Matt Connarton Unleashed 5-9-26 hour 3
Game Plan
Speaker 1: W m N H rips the normals.
Speaker 2: We're back from the brand Mannerson.
Speaker 3: About let you go.
Speaker 4: Tie like I s prop the sa I go out,
Speaker 4: so come on.
Speaker 5: What I'm home about?
Speaker 3: You don't black time do? Let you go down?
Speaker 5: Sun by the side, don't.
Speaker 6: Tell sis.
Speaker 3: Not so?
Speaker 7: Oh my god, I love that the track has lived fast.
Speaker 7: The band is Viva los Villains from the album Year
Speaker 7: of the Villain. And let's see who we have with
Speaker 7: us via WhatsApp. I think we have Jonathan Ordridge with us.
Speaker 8: Hello, Yeah, hi Matt, Yeah, you got Jonny hit and
Speaker 8: I'm joined by the other boys.
Speaker 7: Oh got all three of you. Yeah, Oh wonderful, wonderful. Okay,
Speaker 7: so we got Jonathan Ordridge, Tom Marfleet and Aaron Bailey.
Speaker 7: I'm really glad you guys could join us today. I
Speaker 7: love that song. I listen to the whole album Year
Speaker 7: of the Villain and it's so good. I love your sound.
Speaker 7: Who is so? Who's uh? Who's the guitar player?
Speaker 1: Well, Aaron does a lot of the lead guitar stuff.
Speaker 1: Tom does a lot of the rhythm stuff.
Speaker 7: Yeah, and then uh so okay, so Aaron does some
Speaker 7: Tom does rhythm and then Jonathan. What do you do.
Speaker 1: So either bass or rhythm.
Speaker 7: I got you, I got you? Okay? And who's singing?
Speaker 8: I sing on that one, Johnny, Yes, so, but Tom
Speaker 8: sings on quite a few as well.
Speaker 9: So.
Speaker 7: Gotcha, gotcha? Yeah, that's interesting and obviously, you know, for
Speaker 7: for a trio, you guys got a big sound. But
Speaker 7: it's also it's just so cool. I have not heard
Speaker 7: a lot of bands that have that kind of vibe
Speaker 7: recently that are that are you know, just doing stuff
Speaker 7: like that? And uh, I love the guitar solo at
Speaker 7: the end of that is it's fantastic. Thanks, thanks very much,
Speaker 7: solutely I love that.
Speaker 1: Yeah.
Speaker 10: Yeah, so the sound is really we love classic rock.
Speaker 10: We're all brought up on classic rock, you know, listening
Speaker 10: to our parents' records, and so that kind of big,
Speaker 10: meaty sound of the seventies and eighties is really something
Speaker 10: that we go for.
Speaker 7: Yeah, absolutely, is that something I know this isn't your
Speaker 7: first release. Is that something that you've kind of uh
Speaker 7: strove to sound like from the very beginning or has
Speaker 7: the sound change over changed over time?
Speaker 10: Our sound the first stuff that we put out was
Speaker 10: was a bit more poppy but pop orientated. But the sound,
Speaker 10: particularly when Aaron joined us because it was just me
Speaker 10: and Johnny as a duo originally, and then Aaron joined us,
Speaker 10: and the sound's got heavier and heavier since then.
Speaker 7: Yeah, so, uh well, let me get the obvious question
Speaker 7: out of the way. So where does the name come from?
Speaker 7: Viva Lost Villains or is it Viva Low's Villains or
Speaker 7: doesn't matter.
Speaker 10: So we were just sort of kicking about names. In fact,
Speaker 10: the band originally was called Actong. We we wanted something
Speaker 10: that was kind of really in your face, and then
Speaker 10: Johnny really fancied he wanted a band with the word
Speaker 10: villain in it. It was something that you were kind
Speaker 10: of really into, wasn't it. Yeah, and we just kind of, yeah,
Speaker 10: worked on the name for a number of weeks, and
Speaker 10: that's what we landed on.
Speaker 7: Yeah. No, I like that. Are people surprised, I mean,
Speaker 7: given given where you're from, uh to have a name
Speaker 7: like that? Well, actually, where are you, guys from? Exactly
Speaker 7: where where are you in the UK?
Speaker 1: So like southern England? Okay, we're about hours south of London, I.
