted to mention that was kind of it was kind of
interesting. I forget what it was now, but oh, you know what
I wanted to mention, and that apparently it's been a decade since since a
president of South Korea has visited the White House in the United States, so
it's kind of a big deal. But yeah, we have an exciting show
for you today. Coming up in the second hour, we're gonna be joined
by Peter Pappas in studio. He's gonna bring his acoustic guitar and his harmonica
and he's gonna play some songs for us and we'll talk. And I'm really
looking forward to interviewing him, as I think I'd mentioned the other day because
he had told me, oh no, I'm sorry. Peter White had told
me that. Apparently Peter Pappas was Peter White's biology teacher in high school.
And Pappas played in the band Headshop with don Te Tibbets, so so that's
pretty cool. So who knows, maybe we'll hear from one of those guys
while Peter Pappas is here today. We'll see, but really looking forward to
that. I love his music. I played a couple of his songs the
other day and great voice, really really good songwriter, so I look forward
to hearing him live. So that'll be coming up in the second hour to
at five pm. In the first hour, I think we're gonna be joined
for a little bit by EASYG for his entertainment report. I also want to
talk today too, and we'll see how much time we have to really get
into it. But there's a piece of bipartisan legislation currently in the Senate,
and it is so unusual to have actual bipartisan legislation. Always nice to see
both parties working together on something, isn't it? Well, not necessarily.
What if the bipartisan legislation happens to be a terrible idea, Well maybe we'll
get into that. We'll see how much time we have. If not,
if we don't get to it today, we'll definitely get to it tomorrow.
But if you'd like to join us, Oh, actually, this is probably
EASYG calling for his entertainment report. Hello, Hey, I didn't have to
guess your name comes up on the caller ID. Oh good, yeah,
yeah, I never have to guess. How are you? Eric? Not
too bad? All names come up when they say call in. I cannot
tell you that because it is a proprietary information. Yes, it's a secret.
True. Actually, i'll you know what. You know what. I
will be completely honest with you. I was, I was sort of kidding.
Your name does not come up on the caller ID. The reason I
know it's you is because I just recognized the phone number your name. Now,
some people's names do show up on the caller ID. So, for
example, when someone like like Shannon calls, when I say Shannon's on the
line, it's because her name shows up on the caller ID. But some
people, uh, sometimes it'll be a familiar phone number, but their name
doesn't come up, but yours is easy to remember your phone number, right,
right number for a while, I guess, Yes, how are you?
Oh, I'm not too bad? Good you are? What do you
do? Oh? I'm good? Yeah? What are you? Uh?
What are you up for? An entertainment report? I believe so. Yeah.
Well, I hope it's a good one. I do on Thursday.
I hope it's a good one. I hope it is informative and entertaining.
I'm gonna mentioned somebody and I think I've ever mentioned the radio before, So
that's a good time during the report, right, Oh, well, this
is exciting. I'm already on pins and needles. I'm gonna go ahead and
hit your intro. Here he was once, I'm around the way. Easy
you want to know about stock market crashes? COVID nineteen, drive buys,
celebrity gossip, Easy, gee's got you? Entertainment reports stacks wowes think nutting,
but a jeep, Thank baby back. Are you ready for stock?
Let's find out? Ready, let go? Anyway, I might have bumped
in this girl, I think once and they had that Pride Pride party over
by the oh yeah, right down the street from from First Church. They
had it because they have that restaurant there with the two fellows there. Well,
I hope you go ninety five. The grease out was a real hot
day. I hope you said excuse me when you bumped into her? See
what I did there? Yeah? I think she was playing up on the
stage area. There was Elie and if you right here from Manchester Jazzmine Man,
Jasmine Man. Yes, you asked me to play a sorrow today on
Facebook and I told her the I was gonna dedicate the show to her today.
S oh cool. Do you think she's listening right now? I don't
know. I've ever reached out to her as far as I'm sure she has
songs, but I reachurned to today. There might be on Google or something.
I do know anyway, Google, but the Google I reached out,
I told her played this only song aqufine is that cover song? But make
no difference. I guess she sings huh and I'm quite sure who's things that
song but me and neither. It's pretty good. Yeah, she's very talented.
I guess we can play at the end of the short report. Well,
actually, Zeg, I'm gonna meet you halfway once again. I will
play a Jasmine Man song for you, but not that one, because I
found one of her originals and I think it would be great to feature because
she's I think, an excellent songwriter. I think it would be great to
feature in one of her original songs. By the way, she's been on
she's been on Granite State of Mind, Rob as a Vetos show. That's
what I thought. I think, I think more than once. She In
fact, she played at the book release party at the Bookery a few years
ago for one Yeah, for Rob's book notes from the Last Breath Farm.
Jasmine played there there. Yes, and she has played at the hop Knot.
I believe more than once. Yeah, she just played there the other
day. According to uh a little retalt to me on Facebook, mantor there
I believe. On on twenty it's around the corner. Well, she has
a song There's a Little Bag. A couple of days ago. Well,
she has a song called Mountain Green, which she performed live on Rob's Show.
And that's actually what I'm what I'm gonna play or information trying to find
something. I'm like an internet sleuth, EAZG. I want to know who
your real father is. I can probably find out for you. I'm that
I retail during Facebook mess so I'll send me a link. I can find
us in a song. Great. Yes, speaking of guys, he's gonna
be playing all right tomorrow over the new Cafe La n at the north end,
right down the street from the back room there. It's on the north
side where Blake's used to be. I think everybody remembers that place. Oh
yeah, Blake's white. Alex bought it over from the other She's the same
mornings at Cafe laun. I'm sure what's been there for ten years? Huh.
