Speaker 8: Such a great track. That is the back Room by
Speaker 8: Ryan Redwood. And we're gonna be talking with Ryan in
Speaker 8: just a moment. Welcome everybody, if you are listening live.
Speaker 8: On Saturday, October four, twenty twenty five, we have entered
Speaker 8: our number three new Marrow trace of Matt Connorton Unleashed
Speaker 8: and we are live from the studios of wm n
Speaker 8: H ninety five point three FM and Glorious Manchester, New
Speaker 8: Hampshire and Ryan returns. We had Ryan on the show
Speaker 8: recently to talk about his first single Tomorrow that we
Speaker 8: premiered on the show, and then we played the back
Speaker 8: Room recently for the first time on American radio. Another
Speaker 8: great track, and I think Ryan is on the line
Speaker 8: with us to be a WhatsApp?
Speaker 9: Hi Ryan, Hello, Matt, how you doing mate? You okay?
Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, welcome back to the show. Thank you for
Speaker 8: being patient. I know we're running a little bit behind,
Speaker 8: but great to talk to you again. I love that song, so.
Speaker 9: Thank you very much, mate, and thank you again for
Speaker 9: having me back.
Speaker 8: On absolutely absolutely now that song. What can you tell
Speaker 8: us about that song? Because I, you know, it sounds
Speaker 8: like it sounds like, you know, a dude watching a
Speaker 8: girl you know that he's interested in and so forth.
Speaker 8: But I feel like there's some other there's some other
Speaker 8: things in there that you're kind of dealing with in
Speaker 8: the lyrics. So what what can you tell us about
Speaker 8: that track? Yeah?
Speaker 10: Man, So it basically it started off it was going
Speaker 10: to be like a funny tune because me and my
Speaker 10: producer and best mate Asa, who I do everything with,
Speaker 10: write and record everything in the back room. So we
Speaker 10: like originally were like, let's write a funny sort of
Speaker 10: song about how we do everything in the back room
Speaker 10: and we never leave it and stuff, and then we
Speaker 10: we sort of had the tune down, and then when
Speaker 10: I got to writing the lyrics, nothing funny came out.
Speaker 10: A lot of like things that I was probably dealing
Speaker 10: with internally sort of came out and just spilled onto
Speaker 10: the page, which I guess is what songwriting is all about.
Speaker 8: Right, Yeah? Interesting? And what are some of those things
Speaker 8: that were you know, they come out in the song
Speaker 8: and the.
Speaker 10: Word it's all about like my ADHD and like how
Speaker 10: I feel like the anxiety of that sort of watches
Speaker 10: me as I'm sort of trying to make it with
Speaker 10: like music or whatever I'm doing at the time, and
Speaker 10: like how I can't really run away from it.
Speaker 9: If that makes sense?
Speaker 8: It does it does? I think we talked about that
Speaker 8: the last time you were on the show with us too,
Speaker 8: about you know, how a lot of creative people have
Speaker 8: that ADHD and and and how it kind of informs
Speaker 8: what you do creatively. And how there are ways that
Speaker 8: you know, it can actually be beneficial, it can it
Speaker 8: can help you to create. I think we we don't
Speaker 8: have to rehash all that, because I think we talked
Speaker 8: about a lot of that last time. But it's interesting
Speaker 8: that that you kind of expressed that in the lyrics
Speaker 8: of the song, and again it's it's kind of like,
Speaker 8: you know, I listened to it and it's like, okay,
Speaker 8: you know, and I went back and listen to it
Speaker 8: again and I was like, there's something else going on here.
Speaker 8: It's interesting.
Speaker 11: Yeah.
Speaker 12: Yeah.
Speaker 10: I like to sort of give them sort of like
Speaker 10: it's like a double meaning, I guess, because it's cool
Speaker 10: to have other people say, oh, this feels like this
Speaker 10: to me, or I think it means this sort of thing,
Speaker 10: and then to have that like conversation with like someone
Speaker 10: like yourself as well and be able to be like, well,
Speaker 10: I when I wrote it, I meant this, But obviously
Speaker 10: you can interpret however, interpret it, sorry, however you want to.
Speaker 10: Really like, I think that's the best bit about music
Speaker 10: really is that lyrics can mean anything to anyone, right.
Speaker 8: Right, right, absolutely, Well, it's also kind of fun, right,
Speaker 8: It's it's a it's an adventure when you when you
Speaker 8: have an idea for a song and you and you
Speaker 8: embark on creating that and then it ends up being
Speaker 8: something different than what you had originally in mind. I mean,
Speaker 8: that's that there's something kind of satisfying about that, right
Speaker 8: when you because when you are able to surprise yourself
Speaker 8: as a songwriter and you go, oh, I didn't I
Speaker 8: didn't know this was going to happen, But this is cool.
Speaker 13: I like this.
Speaker 10: You know, well that's literally what happened, like when it happened,
Speaker 10: and I had all these lyrics sort of written down,
Speaker 10: so I sat Sometimes I start from like a line,
Speaker 10: or I'd write like a paragraph how I'm feeling or whatever.
Speaker 10: But and then I sat there and sort of reflected
Speaker 10: once the song was finished, and was like, what are
Speaker 10: these lyrics actually about?
