Field Dispatch
Matt Connarton Unleashed 5-9-26 hour 2
Game Plan
Speaker 1: B w M N H rips the normals.
Speaker 2: When Mattso wakes up in the morning, he gets into
Speaker 2: the shower and to the top of his lungs, he sings.
Speaker 3: I.
Speaker 4: Do what I want because I can.
Speaker 2: All right back to the radio show now all the
Speaker 2: best Jerry.
Speaker 5: Will start well.
Speaker 6: And the non.
Speaker 2: Same.
Speaker 7: What the f I opened up the a.
Speaker 5: To the ban.
Speaker 1: Enough to make that all.
Speaker 8: Can never shot a roll as on a closer because.
Speaker 5: Rolf and hold him back.
Speaker 1: I can see.
Speaker 7: What I believe I opened up for me, gettenough.
Speaker 1: To me that all.
Speaker 3: That is Sophia Gilani and the brand new single of Vulnerability,
Speaker 3: and I believe we have Sophia on the align with us.
Speaker 3: Fia WhatsApp Sophia are you there?
Speaker 9: Hi?
Speaker 10: Hello, I'm here. Thank you so much for having.
Speaker 3: Me absolutely wellcome back to the show. The last time
Speaker 3: that we had you on, I think we were. I
Speaker 3: think you had just released wake Up. Does that make sense? Yep, yep.
Speaker 11: Yes, I've just released wake Up, my first album, my
Speaker 11: first single to my new album that's coming out really
Speaker 11: really exciting. Have I loved the response that's happened so far?
Speaker 3: Yeah, excellent, excellent. So I really like this track. Vulnerability.
Speaker 3: The first thing, well, two things I noticed about it
Speaker 3: right away as it's first of all, it's got kind
Speaker 3: of a to me anyway, it has kind of a
Speaker 3: summertime vibe, which I like because that's my favorite time
Speaker 3: of year. And as we move into spring here, I
Speaker 3: enjoy that that. I mean, that was that's what I
Speaker 3: hear in it. But also, but I think part of
Speaker 3: the reason I hear that is it's also very sort
Speaker 3: of and I noticed this with some of your other
Speaker 3: tracks too, it's very sort of stripped down. There's not
Speaker 3: a lot going on in terms of well, I shouldn't
Speaker 3: put it that way, but it's it's very you know,
Speaker 3: it's like you can clearly hear all the percussion and
Speaker 3: it's very sort of it's not overproduced in that sense,
Speaker 3: do you know what? You know what I'm trying to say,
Speaker 3: I think.
Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, I mean I wanted to keep it, you know,
Speaker 11: clear to the message simplistic.
Speaker 10: I want it to be just really a banger, if
Speaker 10: that makes sense.
Speaker 11: I want to listen to music. I want to make
Speaker 11: music that I want to listen to really, and you're right,
Speaker 11: I mean, it definitely is, even though it is quite
Speaker 11: a raw track. It is definitely one with a summer vibe.
Speaker 11: I love some of the most as well. I'm enjoying
Speaker 11: the sunshine right now during this interview, but I want
Speaker 11: it to be quite lighthearted, quite you know. That's why
Speaker 11: the beats, you know, upbeat, but with that like simplistic,
Speaker 11: down to earth message.
Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, Is that something that you try to go
Speaker 3: out of your way to do with a lot of
Speaker 3: because I feel like a lot of your work is
Speaker 3: like that. It's not it's not super overproduced as not,
Speaker 3: you know, so much going on where you almost kind
Speaker 3: of get distracted from the vocals or you know, like
Speaker 3: a lot of modern music is like that. But I
Speaker 3: feel like a lot of your I haven't listened everything necessarily,
Speaker 3: but I've listened to a lot of it and on
Speaker 3: your I'm looking at your SoundCloud right now, in fact,
Speaker 3: and I feel like a lot of it is like that.
Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean, less is more, really, And I feel
Speaker 11: like I'm quite a perfectionist when it comes to music, so,
Speaker 11: you know, adding too much, I feel like it just
Speaker 11: complicates from what I'm trying to do in the first place.
Speaker 11: And you know, everyone kind of worries that, oh is
Speaker 11: it commercial? Is it relatable da DA But honestly, as
Speaker 11: long as it just sounds good to me, it doesn't
Speaker 11: need to be overproduced, doesn't need to have all these
Speaker 11: unnecessary effects, because I also want it to hit just
Speaker 11: as well in performances and live.
Speaker 3: Right, that's true, And it does make sense if it's
Speaker 3: not overproduced in the studio, then when you're trying to
Speaker 3: replicate that live, it's a little less a little less
Speaker 3: daunting in some ways. Right, It's almost it's almost less
Speaker 3: to worry about in that sense. I would think.
Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean, you know, when when people come to
Speaker 11: my shows, I want them to you know, get what
Speaker 11: they get what they want essentially, and I want them
Speaker 11: to have this overduced song that has like ten thousand
Speaker 11: harmonies all over it, and then performance and it's like
Speaker 11: one vocal and it's a bit more slower. So, yeah,
Speaker 11: I wanted my music to be it's easy to listen
Speaker 11: to a bad thing.
Speaker 10: I'm not sure. I just I songwrite all of it myself.
Speaker 10: I'm very independent.
Speaker 11: I have foot in every single part of the process,
Speaker 11: and me and my producer we just don't like to,
Speaker 11: you know, try too hard on one track and then
Speaker 11: overthink it before it releases.
Speaker 3: Right right when you do You ever run into a
Speaker 3: situation where you're in the studio, you're recording, and something
Speaker 3: begins to sort of become too dense and you have
Speaker 3: to say, no, we're kind of going in the wrong
Speaker 3: direction with this, We're putting too much on it. We
Speaker 3: need to kind of strip this back a little bit.
Speaker 10: Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 11: I mean with the new album coming out, it's my
Speaker 11: first ever album, so we wanted to construct it in
Speaker 11: a way that was that reflected my musical journey. I've
Speaker 11: started quite young, and so looking at all the songs individually,
Speaker 11: we thought were great, but some of them, like some
Speaker 11: of them didn't sound coherent at first, Like towards the doing,
Speaker 11: some of them sounded maybe more some more overproduced than others,
Speaker 11: And we really did have to strip it back to
Speaker 11: what is the message that we want to convey with
Speaker 11: this album? Why do we want wake up to start it?
