Field Dispatch

Speaker 1: The band is a Silent Season, and we have Silent
Speaker 1: Season here with us in studio. We're gonna talk with
Speaker 1: these guys in just a moment. But welcome everybody. You
Speaker 1: have entered our number two Newmarrow dose of Matt Connorton
Speaker 1: Unleashed and we are live from the studios of w
Speaker 1: m NH ninety five point three FM and Glorious Manchester,
Speaker 1: New Hampshire. Today is a Saturday, August thirtieth, twenty twenty five.
Speaker 1: Jennius here of course at the news table, there is
Speaker 1: accounted for and we've got the guys from Silent Season.
Speaker 1: Let me get these mics on here. Yeah, that is
Speaker 1: really good. That is really good.
Speaker 2: Welcome guys.
Speaker 3: Hey, Hi, how's everyone doing?
Speaker 2: Good? Good? So what I think we should do?
Speaker 1: Let's uh, because all five of you are here, let's
Speaker 1: start in the corner and I'm gonna have you.
Speaker 2: Each introduce yourselves to us.
Speaker 1: Who you are, what you do in the band, and
Speaker 1: anything else you want us to know, but mainly who
Speaker 1: you are and what you do in the band.
Speaker 2: We'll start over here.
Speaker 4: I am Jeremy and I'm the vocalist.
Speaker 2: Welcome Jeremy, thank you.
Speaker 5: I am Brendan I play guitar.
Speaker 2: Welcome Brendan, right, Brendan or Brandon Brendan, Brendan Okay, Yeah,
Speaker 2: I'm Enzo and I do lead au car Enzo. Welcome.
Speaker 6: I'm David and I played drums slash business magician.
Speaker 2: Oh, business magician. I like that. All right. Welcome David,
Speaker 2: Thank you and you sir.
Speaker 7: And I'm Joe and I pray to bees.
Speaker 2: All right, welcome Joe. So yeah, and I'm glad that
Speaker 2: you're all here.
Speaker 1: You know, sometimes not everyone we have a five fece span,
Speaker 1: there's usually at least one person who doesn't make it right.
Speaker 2: So it's cool you're all here.
Speaker 1: Uh so, uh, we should let's start with this because
Speaker 1: it was just announced. So you're now the co headliners
Speaker 1: on Swarmyfest right with Sepsis.
Speaker 2: Yeah, coming up in November. That's pretty cool.
Speaker 6: Yes, very excited about that. We can't wait to play
Speaker 6: that show on November fifteenth. And we've been friends with
Speaker 6: Stepsist for a while and it's uh, it's exciting to
Speaker 6: finally be able to play with those guys up here
Speaker 6: and gals in Manchester.
Speaker 2: Yeah, at at Jewel November fifteenth. And so how did that?
Speaker 2: How did that come about how did that was that?
Speaker 1: You're the you're the business magician, right, yes, so did
Speaker 1: are you the one who made that happen or how
Speaker 1: did that come about?
Speaker 6: It was actually a great question, Mattie. It's a collaborative
Speaker 6: effort between Joe and I. Joe knows the promoter and
Speaker 6: most of the folks in Sepsis, so we got together.
Speaker 6: We had a good conversation with Will in their team
Speaker 6: and also the promoter Allowed Entertainment and they said, hey,
Speaker 6: let's let's do something. We want you guys to play
Speaker 6: the show. It's been a while and we're going to
Speaker 6: rock it and it's just history from there. So we're
Speaker 6: ready to go and we hope to see everyone at
Speaker 6: that show. It's going to be great.
Speaker 2: The rhythm section makes it happen, right, it's right right, Joe.
Speaker 1: I'm a bass player, so I you know, so I
Speaker 1: appreciate you. So you guys have been this band, Silent
Speaker 1: Season has been around since what two thousand and eight?
Speaker 4: Is that corrects and eight?
Speaker 1: Okay okay, I was commenting off air, you know how
Speaker 1: impressive that is to me because it's not you know,
Speaker 1: you don't see a ton of longevity in the in
Speaker 1: the music business. But I assume the lineup has changed
Speaker 1: over the years, right, somewhat right a few time?
Speaker 8: Who are so?
Speaker 1: Who are the original members? You guys have been here
Speaker 1: since the beginning? Yeah, and then uh and then everyone else,
Speaker 1: So everyone else has changed? So what So I'm curious,
Speaker 1: So what is it that because a lot of times
Speaker 1: when there's lineup changes, especially over the course of so
Speaker 1: I'm not good at math.
Speaker 2: What is that? How many years?
Speaker 6: Almost a lot of years?
Speaker 7: Yeah?
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, what is it that's driven you to
Speaker 1: keep this thing going?
Speaker 4: Like?
Speaker 1: How do you how do you keep or maybe you've
Speaker 1: taken breaks along the way with the band? I don't know,
Speaker 1: But but what is it that keeps Silent Season going
Speaker 1: after all this time?
Speaker 9: I think it's the music. I think it's the fans
Speaker 9: who have supported us over the years. Yeah, I think
Speaker 9: it's the drive. You know, if you have all of
Speaker 9: those ingredients, I think it just leads to, you know,
Speaker 9: wanting to continue no matter what happens.
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so fun.
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, So I'm curious between the two of you,
Speaker 1: Jeremy and Brendan.