Speaker 3: Yeah?
Speaker 9: And I was like, oh, it's actually about my mental health.
Speaker 10: Actually, I didn't really know what it was about when
Speaker 10: we recorded it and when I wrote the lyrics as such.
Speaker 10: It wasn't until like a week later, when when I've
Speaker 10: got the master's back and I was like, oh, yeah,
Speaker 10: it's about that.
Speaker 11: Well.
Speaker 8: It's interesting that when you when you're in a situation
Speaker 8: where you know maybe you see someone who you find
Speaker 8: attractive and you're and you're contemplating. It's funny our our
Speaker 8: guests that we had on in the first hour of
Speaker 8: the show today, he had a he had a song
Speaker 8: that was kind of about that, and you're and you're
Speaker 8: you're contemplating on how you might be able to approach them.
Speaker 8: But at it's at that moment that so often all
Speaker 8: those things that go on in your head that might
Speaker 8: be hindering you in some way. That's that's really one
Speaker 8: of those moments where all that comes out right where
Speaker 8: you start, uh, you know, maybe doubting yourself or you know,
Speaker 8: should I do this, Should I approach this person or
Speaker 8: should I just watch them? I suppose in this context
Speaker 8: from the back room, right, Yeah, it's those moments where
Speaker 8: you you start really questioning yourself, in doubt in yourself
Speaker 8: and and and all those those things about yourself that
Speaker 8: maybe are a little different.
Speaker 10: Well one percent, I'm quite I'm quite a confident person,
Speaker 10: like in general, and it isn't to like say, until
Speaker 10: them sort of situations arise, whether it be talking to
Speaker 10: someone new or like a new job or something, or
Speaker 10: going for like an interview or whatever, then you're sort
Speaker 10: of like, oh, yeah, I do have some other things
Speaker 10: going on.
Speaker 9: There is there is something going on in my head
Speaker 9: that's not just look at me all the time, you know.
Speaker 8: Right now, what's the situation with as far as playing
Speaker 8: this live? Have you been able to play this out
Speaker 8: or you're doing I don't I don't remember what your
Speaker 8: touring situation was the last time that we talked. But
Speaker 8: are you playing a lot of shows?
Speaker 9: So I haven't actually played this one live yet.
Speaker 10: I've got a run of shows coming up in November
Speaker 10: around the UK, so I'll be doing one in Liverpool, London,
Speaker 10: Knowledge and hopefully Manchester. So should have quite a busy November,
Speaker 10: and that'll be the first time this one's been taken
Speaker 10: out on the road and give a given a live spin.
Speaker 8: Oh excellent. You must be excited about that because it's
Speaker 8: got a vibe, it's got an energy about it, you know.
Speaker 8: I imagine it'll go over really well with the live crowd.
Speaker 9: Yeah, I hope.
Speaker 10: So, Like it's kind of one of those when it
Speaker 10: gets to the chorus where it just sort of opens
Speaker 10: up and becomes this other beast like in the verse,
Speaker 10: is quite intimate and quite like personal.
Speaker 9: I guess.
Speaker 10: And then when that chorus hits in and then drums
Speaker 10: start going a bit mad and frashing on the crash symbol,
Speaker 10: it starts to yeah, like say, open up, and I
Speaker 10: hope people are getting on shoulders throwing their arms about
Speaker 10: all that sort of stuff.
Speaker 8: I like how you put that too, how it opens
Speaker 8: up in the chorus, because so much of so much
Speaker 8: of writing a great song is you know, you build
Speaker 8: tension in the verses and then the chorus is kind
Speaker 8: of almost like a relief or you know, it opens up,
Speaker 8: and and this song that really is very much present.
Speaker 8: I think that concept in this song because like you
Speaker 8: hear the bassline in the beginning, you know, that first verse,
Speaker 8: and it's very you know, it kind of makes you
Speaker 8: a little anxious, or at least it did me the
Speaker 8: first time. It was like, you know, it just there's
Speaker 8: there's an anxiety there almost in that base. It's really
Speaker 8: in the baseline. I feel like that's kind of the
Speaker 8: secret to it, you know, and then you get to
Speaker 8: the chorus and it's like, okay, it's almost like a
Speaker 8: relief a little bit. But I like that, you know,
Speaker 8: you build the tension and then you get to the
Speaker 8: chorus and it's like, Okay, here we are.
Speaker 10: Yeah, man, I love doing that as well. I'm so
Speaker 10: glad you've picked up on that. And I think most
Speaker 10: people who have listened to it have said the same thing.
Speaker 10: They're sort of like, you're getting a bit moody in
Speaker 10: these verses note, but then when we get to the chorus,
Speaker 10: it's like, oh, Rhyme's all right. I mean he's okay,
Speaker 10: like an uplifting sound in the tune, right. But I'm
Speaker 10: glad we just doill sort of try to do that
Speaker 10: on purpose really because I like, like you said, I
Speaker 10: like the tension and then the release you get when
Speaker 10: when the chorus kicks in for sure.
Speaker 8: Yeah. Now are you getting the airplay with the song
Speaker 8: over there yet or what's that situation?
Speaker 9: It's been going down really well, mate, good.
Speaker 10: I think it's probably gone down the best of any
Speaker 10: of my tunes ever have done, which is amazing.