Speaker 7: Suppose okay, okay, are there other bands in that area
Speaker 7: that sound anything like you, guys? Or I would imagine
Speaker 7: you really stand out.
Speaker 10: Yeah, I don't think as heavy as us. There's a
Speaker 10: we're lucky to be in quite a musical.
Speaker 1: Scene down here.
Speaker 10: Yeah, but certainly, you know, I think guitar bands have
Speaker 10: been out of for quite a long time, and not
Speaker 10: not that that matters much to us, but certainly I
Speaker 10: think our sound is pretty heavy for the scene, right right.
Speaker 7: Yeah, no doubt. I mean there's something I mean, forgive
Speaker 7: me for saying this, I don't know if this is
Speaker 7: okay to say or not, but there's something very like
Speaker 7: I would not know that you were not an American
Speaker 7: band if I didn't already know that, you know, just
Speaker 7: from listening to you, there's something very sort of American
Speaker 7: Southwestern about your sound, if that makes sense.
Speaker 11: Yeah, I think this kind of a bluesy kind of
Speaker 11: vibe behind it, which we've been sort of exploring a
Speaker 11: little bit. Yeah, somewhat covered up by the sort of
Speaker 11: the heavier rock sound, but I think it's still there,
Speaker 11: and sur elements of country as well. We've done some
Speaker 11: kind of I wouldn't say there were country tracks, but
Speaker 11: definitely some influences of country in there as well.
Speaker 1: So we're massive bands of.
Speaker 10: American music and yeah, again, It's another thing that's kind
Speaker 10: of fit the fed the sound.
Speaker 7: I suppose, yeah, no doubt, no doubt. Are you guys
Speaker 7: playing live a lot? Are you touring?
Speaker 1: Not a huge amount, to be honest with you.
Speaker 10: We're really focusing on on the studios stuff and kind
Speaker 10: of getting out good records. But then we've got plans
Speaker 10: for digging and touring coming up hopefully soon.
Speaker 7: Part of why I wonder it is I just I
Speaker 7: bet these songs sound incredible live. I can just I'm
Speaker 7: just kind of imagining it.
Speaker 1: Down pretty well, especially the heavy ones.
Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, no doubt, no doubt, And I love it. Okay,
Speaker 7: So tell me about the album artwork. And by the way,
Speaker 7: I would encourage anybody to go online and and take
Speaker 7: a look at the album artwork for this again, it's
Speaker 7: Viva Loos Villain's Year of the Villain. Did one of
Speaker 7: you guys do the artwork?
Speaker 2: Yeah?
Speaker 1: So we we we have.
Speaker 8: We we love the idea of this kind of smoking skull,
Speaker 8: and we use it a little bit on sort of
Speaker 8: artwork and stuff around us. And I think we quite
Speaker 8: like the mascot, like Eddie to Iron Maiden. I think
Speaker 8: this may be used in like future covers for us
Speaker 8: in the in the future.
Speaker 1: In various ways.
Speaker 8: Yeah, but yeah, we like you brought into the smoking
Speaker 8: skull character and can just see it being rolled out.
Speaker 10: Yeah, it's very much all the stuff we do, the music,
Speaker 10: the visuals. It's a team effort and we tend to
Speaker 10: just knock stuff backwards and forwards. Some have an idea,
Speaker 10: you know what, hows this for a for an album,
Speaker 10: an album cover or a single cover.
Speaker 1: I've got a great photo that I took.
Speaker 10: Maybe we could we could do something in that, So,
Speaker 10: you know, really a team effort and getting everything together.
Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, no, I really, I really like the artwork
Speaker 7: and I like the mascot idea. That makes sense. How
Speaker 7: long have you guys been around? I mean, it's it.
Speaker 7: It hasn't been too too long, right.
Speaker 10: No, well, so Johnny and I, Johnny and I have
Speaker 10: known each other for nearly twenty years.
Speaker 7: Oh wow.
Speaker 1: And Aaron's been part of our.
Speaker 10: Friendship group for a long time as well. But so
Speaker 10: Johnny and I wrote a lot of stuff, you know,
Speaker 10: way back in the day.
Speaker 12: And.
Speaker 10: But only in the last couple of years Kin I
Speaker 10: got together and and started doing stuff a bit more seriously.
