Speaker 5: Yes, and congratulations again on that, Thank you, absolutely absolutely
Speaker 5: all right. Well, so we've got let me get these
Speaker 5: mics on here. We've got the guys from Vally. This
Speaker 5: is your second time on the show, right.
Speaker 3: I believe, yes, indeed, So let's start.
Speaker 5: Let's start here in the corner. Let's go around the room.
Speaker 5: You can each tell us who you are and what
Speaker 5: you do in the band.
Speaker 7: Hi, I'm Cody, I play bass in the band, all.
Speaker 5: Right, Cody.
Speaker 8: I'm Dane. I play guitar.
Speaker 5: All right, Dan.
Speaker 3: My name is Sean, and I do the vocals and
Speaker 3: the silly st chanted.
Speaker 5: Yes, yes, and Youah played Jonah. I apologize. I can
Speaker 5: barely hear you, and that's because using that extra mic there,
Speaker 5: all right, say that.
Speaker 9: Again, Jonah, Jonah, I played the drums.
Speaker 5: Hi, Jonah, welcome, welcome, all right, very good. So now
Speaker 5: you guys were on with us once before. I think
Speaker 5: it was what it was all four of you last
Speaker 5: time too, wasn't it were you all four here?
Speaker 3: He wasn't here?
Speaker 5: Oh Cody, Cody wasn't here. Okay, okay, So I remember
Speaker 5: asking you, Now I am saying the name correctly, right,
Speaker 5: It's it's Volley. Am I saying that right? Yeah?
Speaker 10: You are one of the few people that say it correctly.
Speaker 10: Usually people say Vowley.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 5: That was a conversation I remember we had last time.
Speaker 5: I think it was on the air. I was like, yeah, yeah, yeh,
Speaker 5: because uh yeah, that's that's how I thought. That's what
Speaker 5: I thought it was. I thought it was Volley U
Speaker 5: or VOWLEI rather, but it is Volley. So is does
Speaker 5: that ever get misspelled, like on a poster or anything
Speaker 5: for for shows? Do people screw it up?
Speaker 10: Yeah, We've had a few where people because our logo
Speaker 10: is a pill and it's those Volley twenty milligrams. Yeah,
Speaker 10: We've been on a few show flyers where they think
Speaker 10: are as Valey twenty milligram.
Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, Oh that's funny.
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's funny.
Speaker 5: I can see how that would happen though. So tell
Speaker 5: us about because we were talking about when you were
Speaker 5: on the show before you had a show coming up
Speaker 5: in Japan or a tour or the world tour.
Speaker 3: Yeah, but but you did it.
Speaker 5: You guys went to Japan, I'm done to hear all
Speaker 5: about it.
Speaker 3: So the flight there was treacherous. Yeah.
Speaker 10: So it was a six hour flight from Boston to
Speaker 10: San Francisco, then twelve hour flight from San Francisco to Tokyo,
Speaker 10: and then a three hour flight from Tokyo to Okinawa.
Speaker 10: So and if I remember correctly, we didn't really have
Speaker 10: any layovers on the way there.
Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a lot.
Speaker 10: Yeah, we we actually so when we landed in Tokyo,
Speaker 10: they told us to go to the wrong gate. Oh no, yes,
Speaker 10: we went to the wrong gate, and you know, everything's
Speaker 10: in Kanji, so we couldn't we couldn't figure it out,
Speaker 10: and we actually wound up missing our initial flight to Okinawa.
Speaker 2: Oh no.
Speaker 10: And Jonah was at the gate for the flight that
Speaker 10: we were supposed to be on, but the three of us, like,
Speaker 10: we couldn't get through. It was too late to board.
Speaker 10: So Jonahs calling us and calling us, and he was
Speaker 10: able to wrangle in this guy who we had to
Speaker 10: use Google Translate. But yeah, he got us all on
Speaker 10: a flight that was actually sooner and quicker to Okinawa.
Speaker 5: Oh wow.
Speaker 3: Yeah, so it it it worked out perfectly.
Speaker 8: He was an airline employee, and he just went above
Speaker 8: and beyond to get us situated and straightened out, because
Speaker 8: for you know, a good hour there, we thought we
Speaker 8: it was folly lost in Tokyo final destination.
Speaker 7: We may or may not have bribed him with some
Speaker 7: bolly gear. Yeah, I'm not sure if that actually did
Speaker 7: us any favors or maybe worked against us.
Speaker 3: Yeah.
Speaker 5: Oh if it worked out though, that's that's great. Yeah wow,
Speaker 5: so oh yeah.
Speaker 3: Go ahead.
Speaker 2: Oh.
Speaker 8: I was just gonna say, yeah, getting there was definitely difficult,
Speaker 8: but it was it was worth all the ache.
Speaker 11: Yeah.
Speaker 5: Wow, that's a lot of time. I've never even been
Speaker 5: a plane, been on a plane for that amount of time.
Speaker 5: I can't even imagine.
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it was so rough.
Speaker 10: They they obviously supplied us with some beers on the flight,
Speaker 10: so that yeah, that helped a little bit. But yeah,
Speaker 10: I like I didn't really sleep the night before. Yeah,
Speaker 10: and I couldn't sleep on the plane. I have a
Speaker 10: hard enough time sleeping as it is, so I just
Speaker 10: I stayed up the entire time, and like by the
Speaker 10: time we finally stepped foot in Japan, like after all
Speaker 10: the flights were done and everything, I just like a
Speaker 10: big sigh of relief came and then we took a
Speaker 10: cab to the hotel. The front doors to the hotel
Speaker 10: were locked and there was a phone number to call,
Speaker 10: but our phones weren't working becau because we were in Japan.
Speaker 5: Yeah.
Speaker 10: Yeah, So like we're just sitting there in the parking lot.
Speaker 10: There's no cars in the parking lot. We're like, this
Speaker 10: is on far, this is on far and uh. We
Speaker 10: wound up knocking on the door and the guy came
Speaker 10: and let us in. And the second we all made
Speaker 10: it into the hotel room, that's when we did the
Speaker 10: big group hug and we were like, guys.