Speaker 2: Yes, I'm assume. I assume.
Speaker 1: I mean, has there ever been when you've got to
Speaker 1: change members because you know, I've been in a lot
Speaker 1: of bands, and I know people come and people go.
Speaker 1: I was in a band a long time ago called
Speaker 1: My Life Crisis, and I was the only like there
Speaker 1: were so many changes over the years, but I was
Speaker 1: the only original member. I was the only one who
Speaker 1: was in every single lineup of that band. And it
Speaker 1: was hard, you know, always keeping it going. You know
Speaker 1: people you know, Sepsis has gone through that too. You know,
Speaker 1: they've had a lot of jeez, Jenny, do you remember
Speaker 1: that that night that you were online and you saw
Speaker 1: like they've lost Will and Melissa, like like everybody left
Speaker 1: and they had to replace everybody, like when one fell,
Speaker 1: Swoop ended up work it did.
Speaker 2: It all worked out. But but but that's one of
Speaker 2: the challenges, right with the band's change.
Speaker 10: And now you look at modern like these days, everybody's
Speaker 10: suing everybody else.
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 10: When you look at like old school rockers, right, oh yeah,
Speaker 10: guys we all grew up with and like.
Speaker 2: Now they're all sewing each other.
Speaker 10: Oh yeah, it's so great to see people stay together
Speaker 10: and play and continue the music. Yeah, in a positive way, right.
Speaker 1: Yeah, But I'm curious between the two of you. At
Speaker 1: any point, has there ever been a discussion about, I
Speaker 1: don't know, do we want to keep doing this or
Speaker 1: or have you guys always been on the same page.
Speaker 9: Or I mean, I think that for the most part
Speaker 9: we've been on the same page. There's been, you know,
Speaker 9: a question of like, you know, uh, if if it
Speaker 9: is worth doing and I think we always come back
Speaker 9: to the same answer that it is because we just
Speaker 9: love what we do. And yeah, I mean, it's just
Speaker 9: important to us. It's kind of like our baby at
Speaker 9: the end of the day, you know, right right.
Speaker 1: Plus you know, you've had some success, you've gotten some
Speaker 1: some radio play. I was, I was, you know, as
Speaker 1: I was read about you guys, and it's like, you know,
Speaker 1: so you build up a name, it's like you don't
Speaker 1: want to just let all that go, right, just just
Speaker 1: because you know somebody else to go.
Speaker 2: Or So, now, so, how long, so Enzo, how long
Speaker 2: have you been in the band? About two years? Two years? Okay?
Speaker 2: Are you the new are you the new guy? Are
Speaker 2: you the newest member. I'm not the newest member. That's
Speaker 2: actually Joe, Joe's newist. Okay, all right, and then so
Speaker 2: and David, how long have you been in the band?
Speaker 6: So I actually I started the band with Jeremy back
Speaker 6: in two thousand and eight. Oh okay, and then Brendan
Speaker 6: came along shortly thereafter. And then as as Jeremy mentioned.
Speaker 1: Oh so you're an original number two. Yeah, okay, so
Speaker 1: the three of you okay, gotcha?
Speaker 6: Ok And then you know, some member lineup changes, you know,
Speaker 6: like every band typically goes through. Yes, we discussed, but
Speaker 6: then end Zo and Joe came into the fold, and
Speaker 6: you know, it works out. It's clicking really well, and
Speaker 6: we're very excited about the future of Silent Season.
Speaker 2: Yeah. So where does the name come from? The obvious question,
Speaker 2: because it's a cool name.
Speaker 6: So I was listening to a breaking Benjamin song. I
Speaker 6: believe it was called Sign of Season. Okay, but but
Speaker 6: I said to myself, hey, why don't we say something
Speaker 6: about Silent Season Because the time we started the band,
Speaker 6: there were a lot of venues closing, and there were
Speaker 6: a lot of negative things happening in the music industry
Speaker 6: with you know, just coming off the whole Napster thing
Speaker 6: and digital downloading, and there was just a mix of
Speaker 6: like a lot of crazy things happening. So we said,
Speaker 6: why do we try to come out with a positive
Speaker 6: message and you know, just say, hey, how can we
Speaker 6: overcome this? And especially in the rock genre, like how
Speaker 6: can we get everything back to a good spot and
Speaker 6: try to help influence the scene?
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, now that's cool. I like that.
Speaker 1: I like that it came from a good you know,
Speaker 1: a good positive perspective and yeah, I yeah, two thousand
Speaker 1: and eight, I'm trying to think of, like what was
Speaker 1: what was happening?
Speaker 2: So yeah, I guess I was kind of just right
Speaker 2: after yeah, not too long, right after Napster.
Speaker 1: And everything, and there was such a transition happening. It's
Speaker 1: almost in my mind sometimes it's hard to pinpoint because
Speaker 1: you know, the the music business has gone through so
Speaker 1: many just you know, in the last you know, twenty years,
Speaker 1: so many changes, right, it's it's uh, but you know,
Speaker 1: and not everyone can adapt to it, and you know,
Speaker 1: being able to adapt is is uh is so important.
Speaker 1: So when you so so how long like so the
Speaker 1: three of you guys started it together, and then like
Speaker 1: did it come together pretty quickly when you all started
Speaker 1: working together or or did it take a while to
Speaker 1: get it off the ground.