Speaker 10: So we did have kind of a kind of back
Speaker 10: catalog of stuff we'd written over the years that really
Speaker 10: helped us kind of drive the early stuff. But you know,
Speaker 10: we meet up, you know, a few times a month
Speaker 10: generally writing and recording and rehearsing stuff.
Speaker 7: So yeah, no, that's great. And then what are your
Speaker 7: plans after this album? I mean, obviously, right now you're
Speaker 7: focused on promoting this, but I assume because it sounds
Speaker 7: like you've got a lot of things in the pipeline
Speaker 7: that you probably you know, a lot of music written
Speaker 7: that you haven't necessarily recorded yet. It sounds like you
Speaker 7: guys are always writing.
Speaker 10: We've got the label, so they Records would be really
Speaker 10: angry with us if we didn't mention it. We had
Speaker 10: a single out yesterday called The Devil in Me, which
Speaker 10: that came out literally yesterday, so our listeners are interested.
Speaker 10: They can look that up and they can find us
Speaker 10: on all popular streaming platforms.
Speaker 7: Oh, is that not on You're of the Villain?
Speaker 10: No, this is a standalone single that we released listerally yesterday.
Speaker 7: Oh, very interesting. Well, because we're going to play something
Speaker 7: obviously at the end of our conversation as well to
Speaker 7: bookend the segment, and maybe I will play that nice.
Speaker 7: Oh it looks like you have a video for it too, good.
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, so that was us.
Speaker 8: Yes, we filmed that down at a studio near us
Speaker 8: in Portsmouth.
Speaker 7: Oh outstanding. Yeah. Yeah, it's so important, you know, And
Speaker 7: it's funny in America. I don't know if you guys
Speaker 7: run into this over there at all, but there are
Speaker 7: some people in America who think. Usually it's people not
Speaker 7: active in the music industry in any way who are
Speaker 7: under this impression that because you know, MTV has gone
Speaker 7: away and and people think that there's no more music
Speaker 7: videos and they don't realize that actually, if you just
Speaker 7: go on YouTube, there's more music videos than ever. Everybody
Speaker 7: makes music videos now. It's really become such an essential
Speaker 7: thing in terms of promoting your music, especially when you
Speaker 7: have a new single and sharing that out on social
Speaker 7: media and all of that.
Speaker 10: Yeah, totally, And you know, I think the trend is
Speaker 10: actually people more people watching the music videos than streaming
Speaker 10: the music. You know, people want to they've got their
Speaker 10: phone in their hands and they're finding new music. It
Speaker 10: really helps to have a visual with it.
Speaker 7: Yeah, absolutely, Now what one another decision to release a
Speaker 7: single outside of that's not on the album. Is there
Speaker 7: is there any particular strategy about it or was it
Speaker 7: just something you guys felt like doing.
Speaker 1: We'll have to talk to the label about that.
Speaker 7: Interesting Damn.
Speaker 10: He runs the label, as I said, it's Soday Records,
Speaker 10: and he gives us a schedule. You know, he's very
Speaker 10: good to say. You know, he doesn't put too much
Speaker 10: pressure on us. He lets us release what we want,
Speaker 10: but he'll say, right, we're going to have something coming
Speaker 10: out on the eighth of May, and then the next
Speaker 10: month is on such and such a date.
Speaker 1: And we kind of worked towards that. Really, I think
Speaker 1: there was more an element that we were so excited
Speaker 1: about this particular track.
Speaker 11: Yeah, we've been very passionate about since we since we
Speaker 11: sort of created about six months ago.
Speaker 1: That we were just keen to get it out as
Speaker 1: soon as we could. Yeah, even just as a free
Speaker 1: standing single.
Speaker 7: No, that makes sense. That makes sense in terms of
Speaker 7: being on a label. Do you guys find it's uh?
Speaker 7: Is it easier? Does it kind of take that off
Speaker 7: of your plate? Because I know a lot of artists
Speaker 7: who don't want to be Like, some artists can't function
Speaker 7: on a label because they they have to be in
Speaker 7: control of every little thing. I talked to a lot
Speaker 7: of guests on the show who it's like they're they're
Speaker 7: so dialed into every little aspect of what they do
Speaker 7: that the idea of being on a label, you know,
Speaker 7: unless it was a major label that offered them a
Speaker 7: million dollar advance or something, which doesn't even happen anymore,
Speaker 7: but the idea of being on a label is so
Speaker 7: anathema to how they operate. But it sounds like for
Speaker 7: you guys, it's working really well.