Speaker 11: You know, how have I progressed so far? How do
Speaker 11: I show that? How do I show you know, the
Speaker 11: Sophia Glani that I am today in comparison to who
Speaker 11: I was a few years ago with songs that were
Speaker 11: even more stripped back because I was.
Speaker 3: Just learning right, No, that makes sense. So the new album,
Speaker 3: when is the new album out?
Speaker 10: It's coming out at the end of May.
Speaker 11: We've had to push it back a few times, but
Speaker 11: that's just just because similar to what I just said before,
Speaker 11: actually we were just reevaluating and reassessing. But also it's
Speaker 11: going to be coming on vinyl, which is really really exciting,
Speaker 11: so we've been figuring out the distribution of that.
Speaker 3: Is is vinyl still very important over there? I know
Speaker 3: that in America, I think it was a few years ago,
Speaker 3: might have been twenty twenty three or twenty twenty four,
Speaker 3: it was the first time since the advent of CDs
Speaker 3: that actually outsold CDs. That's how the resurgence has been here.
Speaker 3: Is it like that where you.
Speaker 11: Are definitely, I mean more people my age are definitely
Speaker 11: wanting to have, you know, a product in their hands,
Speaker 11: have something meaningful to them because I feel like, you know,
Speaker 11: with streaming services, love it, but you know, sometimes it
Speaker 11: can feel like this weird numbers game where you want
Speaker 11: people to listen to.
Speaker 10: It so that you know, you feel seen.
Speaker 11: And I just kind of wanted my song to be
Speaker 11: in that my very first one anyway, to be in
Speaker 11: that product. So people have something from me, so it
Speaker 11: feels personal. And also I feel like not a lot
Speaker 11: of independent artists are taking that risk, taking that risk
Speaker 11: to make vinyl, put their blood, sweat and tiers and
Speaker 11: you know, distributing it and getting it made and all that,
Speaker 11: which in itself is a tricky process.
Speaker 10: But yeah, yeah, I want people to have that vinyl.
Speaker 10: And it's actually available for pre order right now my
Speaker 10: band Camp, which is really exciting.
Speaker 3: Oh excellent. I'm glad you mentioned band camp too, because
Speaker 3: band campus is such a great I'm a big advocate
Speaker 3: for band camp and I don't do yeah. Yeah, Well,
Speaker 3: the thing that I always say, and we might have
Speaker 3: even talked about this before, because I've talked about this
Speaker 3: with a number of guests, is how if you download,
Speaker 3: if you purchase and download music from band camp, you're
Speaker 3: actually getting a higher quality file than say, if you're
Speaker 3: just streaming it on YouTube or even Spotify. You really
Speaker 3: get the best possible product that you can as far
Speaker 3: as a download if you get it from band camp.
Speaker 3: So I'm a big advocate for that.
Speaker 11: Definitely me too, especially since I don't know, maybe this
Speaker 11: is just a personal opinion, but Spotify isn't really hitting
Speaker 11: it for me nowadays, I feel like, you know, there's
Speaker 11: so many there's so many like independent artists that I'm
Speaker 11: missing out on Spotify, And Spotify doesn't really benefit independent
Speaker 11: artists as much as say band camp does, where you know,
Speaker 11: you can actually help the artists, you get better quality,
Speaker 11: like you said, and it just feels like more of
Speaker 11: a contribution to the music industry where Spotify it feels like.
Speaker 10: You know, everyone's weirdly competing.
Speaker 11: You know, you have to splash out on adverts and
Speaker 11: campaigns and you know what I mean, It's just such
Speaker 11: a convolution process.
Speaker 10: So yeah, massive advocate of band camp as well.
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Now so is wake Up? Wake Up
Speaker 3: will be the first track that opens the album, I
Speaker 3: assume because the album is called wake Up as you said.
Speaker 11: It's actually called Reconceptualized, but wake Up is the first
Speaker 11: single on it yet.
Speaker 3: Oh okay, gotcha? Gotcha? And how many tracks are gonna
Speaker 3: be on the album? How many songs?
Speaker 10: Thirteen thirteen?
Speaker 3: Wow?
Speaker 10: We put a lot on it. We were like, you
Speaker 10: know what, we're just going to do this one album.
Speaker 10: There's not going to be like any DeLux. We're not
Speaker 10: messing around. It's one album, you know, just for you,
Speaker 10: you know, oh.
Speaker 3: Great, okay, okay. And then so will that include all
Speaker 3: of the singles that you've released up to now or
Speaker 3: are there some that won't be on the album?
Speaker 10: Yeah.
Speaker 11: I think there's around three or four that I've already released,
Speaker 11: but there's a lot of new stuff on there. I mean,
Speaker 11: my genre is pop, but I'd like to mix pop
Speaker 11: sometimes with what I'm listening to, whether it be R
Speaker 11: and B or drill or garage. So it's really a
Speaker 11: mix of old and new and you know, me trying
Speaker 11: some new things in my production, et cetera, et cetera.
Speaker 3: Right, excellent, excellent. And then have you been playing live?
Speaker 3: Have you been touring?
Speaker 11: Yes, We've been doing a lot of performances recently.
Speaker 10: Actually, literally two days.
Speaker 11: Ago, just played not in Hill Art's Club, which was
Speaker 11: really cool in London. It was sold out, really cool,
Speaker 11: and in on the thirty first of May. At the
Speaker 11: end of this month, we'll actually be going to Ireland
Speaker 11: to play in a festival at Waterford near Dublin, which
Speaker 11: is cool.
Speaker 3: Oh, very good, very good. I always say festivals are
Speaker 3: the best because not only oh yeah, well, not only
Speaker 3: does it get you in front of a huge audience,
Speaker 3: and it's a great way to build your fan base
Speaker 3: and rapidly, you know. Uh, but also to just the
Speaker 3: contacts that you make, you know, with other industry people
Speaker 3: at a festival. It's it's really invaluable and uh yeah,
Speaker 3: definitely can be very very helpful. And then will you
Speaker 3: be releasing uh, because I know you've got you've got
Speaker 3: some videos. Will you be releasing videos with the album
Speaker 3: for these songs?
Speaker 10: Yes?