Speaker 8: Yeah.
Speaker 10: A ton of radio stations have been picking up over here,
Speaker 10: like you guys as well, absolutely backing it, and I
Speaker 10: love all that.
Speaker 9: Yeah, it's been going down really well.
Speaker 8: Oh that's outstanding. That's outstanding. And then now are these
Speaker 8: are these songs gonna be part of a full album
Speaker 8: or do you have a full album or what's what's
Speaker 8: the situation there?
Speaker 9: So what we're doing.
Speaker 10: The plan is, we actually came up with this on Wednesday,
Speaker 10: So we had a meeting on Wednesday, just me and
Speaker 10: as Are, the guy who produces my tunes, and I
Speaker 10: was like, what should we do because I'm bored of
Speaker 10: just doing singles, like you say, I'd like to build
Speaker 10: up to like an album or something like that. Yeah,
Speaker 10: so that the next song will be another single, and
Speaker 10: then after that I'm actually gonna be doing a five
Speaker 10: track EP. Okay, yeah, so that'd be exciting bit more
Speaker 10: I don't know. The next single is a little bit
Speaker 10: more less moody, little little bit more less moody, okay, okay,
Speaker 10: a little bit more uplifting. The lyrical content is still
Speaker 10: quite not dark, but still quite angry, a little bit
Speaker 10: of angst in there, okay, But the song itself is
Speaker 10: a little bit more happy, I guess. And then the
Speaker 10: EP is going to be a mixture of the two,
Speaker 10: hopefully gonna sort of bring some more riffy stuff in
Speaker 10: as well, which is going to be exciting because I've
Speaker 10: not done that in a long time.
Speaker 9: But yeah, I can't wait to get going.
Speaker 8: So does that mean, so will the EP be five
Speaker 8: new songs or will the EP include the songs that
Speaker 8: you've released already.
Speaker 10: It'll be five completely brand new tunes next year, hopefully.
Speaker 10: I reckon about March time if I was to put
Speaker 10: a time on it. But yeah, five completely new tunes
Speaker 10: which I've already written. I was actually finishing off the
Speaker 10: lyrics to a couple before I got on and chatted
Speaker 10: with you. Oh yeah, it's exciting, man, it's exciting.
Speaker 8: Excellent, excellent. So the producer that you work with has
Speaker 8: he worked with you on everything that you've recorded.
Speaker 10: So he's worked with me on tomorrow and this one,
Speaker 10: the next one, and he will be the producer going forward.
Speaker 10: I used to work with another friend of mine called
Speaker 10: Sam Wilson on my older tracks. I'm very fortunate to
Speaker 10: have a lot of very very talented friends. Yeah, because
Speaker 10: we're all from like the same background and the same
Speaker 10: like music scene. So it's really cool to be able
Speaker 10: to pull on people like that and be like, oh,
Speaker 10: come on mate, let's go down the studio and sort
Speaker 10: of I see what we can come up with.
Speaker 8: You know, Yeah, that's fantastic. And then so now, when
Speaker 8: you play live, are you playing with a full band.
Speaker 10: So I'm hoping to be doing a full band soon,
Speaker 10: but at the moment I'm sort of doing them like
Speaker 10: acoustically on my own. I will say, if anyone's listening
Speaker 10: to this and you want to book me, I'm not
Speaker 10: on a boring acoustic artist guy who stands in the
Speaker 10: corner and plays his song. Yeah, I'm very I'm very
Speaker 10: larger than life. Come on, then let's pretend there's a
Speaker 10: band here and let's go for it sort of thing. Nice,
Speaker 10: So yeah, that will we do it a variety of
Speaker 10: different ways really, Sometimes like the guy who's produced my
Speaker 10: tune now Aaron or as he comes up on stage
Speaker 10: me does some tunes like in a duo setting to
Speaker 10: do it on my own, and then hopefully next year
Speaker 10: I'll be getting a proper live band, sort now I reckon.
Speaker 8: Yeah, excellent, excellent. Yeah, it's a lot of work, tell
Speaker 8: me about it, mate, it's a lot of work putting
Speaker 8: all that together. Well, very good. So in a moment,
Speaker 8: I think we're going to and I wish I wish
Speaker 8: we had more time. Like I said, we're running a
Speaker 8: little bit behind today, but I do want to play
Speaker 8: Tomorrow again at the end of the segment to close out,
Speaker 8: because I also love that song and I know, thank
Speaker 8: you mate, and I know we talked about that song
Speaker 8: the last time you were on. But for newer listeners
Speaker 8: who might not have heard that conversation, So Tomorrow and
Speaker 8: this is another song that I really related to in
Speaker 8: a big way because well, tell us refresh our memories
Speaker 8: about the message behind it.
Speaker 10: Yeah, So Tomorrow is a bit of a bit of
Speaker 10: a deep one. It's about like climate change and how
Speaker 10: we're a bit scared to talk about them sort of
Speaker 10: issues still, and how I think we should still be
Speaker 10: talking We should be talking about those issues that why
Speaker 10: are we scared to talk about it? And sometimes when
Speaker 10: you bring them sort of topics up, people shy away
Speaker 10: from it or probably just like disregard you straight away
Speaker 10: because they think you're wrong. When it's happened in front
Speaker 10: of our eyes. Man, to me, we right, we'll start
Speaker 10: talking about these things.