Speaker 9: Or yeah, So, I mean Dave and I had been
Speaker 9: in a previous band together before, so we had chemistry
Speaker 9: as far as you know, knowing like you know, what
Speaker 9: musical interest we had and all that kind.
Speaker 2: Of stuff that always helps.
Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And then you know, after we had
Speaker 9: Brendan come in and then another original member and Brendan's
Speaker 9: brother actually, oh wow, that was our original lineup, and
Speaker 9: uh yeah no. After that, I mean, we we were recording,
Speaker 9: we were playing out. I think one of our first
Speaker 9: shows was with tap Root, which was pretty cool, nice
Speaker 9: at the time. So yeah, we we just were getting
Speaker 9: into it real fast. I think we had a couple
Speaker 9: connections and stuff which made it a little easier. But yeah,
Speaker 9: it wasn't It wasn't too hard at the time, I
Speaker 9: don't think.
Speaker 6: And Matt quick backstory there quickly when we came together.
Speaker 6: I have to save this on all the interviews. Jeremy
Speaker 6: and I formulated this band idea at a Wendy's over
Speaker 6: some fries at Frosty.
Speaker 1: No kidding, Yeah, yeah, that's where all the great ideas start.
Speaker 3: That's right.
Speaker 2: And then so.
Speaker 1: The uh, the songs that we're hearing today now, these
Speaker 1: are are these from over a period of time, because
Speaker 1: you guys have obviously, you know, you've recorded a lot
Speaker 1: of music. I assume over over all these years. These
Speaker 1: aren't all from one album, correct or maybe I'm wrong
Speaker 1: about that.
Speaker 4: No, They're they're kind of spread out.
Speaker 2: Spread out. Yeah, yeah, Now one was in Flames. Is
Speaker 2: that one of the more recent ones? Or is that?
Speaker 4: Yes? In Flames is are one of our newest ones
Speaker 4: that we're kind pushing.
Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, great track, great track, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 1: Has the process changed over the years as far as
Speaker 1: writing and recording, and I mean, obviously with different members,
Speaker 1: I assume it changes somewhat. But what about the overall approach.
Speaker 9: I think, like you were talking or you were talking
Speaker 9: about with the music industry, some things end up changing
Speaker 9: as far as uh, like technology and what you were
Speaker 9: able to do when we first started versus what we're
Speaker 9: able to do now.
Speaker 2: Mm hmmm.
Speaker 9: Because when we started, you know, we were all just
Speaker 9: in a basement and we were just writing there and
Speaker 9: like recording off of this.
Speaker 4: Awful computer that we had.
Speaker 9: Yeah, and and or just like a tape or something
Speaker 9: like that.
Speaker 4: Yeah, really aging us at this point.
Speaker 9: But but you know, now we have all this technology
Speaker 9: and you can just like record anything, you know, at
Speaker 9: the palm of your hands. You know, Yeah, you have
Speaker 9: computers that can do professional recordings and stuff like that.
Speaker 9: So oh yeah, we kind of get ideas, you know,
Speaker 9: based off of that. We also jammed together. It's kind
Speaker 9: of a mixture of both at this point. But yeah, yeah,
Speaker 9: but it's cool because you know, you have all this
Speaker 9: stuff at your fingertips, and oh yeah, it just makes
Speaker 9: it a lot easier.
Speaker 2: It's an amazing time to be alive.
Speaker 1: Yes, I always say too with the pandemic, which I
Speaker 1: assume affected you guys because it affected everybody, right, you know,
Speaker 1: it affected the music industry certainly. You know, it was
Speaker 1: a terrible experience collectively, but we got to find these
Speaker 1: silver linings where we can. And one of the silver
Speaker 1: linings of it is, I think it really and this
Speaker 1: comes up all the time on the show. I think
Speaker 1: it really forced people to kind of think of a
Speaker 1: thing outside the box creatively of you know, well, how can.
Speaker 2: We continue to make music?
Speaker 1: And and you know, the technology was already there as
Speaker 1: far as you know, we already had you know, so
Speaker 1: for example, if you're recording and you're sending tracks back
Speaker 1: and forth, we already had things like Google Drive and
Speaker 1: dropbox and everything. But I think the pandemic kind of
Speaker 1: forced people, some people who may have been a little
Speaker 1: bit technophobic and a little bit resistant to using that
Speaker 1: stuff to really embrace that and and you know, learn
Speaker 1: you know, what's going on in terms of technology, and
Speaker 1: how can I use that because you know, if I don't,
Speaker 1: if I don't learn this stuff, now I'm kind of screwed.
Speaker 1: I know, I can tell you for myself, just as
Speaker 1: an aside, I also work as a hypnotherapist, and I'd
Speaker 1: always been really resistant to doing sessions online until, you know,
Speaker 1: till that was the only way to do them for
Speaker 1: a while.
Speaker 11: You know.
Speaker 1: So, But but yeah, that's that's one of those few
Speaker 1: silver linings about the pandemic. I think it kind of
Speaker 1: forced everyone forward in terms of technology and uh, you know,
Speaker 1: and a lot of people, a lot of people we've
Speaker 1: had on the show over the years too, have talked
Speaker 1: about how you know, they'll say, I didn't think I
Speaker 1: could you know, I could play, I could write, but
Speaker 1: I didn't think I could record. I didn't think I
Speaker 1: could engineer something. But I was forced to learn how
Speaker 1: to do it. And now I'm really glad I learned
Speaker 1: how to do it, you know, so knowledge is power.