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd say it.
Speaker 12: So.
Speaker 10: I think it's really nice for us to be able
Speaker 10: to focus on on the music and sounds very good
Speaker 10: kind of holding our hand and particularly on the promotional
Speaker 10: side of stuff, just kind of leading us in the
Speaker 10: right direction. I think being an artist these days, you
Speaker 10: have to be everything you have to, you know, be
Speaker 10: able to play the music, write the music, record the music,
Speaker 10: produce the music, produce content for the music, and it's
Speaker 10: it's a lot to kind of to handle. So for us,
Speaker 10: it's to have Sam holding our hand on certain aspects
Speaker 10: of it, and I think we have a lot of
Speaker 10: autonomy as well in terms of being able to produce
Speaker 10: the kind of music that we want to make yeah
Speaker 10: for sure.
Speaker 7: Yeah, So he's obviously not trying to micromanage what your
Speaker 7: output is, just more what happens to it when it's
Speaker 7: out right.
Speaker 10: And like we come from a really a DIY music background.
Speaker 10: You know, we are doing you know, pretty much everything ourselves,
Speaker 10: which you know a lot of people are doing these days,
Speaker 10: and Sam just kind of gives us the freedom to
Speaker 10: be able to do that. I mean, he's never once
Speaker 10: said I'm not releasing that.
Speaker 7: That's excellent. That's excellent. By the way. So for the
Speaker 7: for the album You're of the Villain, I'm curious, is it, uh,
Speaker 7: you have physical Do you have physical copies of it
Speaker 7: as well?
Speaker 10: At the moment though, just just just just the digital
Speaker 10: you know, it's it's it's one of it's. It's a
Speaker 10: difficult one because you know the cost of getting getting
Speaker 10: vinyl or CDs.
Speaker 1: Out there is is pretty high. You know, it can
Speaker 1: be a high risk strategy for.
Speaker 12: Sorry, it's a pretty.
Speaker 1: High risk strategy for kind of investment. Investment wise.
Speaker 10: We're kind of happy building our you know, our following
Speaker 10: and presence online, but definitely be interested in doing some
Speaker 10: some physical releases in the future.
Speaker 7: It would be wonderful to see that. You guys have
Speaker 7: probably thought of this too. It would be wonderful to
Speaker 7: see that artwork which I just love so much from
Speaker 7: your the Villain on a on a big vinyl record,
Speaker 7: you know what I mean. But but it is very
Speaker 7: expensive to do that, absolutely absolutely great. Well, so what
Speaker 7: should people know about where to find you guys online
Speaker 7: for people who want to keep up with everything that
Speaker 7: you're doing with all things Viva Los Villains.
Speaker 10: Yeah, so we're pretty busy on Instagram and on Facebook,
Speaker 10: Sam and the rec Word label produce pushing it on
Speaker 10: TikTok YouTube, So yeah, most of the social media channels.
Speaker 10: If you search for viv Villains on Google, you'll probably
Speaker 10: find us.
Speaker 7: Yeah, you're very googleable, certainly a word that I like
Speaker 7: to use, which is extremely important in the times that
Speaker 7: we live in. So very easy to find you. So
Speaker 7: I love it. I love the album again. I encourage
Speaker 7: everybody please go check out the album Viva Lost Villains
Speaker 7: Year of the Villain, and we are about to play
Speaker 7: the new single Devil and Me. We'll give that a
Speaker 7: spin as soon as we wrap up with you guys.
Speaker 7: Anything else we should know about this track Devil and Me?
Speaker 7: Is it kind of the same. I mean, we'll hear
Speaker 7: it in a moment. But is it kind of the
Speaker 7: same vibe as the album or is this truly a
Speaker 7: separate piece.
Speaker 1: Yes, so it is a separate piece. But I think
Speaker 1: it's you know, it's pretty slightly more.
Speaker 8: I think it would fit a dance floor more than
Speaker 8: the album would.
Speaker 7: Interesting.
Speaker 8: Yeah, it's it's a bit more funky, but it's still rocking,
Speaker 8: still catchy.
Speaker 1: We were writing. We wrote it back in November.
Speaker 10: We had a kind of band away weekend writing weekend,
Speaker 10: and we started writing.