Speaker 11: Well, we've got visuals for a song on the album
Speaker 11: called Don't Forget Yourself, which are in the process of
Speaker 11: being edited. And you know, even after the album's released,
Speaker 11: we've still got visuals that we're planning to work on,
Speaker 11: including because the album's called Reconceptualized, the song Reconceptualized is
Speaker 11: going to get its own visuals soon as well.
Speaker 3: Oh very cool.
Speaker 11: You know, love being creative in every single form of it,
Speaker 11: whether it be songwriting, singing, playing festivals and then being
Speaker 11: a director behind the scenes, you know what I mean,
Speaker 11: right right?
Speaker 3: Tell me about the title. I'm curious about the title Reconceptualized.
Speaker 3: Why why did you choose that?
Speaker 10: Yeah?
Speaker 11: So, I mean we've played around with a lot of titles,
Speaker 11: including like Pieces of Me, but the reason why Reconceptualize
Speaker 11: kind of stuck is because not only is it not
Speaker 11: a very frequently used word, but it kind of encapsulates
Speaker 11: what I was.
Speaker 10: Trying to do with my album.
Speaker 11: I started music at twelve, and since then I've been
Speaker 11: going through ups and downs, and really at this point,
Speaker 11: now I'm eighteen, I'm rethinking what it means to be
Speaker 11: feared on it, what it means to make music, because
Speaker 11: I definitely songwriter and articulate myself a lot better than
Speaker 11: I did back then. So my first album is called
Speaker 11: Reconceptualized because it's my starting point as to how I'm thinking,
Speaker 11: I'm what Sophia Glani is going to be, and then
Speaker 11: hopefully my albums in the future will be an answer
Speaker 11: to that in a way.
Speaker 3: Okay, okay, very good. It's great that you have a
Speaker 3: plan and that you you know, because a lot of people,
Speaker 3: you know, especially people who get started young, they you know,
Speaker 3: they're just kind of throwing everything against the wall and
Speaker 3: see what sticks. But you know, but you've clearly got
Speaker 3: a plan and you've got some good people around you too.
Speaker 3: You mentioned that the producer that you work with, Yes, his.
Speaker 10: Name is Doctor Kane's really really cool.
Speaker 11: Yeah, we've He's been there throughout this whole process, which
Speaker 11: is why this album is very very special to me.
Speaker 11: But I mean, like you said, I've got a plan
Speaker 11: just because I always I love making music.
Speaker 10: I'm always songwriting, I'm always recording.
Speaker 11: Even after this album will be released, I'm going to
Speaker 11: release more because I just love to do it, not
Speaker 11: because I want to keep releasing and hope that you know,
Speaker 11: someday something really really sticks and.
Speaker 10: I get really really big, you know what I mean.
Speaker 11: I just want to continue doing what I'm doing, and
Speaker 11: this album is a stepping points.
Speaker 3: Yeah. No, that's that's outstanding. Well, very good. Well we
Speaker 3: look forward to I was thinking about at the end
Speaker 3: of our conversation because you know, we played Vulnerability. I
Speaker 3: was seeing it at the end. I might play wake
Speaker 3: Up again. I really like that track. And then absolutely absolutely,
Speaker 3: and then you know, we'll have you back in the
Speaker 3: future obviously because you know, as you're going to be
Speaker 3: releasing more singles and you know it gives us an
Speaker 3: excuse to have you back on.
Speaker 10: But yes, absolutely, thank you so much for your support.
Speaker 10: I've loved having this conversation.
Speaker 3: Oh absolutely, Sophia. Where's the best place to go online?
Speaker 3: For people who want to keep up with everything that
Speaker 3: you're doing.
Speaker 11: I'd honestly say the three main which is Instagram at
Speaker 11: Sofia Dotnica, doc Glani, TikTok, which is just spha Glani,
Speaker 11: and my Spotify which is also Sophia Glani.
Speaker 10: But honestly, you'll find me anywhere.
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, your name is very very googleable. As I
Speaker 3: like to.
Speaker 10: Say, thank you, you're not you're.
Speaker 3: Not competing with a lot of other Sophia Gilani's, which
Speaker 3: is a good thing. Hit exactly exactly, well, very good.
Speaker 3: So we'll let you go and we're going to hit
Speaker 3: this track, wake Up. But Sophia Gilani, thank you very
Speaker 3: much and we'll talk to you again soon, I'm sure.
Speaker 10: Thank you so much. Enjoy wake Up, Thank.
Speaker 3: You, thank you. You got to take care bye bye.
Speaker 1: All right.
Speaker 3: That is Sophia Gilani and let's give this a spin.
Speaker 3: This is called wake Up. The album is reconceptualized and
Speaker 3: it will be out soon. Make sure you look for
Speaker 3: that and you'll be able to get it on vinyl,
Speaker 3: which is pretty cool. But here it is. This is
Speaker 3: wake Up by Sophia Gilani.
Speaker 1: Wake Up, I go kill me that gentle don't know
Speaker 1: the day, but.
Speaker 11: So much night.
Speaker 5: I can lie's nervous.
Speaker 10: Just don't need a miss TV.
Speaker 12: I always miss.
Speaker 1: Shiny things to track me in the open.
Speaker 13: Mine what you said, but.
Speaker 10: I know it is it's too.
Speaker 3: Do stay you make me way.
Speaker 12: And it'll be tamaara.
Speaker 7: Where I guess look kill the man o. The same
Speaker 7: of face makes because the time of wait a basic
Speaker 7: tamea bara.
Speaker 1: I don't want to just today, don't need in your.
Speaker 5: Tafara.
Speaker 7: Stay in feels like God just suddenly high is heels
Speaker 7: in a different party every day.
Speaker 10: Daisy sun toys.
Speaker 6: Maybe Daisy was fine.
Speaker 10: I've never done this.
Speaker 1: And don't know. Is my sof on the fire. I
Speaker 1: don't need.
Speaker 10: Any want to have a good tar, keep my eyes
Speaker 10: clubbed and follow.
Speaker 1: The way about beef.
Speaker 10: Peta is a piece butt him.
Speaker 12: Know if you.
Speaker 1: Do the same, you make me and then will pizza tiberfara.
Speaker 1: I is my tot of my.
Speaker 7: Other to say my face someway it'll be the taba bara.
Speaker 10: Good wake up, wake up.