Speaker 1: Why don't we play another track? I really I love
Speaker 1: all of these songs, they're so good. Usually I leave
Speaker 1: it to the guests. I would like to be with
Speaker 1: your permission, I'd like to be a little bit selfish
Speaker 1: and play Hopeless.
Speaker 2: Okay to do it, because this song.
Speaker 1: I love this song, and I like all of them,
Speaker 1: but this one really connected with me. I'm curious if
Speaker 1: there's a story behind this one, or or anything anything
Speaker 1: we should know about it before we hear it.
Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean it was it was kind of written
Speaker 9: at a time where I was feeling really I mean hopeless.
Speaker 4: I was not I was not in a good place.
Speaker 9: I didn't really know like where my life was going
Speaker 9: and know where you know what what in the future.
Speaker 4: And and it's.
Speaker 9: Kind we kind of try to put a positive spin
Speaker 9: on all of our music and you know, make it
Speaker 9: so like, you know, telling people they can get out
Speaker 9: of that, they can they can conquer, you know, whatever
Speaker 9: they're feeling or you know, all the negative stuff. Yeah,
Speaker 9: and you know, music is therapy for me in that sense.
Speaker 9: And that's that's how I got out of my hopeless
Speaker 9: kind of feeling. Is by you know, writing that with
Speaker 9: the guys and yeah and yeah, no, that's that's basically
Speaker 9: what it's about.
Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing too, about you know, using music
Speaker 1: and creating art for for therapy, Because not only do
Speaker 1: I think it's the best therapy, right when you take
Speaker 1: anything that's bothering you or a trauma or anything and
Speaker 1: you create something out of it that is art, that's
Speaker 1: I think the best way to deal with it. But
Speaker 1: also with music as an example, it also ends up
Speaker 1: helping other people too, because then they can relate to
Speaker 1: it and you know, okay, I feel this and that's
Speaker 1: you know, and then they connect to the song too,
Speaker 1: So you're you help yourself, but you also help other
Speaker 1: people too. And you know you've probably had people tell
Speaker 1: you over the year, is that that's.
Speaker 9: One of the most rewarding things that you can have
Speaker 9: a fan tell you is that this song helped me
Speaker 9: through this time, because I know that, you know, I
Speaker 9: went through a bunch of times when I was a
Speaker 9: kid and I listened to songs and they helped me
Speaker 9: through those.
Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely, Well, let's give this a spend. When was
Speaker 1: this recorded. Is this one of the newer ones or
Speaker 1: this is also one of the newer ones.
Speaker 2: Oh cool cool, I.
Speaker 1: Thought, so, okay, excellent if you are just joining us,
Speaker 1: we have Silent Season here with us in studio, and
Speaker 1: let's listen to this. This track is called Hopeless.
Speaker 8: A fairly trussure safe behind every single day all the
Speaker 8: same like.
Speaker 11: My songs and champs just make me fall for my.
Speaker 8: Chaps.
Speaker 12: So I'll say, well glass.
Speaker 8: And will know sad with s.
Speaker 12: Glass I'm buried and then no raise, I hide how I.
Speaker 11: Felt so sad answer I say that I can't break
Speaker 11: if I should say sure so.
Speaker 8: That sert so raw. No I's gonna saying you no chancey.
Speaker 12: S h s say well as.
Speaker 8: You well know, thank god, it's a listening. I'm not
Speaker 8: a such with my inshine. I don't know which way
Speaker 8: is still.
Speaker 13: For my yes, my shot, make you work.
Speaker 12: God, you'll feel my god.
Speaker 8: Watch and atala.
Speaker 13: Very no chasy let s shaphome sass.
Speaker 8: And well know.
Speaker 12: They go been sound whist no chas chan chu, Well.
Speaker 8: Know they go this been sun home tass.
Speaker 11: S.
Speaker 2: I love that that is hopeless.
Speaker 1: The band is Silent Season, and we've got Silence Season
Speaker 1: here with us a live in studio. Yeah, that's that's
Speaker 1: such a great track. I love that chorus. It's very
Speaker 1: very strong. Whoops, there we go and have all those
Speaker 1: mics on. It's very uh yeah, this is a great chorus,
Speaker 1: is very catchy, lyrics are very inspiring. It's funny too
Speaker 1: because it kind of fools you, right because the song
Speaker 1: is called hopeless, but it's actually very hopeful.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: So it's a little little twist there. That's that's nice.
Speaker 1: But no, I like that a lot. Yeah that that
Speaker 1: came out what last year? Was that what I was reading?
Speaker 7: Correct? Right?
Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's been out for a little bit, but yeah,
Speaker 1: great great track. I also want to mention too, Uh
Speaker 1: Sheila from paper Jam was she had messaged I think
Speaker 1: she had messaged. Did she message you that about uh
Speaker 1: how you guys are one of her favorite bands and
Speaker 1: she was so thrilled to be able to interview you
Speaker 1: on her birthday for paper Jam.
Speaker 2: Yeah so yeah, so congratulations.
Speaker 6: Right folks up there at paper Jam, we appreciate all
Speaker 6: their support.
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. You always send me the best artists.
