Matt Connarton Unleashed: Journey resolves legal issues
Speaker 1: Well, well, we'll move on because we have another speaking
Speaker 1: of people not getting along well in music. No, but
Speaker 1: see this is positive because this is an example of
Speaker 1: people being able to put their differences aside for the music.
Speaker 1: Because as the Gallagher brothers obviously have had to put
Speaker 1: their differences aside to reunite Oasis and do this tour,
Speaker 1: the members of Journey, our friends Jonathan Kane and Neil
Speaker 1: Sean have also put their difference. Well, actually I don't
Speaker 1: think they've put their differences aside necessarily, but there has
Speaker 1: been a daytunt because if you've been paying any attention
Speaker 1: to this, you know that they're in the middle of
Speaker 1: this stadium tour. Journey is they're out on the road
Speaker 1: with Death Leopard, so doing a stadium tour it's big business.
Speaker 1: And you've got band members suing each other while they're
Speaker 1: on tour and over some disagreements of how money is
Speaker 1: spent by the company that they are directors of. They
Speaker 1: each own fifty percent or have fifty percent control I
Speaker 1: should say not necessary early ownership, but Jonathan Kane and
Speaker 1: Neil Sewan each having fifty percent control over this company,
Speaker 1: and they each like to spend a lot of money
Speaker 1: and then they get mad at the other and it's
Speaker 1: a whole thing. We talked about this a couple of
Speaker 1: weeks ago on the show. This is being reported by
Speaker 1: I like to give the site credit Digitalmusicnews dot com,
Speaker 1: which is a great site. Don't Stop Believing. In a
Speaker 1: Journey World tour. The band is back on the road
Speaker 1: as members settle their legal differences. Really and here's how
Speaker 1: they did it. And this is one of the ocons.
Speaker 1: Now that's that's impressive. It's all good. It's all good,
Speaker 1: it says, don't Stop Believing is in the possibility of
Speaker 1: a unified Journey, which has seemingly seen members Jonathan Kane
Speaker 1: and Neil Sean put their latest dispute to rest. There
Speaker 1: will be others, I'm sure in the future, as history
Speaker 1: tells us. But that dispute we reported closer to August,
Speaker 1: So the beginning of August so going on about a
Speaker 1: month centered on touring related to disagreements between Kin and Sean,
Speaker 1: with each possessing a fifty percent interest in the companies
Speaker 1: responsible for handling journeys dealings. The veteran musicians have for
Speaker 1: years clashed over expenses and a whole lot else. As
Speaker 1: it pertains to one of the companies Freedom twenty twenty.
Speaker 1: The two couldn't agree on matters including tour accommodation expenditures,
Speaker 1: security costs, the employment status of various personnel, and more.
Speaker 1: Alleged unilateral spending on the part of Sean was a
Speaker 1: particularly significant issue. Caine described, Yeah, when we talked about
Speaker 1: this before, we talked about you know, spending, you know,
Speaker 1: ten thousand dollars station of a ten thousand dollars hotel room. Yep, yep.
Speaker 1: I bet that really exists too. Yeah, no, I believe
Speaker 1: it and maxed out company credit cards. And the thing
Speaker 1: about personnel differences, you know, apparently on the current tour,
Speaker 1: you know, one of the members, Sean or Kine might
Speaker 1: fire somebody and and the other member is upset and
Speaker 1: hires that person back. Just a lot of dysfunction, I
Speaker 1: read too. There was even some disagreement between them about
Speaker 1: whether or not Jonathan Kane should be playing guitar on
Speaker 1: the song Wheel in the Sky. Why not, Well, he's
Speaker 1: technically he's the keyboard player, but he does play guitar.
Speaker 1: He does, so what don't play guitar? Well, he plays
Speaker 1: on somebody else's toes. He plays he plays rhythm guitar
Speaker 1: on Stone and Love. There's I think there's a couple
Speaker 1: Stone and Love, but but he has to write that
Speaker 1: song would sound really strange with one guitar, So he
Speaker 1: plays rhythm guitar on that. Neil Sean, of course the
Speaker 1: lead player on that and I Live. I think he's
Speaker 1: always also played on Wheel and the Sky. But I
Speaker 1: guess there was a disagreement, like Sean didn't want him
Speaker 1: to play guitar on Wheel in the Sky or something
Speaker 1: really weird. So according to this, so it says that
Speaker 1: hang ups which brought about the cancelation of the UK
Speaker 1: leg of the band's ongoing tour, came to light in
Speaker 1: late July, and a late July filing submitted by Kin
Speaker 1: to the Delaware Chancery Court. In the action, the seventy
Speaker 1: four year old asked the court to appoint a third
Speaker 1: party director to Freedom twenty twenty so as to remedy
Speaker 1: the deadlock between him and Sean, who held all voting
Speaker 1: rights over so many of the famed rock group's business moves.
Speaker 1: Given the fifty to fifty voting rights structure, it was proving,
Speaker 1: excuse me, excuse me, exceedingly difficult to agree on operational
Speaker 1: details and to appoint another director, Cain explained in more words. Furthermore,
Speaker 1: the announcement arrived after Sean last week acknowledged that he
Speaker 1: and Kin quote don't always see eye to eye on
Speaker 1: everythings or sometimes on pretty much anything unquote, but the
Speaker 1: seventy year old also expressed a desire to bring on
Speaker 1: the third party director and move pat friction on the
Speaker 1: tour as the tour could proceed, So the tour could
Speaker 1: proceed running With that point, the fresh statement from Kine's
Speaker 1: legal team reads, quote, mister Shawn is prohibited from unilaterally
Speaker 1: acting on behalf of the company. In all future, deadlock
Speaker 1: between mister Kane and mister Sean will be broken by
Speaker 1: the vote of the custodian, so just a third party
Speaker 1: to be a tiebreaker. Effectively, as scheduled this tour, we'll
Speaker 1: see Journey perform in San Diego tonight, play four more
Speaker 1: state side shows through September eighth, head to Brazil and
Speaker 1: Chile later that same month, and then entertained fans in
Speaker 1: Japan while in New October. At present, the group doesn't
Speaker 1: appear to have rescheduled the previously noted UK dates, which
Speaker 1: had originally been teed up to begin in October as well. Well, yeah,
Speaker 1: and that's going to be hard for them to just
Speaker 1: reschedule those I mean, they're on you know, because it's
Speaker 1: not just them, they're on this stadium tour with def Leppard.
Speaker 1: So well, we'll see how long this lasts and how
Speaker 1: long that the Dayton remains. Yeah,
