Matt Connarton Unleashed: Vero G (2024)
Speaker 1: Vero G.
Speaker 2: How you doing, welcome?
Speaker 1: Hey, I'm doing good. Thank you guys as far for
Speaker 1: I'm good. I guys doing good morning.
Speaker 2: Good morning. Yeah, we just played brand new media great.
Speaker 1: Track, thank you and you appreciate it.
Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. So, so what's been going on? So we
Speaker 2: Uh it's been more than a year since you've been
Speaker 2: on the show with us. Uh, what's uh? But you've
Speaker 2: always got a lot going on. You know, you're you're
Speaker 2: a musician obviously, but you don't just release music. You've
Speaker 2: got your kind of a I think I refer to
Speaker 2: you as a multi what did I what did I
Speaker 2: say on Facebook? A multimedia sensation something like that. Uh
Speaker 2: So yeah, get us, yeah yeah, get us up to speed.
Speaker 2: What's been going on?
Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely another problem. So yeah, first, as you guys know,
Speaker 1: all the albums already out it's called Brandon Me is
Speaker 1: almost of your platforms. Prior to that, I just got
Speaker 1: a book out which is called Going Too Soon. And
Speaker 1: as you know, the song Guests played last time that's
Speaker 1: based on that, which is you know, Losing a Child
Speaker 1: and esports and it's out now on Amazon's and that's
Speaker 1: that's really all supported that you guys can Prior to that,
Speaker 1: I'm also working on other film projects for next year.
Speaker 1: It's going to be like an uplifting, motivational kind of
Speaker 1: short film or dark film they call it uh so
Speaker 1: beel sometimes for next year, made by January. So also
Speaker 1: you guys getting an exclusive on a show as well.
Speaker 1: I will be releasing a single based upon me. My
Speaker 1: mother had passedway this year in May, and I wanted
Speaker 1: to do something and honored her. So I decided to
Speaker 1: work on a single which will be called Since You've
Speaker 1: Gone Away, and that'll be coming out next year in
Speaker 1: January as well. So I'm working on a lot of
Speaker 1: projects in network.
Speaker 2: Yeah that's the thing. Like I said, you've always got
Speaker 2: a lot going on at once. What so Yeah, sorry
Speaker 2: to hear about your mother, that's uh yeah, it makes
Speaker 2: me whenever I hear that, you know, it makes me
Speaker 2: kind of take stock and I, you know, realize how
Speaker 2: fortunate I am to to still have my parents. But
Speaker 2: was was she a big Was she a big influen
Speaker 2: and saw on you growing up?
Speaker 1: Oh? Yes, she played a huge role into the like
Speaker 1: this variation you can say, behind me getting into music
Speaker 1: and the passion behind that. And you know now that
Speaker 1: she's gone, I kind of like just really hits me
Speaker 1: home sometimes.
Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt. The reason I'm curious about that is,
Speaker 2: you know, you you obviously you have a very impressive
Speaker 2: work ethic because you do so much. And I wonder
Speaker 2: if that's something that you got from her, or if
Speaker 2: that's something that you just kind of you know, sometimes
Speaker 2: not everything we get from our parents, So some things
Speaker 2: are just kind of the wiring in our brain is
Speaker 2: what it is for whatever reason, and we just kind
Speaker 2: of go go in different directions. But I was just
Speaker 2: curious if that was something you got from her or
Speaker 2: from other family members.
Speaker 1: For the most part, I mean, my parents always show me,
Speaker 1: especially young as like to really work hard in which
Speaker 1: you belie even go all the way, So they had
Speaker 1: somewhat of a pivotal role for that. But I think
Speaker 1: for the most part, I just think you're generally it's
Speaker 1: something that was a drive of mind that I really
Speaker 1: want to just I want to if I have to
Speaker 1: get something's gonna have to with myself and doing it
Speaker 1: for many years, I was like, you know, I gotta
Speaker 1: go and do it because somebody will do it that
Speaker 1: way I do it. Yeah, And you know you've seem,
Speaker 1: like you said, the journey. I think we also for
Speaker 1: many years and you know, just to see the amazing
Speaker 1: feedback of love beginning receiving from you know, your soul,
Speaker 1: you guys and other people, and it's just an amazing
Speaker 1: it's an amazing journey.
Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely, What is your uh And by the way,
Speaker 2: I'm looking at your website by the way and vog
Speaker 2: music dot com. And you know, I'm curious because you know,
Speaker 2: a lot a lot of musicians listen to the show,
Speaker 2: a lot of industry people. How do you you know,
Speaker 2: what is your approach to kind of because you do
Speaker 2: have a lot going on and you're able to to
Speaker 2: promote it all and get it all out there. Do
Speaker 2: you do you have a strategy that you use in
Speaker 2: terms of social media or marketing yourself, Like, I'm really
Speaker 2: interested in what your approach is to that because sometimes
Speaker 2: when someone has these various different creative outlets, it's hard
Speaker 2: to sort of disseminate that to the you know, to
Speaker 2: the public, you know, and build a fan base because
Speaker 2: they're not sure what to pay attention to. Like, what's
Speaker 2: what's your approach to marketing? Or if you have one
Speaker 2: and maybe you don't maybe you just kind of put
Speaker 2: it all out there. I don't know, but you must
Speaker 2: be doing something right because you get a lot of
Speaker 2: you do get a lot of positive attention.