Speaker 1: Someone came up with the chords and.
Speaker 10: Then someone said, do you know what this will sound
Speaker 10: amazing with a disco kind of on the floor beat
Speaker 10: on it, and we put it on there we all.
Speaker 1: Just went, yeah, that's it. That's fantastic. So yeah, it's
Speaker 1: it's it's.
Speaker 10: Kind of upbeat but still heavy and yeah, I hope
Speaker 10: you and your listeners like him.
Speaker 12: That.
Speaker 7: Oh very cool. I cannot wait to listen to this. Okay, So,
Speaker 7: by the way, has this been played anywhere on the radio?
Speaker 1: No?
Speaker 10: Literally, come out literally yesterday, so I'd be surprised.
Speaker 1: I think I think it's exclusive.
Speaker 7: So this is a world we love the world radio
Speaker 7: premieres here so I get to use the world premiere bumper,
Speaker 7: so that's great. I love it. I love it well, guys,
Speaker 7: thank you all three of you for joining us here today, Johnny,
Speaker 7: Tom and Aaron. Wonderful to speak with you. We'll definitely
Speaker 7: do it again in the future, especially as you're releasing
Speaker 7: new music, because it sounds like you've got a lot
Speaker 7: of stuff coming up. So but like I said, I
Speaker 7: love the album. I encourage everyone to check it out.
Speaker 7: So we will let you, guys go and we will
Speaker 7: hit this track, brand new Devil in Me, and guys,
Speaker 7: thank you again so much. You got it, Take care, bye, bye, cheers.
Speaker 7: All right, that is the guys from Viva Los Villains
Speaker 7: and right now this is spontaneous, but we're gonna do
Speaker 7: the world radio premiere of the brand new single from
Speaker 7: Viva Los Villains, Devil in Me.
Speaker 2: You are listening to t wuminh.
Speaker 5: World premiere.
Speaker 13: One day, Swells swats Up twice, wish return Me Lad
Speaker 13: may Day, which you tell me what came first selling
Speaker 13: or so I'm trying to tell.
Speaker 6: With me, I just send me a fool the.
Speaker 14: Execution pas to tell with me. Co trud can't control
Speaker 14: that Sap the Control made night Side just as out
Speaker 14: si Quiens spell my night to sleep it out of
Speaker 14: his name. Come, it's cold, the is, it's old swam,
Speaker 14: It's out.
Speaker 5: Trot from Can't Control, trot from Control.
Speaker 7: Oh, I love it, I love it. That is the
Speaker 7: world radio premiere of the brand new single just came
Speaker 7: out yesterday on streaming platforms. That is the first time
Speaker 7: you have ever heard that on the radio, The Devil
Speaker 7: in Me brand new from Vivlos Villains and I really
Speaker 7: like those guys a lot. And we have we have
Speaker 7: a surprise guest here. We've got Alex from the Cherry
Speaker 7: fogg Is here on the phone with us. Alex, are
Speaker 7: you there?
Speaker 1: I'm here.
Speaker 7: How are you?
Speaker 9: Man?
Speaker 7: What's up? What's going on?
Speaker 9: Not much? I wanted to say hello, see how things
Speaker 9: were going. I'm looking forward to a show with Stepsis
Speaker 9: coming up. That's gonna be Darrevin Taunton.
Speaker 7: Oh very good. When when is that?
Speaker 9: It's a Platinum City Gaming. Let me pull up the
Speaker 9: date for you right now?
Speaker 7: Yeah.
Speaker 9: Yeah, but it's going to be a real barn burner
Speaker 9: backed by Loud Entertainment, and we're really looking forward to
Speaker 9: the show.
Speaker 7: Yeah, I love them. Loud Entertainment's great. I really like
Speaker 7: those guys Rich and of course uh Baboo is that
Speaker 7: he's a character.
Speaker 15: Yeah.
Speaker 9: The show actually is on May twenty third. It's gonna
Speaker 9: be a Platinum City gaming down in Taunton.
Speaker 7: Oh, very good.
Speaker 11: Yeah.
Speaker 9: But I also have something for tonight, if anybody's available tonight.
Speaker 9: I have another band called Wicked Dark Shark and we're
Speaker 9: gonna be celebrating an album release party tonight in of
Speaker 9: all places of Lawrence. Yeah. I don't know if you've
Speaker 9: heard of this venue before. Man, it's called like Rap
Speaker 9: Skill in music Hall.