Speaker 3: That is wake up from Sophia Gilani and of course
Speaker 3: you'll be able to hear that on her new album
Speaker 3: Coming Up, reconceptualized her first album, her first release so
Speaker 3: great to have her back on the show. Uh. And uh,
Speaker 3: she's got a lot of great music. Actually, if you
Speaker 3: look on SoundCloud, you can find uh, you can find
Speaker 3: a lot there. But band Camp, you know, we talked
Speaker 3: about band Camp. That's probably uh, well that is I'm
Speaker 3: sure the best resource for you know, like I was saying,
Speaker 3: you know, you get you get the best quality file
Speaker 3: available from band camp. So I really encourage that. H
Speaker 3: what we're going to do now, I want to play.
Speaker 3: So last week on the show, we opened the show
Speaker 3: with the world radio premiere of the new track from
Speaker 3: Chasing the Devil and I do happen. For those of
Speaker 3: you watching the show via video, whether it be YouTube
Speaker 3: or Facebook or wherever, you might notice, I'm wearing my
Speaker 3: Chasing the Devil's shirt. I love this song wired. So
Speaker 3: we're gonna give this another spin. This deserves another spin.
Speaker 3: This is such a great track. I love everything, literally
Speaker 3: everything that they've put out. And they're really good guys.
Speaker 3: And I've known Jay Bellow forever, and you know he
Speaker 3: always gives us the first crack at the at radio
Speaker 3: play with these songs. We always get to do the
Speaker 3: world radio premiere here with when it comes to Chasing
Speaker 3: the Devil. So I'm addicted to this song. I'm going
Speaker 3: to give this a spin, and so if you miss
Speaker 3: it last week, here it is. And if you heard
Speaker 3: it last week, you'd probably like to hear it again.
Speaker 3: And then after this we're probably gonna come back and
Speaker 3: do a little bit of music news. There is some
Speaker 3: music industry news that I find very interesting. And if
Speaker 3: you are listening live on Saturday, coming up in the
Speaker 3: third hour, we've got Viva Los Villain's great band who's
Speaker 3: going to be joining us again via WhatsApp all the
Speaker 3: way from across the Pond. As we say, so, there's
Speaker 3: still a lot of show to go, but here it is.
Speaker 3: This is wired to a single from Chasing the Devil.
Speaker 13: Keep Me Alive, about the neatingstone, reaching for something that's nothing,
Speaker 13: a hole.
Speaker 1: It's not so easy feeling.
Speaker 3: Sweet but long nowhere it's so lone.
Speaker 1: Deep in the ass, can't feel it.
Speaker 5: I'm gone stuff fatting form there.
Speaker 1: A long time.
Speaker 6: Ago this heartbeat would finding sweet, fun old thing.
Speaker 1: I can't deep you.
Speaker 6: Chime in the body so long, don't recognized the man
Speaker 6: become I said the town.
Speaker 1: Continue please ones jup should take.
Speaker 14: Before so down of food, no stream, crowd on the missile.

Speaker 1: I'm protecting ball.
Speaker 5: You can't talk stream down if this all my phone? M?
Speaker 8: Why long stream no crowd, help missa boom a strange
Speaker 8: out no sound.
Speaker 1: I'm protecting ball.
Speaker 5: You can't talk stream now? Is this all my phone? M?
Speaker 6: Why throw me alive because of feeling so lost? Kick
Speaker 6: phoond me and body consu toes I do that.
Speaker 9: I'm not good for you. It's so up the filling
Speaker 9: my apost to do the out sound the south given
Speaker 9: enough Fiell saying the drums pick out enough.
Speaker 13: I know I'm so much btal sand.
Speaker 1: It's no stream, no crowd.
Speaker 5: I'm a missible a stream town.
Speaker 8: No sound. I'm protecting bos. You can't talk stream now.
Speaker 8: This is all my boat?
Speaker 5: Or about why.
Speaker 8: Not stream no crowds a stream time no sound.
Speaker 1: I'm protecting boat.
Speaker 5: You can't talk stream now. This this on my boat
Speaker 5: or my.
Speaker 3: Love those guys. The track is wired. The band is
Speaker 3: chasing the devil. And you heard it here first on
Speaker 3: the radio on Matt connorton Unleashed Live on WMNH ninety
Speaker 3: five point three FM. It is Saturday, May nine, twenty
Speaker 3: twenty six, and of course you can listen to us
Speaker 3: on ninety five point three FM in the Manchester, New
Speaker 3: Hampshire area, or you can stream the show from anywhere
Speaker 3: but to Matt connorton dot com, slash live or the
Speaker 3: new I keep forgetting I gotta mention the new website
Speaker 3: Matt connorton unleashed dot com click live. Of course, you
Speaker 3: can get the archives for the show. You can find
Speaker 3: our new blogs that were putting up all kinds of
Speaker 3: good stuff that we've got going on here on the show.
Speaker 3: Thank you again to Sofia Golani for joining us just
Speaker 3: a little bit ago. And in the first hour we
Speaker 3: had Johnny Collins from Modesty Blaze and coming up in
Speaker 3: the third hour for those of you listening live on Saturday,
Speaker 3: we have Viva Los Villains. Right now, though, there is
Speaker 3: some music industry news that we should take a look at.
Speaker 3: Always interesting things happening in the music industry. Somebody's always
Speaker 3: sueing somebody, there's always some sort of controversy, lots of
Speaker 3: lots of good stuff. This is from Digitalmusicnews dot com.
Speaker 3: This is one of my favorite resources for music industry news.
Speaker 3: Always some interesting articles here right on their homepage, and
Speaker 3: I've got a couple here, a couple things pulled up
Speaker 3: we can look at, and you know, they both relate
Speaker 3: to things that we've discussed on the show, obviously one
Speaker 3: of them being dynamic pricing. This article is titled and
Speaker 3: this just went up two days ago, dynamic pricing strikes again.
Speaker 3: Olivia Rodrigo's AMX Ticketmaster pre sale quickly devolve into a
Speaker 3: price spiked nightmare. Now, for those of you who don't
Speaker 3: know what dynamic pricing is, and we've been talking about
Speaker 3: it on the show for at least a couple of
Speaker 3: years now, it's something that ticket Master uses, it's something
Speaker 3: that other They've tried it in other industries, even fast food.