Speaker 8: Right, right exactly. Yeah, and you express that in the
Speaker 8: song and uh, yeah, it's funny. We're having right now
Speaker 8: here in New Hampshire where we are in the US.
Speaker 8: We're about to have some eighty degree weather and it's
Speaker 8: October and that's pretty unnus.
Speaker 10: We've got a storm going on at the moment, but
Speaker 10: it's still I was like walking home earlier and it's raining,
Speaker 10: it's windy, it's cold, and it's warm all at once.
Speaker 9: How was that happening?
Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, it's crazy. Yeah, we're in a drought. We've
Speaker 8: got eighty degree weather in October. It's it's it's wild. Then,
Speaker 8: you know, the political climate in the US. I mean,
Speaker 8: I won't get into it, but I'll just say, you know,
Speaker 8: it's it's not going to get any better as far
Speaker 8: as addressing these issues, I'll just say that.
Speaker 9: I don't think it will overhear mate, So I think
Speaker 9: we're all in the same boat.
Speaker 8: I think we are. I think we very much are
Speaker 8: well Ryan, So we will. We will close out with
Speaker 8: that track before we let you go, though, Where should
Speaker 8: people know about where to find you online to keep
Speaker 8: up with everything that you're doing and get access to
Speaker 8: your music and all that.
Speaker 10: I'm basically available everywhere any social media. It's just at
Speaker 10: Ryan Redwood fifty eight. And then Spotify is the save
Speaker 10: just Ryan Redwood or Apple Music wherever you get your chunes.
Speaker 9: Yeah, just Ryan Redwood everywhere.
Speaker 8: Fantastic, fantastic Ryan. We will do this again when the
Speaker 8: next single is out. Please you know, let us know,
Speaker 8: let people know, and we'll well, we'd love to give
Speaker 8: it another premiere, probably have you back on to talk
Speaker 8: about it. And we love what you're doing. We're big fans,
Speaker 8: so keep up the great work.
Speaker 10: Thank you so much for the support, Mat I really
Speaker 10: do appreciate it. And yes, definitely next single, we'll be back.
Speaker 9: Let's do it.
Speaker 8: Awesome sounds good to me. All right, Ryan, we'll let
Speaker 8: you go.
Speaker 9: Thank you, take care, cheers, mate, Thank you very much.
Speaker 8: You got it all right. That is the great Ryan
Speaker 8: Redwood and we're going to close out this segment with
Speaker 8: This is the first single that we spun of Ryan's
Speaker 8: and I really love this song a lot. Pay attention
Speaker 8: to the lyrics. It does matter.
Speaker 14: This is called Tomorrow Less Escape, the Weaver, mad run
Speaker 14: away for the winter, prolonged, the suffer and and delay,
Speaker 14: the e substantial crisis.
Speaker 15: Falling in surpara els let one story. We will remain
Speaker 15: of us when there's nothing but.
Speaker 1: Just get all say why when it race?
Speaker 2: So that's nothing lam for you.
Speaker 1: To feel when you fell so much.
Speaker 2: The follow on last why this race when.
Speaker 16: You know there's nothing lam far.
Speaker 1: You to feel, when it's all sins running away enough,
Speaker 1: where do we finally say shelter.
Speaker 15: Comedy and answer save won't save us this time. The
Speaker 15: oneida the chats is that we still that's.
Speaker 2: Eagles.
Speaker 1: I'll say, Oh it's you.
Speaker 9: This is your best gay.

Speaker 3: The last far serial let that sobs before lace last.
Speaker 9: This last week.
Speaker 1: That's not being that far serious. That's so.
Speaker 19: Song You are listening to Matt Connorton un least on
Speaker 19: double umn a Study five point three.
Speaker 1: Twenty chse me.
Speaker 20: Heil that he is a miser because the staff are
Speaker 20: all depressed.

Speaker 9: So mad.
Speaker 4: She talk about her that ship chop come out, you
Speaker 4: know Troy for.

Speaker 4: But I can't get my desires. You don't know, you
Speaker 4: don't you can't. She can't, Jill, You're free single jot.
Speaker 4: Except by Sa.
Speaker 6: It was not unt.
Speaker 4: Talks the sail gots.
Speaker 21: So you talked about from tron pots not so.
Speaker 13: Oh.
Speaker 8: I love that. The track is called the Ineffectuals and
Speaker 8: the band is the Fods. And h that is so good.
Speaker 8: That is so good. And we've got Rob Critchley from
Speaker 8: the Fods on the phone with us via WhatsApp. Rob,
Speaker 8: are you there, I'm here, Can you hear me? I can, yes, yes, Hey,
Speaker 8: I love this. I love that song, and I've been
Speaker 8: I've been anxious to talk to you. You sent us
Speaker 8: a couple songs. We're gonna play the other one at
Speaker 8: the end of the segment. But I love the sound
Speaker 8: of the Fods. But now it's interesting though, So the
Speaker 8: Fods tell tell me if I'm if my perception is correct,
Speaker 8: is it not so much a band but more of
Speaker 8: a collective? Would collective be a better word, because it
Speaker 8: seems to it kind of changes in morphs, and and
Speaker 8: tell us about the Fods.