I suspect you might have gone in there. I went to twice again
some coffee or something. So's trying to eat woo me. Yeah you no,
never, Okay, I know what. Guy loves that place. That's
why they never went there. If I'd got there a million times, uh
huh, damns, yep. I think it's pronounced bod, is it bod?
She's still singing, singing, singing up a storm by a great singer
here in town. She often performs at the hop Knot as well. Yeah,
I know that's great. I haven't seen her there at the hop Knot
by seeing the cafe on the run about a million times over the years.
Uh huh. Anyways, I didn't give a shout out to a guy.
I'm shout out. I know this guy. He's a big man, a
maccath fan. I sa to see him fisher Cat games, and I've ben't
bumped into him at the another thing, I say, Hey, how's it
going? John? So that was that was a putt in surprise. No
shout outs to John John Who? Johnson like the most common male name in
America, John Who. True, I don't always last naybody. He's the
biggest guy named John. M I guess you asked me if she's just got
married. I said, yeah, around the corner. There's no way,
I said, tried to get it to come here, but it didn't happen.
So if he's listening, he said, he's still doing that thing on
the radio. Said yeah, why not? All that's great? Yeah,
shout outs to John if you're listening. Yeah, all right, we'll go
to the big, big event here. It's coming right around the corner.
How to believe next Thursday, the uh it's gonna be I don't know how.
Yeah, it's gonna be a difficult feet against hid the bend, but
I know you'll figure it out. Next Thursday. Call it the world's largest
tacle tour. Over one hundred restaurants, and I've been told this year they're
gonna order more tackles. I guess last year they ran out, so that's
not good. Oh yeah, if you want to get some handover street,
I guess some some infant, yeah guests, some tackle to our merchandise,
hats, t shirts and as you can go there and support them, you
know, yeah, next week forty eight in cash, three dollars with the
tackles. Oh yes, it's rain or shining head. It might be a
little bit of rain, but hope won't ran on the parade, as they
always say. I think the key there is just don't let rain on your
taco. Nobody likes a saggy taco. A couple of years ago and right,
the weather wasn't too too too good, but it was a more opportunity
to get tacos because they weren't bumping into a lot of people anyway. Climan
and McCarthy was playing. That was great. I bet if I would talk
about the music, the sponsor is ninety two point five. All these events
are giving a veterans park. He might have heard this band and they should
be the headline. MS. Donner right local band here, Yes, very
talented gentleman nothing Jeffrey Keynes and band Stand, Frank Violey not all Best,
not Broken, and Colleen Green. None of those bands are anything familiar to
me, but I know I see Donner once and they at um right downtown
here at the right down the street from Calf of Iron losing but the end
of way that I started to play once in there. Boy, they're pretty
good obviously. That's been a band for a long time here. I mean,
I know Peter White's the big band. Oh yes, daughter A Yale
who was on That's Liver on here anymore. But she's a bigger doughter of
FM fandom of the story right yeah yeah, nick La Valley of course,
uh and uh some other some other yeah. Yeah. He's always busy,
Yes, yes, he's a very busy man, which is great. Yes,
I admire that. I want to check that out four to eight pm
obviously, then be next Thursday. And also it's also the day's Star Wars
day. Oh that's right, May the fourth, Wait, No fIF is
single the miles. It's gonna be a lot of people downtown supporting local business.
Yes, yes, you know a business. I'll think you speaking local
businesses. Don't forget too. I'm assuming the house I got a taco abandon.
It's a cover because right downtown Queen City cup gigs. Oh yes,
so tasty, so tasty, and I don't I don't they'll be involved because
they're over in VALLEYSI well go check them out. The business called about Creamland.
They are my friends here. So where's I could get a nice penny?
The boat with with ice cream and all that puckers? I said,
well you go with a cream does uh? I don't look, I don't
know the lay. He's ever been there before. But does that I cream
float and all that fun stuff? Does that Green City Cupcake? Do they
participate in taco to her? I believe they did a couple years ago.
And I can't speak for them going out there, obviously, but because I
guess the white, because why would they not a delicious cupcake taco And we
always say, what don't been a cupcake with nine degrees out? Oh that's
right on a on a hot day, nothing like a like a delicious cupcake.
Yeah true, All right, well, well I'll go on to the
next great thing here. Yeah, April the date. But she felt he
playing with playing, you know, he might have heard those big big machines.
There were a big machine. Oh the in the I'm born. I'll
forget about that stuff around or on the local Inhampster area and other bards.