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1: We get a lot of guests from them, and uh,
Speaker 1: you know, every month we always look forward to getting
Speaker 1: paper Jam in the mail too. It's so cool that,
Speaker 1: you know, because to that's quite an undertaking in the
Speaker 1: digital age, you know, to to say Okay, we're gonna
Speaker 1: put out this magazine, you know what I mean. And
Speaker 1: I remember when we had them on the show. I asked, uh,
Speaker 1: I asked Sheila and Tony. I said, did anyone when
Speaker 1: you started payper jam did anyone try to talk you
Speaker 1: out of it? Did anyone say, you know, do you
Speaker 1: really want to you know, in a time when you know,
Speaker 1: traditional publications have struggled and have been struggling for well
Speaker 1: probably twenty years, Uh, with the rise of digital media,
Speaker 1: do you really want to do this? And they said no,
Speaker 1: No one really tried to. Like everyone was like super
Speaker 1: supportive and it worked out.
Speaker 2: So you know, that's great. They're having a lot of
Speaker 2: success with it.
Speaker 7: Yeah.
Speaker 6: Yeah, Joe introduced introduced us to a paper jam. He
Speaker 6: was very connected to them before. So oh cool for
Speaker 6: every thankful for that connection as well.
Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 10: Being able to hold something in your hands and look
Speaker 10: at it.
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, love that. Oh yeah, computer screen to doesn't
Speaker 2: do it right, right, Yeah, No, it's very very cool,
Speaker 2: very cool.
Speaker 1: Have you guys been obviously, you know, we talked about
Speaker 1: Swarmy Fast coming up in November. Are you guys playing
Speaker 1: a lot of shows generally? Are you doing a lot
Speaker 1: of what's the live situation like?
Speaker 3: Yeah?
Speaker 6: As of late, we've been playing a lot of great
Speaker 6: shows over the New England base and area. We just
Speaker 6: opened up for the Word Alive at Brighton Music Hall
Speaker 6: a couple of weeks ago. It's amazing. We also jammed
Speaker 6: with Keith Wallen a breaking Benjamin at the Palladium in Worcester, Okay.
Speaker 6: That was an amazing show and Lakeview, Lakeview, shout out
Speaker 6: to those guys. They added us to a couple of
Speaker 6: their shows and we have more planned coming up. We'll
Speaker 6: be announcing some of the other shows, you know where
Speaker 6: We're not going to fall off. We're going to keep
Speaker 6: going hard. Yeah, And we appreciate everyone coming to these
Speaker 6: shows and giving us the support. And you know, we
Speaker 6: like to call the fans our friends. We look at
Speaker 6: them as our friends, you know, and they're helping us,
Speaker 6: they're getting the word out their paper, jam and everyone across.
Speaker 6: So let's keep it going and let's keep the train moving.
Speaker 1: When you when you play live, do you play songs
Speaker 1: that span you know, the entire history of the band
Speaker 1: or how does that work, Because, like we talked about,
Speaker 1: you guys been around a while, you got a lot
Speaker 1: of music, right.
Speaker 5: We try to get the ones that like the singles
Speaker 5: like Chance was a single from Breaking ben Breaking Breaking
Speaker 5: Me Down, Breaking Benjamin. Yeah, and then with the couple
Speaker 5: from the War Within and the definitely the newest ones.
Speaker 3: We definitely try to fit in there as well.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: Yeah, how many albums do you have as a band?
Speaker 2: Or or albums and EPs?
Speaker 9: Or we have one full album, we have one EP,
Speaker 9: and then we have a bunch of singles.
Speaker 2: Okay, okay.
Speaker 6: And you were saying earlier, Matt, about the time of COVID,
Speaker 6: we really sort of changed our stance, you know, with
Speaker 6: a lot of bands, like we saw bands like spirit
Speaker 6: Box and releasing singles. You know, it became a little
Speaker 6: bit more like get the content out quicker and you know,
Speaker 6: keep the base engage. So we decided to do more singles.
Speaker 6: And but we're, you know, we're you know, that's not
Speaker 6: going to stop us. I should say, we're we're thinking
Speaker 6: about you know, EPs and you know, get a collection
Speaker 6: of our art out there, you know, so we're I
Speaker 6: guess it just really depends on the mood and what's
Speaker 6: going on out there, because we don't. We also, you know,
Speaker 6: we want to be able to deliver what the fan,
Speaker 6: the friends and want from Silent Season.
Speaker 1: That's another thing that's changed too, is the so many
Speaker 1: different ways to release music now. You know, when I
Speaker 1: was growing up, it was, you know, you've got an
Speaker 1: album and then you've got a series of singles. If
Speaker 1: you're lucky, you have a series of singles, or maybe
Speaker 1: only have one. You know, it depends. But now it's
Speaker 1: like a lot of artists do the inverse of that.
Speaker 1: They released a series of singles that eventually coalesce into
Speaker 1: an album or you know, or maybe they put out
Speaker 1: I forget who it was. Recently we had on the show.
Speaker 1: There was somebody who, oh is Jesse Rutstein. He's got
Speaker 1: an EP, but that EP is going to become part
Speaker 1: of a larger album.
Speaker 2: You know. It's so there's so many different ways to
Speaker 2: do it now.
Speaker 1: But I think the key, as you know you alluded to, David,
Speaker 1: is because you've got to feed that algorithm, right, you gotta.