Speaker 22: It absolutely changes the morphs. So there's basically two of
Speaker 22: us who write songs.
Speaker 11: Okay, I write the lyrics and I write the lyrics
Speaker 11: and some of the music.
Speaker 22: And I'm not particularly good musicians, so I send voice
Speaker 22: notes and you know, tinkerings over WhatsApp, and I send
Speaker 22: it to my old school friend of thirty five years
Speaker 22: and I send it over to him who's still in
Speaker 22: Manchester in the UK, and he's he's been in the
Speaker 22: music business with various bands for all that time, and
Speaker 22: he does the majority of the music and putting it
Speaker 22: all together.
Speaker 11: And we've got a.
Speaker 22: Mixed guy who is incredible and he's also dirt cheap
Speaker 22: for us, at least because of hate and he does
Speaker 22: the mixing. So there's three of us, and there's also
Speaker 22: we sometimes use a guitarist out of old old band,
Speaker 22: and we sometimes use a vocalist guitarist out of our
Speaker 22: old band from when we were at school. So all
Speaker 22: and I go all the way back to the I'm
Speaker 22: trying not to age myself late nineteen eighties, and we
Speaker 22: were we were in like, you know, a school band,
Speaker 22: and we tried really hard and we didn't We wrote
Speaker 22: a few decent songs and we won a Battle of
Speaker 22: the Bands, and then we all disappeared off to university
Speaker 22: and he carried on in a different morphed into a
Speaker 22: different band and they did okay, and we sort of lost.
Speaker 11: Contact a little bit. Like I was always like sort
Speaker 11: of following him.
Speaker 22: And when I was at university in London and his
Speaker 22: band came down and played in London, so I went
Speaker 22: and watched it, and so I knew them all and
Speaker 22: they were good guys, and you know, as the two
Speaker 22: thousands went along, I think he got a little bit,
Speaker 22: you know, chewed up by the music industry.
Speaker 11: Like a lot of people have done.
Speaker 8: It happens, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 22: So he was writing really good songs and you know,
Speaker 22: playing half decent venues and you know, not getting any
Speaker 22: traction and not getting any you know, he'd been promised
Speaker 22: deals by record companies and they've never come to fruition
Speaker 22: and all that sort of stuff. You know, a tailor's
Speaker 22: old as the time in the music industry. And during
Speaker 22: COVID he he got hold of a couple of old
Speaker 22: bandmates and during COVID they just set up phones and
Speaker 22: started playing their old stuff and under the name of
Speaker 22: the Good Stock Project, they eventually released like six songs
Speaker 22: or something, and they were all done remotely, like in
Speaker 22: four different rooms, and they found a they found a
Speaker 22: singer who was really good and she did her part remotely.
Speaker 11: And this has gotten on to do the Fodds by
Speaker 11: the way.
Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, no, I want to learn.
Speaker 23: Yes.
Speaker 11: Yeah.
Speaker 22: So during COVID they did six songs all remotely, put
Speaker 22: it on an album six CP cord remote and released it.
Speaker 11: And one of the songs, that's which they didn't.
Speaker 22: Do because for whatever reason they didn't want it on
Speaker 22: the CP and the new singer didn't like like it
Speaker 22: or whatever it was.
Speaker 11: We're shopping, which you're presuming I think you're going to
Speaker 11: play later.
Speaker 22: Yes, yes, so he said to me, He said to me,
Speaker 22: can can you you sort of rework it and like
Speaker 22: change some of the lyrics which may be a bit outdated,
Speaker 22: and you know, we'll we'll re envision it and we'll,
Speaker 22: you know, see where it goes.
Speaker 11: So I'm like, yeah, I've always loved shopping. I think
Speaker 11: it's a great song.
Speaker 22: And while we were talking about this, we started talking
Speaker 22: about the old music we released and like the gigs
Speaker 22: that we played together and all that sort of stuff.
Speaker 11: So he goes, well, while we're doing this, why don't
Speaker 11: we go back and find the seven songs which.
Speaker 22: We did together over a period of like two years
Speaker 22: in the late nineties and see what we can do
Speaker 22: with them as well.
Speaker 11: So that's what we did, and don't argue.
Speaker 22: EP was the first thing in which we put out
Speaker 22: as the Odds and so there's the two of us
Speaker 22: and we used on that EP four different singers and
Speaker 22: so that's how we sort of developed in to this collective.
Speaker 22: And so the four different singers like we sort of
Speaker 22: found because for the first one we didn't have anyone.
Speaker 22: So we just said the first person who said yes,
Speaker 22: we were well, let's try it. Let's see and it
Speaker 22: went quite well. So he did a couple and there's
Speaker 22: a few other people who got involved. And as as
Speaker 22: that album, all those songs off that album got a
Speaker 22: bit more momentum.
Speaker 11: It started to.