I don't don't forget to check out of our new available on music called Smoke
on Spotify, Apple and all the platforms. And I'll just go into this
one because I talked about the other events that they're kind of far away,
so the focus on this one made made twenty tickets are available courseman dot com
called the Country crawled landsdowne Boston, right down around the corner from Fenway parkets
around the area called Country Fast and starts at ten ams, probably gonna go
on most of the day and ticket us there are thirty five dollars and if
you want to get extra lucky with the seats and you have a two x
dollars in pocket VIP or one hundred dollars and we'll go through the list one
more time. Why is that Andy Frost, Samantha Rees, Morgan Johnson,
Keith Hornson, Maddie Ryan, Catfish, Rob Pagno, Mattson, Nick Cashie
Ld Thrower In, Lisa Smith and back Roads and Southern City bands. So
you'll see a lot of great acts. And of course you can go an
April courseman dot com for those tickets. And then of course he's playing every
Wednesday Vermont and Kellington River Shop. This tickets the event at six o'clock and
I'm assuming we should play there, everyone saying until he doesn't play there,
right, that is how that works. Yes, right here in Manchester you're
gonna be if you're looking for us, some great music right here in Manchester
the Goat. You might have heard that place right down. Yeah, yes,
I am she's back. Oh. I won't go through all the dates,
but it's a free event. Will always make sure you throw some money
into the donation jar and to the waitress waitresses, always say waitresses, Yes,
I used to go obviously. In the next tent is May twenty nine,
and we won't go into all the dates because the uh yeah, they're
down the road, and then we'll go on to uh wrap it up almost
here you go out with the Katie Dobbins. Yes, Katie played the other
day, but as too, that was yesterday, so we won't talk about
that, right, that wouldn't make sense May thirty for us at fifteen dollars
per ticket or the songwriters round up. She would like to do an these
things with Justin Coe and Holly for in Meredith. Of course there obviously take
an event, and there's two many events in May. May tend at a
lot leaving room session in Meredith and hosting Lance in the late at six thirty.
And then there's one more. I got the right right during places that
may teams at five o'clock already after work in Manchester, almost say another free
event, but don't I get to us throw some money into the donors and
took the waits and waitresses at the cur our galley. I prot that down
again. We won't go into all the other events because they're into the summertime,
right, so we'll get those another day in the summer. Events going
all the way until August. Wow, here September and September. You see,
we should go the way once into oh yeah, almost to the end
of September is great. Keeps the lady busy and doing what she loves doing
almostly. Yes, she's good at it, great at actually, yes,
and then we'll put up here man mccagia. A lot of stuff going on,
or as he's all all married down, which is great. Yeah,
you're happy about that. You just really well as you I'm sorry, Christina
sister Beach or Christian Beach. We're on Spotify, up on all the platforms.
She wrote the song called smoking Mirrors. Yes, with Christine and Christian
not Christine. If you got a lot of things, A lot of things
going on, but probably doesn't want to be called Christine deals because the is
this too much? Too much? A lot of shows going on? He's
married in flores he said, why not do some gigs down there, right,
make a few works of dollars before she comes back to on tennessee.
So of course I think so too. She's well loved wherever she goes.
Yes, okay, well that's the and the reporting. I'm looking forward to
hearing that song, all right, very good easy, Well, thank you

Blanchard is in the chat. Hello. Jay Fed of course from the great
state of Vermont joins us. Crystal, says Peter Pappas plays would be a
tongue twister for Cindy Brady Brady Bunch reference. If Peter White is listening,
I'm sure he appreciates that there's a book. Oh maybe he's not here anymore.
Maybe he took it home. There was a book here of Brady Bunch
trivia. Actually at one point here in the studio behind the desk here,
Scott Robinson joins us in the chatwoman says, now this is entertainment, a
new affirm of the spark from of course checking in from Greensboro, North Carolina,
says, good afternoon. Hashtag Matt, we said, how are you
doing high? Hashtag Crystal we say to you from us Hey. Hashtag Texas
Mike, we say to you, we said you are going to be our
good manager producer. We said, going to be. I thought that was
already a done deal. I thought Texas Mike was already on board. Jay
Fed says, I never met a cupcake. I didn't like you're referring to,
of course Easyg's entertainment report. He was talking about tacos, you know,
the taco tours coming up, and then knock Queen City Cupcake Crystals suggested
maybe they have a dessert taco there. I'll tell you what, I cannot
eat that stuff. I can't eat anything. I don't think I'm ever again
eating a cupcake or any kind of cake and anything with that much sugar in
it. I recently I had gone a long time without eating anything like that
anyway. I don't have much of a sweet tooth to begin with. I
did when I was a kid. I don't anymore, and haven for a
while. But it was somebody's birthday and I had a piece of cake for
the first time in a long time, never again. That was it.
That was it. I told Jenny. I said, I'm done ever eating
anything like this. What happened was I ate this piece of cake. It
was delicious, But the stomach ache that I had immediately afterward, it was
clear to me. It was my body telling me, hey man, we
don't ingest cake anymore. We got used to not having cake, and now
you're having cake, and it was. It was the strangest stomach ache I've
ever had. It wasn't like a normal stomach ache. It felt different and
in a very bad way. It felt like it was almost like heartburn,
but in my stomach. It's very hard to describe. It was a sensation.
It was a kind of stomach ache I'd never had before in my life.
And I just said, that's it. I'm never eating anything like this
again. So that that broke me of any inclination to eat any any cake
or anything with a lot of sugar like that. No, no, thank
you. So I don't think I'll be eating any cupcakes anytime soon. A
Crystal says, maybe the cupcake cupcake people make a different a dessert taco cake,
taco shell with a with an icing or ice cream filling, maybe some
chocolate, caramel, strawberry or marshmallow sauce. That actually sounds kind of disgusting
to me. Maybe I'd feel differently about it had I not had that bad
experience with the cake. Rick Smith joins us in the Facebook lave chat.
He says, I hope there will be many porta potties near the tacos.