Speaker 2: So, you gotta.
Speaker 1: Somehow even if you're even if you're only doing albums,
Speaker 1: because some some artists are stubborn and they will only
Speaker 1: do albums. But then it's like when you do an
Speaker 1: album and you release that album, so you've got that
Speaker 1: one shot to make a big splash, which is very difficult, uh,
Speaker 1: in the digital age that we live in. So you know,
Speaker 1: so you got to you gotta figure out ways to
Speaker 1: stay engaged with your audience so they don't forget about you.
Speaker 6: You know, social media engagement content. You know, we're being
Speaker 6: in a band today, it's like, you know, we're we're
Speaker 6: creating art, but we're also becoming influencers in a way.
Speaker 1: Yeah right, oh yeah, yeah, I mean that's kind of
Speaker 1: how I think of it. Everyone's an influencer now and
Speaker 1: some people don't like that term, but but but I
Speaker 1: mean it. Yeah, yeah, everyone's an influencer. Everyone's a brand.
Speaker 1: You got to kind of embrace that, you know, it's
Speaker 1: it's it's uh, if you want to have a long
Speaker 1: like I said, you know a lot of bands don't
Speaker 1: have the kind of longevity you guys have. But if
Speaker 1: you want to have that longevity, you know, you got
Speaker 1: to you got to embrace everything that you gotta do
Speaker 1: to you know, to stay in front of your fans
Speaker 1: and continue to grow that fan base. And so you
Speaker 1: guys are you have the right attitude. You're clearly on
Speaker 1: a on a good path. So that's great. I noticed too,
Speaker 1: you've had some airplay on Is It Octane?
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's really cool too.
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, there will a shout out to those guys.
Speaker 6: We appreciate their support. And but you know, we we've done, uh,
Speaker 6: we've done a lot of campaigns. Like you were saying earlier,
Speaker 6: what radio is again, I draw back to COVID. I
Speaker 6: mean trying to be creative during a time where we
Speaker 6: couldn't play out a lot yep, and yeah, we released
Speaker 6: some music, but it was trying to stay fresh out there?
Speaker 6: How can we stay fresh? And that was really Radio
Speaker 6: is a strong medium, you know, as a way to
Speaker 6: get our music out there, along with social media. So
Speaker 6: it really worked out well for us in that regards.
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, one hundred percent. Why don't we play another track?
Speaker 2: What do you have? Now? This time? I will not
Speaker 2: be selfish. You guys can pick what what should we
Speaker 2: play next?
Speaker 6: And so Joe you want to pick one? Oh yeah,
Speaker 6: let's do let's do and so and Joe will pick one. Okay, Oh,
Speaker 6: there's Wounds and Stars I think we went through the
Speaker 6: stars before wounds and chants.
Speaker 1: I don't have stars in front of me for some reason. Okay,
Speaker 1: although I thought I thought you did send that though,
Speaker 1: but for so oh no, I do see it.
Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I'm just wounds in chance.
Speaker 6: I think those are still.
Speaker 2: But but I do. I do have stars also. Yeah,
Speaker 2: I don't know why I don't see.
Speaker 7: We'll go, We'll go wounds.
Speaker 2: You want to go with wounds?
Speaker 7: Okay, the right word. We'll keep keep it going that way,
Speaker 7: all right.
Speaker 2: Cool? Anything we should know about this before we play it?
Speaker 9: There is a story or uh oh yeah, no, I
Speaker 9: mean I feel like a lot of a lot of
Speaker 9: stuff around this time was just generally about anxiety and
Speaker 9: and how to get over it. Also keeping that positive
Speaker 9: vibe you know, with you know, not just being like
Speaker 9: you know, poor me or whatever, but like hey, like
Speaker 9: you know, you do get over this whatever. Yeah, yeah, no,
Speaker 9: it was kind of along the same lines.
Speaker 1: Okay, all right, I like it. All right, let's give
Speaker 1: this a spin. This is Wounds and the band is
Speaker 1: Silent season.
Speaker 12: Short load in tarch All the shadow side.
Speaker 8: Launcher brag.
Speaker 12: Comusing up chop shd on thankfuls, I Love Class, Snow,
Speaker 12: Side Suck so.
Speaker 8: Thankful, Most.
Speaker 12: Rokehim sound the Sword a part to what is lost
Speaker 12: of their hearts, sing me.
Speaker 8: The self he Lost, and side.
Speaker 12: Feel like comusic Console Love cut so Cat Console a
Speaker 12: sack care brown line, signe fucking so.
Speaker 8: Thankful, Most, I'm snow, could you got yo shop shop
Speaker 8: s s show you shot that junky.
Speaker 14: Fens stretch back. What's mine? Not things, wants or tides?
Speaker 12: So I'm.
Speaker 2: Shoe that is called wounds.
Speaker 1: The band is a silent season, and we have silent
Speaker 1: season here with us live in studio. Another great track, Jeremy.
Speaker 1: Is it hard to sing like that when you gotta
Speaker 1: switch back and forth between the uh? I mean, does
Speaker 1: does that would bother your throat?
Speaker 4: It's very hard.