Speaker 3: We made it.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 7: My favorite part about when we first got there. I've
Speaker 7: been telling the guys because I used to live in Japan,
Speaker 7: oh when I was in the Marines, no kidding, Oh wow,
Speaker 7: I knew exactly what to expect from Okinawa as far
Speaker 7: as like the heat index and humidity goes. So I'm
Speaker 7: telling them like, hey, just so you know, second that
Speaker 7: we go all, you're just gonna start sweating. Yeah, it's
Speaker 7: just so human. They're like, oh yeah, sure. We stepped
Speaker 7: outside and Dane looks at me, He's like this is rough,
Speaker 7: Like already I'm already moist, dude.
Speaker 3: It was.
Speaker 10: It was extreme, Like right as we walked out of
Speaker 10: the airport, it was like a sauna. Really yeahah no kidding, yeah,
Speaker 10: like like comparable to like Florida or or I.
Speaker 8: To Florida as a kid, and it's not comparable because
Speaker 8: it's way crazier.
Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 3: You feel like you're swimming through the air.
Speaker 5: Wow, no kidding.
Speaker 9: I was like I had to run at six am,
Speaker 9: not to he had to morning run.
Speaker 7: Bill running every morning.
Speaker 3: He's dedicated to die.
Speaker 1: Yeah.
Speaker 5: Wow, wow, that's crazy. So like at any point, did
Speaker 5: did any of you feel like, you know, as you're
Speaker 5: as you're just getting there, like well maybe this was
Speaker 5: a mistake or or did or did you all feel
Speaker 5: like no, this is this is worth it.
Speaker 7: Whatever happens is probably the best thing that we ever
Speaker 7: did as a group. Like that's cool.
Speaker 8: I agree.
Speaker 10: The only the only little shred of doubt was when
Speaker 10: we were almost stranded in Tokyo where it is like
Speaker 10: there's no way.
Speaker 8: That was pretty anxiety.
Speaker 7: Maybe maybe Burger Bear too, maybe for a second, Burger Bear.
Speaker 10: If you're listening. I can't say it on the radio,
Speaker 10: but we had we had an experience. Well I'm super curious.
Speaker 10: I mean to make a long story short. So after
Speaker 10: the hotel tobacco, when we finally got to the hotel,
Speaker 10: we were like, all right, we we need to go
Speaker 10: eat something. We went to this restaurant called Burger Bear,
Speaker 10: and the guys all got what they wanted.
Speaker 3: I ordered a grill.
Speaker 10: The only thing they had that I could eat was
Speaker 10: a grilled cheese, but I had bacon on it. So
Speaker 10: I asked for a grilled cheese, no bacon, and that
Speaker 10: threw the man for a loop. He did not understand
Speaker 10: what the heck I was talking about. Yeah, He's like,
Speaker 10: so you want grilled cheese, no cheese. I'm like, no,
Speaker 10: like a grilled cheese, no bacon, like just the cheese.
Speaker 10: And he's like, so you want you want grill? I'm
Speaker 10: like no, man, So he ended up getting nothing. I
Speaker 10: tried explaining it to him to the best of my ability,
Speaker 10: and he just wasn't getting it. So I was like,
Speaker 10: you know, I'll just I'll have some jamison. Then oh wow,
Speaker 10: and yeah, so he quick as a whip, he gave
Speaker 10: me two shots of jamison. And they're all sitting there, uh,
Speaker 10: eating their food and he comes back and I'm like,
Speaker 10: I thought I finally got through to him, like yeah,
Speaker 10: like grilled cheese, no cheese, or grilled cheese, no you
Speaker 10: It's like, yeah, just just a grilled cheese, nothing but
Speaker 10: the cheese. And he like goes back and it's a
Speaker 10: big open kitchen. So like we were watching, you know,
Speaker 10: the whole process.
Speaker 8: Watching back like three times and start looking.
Speaker 3: Yeah yeah or whatever.
Speaker 10: Right right, yeah, So like twenty minutes passes and uh,
Speaker 10: I think, Jonah, you were still waiting for your food too, right, Yeah,
Speaker 10: So Jonah and I were both waiting for our food
Speaker 10: and I'm watching him and like I've worked in kitchens before. Yeah,
Speaker 10: everything he was doing, I'm like, guys, he's he's closing
Speaker 10: the kitchen like he's no. And then he finally comes
Speaker 10: back up and I'm like, hey, man, like I was
Speaker 10: just curious, you know, where our food.
Speaker 3: Is, and he's like oh.
Speaker 10: No, and right then and there, I'm like, dude, i
Speaker 10: I'm good. Like again, I was, oh, I was awake
Speaker 10: for more than twenty four hours at that point. Yeah,
Speaker 10: It's just like I'm like, dude, I'm fine. And as
Speaker 10: we're walking out the door, he runs and gives Jonah
Speaker 10: his burger.
Speaker 5: Oh really yeah yeah.
Speaker 10: But then he's like, I can still make you your
Speaker 10: girl cheese. I'm like, dude, just yeah, don't even bother.
Speaker 3: We're yeah.
Speaker 2: Wow.
Speaker 10: So he gave Jonah his burger and like, well Jonah
Speaker 10: was paying and whatnot. We went outside and this was
Speaker 10: like maybe a three minute walk from the hotel. Yeah,
Speaker 10: it started monsooning. Oh wow, and I burst out laughing,
Speaker 10: like it's just like a little i don't know, mental
Speaker 10: breakdown laughter. After the chain of events, I'm like, there's
Speaker 10: no way this is real life right now.
Speaker 12: Wow.
Speaker 5: And yeah.
Speaker 10: So like we walked back in. Jonah's all happy with
Speaker 10: his burger and I'm just like so over it. So
Speaker 10: I'm like, we're taking the cab. We're gonna go to
Speaker 10: seven eleven. I'm gonna find something to eat there.
Speaker 5: Yeah.
Speaker 10: I ate so many rice balls when we were in
Speaker 10: Japan really yeah. Yeah, the first two or three days,
Speaker 10: I probably ate like twenty or thirty of them.
Speaker 5: Wow.
Speaker 3: Yeah.
Speaker 8: Yeah.
Speaker 10: It was bad because like there's seven eleven Lassons and
Speaker 10: Family Mart okay.
Speaker 3: And they're like literally everywhere.
Speaker 5: Yeah.