Speaker 3: I think Wendy's was trying to do this at one
Speaker 3: point but it kind of didn't work out. But dynamic
Speaker 3: pricing is where the price of something will fluctuate depending
Speaker 3: on demand for whatever it is, for whatever service item
Speaker 3: or in this case tickets. Ticketmaster has been using this
Speaker 3: so when demand is high for a certain show, then
Speaker 3: the ticket price will increase quite a bit. In some cases,
Speaker 3: if demand is low, the ticket price will automatically go down.
Speaker 3: So it makes sense in theory, but it causes a
Speaker 3: lot of problems. But gone are the days seemingly so,
Speaker 3: or at least with some shows where you know you
Speaker 3: know what the price is, the price of a ticket
Speaker 3: is announced and you say, okay, that's the price.
Speaker 10: Now.
Speaker 3: Of course, with ticketmaty there's also the problem of you
Speaker 3: go on to their site, you think a ticket costs
Speaker 3: a certain amount, and then by the time you get
Speaker 3: to check out, the ticket price is nearly doubled with
Speaker 3: all the fees and taxes and everything else it gets
Speaker 3: added on that they don't tell you about upfront, even
Speaker 3: though the Federal Trade Commission has told them you got
Speaker 3: to start displaying that all up front, not waiting till
Speaker 3: the end when they go to check out, and all
Speaker 3: of a sudden, the ticket price is twice what it was,
Speaker 3: or you know, close to twice forty percent higher, whatever
Speaker 3: it is, right, So, but dynamic pricing is where the
Speaker 3: price automatically fluctuates based on demand. And again some people
Speaker 3: really really hate this. But apparently this Olivia Rodrigo tour
Speaker 3: has already When we talked about this the first time
Speaker 3: on the show, I think it had to do with
Speaker 3: the Oasis tour. The Oasis reunion tour that was happening
Speaker 3: in the UK where they were using dynamic pricing, and
Speaker 3: it just it just caused all kinds of issues. We
Speaker 3: won't revisit that, we'll focus on this, but this is
Speaker 3: the newest kerfuffle, a word that I feel has not
Speaker 3: used nearly enough involving dynamic pricing. So again, this is
Speaker 3: from Music Business Worldwide. Oh no, I'm sorry, this is
Speaker 3: from Digital Musicnews dot com. Music Business Worldwide is a
Speaker 3: great side too, but this is from Digital Musicnews dot com.
Speaker 3: Ticketmaster's dynamic pricing strikes again, angering fans with exorbitant ticket
Speaker 3: prices that some said should be illegal for an arena show.
Speaker 3: Olivia Rodrigo, who by the way, was the musical guest
Speaker 3: on Saturday Night Live last weekend if you missed it,
Speaker 3: Olivia Rodrigo is embarking on the Unraveled Tour, a global
Speaker 3: trek with sixty five plus dates and support of her
Speaker 3: forthcoming third album, but fans are already disgruntled over the
Speaker 3: pre sale ticket prices. Unfortunately, it's a tale we've heard before. Yeah,
Speaker 3: the article even references this has become a problem that
Speaker 3: you know, we've certainly discussed many times on this show,
Speaker 3: it says here. On Tuesday, the pre sale for the
Speaker 3: Live Nation Promoted tour kicked off for American Express Card members.
Speaker 3: But when tickets first went on sale, fans quickly took
Speaker 3: to social media to vent their frustrations over sky high
Speaker 3: prices for an arena performance. Prices ranged from over two
Speaker 3: hundred to eight hundred dollars depending on location. Either way,
Speaker 3: not for nothing, but we live in a time where
Speaker 3: that actually doesn't sound I mean, you know, compared to
Speaker 3: what ticket prices were twenty years ago, that sounds very high.
Speaker 3: But I feel like tickets to any kind of arena show,
Speaker 3: whether it's music or you know, you see this. This
Speaker 3: is a big subject in professional wrestling right now. They
Speaker 3: talk about it on all these podcasts. We've talked about
Speaker 3: it on Tough Bumps, the wrestling podcasts that I do
Speaker 3: with Eric Pilcher and Austin Hicks. That's every Sunday night,
Speaker 3: by the way, usually well, I should say afternoon, usually
Speaker 3: around four pm Eastern. We go live find it online.
Speaker 3: That's strictly online, that's not associated with the radio station.
Speaker 3: But but uh, in fact, someone gave me some off
Speaker 3: air advice last night that maybe I should do more
Speaker 3: of that anyway, if you know, you know, but uh yeah,
Speaker 3: so so. But this is a problem with WWE events too,
Speaker 3: where people are getting you know, families, This is a
Speaker 3: big discussion going on right now. Families are getting priced out,
Speaker 3: you know, not being able to go to WWE events
Speaker 3: unless they happen to be wealthy because the cost has
Speaker 3: become so prohibitive. Okay, but to me, two day one
Speaker 3: hundred dollars, it almost that almost Maybe I've just become desensitized.
Speaker 3: Maybe a lot of us have that almost sounds normal.
Speaker 3: Now two day, eight hundred dollars. I look at that
Speaker 3: number and I think, yeah, I'm not that surprised, it
Speaker 3: says here again, going back to the article, many would
Speaker 3: be attendees admitted that they were willing to dish out
Speaker 3: more for Taylor Swift's airstore, which was a stadium level
Speaker 3: blowout affair, with each show lasting over three and a
Speaker 3: half hours. But as much as fans love Olivia, she's
Speaker 3: no tailor. One fan wrote on Twitter, quote, in no
Speaker 3: universe should any standard seated tickets be what is that pounds?
Speaker 3: You know this is I'm just going to convert it
Speaker 3: to dollars I don't know how else to do it.
Speaker 3: In no universe should any standard sea seated tickets be
Speaker 3: the three hundred dollars plus let alone in the in
Speaker 3: a twenty thousand capacity arena. I paid one hundred and
Speaker 3: fifty dollars for seats at Wembley's for the at Wembley
Speaker 3: for the airstore, a ninety k capacity stadium, for a
Speaker 3: three and a half hour show, and forgive me, I
Speaker 3: must take a gulf of water because my allergies are
Speaker 3: still terrible and I'm really feeling it in my throat.
Speaker 3: Bear with me. Does the mic pick up my swallowing
Speaker 3: the water? I'm curious, let's see. Another person wrote on Twitter,
Speaker 3: quote the prices for Olivia Rodrigo are actually making me sick.