Speaker 9: It's it's funny because I've I've been really trying to
Speaker 9: hone in on both of those aspects lately, trying to
Speaker 9: you know, coach myself and you know, vocals, but also
Speaker 9: like not just vocal singing, but but then also like
Speaker 9: learning the the screams and stuff like that, and trying
Speaker 9: to get more knowledge about how to do it correctly,
Speaker 9: because I feel like for a long time I was
Speaker 9: just kind of just doing whatever I wanted to and
Speaker 9: not like actually like looking into it and like how
Speaker 9: you should. Yeah, but yeah, no, it's tricky sometimes, you know,
Speaker 9: like not as recently because I've been kind of doing
Speaker 9: a little bit more research into it, but uh, sometimes
Speaker 9: it was just so hard to like scream and then
Speaker 9: go back to singing and scream and go back to singing.
Speaker 9: But right, right, Yeah, it's it's constant, uphill battle. But
Speaker 9: I think that, uh, it's getting better.
Speaker 1: Yeah, I've always kind of marveled at singers who can
Speaker 1: do that and seamlessly go back and forth like that.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: Do you do anything special for your vocal cords, like
Speaker 1: for you know, some people use lemons, you know.
Speaker 9: I have two different devices that I've been using as
Speaker 9: of recently. Ones kind of looks like a whistle. I
Speaker 9: can't specifically remember what these things are called, except for
Speaker 9: ones called doctor Vox, And it's like kind of like
Speaker 9: a water bottle that's like filled and then you like
Speaker 9: sing into it and it kind of like warms up
Speaker 9: your vocal cords.
Speaker 2: Interesting.
Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, I feel like those things are are good
Speaker 9: for when you're you know, about to do like a
Speaker 9: recording session or something like that. But maybe not necessarily
Speaker 9: for when you're about to you know, go live on
Speaker 9: a set or whatever.
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, now that makes sense. Oh I saw a
Speaker 1: chat room message too. I want to make sure I
Speaker 1: read this.
Speaker 2: Renee Carlisle Abbott says, Hi, daddy love Devin and Riley
Speaker 2: and Julian.
Speaker 7: So there you go. Yeah, my beautiful family and my wife.
Speaker 2: Oh very nice. Now having a supportive family is definitely
Speaker 2: Uh do they come see you live?
Speaker 7: Yeah? My orders ten has and my wife had two
Speaker 7: order ones not yet not yet. Yeah, I don't know
Speaker 7: if they can handle it.
Speaker 1: Yeah, the volume of it, yeah, absolutely. So if you
Speaker 1: are just joining us, we do have silent season here
Speaker 1: with us live in studio. And what's the in terms
Speaker 1: of what is a future hold in terms of new music,
Speaker 1: Like are you guys always working on new music or
Speaker 1: obviously you've got you know, you're playing shows and you've
Speaker 1: got swarmy fests coming up, which is a big deal.
Speaker 1: But are you guys also actively working on new stuff.
Speaker 9: Or Yeah, the summer has been packed with shows, so
Speaker 9: I mean between you know, work life and then playing shows,
Speaker 9: we've done a lot of a lot of that.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 9: I think that now that things have kind of died
Speaker 9: down for a minute. We're going to be focusing on
Speaker 9: putting out new music and or writing new music. Yeah,
Speaker 9: we have a lot of things that are kind of
Speaker 9: in the vault right now. Yeah, so it should be
Speaker 9: easy to work with though.
Speaker 1: Yeah, good good. And as far as the live shows go,
Speaker 1: is there anybody in the area. Are there any bands
Speaker 1: that you've kind of you know, what happens organically? Are
Speaker 1: there any bands you've kind of teamed up with. I
Speaker 1: mean Stepsis obviously for swarmy fests, but are there bands
Speaker 1: that you play a lot of shows with or.
Speaker 6: We've been involved in the local scene for a while
Speaker 6: and a lot of bands have come and gone. But
Speaker 6: I as of recently, we've been playing shows with bands
Speaker 6: like Red Crown, Chasing the Devil. You know, we know
Speaker 6: those guys really well. We played a few shows what
Speaker 6: major moment they're doing their thing and there's just just
Speaker 6: so many of them. But those have been like really
Speaker 6: that I mentioned those because I know a lot of
Speaker 6: the bands so too. I mentioned at the beginning of
Speaker 6: from New Hampshire, So yeah, I mean, keep an eye out.
Speaker 6: We may end up doing more with those bands. But
Speaker 6: you know, we also have been really focused a lot
Speaker 6: on national shows as of late too, as a strategy
Speaker 6: good to get back. We were doing that and we
Speaker 6: toured in the past and we were writing and then
Speaker 6: we kind of started playing some local shows again. But
Speaker 6: everything we do we try to do with strategy in mind,
Speaker 6: you know, as the business grows and we evolve as
Speaker 6: a band.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 1: Who are some of the I'm curious about national acts
Speaker 1: that you guys have played with?
Speaker 6: Yeah, so over the years we've played with bands like
Speaker 6: Blackfield Brides at the Palladiums, Falling and Reverse. We we
Speaker 6: played with them when rag Key was getting out of
Speaker 6: his thing and getting back on the road. We've also
Speaker 6: played with seven seven Yeah, we toured with seven Dusts
Speaker 6: ten years in Gemini Syndrome, a few bands that mentioned
Speaker 6: twelve Foot Ninja. I got to throw those guys out
Speaker 6: too from Australia. Amazing, amazing band. But yeah, just just
Speaker 6: a slew of nationals over the years and we want
Speaker 6: to keep that, keep that ball rolling.