Speaker 10: So when we were walking around just like checking out Japan,
Speaker 10: every single one we'd pass, I'd be like, guys, I
Speaker 10: need to go in there for a second.
Speaker 3: Yeah, rice ball, I'm low on rice ball.
Speaker 10: Yeah yeah yeah, so I survived off rice Like the
Speaker 10: three of them have never seen me eat so much.
Speaker 7: Really, Yeah, he was expecting because he's eating for two Yeah.
Speaker 5: Wow. Yeah, I'm curious, Jonah, what is a a burger
Speaker 5: like in Japan?
Speaker 2: Is it?
Speaker 3: I mean?
Speaker 7: Is it?
Speaker 5: Is it same as your Yeah?
Speaker 9: It was actually really good. It was the closest and
Speaker 9: most open option when we were finally looking for foods. Yeah,
Speaker 9: it wasn't like we went there looking for burger right right.
Speaker 5: Yeah that was great. Yeah yeah, yeah, oh that's good.
Speaker 5: That's good. So so after that, so did you play
Speaker 5: that night? Was the show that night that you played?
Speaker 10: No, so the show was actually the last night that
Speaker 10: we were in Japan?
Speaker 5: Oh how many? How many nights were you there?
Speaker 10: We were there from August third to August tenth?
Speaker 5: Oh I didn't realize that long? Oh wow, oh my god.
Speaker 8: It wasn't long enough Yeah.
Speaker 9: Definitely for a vacation, long for a band.
Speaker 7: Yeah, it really was a vacation disguised as a show.
Speaker 5: Yeah yeah yeah, oh wow, So what I mean, what
Speaker 5: what else about the experience, like, because it sounds like
Speaker 5: you had a good time, right, I mean after the
Speaker 5: initial uh.
Speaker 10: We had an absolute blast. Yeah, there were there were
Speaker 10: a few gnomi kais, which is a it's a business
Speaker 10: drinking party.
Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, so haunted.
Speaker 10: Yeah, so we uh we had a little balcony and
Speaker 10: like Cody and I, we wound up getting like a
Speaker 10: bunch of drinks from seven to elive, far too many drinks,
Speaker 10: any drinks, the high balls or what did it?
Speaker 3: Yeah? High ball no j two.
Speaker 10: But we uh we went out on the balcony and
Speaker 10: we were just like I mean, you know, drunk went
Speaker 10: in Japan. We were slicking them back and uh yeah,
Speaker 10: just watching all the bats fly around and everything are
Speaker 10: so huge.
Speaker 3: Really yeah, it was beautiful, beautiful.
Speaker 5: I don't know. That was scared of me.
Speaker 3: All yeah for real.
Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, the size like a bald eagle.
Speaker 5: Yeah really yeah, that would terrify me.
Speaker 8: It's flying by, and it scared me for sure.
Speaker 7: I thought it was gonna pick me up and take
Speaker 7: me away at one point.
Speaker 5: Yeah, oh my god. Wow.
Speaker 8: Well, other than you know, beers burgers and bats, we
Speaker 8: did other stuff too. We got haunted, Yeah, we got
Speaker 8: we got followed by any demon, a possible woman of
Speaker 8: the night that we also thought might be a demon lady,
Speaker 8: a Yokai yokai Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5: Okay, demon lady.
Speaker 8: Yeah.
Speaker 10: So, so we were we were in this store by
Speaker 10: the beach, and she came up to me and started
Speaker 10: speaking Japanese and I was like, I I'm sorry, I
Speaker 10: don't speak Japanese. Yeah, and I tried like breaking out
Speaker 10: Google Translate, and she like she looked, why does it
Speaker 10: go like this? Something about her appearance was so like spooky, yeah,
Speaker 10: and she had bandages all over her arms and everything,
Speaker 10: and she just like kept following me.
Speaker 3: Yeah, and like I found them in the store. I'm like, guys,
Speaker 3: like I need an adults. I need an adult.
Speaker 10: And so like we leave the store and she's following us,
Speaker 10: and there's this big stretch along the beach and like
Speaker 10: beautiful sea walls, beautiful sea walls.
Speaker 5: We uh.
Speaker 10: So we were walking down the strip and like we'd
Speaker 10: bang a right and go towards the benches, and then
Speaker 10: she'd do the same thing. And I kept looking back
Speaker 10: just because like I I'm a paranoid guy.
Speaker 3: I guess some agree.
Speaker 10: And I kept looking back and I'm like guys, she's
Speaker 10: still there, and they're like, stop looking back. I'm like
Speaker 10: I can't, like you feel like somebody's watching you. Yeah,
Speaker 10: see if somebody's watching you?
Speaker 3: Yeah yeah and yeah.
Speaker 10: So like for a good ten minutes, like we'd be
Speaker 10: walking and then we'd stop walking and she'd stop walking
Speaker 10: and just stare at us. Really yeah, and then she
Speaker 10: she came up to us and was asking about a
Speaker 10: phone charger and then asking if we wanted to spend time.
Speaker 10: We're like no, like, we're good, and we kept walking
Speaker 10: and walking, and like finally, like I remember looking back
Speaker 10: and seeing her turn around and walk the other way, okay,
Speaker 10: and I'm like, guys, sigh of relief, Like yeah, we're
Speaker 10: not We're not being followed by the demon anymore.
Speaker 5: Wow.
Speaker 10: So we finally get to the beach and we we
Speaker 10: all walk onto the beach and we're laughing about it.
Speaker 10: We're like, dude, watch she's gonna show up. And then
Speaker 10: Cody's like I believe it was. Cody's like, guys, and
Speaker 10: we all turn around. She comes out from behind a
Speaker 10: tree and.
Speaker 7: Is just, honest to God, there's no possible way she
Speaker 7: could have beat us to the beach because she started
Speaker 7: walking the other way.
Speaker 3: Yeah, to have teleported, there's no wow. Yeah yeah.
Speaker 8: And she had like a big straw hat too, and
Speaker 8: they almost.
Speaker 5: Like yeah you know.
Speaker 10: And then uh, Cody and I went off to go
Speaker 10: grab a beer and Joanan Dane were on the beach
Speaker 10: and I guess uh.
Speaker 9: A couple of ladies prayed.
Speaker 8: Yes, we got, we got praised really.