Speaker 3: I would understand if it was one ten for standing
Speaker 3: in a stadium, but an arena. Another person wrote, what
Speaker 3: do you mean a back row of the two is
Speaker 3: being sold for one forty seven in some sections? Absolutely
Speaker 3: ridiculous pricing. Another person said literally watch ticket prices go
Speaker 3: up as I was in the queue as well, and
Speaker 3: another person wrote those Olivia Rodrigo ticket prices were disgusting.
Speaker 3: What business do you have charging Beyonce prices in the
Speaker 3: O two Arena. Oh my goodness, the article continues, but
Speaker 3: it's not just rodrig Or Rodrigo's shows that have drawn
Speaker 3: the ire of fans. Sabrina Carpenter, Zach Bryan, Ghost, Green Day,
Speaker 3: and Bruce Springsteen fans have all sung the same song
Speaker 3: complaining about Ticketmaster's infamous dynamic pricing. The idea behind okay,
Speaker 3: so this is I explained this before the article, but
Speaker 3: the article might explain it more succinctly. The idea behind
Speaker 3: dynamic pricing is that ticket prices increase based on demand,
Speaker 3: but many fans have pointed out that nothing in the
Speaker 3: industry will change as long as people continue to pay
Speaker 3: such prices. One Twitter user said, no wonder everyone thinks
Speaker 3: they can go do massive tours when people can sell
Speaker 3: out in seconds at five hundred dollars. Good point. Another said,
Speaker 3: y'all need to stop complaining and just mutually agree to
Speaker 3: refuse to pay these unreasonable ticket prices. Olivia Dean played
Speaker 3: the same venue as Noah Kan and Olivia Rodrigo, and
Speaker 3: it sold out shows at half the price. Indeed, the
Speaker 3: demand for Rodrigo's shows has been such that new dates
Speaker 3: have already been added in London. Initially, she was scheduled
Speaker 3: to play four shows at the O two Arena between
Speaker 3: April five and nine, but this has been doubled with
Speaker 3: shows on April twelve, fourteen, fifteen, and nineteen. Wow this
Speaker 3: demand all right, my god. Other news shows have been
Speaker 3: added in Amsterdam and Paris and and State side. Joining
Speaker 3: her on the tour will be grace ives and we
Speaker 3: don't need to get in all that. There's some details
Speaker 3: about the tour at the end, but the point is yes,
Speaker 3: dynamic pricing in fact strikes again and some people are
Speaker 3: very upset. Also, and Taylor Swift's name came up in
Speaker 3: that article. This is another thing happening from Digital Musicnews
Speaker 3: dot com. Now this I knew nothing about. This is
Speaker 3: new to me, but this just went up. Taylor Swift's
Speaker 3: legal team tears quote absurd trademark claims by former Vegas
Speaker 3: showgirl to shreds and threatens legal retaliation. I did not
Speaker 3: pre read this. I have no idea what we're getting
Speaker 3: into with this. I just saw this. It looked interesting,
Speaker 3: I guess as a Vegas showgirl causing some legal problems
Speaker 3: for Taylor Swift. I have no idea what this is?
Speaker 3: This is about? We will all learn together. Okay, here
Speaker 3: we go Taylor Swift's legal team and again, this is
Speaker 3: from Digital Music News dot com. Taylor Swift's legal team
Speaker 3: launches a counter attack against a former Vegas showgirl, accusing
Speaker 3: her of clout chasing with her trademark infringement claim. Taylor
Speaker 3: Swift's legal team has officially opposed an injunction request from
Speaker 3: former Vegas showgirl Maren Wade, who filed a trademark infringement
Speaker 3: lawsuit against Swift earlier this year over the title of
Speaker 3: her twenty twenty five album The Life of a Showgirl. Okay,
Speaker 3: now again, I did not preread this. I don't I
Speaker 3: didn't know where this was all going. We're barely into
Speaker 3: this article and already I'm rolling my eyes. So Taylor
Speaker 3: Swift's album called The Life of a Showgirl. A former
Speaker 3: Las Vegas showgirl is suing Taylor Swift for trademark infringement. Okay, now,
Speaker 3: let's try to keep an open mind here. But this
Speaker 3: already sounds very, very frivolous. Let's see. The article continues.
Speaker 3: The attorneys labeled her lawsuit meritless and absurd and claimed
Speaker 3: it was an attempt to exploit Swift's fame for a
Speaker 3: marketing boost for her own brand. Okay, again, this sounds
Speaker 3: frivolous and, as Taylor Swift's attorneys said, meritless and absurd.
Speaker 3: Let's see where we end up. Maybe there's something in
Speaker 3: the article that can sway us. Marin Wade, whose legal
Speaker 3: name is Maren Flagg, filed her lawsuit in March in
Speaker 3: the United States District Court in California. She owns the
Speaker 3: trademark for Confessions of a show Girl, which she has
Speaker 3: owned since twenty fifteen and used since writing a column
Speaker 3: in Las Vegas Weekly in twenty four The brand has
Speaker 3: expanded into a podcast and a live cabaret show. Okay,
Speaker 3: so far, nothing here changes my opinion that this is
Speaker 3: a very frivolous lawsuit. It's not even the same thing.
Speaker 3: It's not even the same name. Swift's album The Life
Speaker 3: of a Showgirl, The Life of a Showgirl. Maren Wade's
Speaker 3: column is called Confessions of a Showgirl. Not the same thing.
Speaker 3: Life and Confessions not the same word. This is yeah,
Speaker 3: I mean, I think Taylor Swift's attorneys are right. This
Speaker 3: is this is a she is cloud chasing. This is
Speaker 3: clearly what she's doing. Okay. In her filing, Maren Flagg
Speaker 3: claimed that Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl infringed
Speaker 3: upon her trademark. So, by the way, okay, I don't
Speaker 3: mean to keep interrupting myself, but is the idea that
Speaker 3: anything with the word showgirl in it is infringement?
Speaker 15: Is that?
Speaker 3: Is that what Maren Flags whatever her name is, is
Speaker 3: that what her attorneys are contending. You just can't use
Speaker 3: the word showgirl on anything? What about the mo is?
Speaker 3: You know there's a movie Showgirl Is a Showgirl or Showgirls.