I don't know. I don't know how that works exactly. I've never uh
participated in Taco Tour because I'm on the air when it starts, and then
by the time I get off the air and get out there, there's huge
lines everywhere. So you gotta get in there early, you know what I
mean. Easyg is back on the line. Hello, Yeah, look at
my report if I got one taking important thing walk against hunger for the Yeah.
Yeah. May twenty first is for the charities of the Soup Kitchen and
all that stuff that you can. Yeah, I can sign up a noontime.
There's a couple of hours. I don't know. It's a little bit
walk three and a half miles and the jolly old time there would be some
food after hot dogs and Coca Cola soda. Papa has to call it in
chips so many which I that is very you and everybody else on the station
very much. Yes, ma, any first, yep, very good.
I'm sorry to hear about your sigar thing. Are you interesting? Yeah,
he's sure you're not diabetic or something. I am sure, yes, yeah,
I don't know. It was just very strange. I think it was
just because I hadn't eaten anything like that in a long time, so eating
that was just uh, it was nasty and my body just rejected it.
That's weird. I guess you gotta stay were from the cigar retreats. I
guess, I guess. So. Yeah, I'm sorry to hear that.
Yes, oh yeah, not known. I'll be hanging out all right,
Eric, bye bye, all right, very good. Yeah, So walk
against Hunger. That is a wonderful and very important event. You should have
known by now, easy do let's see um Scott Robinson says in the chat
room, I heard the Hulkster is going to make an appearance at the Taco
tour. I don't think that's true. Jenny is in the chatroom and says
shalom, peeps, R I'm late. And also Eric Street joins us in
the Chatwoman says, yo, hello Eric. Yeah. Scott says we need
to stop forgetting stuff for the Entertainment Report. Yes, I agree. Also,
our friend Miriam banishes in the Facebook live chat. Hello Miriam. It
was nice to see her on the show yesterday. We had a really interesting
discussion about autism, and I got to ask some some questions about things that
i'd i'd wondered about on the subject. Also, we're gonna be I should
mention too, we're gonna be. I heard a lot of positive feedback on
our segment with Eric Pilcher yesterday, so we're gonna try to make that kind
of a regular thing on the show on Wednesdays. Eric is going to be
joining us, not Wednesday of next week because we have that already booked,
but beginning the following Wednesday, we're gonna have Eric Pilcher join us on on
Wednesdays to talk about media and media drama and you know, of course this
week was a great way to start it off with the firings of both Tucker
Carlson and On Lemon. But we're going to UM, We're gonna start making
a regular thing. You know, there's always plenty to talk about, and
we'll see what else we end up talking about too. But that will be
UM one week from Wednesday of next week. Next week, next Wednesday we
have Heather Stockwell from Rights and Democracy coming in. But the following week we'll
have Eric Pilcher on for the first hour every Wednesday, So that should be
great. I think what we're gonna do is so our guest is early Hello,
sir, good good. We're gonna go ahead, and I'm anxious.
I'm anxious to get him in here and here and play for us and get
to know him. So we're going to take a break. We'll take our
break early. Oh. A new affirm of the Spark says we will definitely
whoops WHOA new affirm of the Spark is very chatty. He says, we
will definitely true be performing this Sunday afternoon. We will be performing at Center
City Park, downtown Greensboro, Karaoke at four to seven pm. We say,
oh, and Miriam says, thanks for having me on the show yesterday.
It was amazing to get to talk about something so important to me.
Yes, absolutely, absolutely, I enjoyed. I enjoyed that very much,
very much. All right, let's go ahead and as we go to break,
well, let's play this. We'll play a little something from Peter Pappas
here. I love this song and we'll have him tell us all about it.
But this is called ain't life a struggle? From the great Peter Pappas.
Take a listen, ain't lot to struggle. I'm feeling depressed, turned
my back to the road. Just let me me. Chris thought out like
someone wanted pages from a book day called life throughn out with no concerned live
knowing what the story he might have told. So I need to find the
answer of the ending to this book. Have I lived my life without those
three regrets? I wouldn't make a difference the story of my life. I
would it eat and matter if some pages were lost out Funny Coast. These

sir, but hanging out in the corner with the giant cardboard Peter Whitehead,
Peter Pappas is here. How are you, sir? Good? Matt,
how are you doing good? Good? Did you notice the do you feel
like he's staring at you the giant cardboard Peter Whitehead a little bit? Yeah,
yeah, he's kind of kind of looking off into the sunset here.
I have to tell you when that first arrived in the studio. Initially I
found it a little bit off putting because I felt like he was staring at
me, you know. And I love Peter, but it took a little
while to get used to the giant cardboard Peter Whitehead. But now I find
him oddly comforting. It's like he's he's just sort of watching over everything,
and it's it's quite nice. And uh I gazed into his eyes, and
I find it quite soothing. I can understand that he looks like he's very
inviting. Yes, yes, and we were talking. By the way,
he had texted me. I think it was yesterday. He sent me a
text and said that you were his biology teacher when he was in high school.
Yeah, I was, yeah, yeah, yeah, that was a
while ago, all right. So I don't know how much you remember because
it was a while ago, obviously, But what can you do You remember
anything about what kind of a student he was or are you legally prohibited from
sharing that with us? So I remember peeping a really good student. Yeah,
oh yeah, oh that's so fun. I wish I had a story
for you, man, But yeah, no, I understand, I understand.