Speaker 22: Get easier to entice singers to actually come and do
Speaker 22: it for us. Right, So this is how we ended
Speaker 22: up with Joe Boo. As you can hear from his
Speaker 22: vocal performance in the Indefectuals, you can actually sing. You know,
Speaker 22: he's a real, real talent, and he liked, he liked
Speaker 22: what we did in Dante in Don't Argue EP and
Speaker 22: we you know, we've chatted occasionally on other shows and
Speaker 22: you know, in a couple of Discord channels, and I've
Speaker 22: downloaded his songs and he's listened to ours. So I
Speaker 22: blindly and to text to him, you know, a Facebook
Speaker 22: messenger or whatever, and said, look, do you fancy having
Speaker 22: to go? We've got a new song lined up.
Speaker 24: And he's like, yeah, yeah, give me, give me a
Speaker 24: couple of weeks and then I'll be in some of
Speaker 24: the other stuff over and when I've got time, I'll
Speaker 24: have a look. So we send some other stuff over
Speaker 24: and literally been two weeks it's sent back, you know,
Speaker 24: vocals for it. Wow, this is he's so much better
Speaker 24: than we are.
Speaker 22: Like me and all are like, okay, we've got to
Speaker 22: like really sort of think about what we're going to
Speaker 22: do here. Yeah, And we're going right, the lyrics needs
Speaker 22: changing and like it needs bumping up, and like so
Speaker 22: we scrabbled around for a couple of weeks and send
Speaker 22: him back something and it's like, guys, this is brilliant,
Speaker 22: Like this is coming together really well.
Speaker 11: And he sent it back and we're like, wow, his
Speaker 11: vocals are even better on this first that's great. So
Speaker 11: so so we did all this and.
Speaker 22: All these things which we are doing are all remote.
Speaker 22: So Joe's in Florida, I'm in Jersey City and in
Speaker 22: Manchester in the UK. You know, all these files and
Speaker 22: things are flying back and forth and uh yeah. So
Speaker 22: so eventually we got we got to a place where
Speaker 22: music was getting close to what Joe was putting out.
Speaker 11: And you know, his his vocals are outstanding.
Speaker 22: He's done loads and loads but stuff like he's constantly
Speaker 22: he I think that's what he does is collaborate. He's
Speaker 22: got like a couple of bands that he's getting a
Speaker 22: bit more serious with. Okay, but like he's a he's
Speaker 22: a collaborator and he's been on loads of people's and
Speaker 22: songs and yeah, people should check him out because he's outrageous.
Speaker 4: Yeah.
Speaker 8: Yeah, it's interesting because it's like, something that comes up
Speaker 8: a lot on the show is you know COVID and
Speaker 8: how COVID changed so much. And I feel like, obviously
Speaker 8: it was terrible, but we got to find those silver
Speaker 8: linings where we can. And I think one of the
Speaker 8: one of those few silver linings of the pandemic was
Speaker 8: it kind of forced people to think a little bit
Speaker 8: outside the box in terms of, you know, the technology
Speaker 8: already existed, you know, to share files back and forth,
Speaker 8: and and and and to collaborate via the Internet. But
Speaker 8: I think what the pandemic did it kind of forced
Speaker 8: a lot of people to really embrace it more. And
Speaker 8: so you see a lot more of these kinds of
Speaker 8: projects now where you know, people aren't even in this case,
Speaker 8: not even necessarily on the same continent, right, but you
Speaker 8: can you can collaborate that way, and you can send
Speaker 8: files back and forth, and people are more comfortable with
Speaker 8: it now. And I mean, and and you know, the
Speaker 8: FODS probably, I mean, without the Internet, I think it's
Speaker 8: safe to say the FODS would not exist as a project,
Speaker 8: right because you know, yeah, you wouldn't be able to
Speaker 8: connect all of this.
Speaker 22: So so if yeah, if you look at it like
Speaker 22: it used to be, like it used to have to
Speaker 22: get four or five people into a tiny little room
Speaker 22: and that's how people used to make music.
Speaker 11: And it's not wrong with that. I'd love to do
Speaker 11: that again. Sure, you know, get get, get in a
Speaker 11: studio or get. Because we we we don't really see
Speaker 11: the end products.
Speaker 22: Like I send my bit off and I'm involved in
Speaker 22: the producing and all that sort of stuff, and then
Speaker 22: it goes to mix it and he does his stuff
Speaker 22: and then it comes back to me and I go,
Speaker 22: I don't really know what more to add to that.
Speaker 22: It's outstanding, yeah, you know, And I could give him
Speaker 22: little tip bits and say, oh, at one minute twenty three,
Speaker 22: can you do this instead of this?
Speaker 11: And he goes yeah, and it takes like seconds and
Speaker 11: and he's done. I'm like, okay, that's good. And so
Speaker 11: the technology is so good these days. You know, he
Speaker 11: has a real job. He's not a real.
Speaker 22: Well he is a real mixer because he's incredible at it,
Speaker 22: but he also has a day job and you know,
Speaker 22: this is his side hobby. Oh okay, yeah, and he's outstanding.
Speaker 22: And some of the stuff that we've got coming out.
Speaker 22: So these two songs, The Ineffectuals and Shopping like came
Speaker 22: out in January, and we've been We've had I think
Speaker 22: eight other songs in weird stages of like pre production
Speaker 22: and sitting with about another band or a singer or
Speaker 22: sitting somewhere, and there's there's one song that we've been
Speaker 22: waiting on a singer to do it for like six
Speaker 22: months and eventually we've just had to say to him, look,
Speaker 22: it's been far too long when we need to find
Speaker 22: someone else because and we found someone else and they
Speaker 22: did it.