Speaker 9: And then we didn't see her again, so we figured.
Speaker 5: Yeah we got.
Speaker 8: Yeah, we had like a prayer force field by some
Speaker 8: lady shamans.
Speaker 3: Yeah.
Speaker 10: The timing of it was just so weird because like
Speaker 10: right as we walked away, Cody and I were still
Speaker 10: freaking out. We're like, dude, like, she's here, she's.
Speaker 7: Coming going to be submerged the water, just like her
Speaker 7: eyes showing, expecting to see her in my in my
Speaker 7: nightmares that night.
Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, and.
Speaker 10: Then we come we come back and they're like, dude,
Speaker 10: like people just came up to us and asked if
Speaker 10: they could pray for us.
Speaker 2: Wow.
Speaker 5: Yeah, wow, that's incredible.
Speaker 1: Ye.
Speaker 5: So so the show that you play that it was
Speaker 5: on the last night that you were there.
Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, yeah, because we left the next morning after
Speaker 8: the show.
Speaker 7: Okay, okay, and how did that go? It was a killer,
Speaker 7: probably one of our best shows that we played. The
Speaker 7: sound engineer that was there, he really had everything down
Speaker 7: to a science as far as like, you know, how
Speaker 7: he wanted to make up every instrument and every you know,
Speaker 7: part of the drum kit. I mean, yeah, I don't
Speaker 7: think I've had a better experience as far as like
Speaker 7: being able to hear everything that was going on. You know,
Speaker 7: you know someone that's up there right next to a
Speaker 7: bass amplifier. You know, sometimes I can't hear, yeah, you know,
Speaker 7: the whole ensemble doing their thing. But I mean I
Speaker 7: was like feeling it. You know, there there's a packed show.
Speaker 7: I mean, everyone was happy to see us. You know,
Speaker 7: big bold volley from the USA, you know on the
Speaker 7: bill outside.
Speaker 3: It's like that. It felt cool.
Speaker 10: It was it was surreal, like just you know, we
Speaker 10: came from halfway around the world. We didn't expect you know,
Speaker 10: we didn't expect a big turnout. We were kind of
Speaker 10: just doing it to be like, yeah we did that. Yeah,
Speaker 10: but there there were so many people there, and like
Speaker 10: Cody was saying, the sound was immaculate. Yeah, and just
Speaker 10: everybody in the crowd, like a fraction of them, I'm
Speaker 10: sure didn't quite understand what we were saying. Sure, but
Speaker 10: it just everything about it went spectacular. And uh, I
Speaker 10: was Facebook live streaming it the second we started playing.
Speaker 3: My phone fell.
Speaker 10: Oh no, but Cody's friend actually picked up my phone
Speaker 10: and held my phone for the whole show. Okay, So
Speaker 10: then I ripped the audio from that and we put
Speaker 10: a live album up on our Spotify, on Spotify, iTunes,
Speaker 10: all the other streaming services. Oh wow, Yeah, it's a
Speaker 10: volley live from Okinoa.
Speaker 5: That's so cool. Yeah, oh, it's very cool. That's very cool.
Speaker 7: Shout out to a first start heating for holding the
Speaker 7: phone for the entire show.
Speaker 10: Yeah, thanks you very much. I'm I'm certain you're listening
Speaker 10: right now.
Speaker 3: I'm sure he is.
Speaker 5: Wow. Did you see the demon lady in the crowd?
Speaker 5: That would have been that would have I.
Speaker 8: Had thought of that, Like, if she shows up at
Speaker 8: our show, I'm gonna lose it.
Speaker 5: That would have been the chair on the top of that,
Speaker 5: wouldn't it.
Speaker 10: We were We were so paranoid for the rest of
Speaker 10: the trip, just like I'd go to the bathroom and
Speaker 10: like feel a presence and I'm like no way.
Speaker 7: I'd like woken up in the middle of the night
Speaker 7: that night when we first saw her, and I'm laying
Speaker 7: in bed, I have to go to the bathroom, and
Speaker 7: it's like I'm just laying their face in the walls.
Speaker 7: Like if I turn around, she's going to be right there.
Speaker 7: If I turned the corner, she's going to be in
Speaker 7: the dark corner waiting for me to set my guard down.
Speaker 3: Made a bathroom buddy.
Speaker 8: This story doesn't describe it very well, but we were.
Speaker 8: We were all pretty shook. Yeah, really yeah, yeah, like
Speaker 8: the whole way it transpired.
Speaker 10: First the first minute or two, like we it was spooky,
Speaker 10: but we were kind of laughing about it. Yeah, and
Speaker 10: then as time went on, we're like, no, like we're
Speaker 10: being followed.
Speaker 3: Wow, Yeah, I.
Speaker 9: Knew I wasn't going to see her again because we
Speaker 9: got clear. Yeah I was not.
Speaker 3: Guy Tody and Hires still hosed on it.
Speaker 8: But there actually is like a Japanese urban legend regarding
Speaker 8: like a wailing woman who follows people and stuff just
Speaker 8: like actual like you know.
Speaker 7: That on her arms or something and it and it
Speaker 7: can you know, haunt you or something actual story behind it,
Speaker 7: But it is like eerily similar to an actual like
Speaker 7: folk tale about you know, a demon lady. So it's like,
Speaker 7: I think we got lucky and we we escaped with
Speaker 7: our lives. Yeah, yeah, good story.
Speaker 5: Wow. And and that's called a yokai ka.
Speaker 7: I think I forget the exact translation, but I think
Speaker 7: yokai means demon and on means like a ghost. Okay, Okay,
Speaker 7: I think don't quote me on that one.
Speaker 5: Yeah. So Cody, you were you had been there before
Speaker 5: when you were in the military.
Speaker 7: Yes, I lived in Okinawa for about two years, okay,
Speaker 7: So it's like blasts from the past. Like I kind
Speaker 7: of knew what to expect as far as like the
Speaker 7: weather goes, like the monsoon he mentioned earlier. I'm like,
Speaker 7: don't worry, dude, it's gonna be done in like fifteen minutes.