You know, I'm always looking for the dirt. Yeah, but uh
did you um, do you do you actually remember him from yesh? Yeah,
okay, I do, I do, yeah, because he was you
know, he's so tall that he probably shods out in your mind for that
reason. He's like, what is he like Sixthtown or something? He was,
he was tall. Yeah. And uh, the other thing too that
he told me is that you used to play in the band Headshop with the
one and only don Te Tibbots exactly. Yeah. That was Those years were
great. I mean, what a what a blast? Uh. You know,
the music was great. You know, we did songs that we loved,
from the one hit Wonders to the you know psychedelic era. It was.
It was great, you know, and you know, keep ta kept
us laughing all the time. It was. It was just a fun,
fun thing. Yeah, I was in I was in it for sixteen years
and then I, uh, you know, dropped out. And you know,
they continued, they continue to play for for a while a long time,
maybe even maybe even twelve years before. And I would sit in every
once in a while when they needed someone on base. But or I'd go
to see him and asked me, you know, sit in do a couple
of songs, so it was always great. Yeah, yeah, that was
a that was a great uh experience. Yeah, why why did you why
did you leave? The band? Just got busy with other things I did,
and you know, I've been playing professionally since seventy two, yes,
so you know, and uh, you know, I mean I was gone
almost every weekend, so I think it was time to give my wife a
break. I got you. Yeah. By the way, so our friend
Jason Fetterson we call him j fed but he's uh currently living in the great
state of Vermont. He says that you were his biology teacher too. Do
you remember Jason Federson? Yeah? I do. I remember the name.
YEP, I'll be damn yeah. I'm really good with names, but like
faces, you know, especially now students come up and they've changed so much,
you know. Oh yeah, uh he says, Uh, mister Pappas,
are there any body parts that get oxygen directly or just through blood?
A biology question? Wow, you weren't expecting that. Worry. Oh no,
I got music on the brave. He can't just shift gears. You
can give me his email. I'll get back to him one that one.
He's not a dancing bear. Jay fed. He can't just uh give you
what you wanted at any given moment. Oh that's funny though, that he
that he asked you that. I mean, even bone has cells that need
oxygen, So I don't know. I don't know what he's conferring to.
Okay, okay, um I was, He says, Haha, you are
the best. I was. I was terrible at science in schools expect I
certainly wasn't. I wouldn't know. Do you still teach? Uh no?
No, Uh my wife are also taught too. She taught art, so
uh we both we both build an oh eight? Okay, yeah, yeah,
gotcha. Um, well, I'm I'm dying to hear you played.
Do you want to? Um? Do you want to play a couple of
songs? We'll we'll chat some more. Yep, sure, cool, cool,
I'll let you Uh what what are you? I don't know? If
you want to let me pull that guitar up? There we go? That
sounds good? Yeah, I thought I would. This is seventy three Martin
and I I got recently got totally rehauled. Haven't had a chance to play
it, so this is like it's uh, this is the virgin thing.
That's a seventy three Martin. Wow. Yeah, we had um, we
had somebody else on the show recently. Who who? Uh? Oh Andrea
Pequin. Do you know her? Yeah? So Andrea was a next student
and she she played in my uh my son's band or the band uh with
my son uh back in high school and then uh like first a second year
of college and then she went out and did her old thing. So yeah,
we go way back. Oh yeah, yeah, Andree is a sweetheart.
The reason I thought of her is because she she also she was on
the show last week and she had an old guitar. Oh and and she
was talking about how you know a great deal you know, because it's she
explained it, like there's a warmth like old guitars as long as they're well
taken care of, they have a warmth to them that comes with with time.
Yeah, and the aging process too of the wood, you know.
So you know, like a lot of tailors are really they sound a kind
of high endy, but over time they'll warm up a little bit. That's
exactly what she said, right, That's exactly what she said. Oh that's
funny. Wow. Yeah, Angie is great man. Yeah, yeah,
great singers. She's got it, she's got it going great and good for
her. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, all right, sir, whenever you're
ready. Okay. So I thought i'd do this, you know, thinking
about all my song list, I pulled the couple out here that I like
singing. Okay, Crimson flame pass Soon, my years flowing high, my

can't see you right now. I saw you at the beginning of the show,
but now that I'm listening to you on the radio, you've got a
very distinct Paul Simon ish voice. Yeah. I get a lot of that
when I play out, like yeah, I can imagine, yeah, yeah,
I was gonna do. Uh, I'm gonna do a couple of one
Paul Simon tune at least, but maybe another. But uh yeah, and
you know, usually I I don't know, Matt, if you if you
had heard that, uh you know, I usually play with a harmonizer pedal.
Oh yes, right, and you know and uh so you know the
harmonizer pedal. I call it Garfuncle because that's basically you know, it's always
like a third above sell. But anyway, but I think I can do
a couple of Simon tunes without Garfuncle. Nice. Nice, Well, Paul
Simon certainly did exactly, yeah, exactly for sure. Well, it's great
to see you, mister Pappas and great hearing you, and I look forward
to hearing the uh Paul Simon stuff that you're gonna play later. Thanks Paul,

Geez I wonder who else is gonna come out of the woodwork here?
Um, Jenny is asking in the chat room have you been on Rob as

check it out there. Yeah yeah, yeah, all right. Well,
since you're you're set up with the harmonica, you want to don't replace some
more? Yeah, I might have to t oh yeah, yeah, yeah,

great show, Matt, Thank you so much anytime. Bye bye, all
right, my old friend, Slick, Oh wow, I do miss him.
I mean that sincerely. I haven't seen him in a long time.