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no doubt, no doubt. You said you'd gone
Speaker 2: out on tour.
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, we did a few a couple of weeks
Speaker 6: with Seven Dusts and Gemini Syndrome was on that, and
Speaker 6: then we did another tour with ten Years and twelve
Speaker 6: foot Ninja okay, and other offers came in.
Speaker 8: Uh.
Speaker 6: It just it's hard because it's all you know, it's
Speaker 6: it's a business. It's a big investment and uh, you know,
Speaker 6: but we're very thankful for those tours and Seven Dusts
Speaker 6: was just amazing. You know, they were very well. They
Speaker 6: treated us as family yea, and will forever be grateful
Speaker 6: for that. And we always keep in touch with those guys.
Speaker 6: So yeah, I just wanted to share.
Speaker 1: Yeah, I met them when they played at Meadowbrook. Boy,
Speaker 1: how long ago is out? That was quite a while
Speaker 1: ago too, jeez, I might have been around two thousand
Speaker 1: and eight. But yeah, yeah, yeah, really nice guys.
Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, they're great.
Speaker 6: They're great and they're still doing it after all these years.
Speaker 6: They're road warriors and they're phenomenal musicians and great amazing music.
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 1: Is there anybody you guys have wanted to like, do
Speaker 1: you have like a dream band that you'd love to
Speaker 1: open for or get to tour with.
Speaker 15: I definitely have one, yeah, and We've tried a few
Speaker 15: times to try to open for them. But I'm a
Speaker 15: huge fan of the band He Is Legend. Okay, and yeah,
Speaker 15: they've come by the Taffta about a year ago. Oh really, yeah,
Speaker 15: and they they're coming by in September actually pretty pretty soon.
Speaker 2: We tried to get on that show.
Speaker 15: It seems like they were full for that, so but
Speaker 15: I'm gonna be there anyways the crowd because they're one
Speaker 15: of my favorite bands.
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that would definitely be mine.
Speaker 6: Oh very and quick story on that. I'm a I'm
Speaker 6: a guy full of stories. I'll make this quick.
Speaker 2: Nos, So before ends.
Speaker 6: Well, actually, when Enzo joined, we had played a showman
Speaker 6: right before COVID with He Is Legend while She sleeps
Speaker 6: in Summerville. And uh, when Enzo was playing with us
Speaker 6: shortly after he joined, he said, hey, you know, you
Speaker 6: guys played with He Is Legend at once ballroom and
Speaker 6: some of them We're like, yeah, we did.
Speaker 2: He was I was there. I'm like wow.
Speaker 6: We were like wow, that's crazy a small world kind
Speaker 6: of vibe. And we didn't know him at the time.
Speaker 6: And a couple of years a few years fast forward,
Speaker 6: he then joined the band, and I think it was
Speaker 6: meant to be at that He Is Legend show. Now
Speaker 6: we just got to come full circle. Like Enzo said,
Speaker 6: we gotta play a show.
Speaker 3: What he is legend?
Speaker 4: So he is legend.
Speaker 6: If you're listening, let's do this.
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no doubt, no doubt. Let's hit another studio tracks.
Speaker 1: We got a couple we haven't played, right, we haven't
Speaker 1: played a chance or Stars. We'll play one now and
Speaker 1: then we'll play one for the end of the segment.
Speaker 7: How's that?
Speaker 2: So, I'll let you guys pick which which one you
Speaker 2: want to go with next.
Speaker 6: Brendon Joe Jeremy's Stars do Stars?
Speaker 2: Is this the what's the newest one? By the way,
Speaker 2: is it Stars?
Speaker 11: No?
Speaker 4: The newest ones are in Flames and Hopeless.
Speaker 1: Okay, those are the two that we Okay, all right, cool,
Speaker 1: let's give this a spend. If you're just joining us,
Speaker 1: We've got Silent Season here with us, live in studio,
Speaker 1: and we're gonna play another track.

Speaker 3: You Jeff Stars, you show John.
Speaker 16: Strand Jeff Stars if you should get a voice your s.
Speaker 1: I didn't even want to talk over the feed. It
Speaker 1: sounds so cool. As a radio guy, I'm supposed to
Speaker 1: talk over the fade out rather not feed the fade out.
Speaker 1: But I just love that so much. I just wanted
Speaker 1: to let that ring out.
Speaker 7: That's so cool.
Speaker 2: That's an epic song. Great job, guys. I love that, man.
Speaker 7: I love that.

Speaker 1: forward to that. And then let's see where should people go.

Speaker 1: keep up with everything that you guys are doing.
Speaker 6: Yeah, we have a website, Silent Season Music dot Com.

Speaker 1: where's the next place?
Speaker 6: It's a next one right now? But there. Even though
Speaker 6: we said we're going to be working on some things
Speaker 6: with music, we're gonna sort a multitask. There's a couple
Speaker 6: shows we're working on in Providence and also maybe New Jersey.
Speaker 6: That's all I can say for now, but as soon
Speaker 6: as more details come out, we'll be sure to let

Speaker 6: keep active, multitasking, writing shows, all that good stuff.
Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a lot that goes into it. People who
Speaker 2: don't people who haven't done it don't know. There's a
Speaker 2: lot that goes into it.