Speaker 11: In like two weeks.
Speaker 22: So this is this is one of the one of
Speaker 22: the pitfalls about doing it this way, because someone will
Speaker 22: with the best intentions, will go, yeah, it's a great song,
Speaker 22: like I think it will really fit my my voice
Speaker 22: on my tone, and and I'll get around to it,
Speaker 22: you know, I've got a couple of things to do,
Speaker 22: and then you know, in three weeks i'll be there.
Speaker 11: I'll be on it. So in a month later, I'll
Speaker 11: text him back and go, how's it going. Oh, I've
Speaker 11: not quite got around to it yet, you know.
Speaker 22: Give me, give me a couple of weeks and I'll
Speaker 22: So this little back and forth goes on and it
Speaker 22: gets quite awkward. Yeah, no doubt and no doubt, and
Speaker 22: eventually I had to say to him, look, I know
Speaker 22: you really want to do this, but like you've had
Speaker 22: it for six months and pre want to try and
Speaker 22: get an album out in.
Speaker 11: January or February or March or sometime. I don't know
Speaker 11: whether you're going to get me any get me anything
Speaker 11: to to put on it.
Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, I get it.
Speaker 22: And then we gave it to someone else who turned
Speaker 22: it around in three weeks. As much as you want
Speaker 22: a particular person you think this song, I think will
Speaker 22: and you find a person who you know.
Speaker 11: I've trolled through all.
Speaker 22: Sorts of radio stations and streaming platforms just to find
Speaker 22: like someone who's got a sound which we think will
Speaker 22: be great for this particular song. And we've also done
Speaker 22: it right. Just have it and give it a go
Speaker 22: and see what it comes up with. There was a
Speaker 22: there was a song on I Don't Argue which was
Speaker 22: never really meant to be like It turned out to
Speaker 22: be a bit of a shoot gaze indie song and
Speaker 22: it was never never meant to be like that.
Speaker 11: But the guy who we gave it to just gave
Speaker 11: it that vibe.
Speaker 22: Yeah, and it came back and we were like well,
Speaker 22: we weren't expecting this, but this is different book great,
Speaker 22: you know. So one of the things that we really
Speaker 22: want to do is have these singers put their mark
Speaker 22: on our songs as well, because there's no point me's
Speaker 22: sending a setting in something off and saying, right, I
Speaker 22: mean this probably won't happen, but like we've got a
Speaker 22: sound song that sounds like europe m made this like
Speaker 22: Joey Tempest, right right, that's.
Speaker 11: Pointless, So we want them to put their own stamp.
Speaker 22: And we've got obviously, Aura is a female, so we've
Speaker 22: we're looking to get female singers into it as well,
Speaker 22: which opens up a whole new.
Speaker 11: Sort of sound for us.
Speaker 22: So you know, we're not stuck with just like guys
Speaker 22: singing like if we like, we've got two on the
Speaker 22: on the albums coming out that we've we're.
Speaker 11: Going to release them.
Speaker 22: We weren't going to even release this, but one of
Speaker 22: the songs sound came out sounding so good that we're
Speaker 22: right the middle.
Speaker 11: Of October we're going to release it and see what
Speaker 11: people think. And it's nothing. It's not I don't think
Speaker 11: it's even a rock song.
Speaker 22: Oh really, it's sort of a blues blues Ballady type thing.
Speaker 22: Oh nice, you know, may fit on a James Bond theme,
Speaker 22: so we'll see. But like we love it, so yeah,
Speaker 22: see what people think.
Speaker 8: That must be exciting for you though, because as as
Speaker 8: you're coming up with these ideas for these songs and
Speaker 8: you're you're putting lyrics together and so forth, that you know,
Speaker 8: it sounds like it's it's kind of an adventure because
Speaker 8: you don't know once it leaves your hands, you don't
Speaker 8: know exactly what's going to happen to it. And and
Speaker 8: obviously you know you've got to approve whatever whatever happens
Speaker 8: to it. But but with working with these different singers,
Speaker 8: you don't know until it happened is what kind of
Speaker 8: a stamp they're going to put on it. And that
Speaker 8: just must be that must be very exciting. I would
Speaker 8: think you know that.
Speaker 22: It's it's exciting and it's also quite frightening as well, because,
Speaker 22: like you say, you just don't know, so it's a
Speaker 22: huge step into the unknown.
Speaker 11: So we're like, right, there's a song that I wrote.
Speaker 22: And I was listening to a bit more dancy type
Speaker 22: of stuff and I was I'd love to love us
Speaker 22: to put out something because you know, we we don't
Speaker 22: tend to stick to one genre. I'll just put out
Speaker 22: something a little bit more dancing, like with a bit
Speaker 22: of a boogie feel, you know, something like that. And
Speaker 22: I wrote these lyrics. It's a song called Fuel and
Speaker 22: hopefully we'll be.
Speaker 11: Out around Christmas or New York, okay.
Speaker 22: And I wrote it and it's called Fuel, and I
Speaker 22: was thinking about, like, you know, maybe a bit hedonistic
Speaker 22: and dancing at five o'clock in the morning and all
Speaker 22: that sort of stuff. And the way it's turned out
Speaker 22: is like, I don't even know what the term for it.