He and I've done a lot of work together over the years. Wow,
for over many years. Oh my god. If you're just joining us,
we are live with Peter Pappas is in studio here and he's been playing some
songs for us. Sounds absolutely amazing, is there, um, Peter?
Is there? Like when when you were playing, uh, when you played
the Neil Young song, I was I was just thinking. I've heard people
say that Neil Young is kind of difficult to cover? Is that true,
like because he's a little unconventional in terms of how he writes songs. And
yes, um, I do a ton of Neil Young, and uh yeah,
some of like Heart of Gold is rather hard to sing. I don't
know why. Uh maybe it's the register. But also you know, he
sings really high. So but I mean that's you know, easy to fix
because you can do it out of another key. But m yeah, I
was gonna ask, you know, one like you transposed it to a different
key. No, that's the actual key he does it. That is yeah,
okay, But um, there's a you know, some other songs that
I do, uh not. Actually most of the songs I do are actually
in the key that he does it on the record, But uh, Uh.
Yeah. I watched a clip of him do a song um u,
an old Buffalo Springfield song, and I was going to actually try but um
when he was in Buffalo Springfield and he actually did it out of another key,
which was interesting. Oh okay, but yeah yeah yeah. Neil Young
is not you know, easy to do in terms of vocals, you know.
Yeah, and even some of his guitar work, you know, if
you want to get it just right, he adds these little tiny things in
between verses and stuff, which is really cool. Yeah, so you know,
you got to pick up on that. So yeah, yeah, he
has a unique approach. Yea. His solos are very different, Yeah,
that's for sure. Oh yeah, yeah yeah yeah. Um. I was
asking to too about the harmonica because I've always been fascinated by you know,
because it occurred to me when you're playing the harmonica while you're playing the guitar.
I mean, you're literally really playing two instruments at once, did you,
Um, was that a challenge for you to learn to do that or
or does it come as naturally as singing and playing at the same time.
Um. It took a little bit, but it kind of fell into place,
you know, So yeah, yeah, you know, I recently started
doing a duo again with um, a long time BAM mate. We go
back to well, our first gig together was in seventy two. We've been
in an acoustic trio, played full time in seventy four, you know,
lived in newber Report, traveling all around, so that was great and so
uh and then you know, we played off and on as a duo,
and then recently I decided to get back together with him. So occasionally we
do a duo and I'm you know, I still do my solo thing,
which is great, so I have the best of both worlds. But you
know what, the duo gives me a chance to play some leads and also
break out my mandolin which I left Oh no kidding, Oh you play the
mandolin too. How did you put any other instruments that you play? I
know you bass. You said you played bass and head shop, right,
Yeah, that's that's about all I play on the tracks, you know when
I when I do my own stuff, so it's you know, mando,
harmonica and guitar and bass. So um yeah, so that's a lot of
fun. You know, I get to you know, rock it out a
little bit, so um, yeah, so we're actually we're playing as a
duo tomorrow night at the Holy Grail as a little plug if Oh yeah,
yeah, Ben Epping, So if you want to come and hear that,
and uh what do you do the full night you do? Uh yeah,
it's six to nine. Okay, yeah, sorry about that, six to
nine. I always leave out the time and well it's on my on my
Facebook page. So yeah, yeah, so that'd be fun and uh um,
you know I'm around you Just check out Peter Pappas Music on Facebook and
you can find out where I'm playing. Yeah. Oh, by the way,
Paulic says, DJ Steve sat in with Buffalo Springfield. Do you know
DJ Steve Steve Light No, Yeah, he's he's kind of a legend around.
Well, he's one of our co hosts on Retrospectrum Radio. But he
uh yeah, he sat in with Buffalo Springfield. He he did a lot
of work with fog Hat. He knows those guys very very well. Really
yeah, yeah, I think he actually filled in for one of them,
one of them was sick and they were playing in Manchester. Yeah, it's
a whole thing, but uh yeah, yeah, DJ Steve he's he's a
legendary around here. Um oh you know what I wanted to ask you too.
So you told me a little bit about um off air the your originals,
right, we played we played a couple of them earlier. We played
at Life a Struggle and uh, You're in My Head. I really like
both songs. You're in my Head though, in particular, something about it
really connects with me. I love that song. Oh thank you, so
it gets stuck in my head. I mean I just that's that's a great
song. Did did you write both of those? Uh just by yourself?
Or yeah? All yeah, all those songs you're written by me? Uh
that song in particular. Um so, uh, you know, my my
wife asked me one day, she goes, you know, you've playing a
long time, and you've written some stuff. I've written a lot of stuff
that I haven't recorded. Yea, And she said, but she never wrote
a song about me, and so that song is about her. And the
first time I saw her, it's literally that's what happened. She was walking
in the crowd and I just could I just saw no one else but her,
you know, And that's the first first and then uh, you know,
we were off and on for a while and then we finally connected that
last time when I was playing and people might remember this back in the day
when I was playing at the Salty Dog in Manchester, which was down by
where the old the bank. There's a bank now, but it was on
the corner of Bridge and Elm Street there right in that area. So that's
you know, that was the old Tryad Salty Dog, Red Onion and then
it was another place I forget, I keep forgetting the name of that,
but anyway, so, uh so, yeah, she was, she was
there. She was working as a waitress there, so oh wow. And
that's and that's when we finally uh you know, she chased me down and
then so I kind of knew it was serious at that point, you know,
yeah, yeah, that's really cool. And uh fortunately, you know,
when when I went out to La to visit my son, who's who,
like I told you, he's a LA musician. Yeah, he brought
me into his studio and he called a bunch of his musician friends and they
came and played on it and I played the song for the really interesting thing
this is how really good musicians they are. I played the song for them
twice, and then we set up live. Everybody was you know, uh,
the guitar player, the drummer, Christopher, my son, Christopher played
bass on that. And I was in another you know, uh studio,
no, I mean another uh uh forget what they're called my boo booth.