Speaker 5: I have not.
Speaker 7: Is that a new place? I have not heard of that.
Speaker 9: I think it's relatively new. Yeah, but it's a free show.
Speaker 9: It's going to be an album release party. We're gonna
Speaker 9: be rocking out music by Frank Morey as well. He's
Speaker 9: a Cambridge guy. But yeah, feel free to come by tonight.
Speaker 9: That starts at six. It's gonna be going till eleven.
Speaker 9: Gonna be a great show.
Speaker 7: Very good, very good. And how how's the band? What's
Speaker 7: the cherry Fog been up to?
Speaker 9: The Cherry Fog has been up to We've been doing
Speaker 9: a lot of duo stuff. So we've been kind of
Speaker 9: rocking out black keystyle, having just Peter on guitar and
Speaker 9: myself on drums, and people have been liking it. We've
Speaker 9: had our bass player had to relocate to Texas to
Speaker 9: be a professor teaching philosophy, so we've had to go
Speaker 9: at it on our own and we've actually really enjoyed it.
Speaker 9: So obviously he's involved in creative endeavors and obviously helped
Speaker 9: with the record and stuff. We've been just kind of
Speaker 9: taking to act as a duo as of late.
Speaker 7: Oh okay, it sounds like it's working out well.
Speaker 9: You know, you're keeping busy, definitely, Yeah, keeping busy, and
Speaker 9: we have a couple of other shows coming up. But yeah,
Speaker 9: the place tonight is called rap Scalm Music Hall. But man,
Speaker 9: those guys at Texas are so cool. You see that
Speaker 9: award they just won.
Speaker 7: It's hard to it's hard to keep up with it
Speaker 7: because they seem to win a lot of stuff. What's
Speaker 7: the one that they just what's the award that they
Speaker 7: just won.
Speaker 9: It was something about like New England's Society of Music
Speaker 9: or something, but they were like number one band in
Speaker 9: New England. I think I have it from Loud sent
Speaker 9: it over to me.
Speaker 7: Okay, but let me just see here.
Speaker 9: Yeah, it was a New England Music Awards winner Band
Speaker 9: of the Year.
Speaker 7: Oh okay, oh very good. Good. I think they've I
Speaker 7: know they've won at least two others over the years.
Speaker 7: Uh so, oh that's excellent. Good for them. Yeah, no,
Speaker 7: we have. We have a great time with them. Always
Speaker 7: look forward to a Swarmy Fest, which is gonna be
Speaker 7: I thinks a little early this year. I think it's
Speaker 7: gonna be in September. That's always a really good time.
Speaker 7: So yeah, Jenny and I are both really big fans
Speaker 7: of Sepsis. We like them a lot, and they you know,
Speaker 7: they've been really really good to us. And William always
Speaker 7: has a lot to say whenever they come on the show.
Speaker 9: That's why he has his own show. It's so entertaining.
Speaker 7: Oh that's true. Yeah. The podcast, Yeah that that gets
Speaker 7: confusing too, because they've had more than one podcast over
Speaker 7: the year. But I think is he still doing will
Speaker 7: is it William versus the World?
Speaker 9: I haven't seen that one.
Speaker 7: Okay, I might be wrong on the title. I thought
Speaker 7: it was something like that, but but yeah, yeah, no,
Speaker 7: we we we like Sepsis a lot not everyone does.
Speaker 7: They're a little controversial in a way. I'm not exactly
Speaker 7: sure why. You know, there's some people in the scene
Speaker 7: who look down on them a little bit or whatever.
Speaker 7: But no, Jenny and I have always had a good
Speaker 7: experience with that band, and we you know, we've done
Speaker 7: Swarmy Fest because Matt Connorton Unleashed. We're one of the
Speaker 7: sponsors of that show, and we've done that for I
Speaker 7: think this will be our fourth year, maybe fourth or fifth,
Speaker 7: at least fourth. Yeah, yeah, So no, it was.