Speaker 3: I never saw it. It had the actress from Saved
Speaker 3: by the Bell. I never saw it. It looked horrible.
Speaker 3: Have they also been sued the producers of that film?
Speaker 3: I mean, come on, I mean I realized that movie
Speaker 3: was like what twenty years ago at least maybe more.
Speaker 3: But anyway, but again, it just speaks to the absurdity
Speaker 3: of this. Okay, so let me start this paragraph over. Sorry,
Speaker 3: I keep interrupting myself. In her filing, Flag claimed that
Speaker 3: Swift's The Life of a Showgirl infringed upon her trademark
Speaker 3: and created it just gets more absurd and created unfair
Speaker 3: competition for her own brand. Unfair competition for her own brand.
Speaker 3: So I mean, just think about that. So she's by
Speaker 3: the way, I would love to meet the lawyers who
Speaker 3: took this on on behalf of this woman. They should
Speaker 3: probably be dispartd How how is an album with the
Speaker 3: word showgirl in a competition for this woman writes a column.
Speaker 3: She writes a column for a Las Vegas newspaper called
Speaker 3: the Life of a Showgirl. I'm confused about where the
Speaker 3: competition is, Okay, it says here. The suit even cites
Speaker 3: that when Swift applied to register her trademark for the album,
Speaker 3: the US Patent and Trademark Office initially declined because it
Speaker 3: found it was too similar to Flag's existing trademark. That
Speaker 3: can't be true. That can't be true. Can that possibly
Speaker 3: be true? I don't believe that. I mean, it's in
Speaker 3: the court filing. So if I'm saying that can't be true,
Speaker 3: I guess I'm accusing her her almost Freudian slip. I
Speaker 3: almost at her liars, her lawyers, but I do mean liars.
Speaker 3: I'm accusing her her lawyers of lying in the filing
Speaker 3: because I just don't believe that. How can that possibly
Speaker 3: be true. All right, we go on. Flag asks for
Speaker 3: a preliminary injunction to immediately prevent Swift from further use
Speaker 3: of her showgirl brand. But Swift's team is known for
Speaker 3: being aggressively re litigious, and they wasted no time in
Speaker 3: clapping back with a filing of their own. I say
Speaker 3: good for them. They wrote, quote, this motion just like
Speaker 3: Marin Flagg's lawsuit, should never have been filed. It is
Speaker 3: simply miss Flag's attempt to use Taylor Swift's name and
Speaker 3: intellectual property to prop up her brand. Unquote, that's exactly
Speaker 3: what she's doing. According to their opposition, Swift's lawyers say
Speaker 3: that Flag actually used Swift's music and lyrics to promote
Speaker 3: her Confessions of a Showgirl stage show. They further threatened
Speaker 3: to pursue remedies for the commercial misuse of Swift's intellectual property.
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's uh. I think Maren Flagg really may
Speaker 3: have I mean, this is, you know, not only going
Speaker 3: to backfire. I mean, this is clearly this is backfiring.
Speaker 3: This is going to cause her more problems. And again,
Speaker 3: who are her attorneys? They they're clearly they have no
Speaker 3: idea what they're doing. Clearly, the filing also asserts that
Speaker 3: there is quote no chance of consumer confusion between the
Speaker 3: two brands. My point a few minutes ago, citing the
Speaker 3: legendary attention to detail of Swift's devoted fans and noting
Speaker 3: the vast difference between a small, intimate cabaret act and
Speaker 3: Swift's global stadium performances, that comparison is absurd. Her lawyers wrote,
Speaker 3: that's got a sting, that's got a sting. A little yeah,
Speaker 3: your stupid little cabaret show not quite the same as
Speaker 3: a Taylor Swift global stadium tour. So we think that
Speaker 3: people are gonna know the difference, just saying. The article continues,
Speaker 3: Swift's team also asks the judge to consider why Flag
Speaker 3: is asking for immediate relief on the basis of irreparable
Speaker 3: damage to her brand a whole eight months after the
Speaker 3: album was first announced. They argue that Flag in fact
Speaker 3: spent several of those months attempting to associate herself more
Speaker 3: closely with Swift's Showgirl branding in her own Ah says
Speaker 3: here again, this is the filing that Taylor Swift lawyer's did.
Speaker 3: The countersuit. There's a lot here. This is what's in there. Filing,
Speaker 3: some of it, not the whole filing. Obviously, since the
Speaker 3: album announcement, Plaintiff has reframed her brand around the album,
Speaker 3: flooding her social media accounts with posts attempting to align
Speaker 3: herself with Miss Swift and the album. Prior to the
Speaker 3: album announcement, Plaintiff had never used the life of a
Speaker 3: showgirl in her social media promotion. Following the announcement, Plaintiff
Speaker 3: used the phrase or posted generally about Miss Swift or
Speaker 3: the album over forty times on her branded Instagram and
Speaker 3: TikTok accounts. In fact, a mere four days after Miss
Speaker 3: Swift announced her album title into Artwork, in August twenty
Speaker 3: twenty five, Miss Flag announced a brand new podcast mimicking
Speaker 3: Miss Swift's album artwork, logo, title, and taglines, then playing
Speaker 3: to flooded her Instagram and TikTok pages with forty plus
Speaker 3: advertisements for her brand using Miss Swift's music, trademarks and
Speaker 3: other intellectual property without permission unquote hmm busted each of these,
Speaker 3: The brief claims constitutes actionable infringement and that thas rights
Speaker 3: management quote will be pursuing appropriate remedies for that unquote.
Speaker 3: So this woman, this idiot. Frankly, Maren Flagg, you know,
Speaker 3: in attempting to clout Chase ended up just causing a
Speaker 3: whole lot of problems for herself. One other quick story
Speaker 3: and then we've got we've got this week's world radio premiere,
Speaker 3: and of course we'll show some love to our amazing sponsor.