Speaker 1: Thank you. I appreciate that. No, I honestly, Matt, I
Speaker 1: think it's like Toronto error. That's how I learned from
Speaker 1: doing it for a good amount of years.
Speaker 2: Now.
Speaker 1: I think it's from error and how I work. How
Speaker 1: how are I do with the marketing and promotions is
Speaker 1: like like yourself. You know, I have for friends like
Speaker 1: you who are really like supportive and you know, I
Speaker 1: also I've been realizing that I've been using Facebook ads,
Speaker 1: which helps a whole lot now, because you know, it's
Speaker 1: one thing is you as one person alone. You can't
Speaker 1: do it the only one person. You have some many
Speaker 1: things to do. You've got to bamage your life and
Speaker 1: in your personal life. So it's like you just can't
Speaker 1: be able to spare all day promoting promoting. So I
Speaker 1: realized that helps a whole lot with my marketing plan
Speaker 1: and my strategies with that, and also just the word
Speaker 1: of all people putting out the word you know, hey,
Speaker 1: looks check her out what she's doing. And it's just
Speaker 1: just been amazing. It's been really supportive and it's been
Speaker 1: an interesting situation.
Speaker 2: Do you enjoy that part of it because a lot
Speaker 2: of musicians don't like doing the you know, they'll do it,
Speaker 2: but they don't like doing that part of it, you know,
Speaker 2: the promotional part, or like you said, using Facebook ads,
Speaker 2: I'm someone who it's all fascinating to me. You know,
Speaker 2: I'm a musician. I played in a lot of bands,
Speaker 2: but to me, like all aspects of the business have
Speaker 2: always been fascinating to me. So I'll do anything and
Speaker 2: I don't mind doing it because I actually enjoy it.
Speaker 2: Do you do you enjoy it or is or is
Speaker 2: that part the promotional part is just something more you
Speaker 2: have to do to get where you're going.
Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely. And then you said you saw you're ultimusician,
Speaker 1: so you know more first hand how hard it is
Speaker 1: that you can get your self help there and people
Speaker 1: to pay attention to what she's doing. So I think,
Speaker 1: you know, by doing this now as kind of a
Speaker 1: strategy with Facebook ads or other ways of promoting yourself,
Speaker 1: I do have some way enjoying doing it because it
Speaker 1: gets you to know, like people to know that they're
Speaker 1: paying attention or engaging with music or engaging or contacting
Speaker 1: you like hey, you know, I want to check yourself
Speaker 1: out or and it's that source. So it's it's and
Speaker 1: I thought about this somebodys as well, like, you know,
Speaker 1: one thing we don't have anymore is technology wise, We're
Speaker 1: so focused on just putting that's it. I'm just kind
Speaker 1: of go to school. I like to meet people, like
Speaker 1: just engage with them and get to know what they're like,
Speaker 1: you know, talk to them like your friends, your supporters.
Speaker 1: And we don't have that anymore. Seed, so I mean
Speaker 1: we should have that more of it.
Speaker 2: Yeah, and tell me about a brand new me this
Speaker 2: is Is this a full album that you've released or
Speaker 2: is this an EP or what? What is this exactly?
Speaker 1: Yes? Yes, so this album is a full album. It
Speaker 1: has ten songs, and this is actually long way way.
Speaker 1: It's been a long way, like holding up like it's
Speaker 1: been a while. I finally get this album out and
Speaker 1: it's just a phenomenal doing music as you guys heard
Speaker 1: things so plain that. And it has other amazing tracks
Speaker 1: on the Young Girl as a Lot, as Lot as
Speaker 1: a body, He is a lot of great other songs
Speaker 1: in there, big shots to Relens, but that's my producer
Speaker 1: for similar tracks on there, and all the producers have
Speaker 1: a chance to have, you know, worked on this album.
Speaker 1: But it's just amazing to see the feedback on it
Speaker 1: and the title of brandomly the constable of that, it's
Speaker 1: pretty much of me skating like like you know, it's
Speaker 1: a new leaf, new chapter, and it's a new way
Speaker 1: of looking at life differently in.
Speaker 2: Lessen excellent excellent. Did did you you mentioned delays in
Speaker 2: getting this done? I'm just curious, like what what what
Speaker 2: was holding things up?