Speaker 9: Cool because Cherry Fog was kind of like an outlier
Speaker 9: at that show in a way, like a lot of
Speaker 9: the other bands were really heavy like rock and metal,
Speaker 9: maybe a little bit thrashy. But it was cool because
Speaker 9: we were able to bring that vintage kind of feel
Speaker 9: to the show and everybody seemed to appreciate it. It
Speaker 9: was like a sort of like a motif of like
Speaker 9: heavy metal and then like it was us like vintage
Speaker 9: hard rock. So it was a cool like twist of
Speaker 9: the show.
Speaker 7: I thought it was. I thought you guys fit in
Speaker 7: great though. I mean, yeah, you know, it was a
Speaker 7: little different, but but it still worked, you know. I mean,
Speaker 7: but you know, loud guitars, you know, always work like time.
Speaker 9: But yeah, you guys were up in bass, loud drums.
Speaker 9: You know, I play very lightly as you know.
Speaker 7: No, it was no, it was excellent. Yeah, you guys
Speaker 7: were amazing.

Speaker 9: No, no explayers on that one.
Speaker 7: Awesome. It is FCC for Yeah. Has this been played
Speaker 7: anywhere on the radio?
Speaker 9: Nothing I'm aware of. I know it was kind of
Speaker 9: circling a little bit on like Reddit playlists here and there,
Speaker 9: kind of underground stuff. But I think this might be
Speaker 9: the debut of Lookout Below on the radio.
Speaker 7: I'm sure with I'm sure, as you know, we do
Speaker 7: love to do the world radio premieres here on the program,
Speaker 7: so I can give this the world radio premiere treatment,

Speaker 9: Music Off for the Wicked Dark Shark record release party.

Speaker 9: May Stepsis Down and Totton at Platinum City Gaming. I'm
Speaker 9: going to be a hell of a show, going to
Speaker 9: be some serious people watching and some loud music.
Speaker 7: Very good, very good. All right, Alex from the Cherry Fog,
Speaker 7: thank you so much for calling us today. Man, this
Speaker 7: was a cool surprise and we'll wait. We'll talk to

Speaker 7: Bye, all right, man, take care, all right, wonderful. Well
Speaker 7: this is cool, so let's do it. Here we go.

Speaker 6: I'm telling me that it's so.
Speaker 3: Vers on me.
Speaker 2: Yesterday I saw st gas. Can't be getting you hold
Speaker 2: the candle when I get out from moon. Yeah, I

Speaker 7: a good sound. That is called Lookout below the world

Speaker 7: thank you again to Alex for calling in. That was
Speaker 7: a fun surprise. Good to talk to him. And yeah,
Speaker 7: I love that band, like I said Jenny, and I
Speaker 7: saw them for the first time at Swarmfest last year
Speaker 7: and they're incredible live. If you get a chance to
Speaker 7: see them live, you must, you know. And Alex had
Speaker 7: mentioned a couple of shows, one of them is coming
Speaker 7: up tonight in Lawrence. So but such a good band.
Speaker 7: I love that song. That is so good. Look Out
Speaker 7: below the new single from the Cherry Fog. And as

Speaker 7: talked about on the show last week, Busta Rhymes getting
Speaker 7: sued by his former assistant because apparently Buster Rhymes violently
Speaker 7: assaulted his former assistant and you know, because his dinner
Speaker 7: was late or something. You just can't do that. But
Speaker 7: even if you're a bust To Rhymes, So lots of
Speaker 7: stuff there Matt connortonuleash dot com. There will be a
Speaker 7: lot more to come in of course, is my website

Speaker 7: So it's been an exciting shows so far. We do
Speaker 7: have a little bit to go. If you are listening
Speaker 7: live on Saturday, a little bit more music News. Now
Speaker 7: I just learned something, and as someone who's worked in
Speaker 7: the music industry for a long time, I'm a little
Speaker 7: embarrassed that I did not know this term. But there
Speaker 7: is a term in the touring industry called blue dot fever.
Speaker 7: This is from musiclly dot com. Again. This is another
Speaker 7: one of these websites that I really like as far
Speaker 7: as getting access to music industry news, and of course
Speaker 7: it's very handy doing a show like this. Actually, let's
Speaker 7: start with the first. This two articles about this, so
Speaker 7: blue dot fever. I did not know that this is
Speaker 7: a thing, or I knew that it was a thing.
Speaker 7: I guess I didn't know that it had a name. Again,
Speaker 7: this is from music Ally. So this is the first
Speaker 7: story that just went up a couple days ago, Ticketmaster
Speaker 7: Live Nation and the quietly canceled tours catching blue dot fever. Oh,
Speaker 7: actually hanging on on.