Yeah, yeah, thank you, and uh and we just played it a
couple of times and then I overdubbed the harmonies and then Christopher played, Um,
he played a melotron on it, yeah, because studio had an old
melot like an original melotron, so he played some keys on it too,
and uh and then uh, I sent it to um, another guy that's
played on my records, and he uh he mixed it and mastered it and
you know, sent it back to me and we tweaked it a little bit.
I wrote some notes and said, now I want I want the reverb
turned up where this turned down. And then that's how it came the boat.
So oh yeah. So uh and and this this fall, I hope
to have another song ready and we're going to do it again and hopefully all
those guys would be around. You know, I told you Jack Lawless,
who tours with the Jonas Brothers, play drums. Yeah, that's cool.
Yeah, that's awesome, and then we all go and hang out. It's
just great man. Like I told you, it's just a it's a different
scene out there. Yeah, yeah, no doubt. Oh. DJ Steve
is in the chat room and says, does your guests remember the Morning Sun
Coffee House? The Morning Sun Coffee House. I don't. I don't remember
that. Where can you give me a little bit more, a few more
clues? Yeah, give us give us more clues there, DJ Steve and
Tom Blanchard says, uh, salty dog owned by Joey Ferrety Fred FARRETTI my
my big brother's best friend. Oh yeah, see I I didn't grow up
in Manchester, so I don't you know. I'm always learning. I'm always
learning more of the history of the city, and you know I live here
now. But um. DJ Steve also said, good afternoon. Matt stops
spreading rumors. He's very humble about his experience, like with fog Hat,
you know. But uh, well, we'll we'll we'll see. Uh,
we'll see afterward if he if he answers your question. But do you want
to play another song? Sure, we're dying to hear more. I say
we because everybody in the chat room is loving it. Oh, let me
turn that pike down there we go. God, I love the way that
guitar sounds. Yeah, it's it's yeah, I'm actually impressing it's mind.
Yeah, okay, let's let's let's try this right him. Yeah, it's
smoothed a little bit. That's the other problem too. You got you gotta
put this, especially if you want to bend notes. If it's like a
little sideways, you just can't get that, you know, total suction on
the thing's right. Yeah, So I do this a little bit different.
That's more of a I heard this um uh, this Americana band do it,
and I love their version of it. And because I used to do
it really fast, but I love this version of this song. A little
girl with your dad, does he go leave you love? I've gotta strange
his side. I haven't a little girl that he go to. Does he
do to you the things that I do? Let me take you high?
I haven't find It's like someone cannot be at the end of the sections,
ball through the middle of the sky, when the night put the ship's supping
wed, and the free train running through the middle of my head. Let
me take you high Lab and five Lab and the five It's like someone taking
Nappy be Idi and now and got a sections ball through the middle of the
sky when the night wake up, the ship's supping red and the free train
running through the middle of my Let me take you High. I'm in the
fire. It's like someone cooking Nappy b G and Nolan had a six cents
battle through the middle of my scalp when the night wake up and the sheets
sucking red and free train rooman through the middle of my head. Let Me
take you High. Yeah, I like the way you do that. That
sounds really good. Thank you really good. Yeah, Melanie La Liberty and
the chat room said love this song. Oh and we did get an answer
from DJ Steve So the Morning Sun Cafe says it was on Amhurst Street in
the mid seventies. It was on the top floor above the paint store and
had a mural on the side of the building. Oh so he's talking about
Stan's Paint Store, right. Yeah, so it was on the third floor.
Oh wow, he says. A guy named John Richardson ran it.
Oh um, it's not one of the places we played when we when we
played in Manchester is mostly the uh, the Onion, Red Onion and uh
occasionally a Salty Dog as But we were you know, in seventy four when
we started the trio. We played till like eighty four for ten years.
Oh okay, so and then we came into Manchester pretty much just for the
Onion I think. Um, so, now, how often do you play
out now? Uh? Uh four or five times a month? Oh that's
pretty good. Yeah, so you're you're pretty busy. Yeah, yeah,
yeah, it's great. Do you um, do you have any idea how
many songs? You know? Probably hundreds, I would imagine, right,
Um, no, on my list, I have about seventy oh okay,
yeah, about seventy seventy tunes that you know. I mean I know a
lot more than that, but yeah, stuff I can choose from, you
know, playing out and then you know, some songs you just like doing
and you seem to do them a little bit better, so you know,
you tend to lean towards those on a given night, you know. Yeah,
do you do anything obscure that maybe you know as a cover but people
don't necessarily know it's like or some people don't necessarily know it's a cover When
you play it. Um, let me think on that for a second.