Speaker 1: Yes, So one of the factors I was kind of
Speaker 1: going through it at the time before you I'm a
Speaker 1: release was the financial part, is to say, because as
Speaker 1: you know, like being an independent artist, you don't really
Speaker 1: have a backing or support in essence to help you
Speaker 1: invest into your you know, your projects or anything in
Speaker 1: that nature. So with this, I had to financially put
Speaker 1: all the money behind back on this project. And now
Speaker 1: I'm starting to appreciate the feedback and the love and
Speaker 1: support with this, which has been a long time coming.
Speaker 1: But it's just amazing to see now it's worth it.
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, And there's so you said, there's ten
Speaker 2: tracks on the album correct, Yes, yeah, Were these all
Speaker 2: recorded in the same studio or did you kind of
Speaker 2: mix it up as far as what the process was.
Speaker 1: For the most part, yes, it was at one particularly Eddie.
Speaker 1: He was an amazing engineer on this project as well.
Speaker 1: And you know, it was just years and amazing and
Speaker 1: this has been something we've been doing this since last
Speaker 1: year's album and to finally getting completed and put it
Speaker 1: out there, it was just the journey was amazing as also.
Speaker 1: It was all but it was worth it.
Speaker 2: Yeah, And you learn a lot along the way with
Speaker 2: something like that, right, you know when when things I
Speaker 2: mean that's the thing, when not not just in music,
Speaker 2: but in anything in life, when things don't necessarily go
Speaker 2: as quickly as you'd like or quite as planned, at
Speaker 2: least you learn you know as you're going what can
Speaker 2: what can hold you up, and what can what to
Speaker 2: prepare for and you know in the future and whatnot.
Speaker 2: So there's always learning involved, which is a good thing.
Speaker 2: It's silver alzed. And then once you come up which
Speaker 2: and then what you come out with is uh is
Speaker 2: uh worth it? Did did you work with you mentioned
Speaker 2: a producer. Did you work with the same producer on
Speaker 2: all the tracks or did that change?
Speaker 1: Uh? No, No, I've been working for a good many
Speaker 1: years now and with this album, I think it was
Speaker 1: a two or three songs. He produced this other artist artist,
Speaker 1: other producers I've worked with, also a new producers that
Speaker 1: I worked with, and you know, the song is just
Speaker 1: we get Chest to hit. The album. The sound is
Speaker 1: totally different and when you hear the vocals, you see
Speaker 1: the growth in the vocals is totally expand and it's
Speaker 1: just like a whole new Christian sound of house.
Speaker 2: Okay, So it sounds like has your approach changed over
Speaker 2: the years, because it sounds like this is an evolution
Speaker 2: for you, which makes sense because you know the the
Speaker 2: albums called the brand New me as as your approach
Speaker 2: in terms of singing, as that specifically changed over the years,
Speaker 2: because you were talking about the vocals changing.
Speaker 1: Yes, yes, definitely, since you know where we're beginning. You know,
Speaker 1: my other projects is done. I don't just like, I
Speaker 1: don't really discredit that because this is who I am,
Speaker 1: my journey. But I feel like this album particularly now
Speaker 1: that's all now, I think it's really shown, uh, the
Speaker 1: the amount of growth as they say as me as
Speaker 1: in my artistry in my songwriting and you could. You're
Speaker 1: definitely here. It the difference in the change, but it's
Speaker 1: definitely more stronger polity.
Speaker 2: Yeah, so it sounds like you're more confident with it. Yeah, No,
Speaker 2: that that's that's great. And uh so, uh we're gonna
Speaker 2: we're gonna close out in a moment. We've we've we've
Speaker 2: got a busy show today, but we are gonna play this.
Speaker 2: We're gonna play this track. You are the one in
Speaker 2: a moment. But vo g, what should people know about
Speaker 2: how to keep up? Like I said, you've got a
Speaker 2: lot going on. What should people know about how to
Speaker 2: keep up with you online? Any? And do you have
Speaker 2: anything coming up? I don't know if you have any
Speaker 2: live performances, if you're doing any songs from this album live,
Speaker 2: but anything our listeners should know about.
Speaker 1: Yes, definitely. So Actually, as we speak, I won't be
Speaker 1: performing definitely next year for the new songs. I'm still
Speaker 1: working on that. But as we speak, I do have
Speaker 1: a toy drive coming up next Sunday on December fifteenth,
Speaker 1: and I won't take the place here in New York
Speaker 1: City down come hand and we'll be having toys, thank you,
Speaker 1: thank you. We'll be having toys. We're having live performs
Speaker 1: from other artists and you know, families and kids will
Speaker 1: be come in and get their toys and then you know,
Speaker 1: just the celebration of joy Christmas for that. So I'm
Speaker 1: very excited for that. That'll be from four pm, I
Speaker 1: think with n PM, so it was interested. I also