Speaker 7: Like smoke a button, hang out. Yeah, so you know
Speaker 7: your way around there obviously for the most part, I
Speaker 7: kind of knew like roughly where to go. But we
Speaker 7: were like right smack dab in the center of the island. Yeah,
Speaker 7: I was stationed. It was up towards like the northern half,
Speaker 7: so it was I kind of knew like the main
Speaker 7: area of you know, the city that we were in.
Speaker 7: But yeah, the more hole in the wall spots and
Speaker 7: like the back roads. I was like, this is a
Speaker 7: new experience for me too, So it was it was
Speaker 7: great that way as well.
Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, but it must have been good for all
Speaker 5: of you that you know that you had experience.
Speaker 7: Yeah, and I came oh yeah. I kind of described
Speaker 7: it to them as like Japan lights. Okay, so it's
Speaker 7: like you're there. It's kind of americanized because there's so
Speaker 7: many US military bases there. Yeah, so it's like it's
Speaker 7: easier than going to Tokyo, for example, where it's like
Speaker 7: they may see American tourists but no one, you know,
Speaker 7: is like dealing with Americans constantly, right, at least in Okinawa,
Speaker 7: like they they kind of know what to expect from us,
Speaker 7: and they can answer some of our questions. They might
Speaker 7: know a little bit more English than Mainlanders might.
Speaker 5: Yeah, no, that makes sense. Yeah.
Speaker 8: It definitely had more of a laid back vibe.
Speaker 3: Oh yeah. Everybody there was so polite and like accommodating
Speaker 3: and welcoming.
Speaker 9: It's where they go on vacation, right, So I like that.
Speaker 5: We were like yeah, yeah, you know, just knocking Yeah.
Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah. We got by knowing like three or four
Speaker 10: words in Japanese. Yeah, and then what what was the
Speaker 10: trip home?
Speaker 1: Like?
Speaker 2: Was that.
Speaker 3: Was it really?
Speaker 5: Yeah?
Speaker 9: Everything went smooth, way longer.
Speaker 10: It went smooth. It was just so we flew from
Speaker 10: Okinawa to South Korea. We had a six hour layover
Speaker 10: in South Korea.
Speaker 9: Oh wow, great airport though, great airport.
Speaker 3: Yeah, terrible, but a great airport.
Speaker 9: Yeah.
Speaker 10: So we had the six hour layover there, then the
Speaker 10: twelve hour flight from South Korea to San Francisco. So
Speaker 10: we left on the tenth at like I want to say,
Speaker 10: uh say, like three pm. Just we arrived in San
Speaker 10: Francisco at three pm on the tenth so.
Speaker 3: Like, oh yeah, it was it's like we hit pause.
Speaker 10: Yeah, it was so trippy and like I just remember
Speaker 10: when we got to San Francisco. I was like, I've
Speaker 10: never been so happy to be in America in my life.
Speaker 3: Yeah.
Speaker 7: I think our plane got diverted too, so we went
Speaker 7: to a different airport than we were supposed to in
Speaker 7: San Francisco or something a late but yeah, so we.
Speaker 3: Were just late.
Speaker 10: But like there was so much turbulence on the flight too,
Speaker 10: and like we were all fried.
Speaker 3: Like it it was a long week.
Speaker 5: Oh yeah, yeah, is.
Speaker 3: There thirteen hours ahead? Yes, right, yeah.
Speaker 5: Yeah.
Speaker 10: So like we we were already like dealing with the
Speaker 10: time difference in the jet lag and just a long
Speaker 10: week of you know, going out and galvanting and being goofballs.
Speaker 7: Yep, and it's not the best when it comes to
Speaker 7: confidence in flying.
Speaker 3: Oh really yeah, I got anxiety.
Speaker 7: We got seated in the back of the plane and
Speaker 7: he's like, oh, it's gonna be shaky. I'm like lying
Speaker 7: through my teeth to him, like, oh no, it's the
Speaker 7: back of the plane. There's wings right there.
Speaker 3: We're gonna be fine, right right, lies lies. It was
Speaker 3: like we were getting shook.
Speaker 5: Oh really yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 10: It was pretty bad at some points. And then Cody
Speaker 10: and me wound up just like we were standing pretending
Speaker 10: like we had to use the bathroom just so we
Speaker 10: could stand up trick.
Speaker 8: Yeah, you get like three or four minutes out of them.
Speaker 5: Yeah for you.
Speaker 10: Yeah, And we uh, we would just like anytime someone
Speaker 10: would walk up to use the bathroom, we just play
Speaker 10: mister polite and we're like, no, you go first.
Speaker 5: Oh okay, yeah, yeah, that's funny.
Speaker 7: Can't stand to be in this seat to position anymore,
Speaker 7: Please go ahead of me.
Speaker 8: Yeah, well, I'm definitely attle bit of a bigger guy.
Speaker 8: But they do not make airplane seats very large.
Speaker 5: No, sure, no they don't. That's true.
Speaker 8: To buy t next time. Yeah, body.
Speaker 5: So then so then you flew from what you flew
Speaker 5: from San Francisco to here, San brand of Boston to Boston.
Speaker 5: Ye gotcha.
Speaker 10: And then again I was like, I've never been so
Speaker 10: happy to be in Massachusetts in my entire life.
Speaker 5: Yeah.
Speaker 7: My fiance picked us up and she had whole milk
Speaker 7: for Jonah and peanut butter and jellies for us.
Speaker 3: Yeah.
Speaker 8: Yeah, the mom and Moore made a bunch of snacks
Speaker 8: for us, which was cool.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 3: From shout out to Cody's mom.
Speaker 5: Oh that's cool, thanks mom.
Speaker 7: I know you're not listening to.
Speaker 5: So yeah outstanding. Wow wow. So you guys are gonna
Speaker 5: go back some day, do you think?
Speaker 10: Or I'd love to go back at some point every day? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Speaker 10: we talked about it a lot. It's uh, you know,
Speaker 10: it's expensive. The flight is very taxing on the body.
Speaker 10: Like like Dane said, it's not for the faint of heart.
Speaker 8: No, but it definitely isn't.
Speaker 10: I would love to go back. I would just love
Speaker 10: to one stay there a little bit longer than a week. Yeah,
Speaker 10: to maybe fly to San Francisco and then spend a
Speaker 10: couple of days in San Francisco or like a day
Speaker 10: or two and then fly to Tokyo and then fly
Speaker 10: to Okinawa.