So I know some people, you know, like they'll they'll do something that
maybe a lot of people don't know it wasn't necessary. You know, maybe
it's from a mainstream artist, but wasn't necessarily a mainstream hit, and they'll
play it and and and some people don't realize that it's a cover and they
assume it's an original. Yeah, exactly. Um, let's see man um
Yeah, like, um, there's uh, is there a hermit's hermit song
that I know? Oh? No kidding? Yeah, yeah, I mean
if you want me to do that. Usually this requires sort of the harmonize
the harmonize. So I was gonna do, uh, you know, something
a little bit more modern for the uh, younger listening crowd if you don't
mind, Oh absolutely, I would love it. Yeah. So this is
a I think this is um the best song by Ed Shearon. Oh okay,
yeah, and you know I don't I don't listen to him that often.
Yeah, but um, this song just hits me. So um anyway,
Oh, I bet, I bet I know what it is. We'll
see if I'm right. Stop the clock gets amaze. You should see the
little lot dancers off your million colors of his golden red satted the morning his
favor, the sun's reflected by the coffee had mies of cotton. Games over
again. We will love chrunking on mierical, try to find myself in mod

like hear a version better nothing again, said Sharon, But uh no,
I your voice with that song is fantastic. Absolutely by the way, her
ears must have been burning. Andrea paquin Is in the chat room. Oh
nice, Yeah, yeah, yep. Andrea, yep, she's she's enjoying
it. Um, let me ask you this is this is a I think
we have a request. So Ronda Ferverro, who's joining us from California,
she says, oh, man, I'll bet he would cover Elvis Costello beautifully.
He has that awesome quality to his voice. Do you know any Elvis
Costello? Um, because you do have a yeah, you do kind of
have a voice like yeah. Actually, um no, but Randa, that's
a great suggestion, and I will add a couple. Yeah, that's a
great suggestion. No, actually we I don't, but I like Elvis Costello
a lot. Oh yeah, yeah absolutely. Um. Now do you when
you when you play out, do you do you work in any of your
originals or do you stick to the covers or how do how do you approach
that? Uh? No, I just know I I stick to the covers
because um, I don't know. I you know, like you know,
one of the songs has mandolin in it. So unless I I am now
working with um um some some loops. Yeah, so I I bought a
pedal recently and it's half of its loop and half of its drums. So
I added some drums to certain songs. And then um, I looped uh
um yellow by h Cole play so I can play my mandolin to that.
So again I changed it around to a little blue grassie. Yeah, yeah,
so um. As a matter of fact, let's see here, I
jumped to cost I spam cost you want? Would you like me to do
that? Yeah? If you want, Yeah, I'd love to hear it.
Yeah. Let's see if I can remember the words. I can't.
I can't remember the first line. Man, you gotta get a you gotta
get a telepropter like Aussie. Um. Let's see. Oh I got it.
Okay, look at the starts, see yuh the shine you in love
things you do? It was called yellow. So I came out along and
I wrote this song. It was called yellow your skin. Oh yeah,
your skin did do something you different? You know I love you? So
you know I love you. So I jumped across, I swam across spark
not things should do. It was called yellow. I live. I to
lie for you, not being you. It was called yellow your skin.
Yeah, your skinny? Move to something you differ? I do? I
know I need myself try no, I believe myself trying. It's true.
See how they shine for you, See how they shine for a the shine
for you. See how they shine for you, See how to shine fore
shine for see hardy shine for beautiful, beautiful. If you're just joining us,
Peter Pappas is here with us in studio. He's been playing a lot
of songs for us. We've been talking a bit. If you have any
questions or anything at all for our our our guest, Peter Pappas. You've
got a little bit of time left, but we're almost out of time,
so if you're gonna get in with something to do it quick. Six ZO
three two five O six Z seven is a studio line six zo three two
five zero six Z seven. What's the um? What's the hardest song to
play? Is there a particular song that you do that you that you just
found really challenging, particularly challenging to learn? Um? Oh uh, well,
one of the songs by I do the song by Chris Isaac what's his
what's his hit thing? Yeah, and that that's really tough to sing.
And we're working on a song as a duo right now. Actually, we
had rehearsal today for tomorrow and we're working on a Steven Still song that he
did in Buffalo Springfield called Bluebird, and uh, you know, I'm trying
to learn the lead of that song vervatim and it's crazy. It's Stills with
just a great guitar player, so you know. So, you know,
some songs are vocally hard to sing, and then other songs are hard to
you know, play on the guitar or an instrument, you know kind of
thing. So um, yeah, I mean I usually steer away from songs
that I know I just you know, can't do vocally, you know.
Um, but fortunately, I'm, um, I'm really kind of able to
do all the songs that I really love and used to listen to. So
and I'm still successful playing out So yeah, it's you know, I mean,
I'm I'm I'm you know, I'm blessed in that way. So yeah,
yeah, DJ Stephen the chat room says really enjoyed the tunes, Peter,
thanks, and Tom Blanchard said, great show today, and yeah,
you're getting a lot of love in the chat room and Jenny is sharing in
the chat links. Uh. Of course you're all of your all of your

spending more time playing around with my new pedal and try to get some loops
down. But uh, I'll get back to writing too. And I you

is double indemnity. Oh a new name in the chat room. Dave Pushy
says, uh, Peter the Thief with three inception with three interceptions. Yeah
well uh quick quick response to that. So Dave actually played drums in one
of our high school bands. Oh so, Dave and I go way back,
and uh we played football together for Central High School. I was I
was a cornerback. Okay, So I had three interceptions in the Nashua game
when we played with them. So that's where that came. Oh yeah,
yeah, so yeah, of course, like yeah yeah, football in music,
right, very good, very good. But anyway, yeah, hi