Speaker 22: It's like sludge stone a metal So it's gone into
Speaker 22: a totally different like genre and spectrum.
Speaker 11: I never thought it, but it's brilliant. It's brilliant. And
Speaker 11: when we.
Speaker 22: Actually gave it to the band who did it, they
Speaker 22: were like, what you're expecting from this? And I explained
Speaker 22: this to them and they were like, right, just leave
Speaker 22: it with me.
Speaker 11: I've got this.
Speaker 22: And he came back and he's a vocal and he's
Speaker 22: also done a guitar solo for it. And if someone
Speaker 22: had said to me, I wrote it, you know, eighteen
Speaker 22: months ago, And if someone said to me eighteen months ago.
Speaker 11: You'll have this five and a half minute long you know,
Speaker 11: goes on like that, and I'll be like, Okay, that's cool.
Speaker 22: But yeah, even writing the lyrics, you don't know where
Speaker 22: it's it's going to go, and you've always got something
Speaker 22: you know in your mind slightly yeah, you know who knows?
Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, no, that's uh, that's really cool. And so
Speaker 8: where should well? Actually a quick question, what does what
Speaker 8: does the name mean?
Speaker 18: Where?
Speaker 8: Where does the name? You probably get this question what
Speaker 8: is a far.
Speaker 12: Right?
Speaker 22: So if you listen to me, I've got a bit
Speaker 22: of an accent, right, yes, from a place called Warrington
Speaker 22: in Cheshire, which is just that side in Manchester in
Speaker 22: the UK, and we all sort of grew up there
Speaker 22: and Warrington is like one of these it's like an
Speaker 22: old mill town and the Euston mill wire in the
Speaker 22: in the in the factories in Warrington. Yeah, and everyone
Speaker 22: My accent is not too bad because I would say
Speaker 22: bad in a broad that's the right word.
Speaker 11: Sorry, yeah, because I went to University.
Speaker 22: Of London and then I've been over and I was
Speaker 22: so was down there for ten years and then I've
Speaker 22: been over in the States for another ten years.
Speaker 11: So whatever accent I had a sort of mellowd sure.
Speaker 22: Well, if you from if you're from Warrington, you say
Speaker 22: things in a particular way, okay.
Speaker 11: And all our guitarist is a place called is from
Speaker 11: a place called Orford in Warrenton.
Speaker 8: Okay.
Speaker 11: And if you say Orthored in a Warrington accident, say Orthored.
Speaker 4: Ah.
Speaker 11: Yeah, see I do. We've dropped the or off and
Speaker 11: so basically, if you say it right, you would be
Speaker 11: the authors.
Speaker 8: Gotcha.
Speaker 11: Now we're just the Fodds.
Speaker 8: Gotcha, gotcha.
Speaker 22: Yeah, it's it's a it's a shortened version of Orford
Speaker 22: in a Warranton accent.
Speaker 8: That makes sense, That makes sense. Well, Rob, Unfortunately, the
Speaker 8: time goes quickly, and I want to make sure we
Speaker 8: get this last uh, this last single in shopping. But well,
Speaker 8: we'll have to have you back Soon's definitely, when the
Speaker 8: next single is ready, we'll have you back, and we'll
Speaker 8: we'll book a longer block of time because I'd love
Speaker 8: to talk to you more.
Speaker 22: But no, that yeah, that sounds great. The new single,
Speaker 22: I'll drop it over to you as well. Oh wonderful
Speaker 22: is very much enough, and it's out on I think
Speaker 22: October seventeens. Oh okay, so I'll drop that over to
Speaker 22: you and you can have a little preview for for
Speaker 22: it and have a little listen and see what thing
Speaker 22: I would love to love to get on with you
Speaker 22: again whenever it's good for you to be honest.
Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, great, No, that'll give us an excuse to
Speaker 8: get you booked again quickly, because I do want to
Speaker 8: have a longer conversation with you. But well, we're gonna go.
Speaker 8: We're gonna spend this track shopping and this is with So,
Speaker 8: this is with Ora Davis on vocals.
Speaker 11: Correct, Yes, okay, she's yeah.
Speaker 22: I found her when we first started looking for people,
Speaker 22: and I never thought you'd give us a shot either. Yeah,
Speaker 22: but people, people are generous with their time and generous
Speaker 22: with their talents. And you know, we're grateful for all
Speaker 22: the people that we've worked with, and we hope they've
Speaker 22: had a good experience with it as well, because you know,
Speaker 22: we've got something really good out of all this this experience,
Speaker 22: and everyone that we speak to it seems to well,
Speaker 22: you know, people are nice and may not tell us
Speaker 22: the truth.
Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, gotcha. All right, Rob, we will let you go.
Speaker 8: We're gonna spin this track. But thank you so much
Speaker 8: for joining us and yeah, well, we'll have you back
Speaker 8: on soon for sure.
Speaker 11: Sounds good. I appreciate you, thanks very much.
Speaker 8: All right, you got it, Rob, Thank you by bye?
Speaker 11: All right, bye bye bye.
Speaker 8: All right. That is that's Rob from the Fods. Let's