Speaker 8: That means we have to book a show in San
Speaker 8: Fran then.
Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, if you're from San Fran and you want
Speaker 7: to book.
Speaker 3: Us, let us know.
Speaker 5: Yeah, there you go. I want to go.
Speaker 9: I want to go back to South Korea.
Speaker 3: Yeah too.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 10: So we had these big, grandiose plans of uh, we
Speaker 10: were going to leave the airport, go to the DMZ,
Speaker 10: take a band picture at the DMZ.
Speaker 3: That would yeah, it would have been cool. But like
Speaker 3: we just we didn't really.
Speaker 10: Plan the logistics of it of like having to leave
Speaker 10: the airport, then go back through customs yep, having to
Speaker 10: convert currency, like make sure we get there safely.
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so on and so forth.
Speaker 10: So like it was a starry eyed idea, but when
Speaker 10: we got to the airport, we're like, yeah, guys, we can't,
Speaker 10: we cannot do this.
Speaker 7: We found like the nearest uh somewhat comfortable looking couch
Speaker 7: and just kind of crashed.
Speaker 3: There was and they had they had those spinny chairs
Speaker 3: like the Weebl's wall. They don't fall down chairs.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 10: Yeah, Dane was trying to convince Cody to go in
Speaker 10: and easily. Dude, it's easy. You just gotta lean with it.
Speaker 10: And he like the way he swung his voice made
Speaker 10: it so much funnier. But the second he went, like
Speaker 10: his head was at the back of the chair.
Speaker 3: Oh he felt these guys anywhere it fly.
Speaker 10: It flung him right out of the chair and like
Speaker 10: I was laughing so hard, I was crying. Yeah, like,
Speaker 10: oh my god, I felt so bad for him, just
Speaker 10: because like nobody wants to fall in public, of course, Yeah.
Speaker 8: People who are trying to like chill out, and you
Speaker 8: know this big over here.
Speaker 10: It was it was meant for kids, like right right,
Speaker 10: So there was a family with their kiddo and like
Speaker 10: they were just having this cute little moment and here
Speaker 10: we are for goofballs.
Speaker 5: Just so when that, when that happens, are they kind
Speaker 5: of looking at you? Like Americans a little bit?
Speaker 7: I think I feel like they were looking at us
Speaker 7: like that, like in Japan. Yeah, we were in like
Speaker 7: Asia in general, like we're just getting looked at that
Speaker 7: way because.
Speaker 9: They loved Dane.
Speaker 3: Yeah.
Speaker 10: I so like when we were on the beach, there
Speaker 10: was a little kid who walked up to Dane and
Speaker 10: he just like looks up at him with a huge
Speaker 10: smile and eyes.
Speaker 5: He's like, yeah, that's awesome.
Speaker 9: Yeah, and Dane made his amateur sumo debut.
Speaker 8: Yeah that's correct.
Speaker 5: Oh I got to hear about this. Yeah.
Speaker 8: Well yeah, we ended up one night. We went to uh,
Speaker 8: like a street, like a main street with a bunch
Speaker 8: of shops and stuff called CCOO Side Dory and we
Speaker 8: got dropped off in the taxi and I don't know,
Speaker 8: I think we're walking for a couple of minutes and
Speaker 8: we stumble upon this street performer sumo guy and immediately
Speaker 8: everyone's like they're good in there.
Speaker 12: Yeah.
Speaker 10: The second that we saw the he had a sign
Speaker 10: saying like sumo wrestle me basically, and we all looked
Speaker 10: at Dane and he just got a big smile, looks
Speaker 10: at us, and he's like, I.
Speaker 3: Know what I have to do?
Speaker 8: Oh wow, Yeah I got spanked.
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, he got bodied. It was it was maybe
Speaker 3: he pulled.
Speaker 8: Like a move and uh, you know, we clashed. We clashed,
Speaker 8: which was good. Yeah, and then I kind of went
Speaker 8: at him and he kind of dodged out of the way.
Speaker 8: My nose went right into his like shoulder bone.
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you got du oh wow.
Speaker 7: I can't see him grab the diaper and flip him.
Speaker 3: But he just was one.
Speaker 9: Yeah, you either start one and oh and oh and
Speaker 9: one though.
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you're still on the board.
Speaker 7: You're still sumo wrestling in Japan like that's that's a
Speaker 7: an accomplishment right there.
Speaker 5: It is.
Speaker 3: Yeah, you gotta throw a dart to hit a bulls,
Speaker 3: you know.
Speaker 5: That's right, that's right, that's right. Oh wow, that's cool.
Speaker 5: That's wild. Well, do you guys want to play another
Speaker 5: you want to play another track? We got we got
Speaker 5: a couple others we gotta I'll let you pick. We
Speaker 5: got a Parabolic and don't remain which would which should
Speaker 5: we play next? And then we'll save the other one
Speaker 5: for the.
Speaker 3: End of the That's that's up to Jonah.
Speaker 5: Parabolic. Anything we should know about this before we play it?
Speaker 7: It slaps?
Speaker 10: Yeah, all right, it's a it's a good song, and
Speaker 10: you know it's a good song because we wrote it.
Speaker 5: There you go, here, you go, all right, here it
Speaker 5: is this is Parabolic. The band is Volley.
Speaker 1: Somebody songs, couping doctors, never a love polish love with
Speaker 1: something inside. He spilled my soul without the sun, producing
Speaker 1: the throuble replacing the hawk and.
Speaker 3: The pickle fool.
Speaker 4: There is nothing that met.
Speaker 2: Nothing back to blads plainly, I did feeling like to waste,
Speaker 2: to balk the chain. There is nothing blacken to me,
Speaker 2: nothing back to lads plainly, I can feeling like, go wait.
Speaker 3: You boxord chin girl.
Speaker 5: Anyway, I played the wrong song, still good, still good.
Speaker 5: But now we're gonna play parabolic by here it is.
Speaker 3: You're gonna win Umbo shir Head and.
Speaker 4: Made all love the Yoshi.
Speaker 2: You're gonna break that.
Speaker 12: I don't pump the crown I chose, I ain't um.
Speaker 4: Be sure head, I'm being a superstition.