Speaker 3: And then coming up an hour number three today we
Speaker 3: have Viva los Villains, Loser loss, Viva los Villains. Although
Speaker 3: when people say Los Lobos, they always say loos. They
Speaker 3: don't say loss. But when we say Los Angeles, we
Speaker 3: say loss. We don't say los. I guess you can
Speaker 3: say either way. This is something I hate to see
Speaker 3: this again. This is also from Digital Music News. Eric
Speaker 3: Clapton ends Madrid show early after being struck by object
Speaker 3: from the crowd. I don't know why people do this,
Speaker 3: but this and look, Eric Clapton, there's some things about
Speaker 3: the guy that bother me quite frankly, but this should
Speaker 3: not ever happen, it says here. Eric Clapton didn't give
Speaker 3: fans in Madrid his usual encore after he was hit
Speaker 3: in the chest with an object from the crowd and
Speaker 3: left the stage afterward. Eric Clapton usually returns to the
Speaker 3: stage for an encore after playing his classic hit Cocaine,
Speaker 3: but that was not the case at his Madrid concert
Speaker 3: on May seven. Footage posted on social media shows that
Speaker 3: Clapton seemed to be hit in the chest with what
Speaker 3: appeared to be a vinyl record tossed from the crowd.
Speaker 3: As a result, he didn't come back out for an
Speaker 3: encore after finishing the song a vinyl record, So with
Speaker 3: somebody did somebody think if they threw the record at
Speaker 3: Clapton he would autograph it for them. That's the only
Speaker 3: logical thing I can think of why that would happen.
Speaker 3: Why else would that happen. It doesn't make sense. It's bizarre,
Speaker 3: and obviously it's not the right thing to do. And
Speaker 3: obviously whoever threw that record, if that was what their
Speaker 3: intention was, they did not get their autograph. Probably somebody
Speaker 3: drunk or on something. But it says here the moment
Speaker 3: happened just after he performed Cocaine, which is usually the
Speaker 3: point at which Clapton leaves the stage and then returns
Speaker 3: to play an encore, but after the incident he did
Speaker 3: not return to the stage. Reports suggests that the fan
Speaker 3: who threw the vinyl did not intend to cause any
Speaker 3: harm right, that probably my theory. Nor did it appear
Speaker 3: to cause injury to Clapton when the item made contact,
Speaker 3: and the record was even accompanied by a note of affection. However,
Speaker 3: even with the best of intentions, throwing an item on
Speaker 3: stage doesn't always have the desired effect, and that was
Speaker 3: certainly the case here. The former Cream guitarist reportedly became
Speaker 3: angry after the incident and chose not to return to
Speaker 3: the stage. The Stars he had to address the incident,
Speaker 3: but unfortunately, he's far from the first musician to be
Speaker 3: hit by an object thrown from the crowd. Hey, I
Speaker 3: was at a disturbed show once. This would have been
Speaker 3: oh my god. This was probably more than twenty years ago,
Speaker 3: where for some reason, it was at an outdoor show.
Speaker 3: It was at a festival, and for some reason people
Speaker 3: were throwing stuff in the crowd. I have no idea why.
Speaker 3: I mean, people throw things at Dave Draymond now for
Speaker 3: different reasons, but people were throwing stuff in this crowd.
Speaker 3: From this crowd, we're throwing stuff And Dave Draymond said, look,
Speaker 3: you know, that's not a compliment to us. He keep
Speaker 3: doing that, We're leaving. And it did stop but it
Speaker 3: says here. A surge of concert incidents between twenty twenty
Speaker 3: three and twenty twenty four saw a numerous artist hit
Speaker 3: by objects thrown from the audience, including Kelsey Ballerini and
Speaker 3: Harry Styles. Baby A Rexa required stitches after a fan
Speaker 3: through a self oh I remember this through a cell
Speaker 3: phone directly at her face while she was performing in
Speaker 3: New York, and Ava Max had a fan slap her
Speaker 3: in the face after rushing the stage in Los Angeles.
Speaker 3: Other artists who have had items thrown at them during
Speaker 3: performances in the last few years include Drake Pink and
Speaker 3: Steve Lacy. The eighty one year old Clapton and by
Speaker 3: the way, that is relevant his age. He's eighty one
Speaker 3: years old, so you know, if you throw something like
Speaker 3: a vinyl record, you know which is not it's not
Speaker 3: the same as you know, throwing a glass bottle or something.
Speaker 3: But still, I mean, at eighty one years old, a
Speaker 3: stiff wind might blow this guy over. You can't just
Speaker 3: be doing that. I mean, that's stating the obvious, be
Speaker 3: laboring the point, I suppose. But the eighty one year
Speaker 3: old Clapton is currently on his European tour which is
Speaker 3: set to resume in Barcelona on May tenth, before he
Speaker 3: makes his way to Germany for shows in Mannheim. Okay,
Speaker 3: it just goes on about a tour. Don't care about
Speaker 3: that part. That's the last paragraph anyway. But you know,
Speaker 3: if you throw things at someone while they're on stage,
Speaker 3: just be aware that you are a bad person and
Speaker 3: we all hate you for doing that, and please don't
Speaker 3: do that ever. All Right, we've got another world radio premiere.
Speaker 3: We did this at the top of the show today,
Speaker 3: but we're gonna do it again in the second hour
Speaker 3: if you missed it. We've got the brand new single
Speaker 3: from Nashville artist Dylan Jones, and he's going to be
Speaker 3: on with us. I'm trying trying to remember the date. Actually,
Speaker 3: let me look here. I've got this open. Dylan Jones
Speaker 3: is going to be on the show with us on
Speaker 3: stall Lean for time. Well, I look up the date
Speaker 3: that he is going to be on the show, so
Speaker 3: I make a little song about it. He's going to
Speaker 3: be on with us on August eighth. August eighth, Dylan
Speaker 3: Jones will be joining us on the show. He'll be
Speaker 3: probably via Microsoft Teams or WhatsApp from Nashville. But he's
Speaker 3: got a brand new single, and you heard it here first.
Speaker 3: This has not been played anywhere else on terrestrial radio,
Speaker 3: and we're gonna play it right now from Dylan Jones.
Speaker 3: This is called sound like Mine.
Speaker 4: Blacking white pictures disappeared with full in my time. It
Speaker 4: wasn't too long after the ha you been called that line,

Speaker 1: It's where those wild flowers room.

Speaker 1: It's where you could wait to live.
Speaker 3: And you won't get.
Speaker 12: Back to those small towns and drive cabs have dog
Speaker 12: dogs running around, the ones that don't have stop lights
Speaker 12: shining bright in. There's still some hoping ground, the ones
Speaker 12: that you can get out fishing or hunting in a time. Yeah,
Speaker 12: there's not a whole lot of them. You're getting hard