Speaker 12: Lay sixteen under the cock ground Sarah Ballad, he yawning,
Speaker 12: probably gone con so come and I can't boys times.
Speaker 4: And they all broken down, And son As said, whatever
Speaker 4: it makes me smile off ever worth you a while?
Speaker 3: The bread it in stage.
Speaker 2: When you say bed sound, you mean.
Speaker 3: A hey, you're beating too.
Speaker 12: Submission Glady sixteen under ground.
Speaker 11: That candy probably grown prone down and city.
Speaker 3: There we go.
Speaker 5: That is parabolic. The band is Volley and we've got
Speaker 5: the guys from Volley here with us live in studio.
Speaker 3: Hello, Hello, Hello, So dad, what.
Speaker 5: Have you guys been?
Speaker 4: Uh?
Speaker 5: So, what have you been doing since you're your return
Speaker 5: from Japan? Have you been playing a lot of shows
Speaker 5: or what's what's kind of been?
Speaker 7: Uh?
Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, so it's been a it's been a pretty
Speaker 10: busy few months. We've been playing a lot of shows.
Speaker 1: Uh.
Speaker 10: We're talking about starting to record again. Okay, we have
Speaker 10: a we have about five or six songs that are
Speaker 10: in the hat that we want to we want to
Speaker 10: press the wax okay to speak, Yeah, yes, which realistically
Speaker 10: we're gonna put it on a CD.
Speaker 3: And yeah the VHS but VHS tapes, Yeah, I love it.
Speaker 9: If you're not going to the art show we're playing
Speaker 9: in Nashua tonight.
Speaker 5: Oh yeah yeah yeah, yeah we should mention that.
Speaker 3: Yeah, we gotta plug that.
Speaker 10: So at Terminus Underground New Yeah.
Speaker 5: We had Eleanor was with us last week.
Speaker 10: Yeah we love Eleanor and ye yeah so Terminus Underground
Speaker 10: it is one thirty four Haines Street in nash New Hampshire.
Speaker 10: I believe that's the address. Yes, I'm not Magellan, So
Speaker 10: he's really bad at geology. I'm no cartographer. So the
Speaker 10: doors are at seven, music starts at eight. It's a
Speaker 10: fifteen bucks for regular ticket, twenty bucks for a VI
Speaker 10: I pizza ticket. Okay, to hang out with us, yeah,
Speaker 10: in case you want to hang out with us, which
Speaker 10: I don't know, maybe you do, maybe you don't. We
Speaker 10: all smell collectively, Okay, Jonas sniffs himself. So we are
Speaker 10: going to be playing with P in public. We we
Speaker 10: can't say their name on the radio.
Speaker 5: But yeah, it's actually so it's it's it's another word
Speaker 5: that starts with P.
Speaker 3: Yeah.
Speaker 5: But is this about that?
Speaker 3: You can you can fill in the right close in public? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 10: There's there's three more letters that follow after P.
Speaker 3: Yeah. But uh uh what KIA, W K E A H.
Speaker 10: I'm sorry if we're mispronouncing that, or if it's an
Speaker 10: acronym that we ask them, yeah, yeah, or you could
Speaker 10: ask them tonight in person if you come to Terminus Underground.
Speaker 5: There you go.
Speaker 10: And then we are also playing with first pick and
Speaker 10: then uh, well we're we're volleys, so we're playing it too.
Speaker 10: But you should definitely come on out. It's gonna be
Speaker 10: a heck of a time. It's a beautiful little spot.
Speaker 10: And yeah, it's curated very nicely. It's a very fun, safe,
Speaker 10: wholesome place for music and art to trade. It has fire,
Speaker 10: it has it has like very cool, almost spooky living
Speaker 10: room vibes. But it's a it's a big old room
Speaker 10: that you can thrash about in. It's a it's gonna
Speaker 10: be a good time.
Speaker 7: Then there's ample parking. You know, nothing to worry about
Speaker 7: as far as finding a spot to ample. Ample parking
Speaker 7: day or night, people shouting howdy neighbor.
Speaker 9: Hey sup supple parking.
Speaker 8: If you want to get your tickets online, you can
Speaker 8: go to New Hampshire Underground dot org and get your
Speaker 8: tickets there.
Speaker 3: Good job, Dane.
Speaker 5: Yeah, I tell everyone the same thing. Like the first
Speaker 5: time you're walk into that room, it's like you're walking
Speaker 5: into a different world. It's so cool. Yeah, there's a.
Speaker 8: Lot of work into it.
Speaker 3: Yeah cool.
Speaker 10: And we actually practice in the same building. We're literally
Speaker 10: across Yeah, we're across the hall, so we don't have
Speaker 10: much of a commute.
Speaker 5: Oh wow, that's nice.
Speaker 8: Yeah, we scored a room there maybe like three or
Speaker 8: four months ago. Our old spot on Vine Street got flooded.
Speaker 8: Oh no, really, we were talking about carpentry and stuff
Speaker 8: last time. We were building our room and but it
Speaker 8: ended up getting flooded, which is pretty bad.
Speaker 5: Oh wow.
Speaker 6: Yeah.
Speaker 10: So we built our practice space and we were building
Speaker 10: a bunch of other rooms too, and it was really cool,
Speaker 10: like it made it feel that much more home just
Speaker 10: because we built it.
Speaker 3: Yeah.
Speaker 10: We we drew all over the walls and hung all
Speaker 10: our artwork and one not on it. But it, uh,
Speaker 10: it started getting moldy down there, like if you yeah.
Speaker 2: Yeah.
Speaker 10: So like we would practice and then after practice we'd
Speaker 10: leave and we would all smell musty.
Speaker 5: Oh wow.
Speaker 10: Yeah it was rough and then like yeah it was
Speaker 10: it was before it was before a show. I think
Speaker 10: it was either Dane or Cody that texted the group
Speaker 10: chat and they're like, hey guys, like, uh, the practice
Speaker 10: space is flooded and we were all on our way
Speaker 10: to go pick up gear for a show, so like,
Speaker 10: are you serious? Right now we get in, the entire
Speaker 10: carpet is sopping wet. Luckily it didn't damage any of
Speaker 10: our gear. I think that's get messed up, like Cody's gigbag.
Speaker 7: But yeah, falling falling off together and there but he
Speaker 7: took one for the team.
Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5: Wow.
Speaker 7: Luckily we had like multiple layers of carpeting, so it
Speaker 7: sopped up most of it. Yeah yeah, no, but I
Speaker 7: think we lost, uh lost my gig bag and my microwave.
Speaker 3: Oh wow, no, yeah, the microwave.
Speaker 8: We had little kitchen. It was nice, Yeah, Britos and
Speaker 8: ramen and yeah, yeah.
Speaker 10: Left we left the mini fridge there too. I'm still
Speaker 10: upset about that.
Speaker 7: That was pure laziness.
Speaker 5: I just did. So what was it a basement space?
Speaker 3: Yeah it was.
Speaker 10: It was in the basement of a mill building. Yeah,
Speaker 10: and we actually we used to rent a room on
Speaker 10: the second floor. Yeah really yeah, so you figure we
Speaker 10: would have learned, but so we shared it with a
Speaker 10: few other bands, and uh, there was there were several
Speaker 10: things that just we weren't really digging about that room.
Speaker 3: Yeah, gear theft, oh really.
Speaker 10: Yeah, so we were dealing with, like, you know, some
Speaker 10: of our stuff going missing and oh wow, because there
Speaker 10: were like four other bands that practiced in that room.
Speaker 3: It was a giant room.
Speaker 10: And finally, like one day before a show, wet we
Speaker 10: were missing the cable for our pay and we were
Speaker 10: providing the PA for the show. So we were like
Speaker 10: that's the last straw, Like we're done, and we moved
Speaker 10: out that day. The next day there was a massive
Speaker 10: flood and like we we were grabbing like the last
Speaker 10: of our odds and ends. And I saw the dudes
Speaker 10: from one of the other bands like that were cool with,
Speaker 10: like yeah, they weren't the ones taking stuff from us,
Speaker 10: and they're like, did did you guys see the ceiling?
Speaker 10: And I'm like, oh no, like we we got everything
Speaker 10: out and uh I walk in it's literally like a waterfall.
Speaker 10: Oh my god, exactly where my guitar cab was, his
Speaker 10: bass cab was, our pa was yeah.
Speaker 5: Yeah.
Speaker 3: So I literally was like, we are the luckiest.
Speaker 8: I know in a way.
Speaker 5: In a way, you're lucky somebody stole from you because
Speaker 5: that caused you to leave just some time.
Speaker 3: Yep.
Speaker 5: Yeah, sometimes sometimes that works out for the best.
Speaker 9: Daddy.
Speaker 5: Yeah, oh that's crazy. Wow. No, but that's cool that
Speaker 5: you're in the space that you're in now, right right
Speaker 5: in the building there. Yeah.
Speaker 10: Yeah, it's it's it's a little bit smaller than the
Speaker 10: past couple of spaces that we've had.
Speaker 8: Safe and secure, and they have bathrooms and it's dry and.
Speaker 3: Dry. That is objectively. My favorite thing about it is
Speaker 3: that it's dry.
Speaker 5: Yes, yes.
Speaker 7: What they don't tell you is that you know it's
Speaker 7: called it was a mill building that we were before,
Speaker 7: but it's actually short for mildew.
Speaker 5: There you go and bring them that stuff in over time.
Speaker 5: It's really bad for you as yeah.
Speaker 7: Yeah, infection and yeah, everything else that goes along with
Speaker 7: it was definitely on the cusp of happening, I'm sure,
Speaker 7: so it was it was time, yeah, good to get
Speaker 7: out of it.
Speaker 8: We got pretty lucky securing the room at New Hampshire
Speaker 8: Underground for sure. That kind of came to be.
Speaker 3: I was.
Speaker 8: I was helping out Cody Pope and the keyholders nice
Speaker 8: so and we were practicing there with Axel because he's
Speaker 8: an honorary key member keyholder, ye, key member of the Keyholders.
Speaker 8: And then just you know, being there and talking to
Speaker 8: Andre and getting the right people to call and stuff,
Speaker 8: and I'm getting at least over there, so excellent. We're
Speaker 8: pretty lucky.
Speaker 5: Yeah that's great, Yeah, very very cool. So uh no,
Speaker 5: so you've got the show tonight and then what what
Speaker 5: else you have, Like you have a lot of shows
Speaker 5: coming up or what are you there's a lot of bands.
Speaker 5: You know, as we get into the winter, they kind
Speaker 5: of going to hibernation or focusing and recording.
Speaker 10: We want to focus on writing and recording. We have
Speaker 10: December second at O'Brien's. Oh nice, I think that's all
Speaker 10: we have right now.
Speaker 8: Yeah, right, I believe so.
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's a good place to play though.
Speaker 10: Yeah, so it's a it's going to be a Tuesday,
Speaker 10: So we're a little curious how that's going to turn out.
Speaker 10: But we're still we're still so grateful every chance we
Speaker 10: get to play, Like there are a lot there are
Speaker 10: a lot of musicians out there that have spectacular talent
Speaker 10: but don't get the opportunities that we get, right, you know,
Speaker 10: if we play to a room of just the bands
Speaker 10: and maybe two people, or a room of fifty people,
Speaker 10: we're all still so very grateful that we get to
Speaker 10: make the silly little dream of ours come true. Oh yeah, yeah,
Speaker 10: it just it makes me so happy to be able
Speaker 10: to create, especially with my brothers, Like, yeah, I love
Speaker 10: these guys.
Speaker 8: Yeah, I love you bro Yeah yeah right. And then
Speaker 8: it's important too, if there's one person or one hundred
Speaker 8: people there is to keep that energy level high regardless.
Speaker 5: Oh absolutely, yeah, that's kind.
Speaker 8: Of our thing.
Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm bouncing off the walls regardless of how many
Speaker 10: people are there.
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's good. That's good, excellent, excellent. Where should
Speaker 5: people go online to keep up with everything you guys
Speaker 5: are doing. Where's the best place to go?
Speaker 10: So we are on Facebook, it's a Facebook dot com
Speaker 10: slash Volley sixty sixty six because we're edgy.
Speaker 3: Yeah, the Instagram, and.
Speaker 5: That's why that demon lady was following.
Speaker 3: It's it Matt, that Galaxy brain.