Speaker 15: Uh.
Speaker 7: This website wants me to sign up for a free account,
Speaker 7: which is fine, except I'm trying to do this in
Speaker 7: real time. All right, Let's let's read the newest story
Speaker 7: because this will update us. So here's what blue dot
Speaker 7: fever is. So it says here Thursday. Again. This is
Speaker 7: from music ally dot com. It says, Actually, yesterday we
Speaker 7: wrote about the blue dot fever phase or phrase that's
Speaker 7: been prominent in music trade media this week, following a
Speaker 7: spate of big tours being canceled or delayed amid rumors
Speaker 7: of poor sales as the and by the way, you
Speaker 7: know the inflation that is really gripping the economy, affordability
Speaker 7: issues and so forth. They absolutely affect the touring industry,
Speaker 7: no doubt about it, and touring itself has become increasingly
Speaker 7: cost prohibitive in the last few years, it says here.
Speaker 7: As the company involved in many of those tours, Live
Speaker 7: Nation has now responded to speculation that blue dot fever
Speaker 7: is a worrying trend for twenty twenty six, and as
Speaker 7: you may have guessed, it has an alternative view. Quote.
Speaker 7: Of all the shows Live Nation has on the books
Speaker 7: this year, less than one percent have been canceled. That's
Speaker 7: not blue dot fever. It's a normal touring year, unquote,
Speaker 7: said Live Nation's a spokesperson to Music Ally told Music
Speaker 7: Ally quote. In fact, twenty twenty six is shaping up
Speaker 7: to be a record with concert sales up eleven percent
Speaker 7: for the year unquote. That surprises me. Especially with the
Speaker 7: price of tickets. These are figures for all the shows
Speaker 7: Live Nation is putting on, rather than just the bigger
Speaker 7: arena and stadium shows that are the focus of the
Speaker 7: blue dot fever talk. So I guess, and again I'm
Speaker 7: just learning the serm. I guess when you talk about
Speaker 7: blue dot fever, that tends to apply more to the
Speaker 7: big tours, arena and stadium tours, and Live Nation is
Speaker 7: kind of lumping in. You know, you've got theaters, you've
Speaker 7: got smaller venues, and Live Nation of course controls. I mean,
Speaker 7: it is a monopoly, let's call it what it is.
Speaker 7: And they control and Live Nation and Ticketmaster are the
Speaker 7: same thing. For people who don't know, Ticketmaster is a
Speaker 7: subsidiary of Live Nation. Live Nation controls most the vast
Speaker 7: majority of the national artist touring industry in this country.
Speaker 7: But so they're putting some spin on it. They're saying, well,
Speaker 7: there's no blue dot fever. Look where ticket sales are
Speaker 7: up eleven percent for us. But again that's including everything,
Speaker 7: not just the big arena and stadium tours, which is
Speaker 7: where the blue dot fever talk comes into play apparently,
Speaker 7: So it says you're going back to the article. Even so,
Speaker 7: the stats open a new speculation path. A lot of
Speaker 7: big artists are out on tour this year, and a
Speaker 7: lot of them are clearly doing good box office business.
Speaker 7: But this is a highly competitive environment. So the trend
Speaker 7: may be that when a promoter gets it wrong, where
Speaker 7: the venue size and or ticket prices don't match the
Speaker 7: true demand for that artist, it can be really wrong
Speaker 7: and obvious very quickly. So the debate is not our
Speaker 7: big concerts in trouble, but perhaps it's more about why
Speaker 7: specific tours have overshot so brutally and whether external factors
Speaker 7: costs in particular, are making the subsequent downgrades, delays, and
Speaker 7: cancellations swifter than in the past. So there you go. So,
Speaker 7: you know, I learned something new. Like I said, I
Speaker 7: was not aware of this blue dot fever phenomenon or
Speaker 7: that that was a term, but apparently it is. And
Speaker 7: you know, and again like I said, when there's difficulty
Speaker 7: in the economy in this case, you know, we talk
Speaker 7: about affordability and inflation and all that, it does very
Speaker 7: much affect the concert business. What's the first thing that
Speaker 7: you have to cut back on is entertainment. Right when
Speaker 7: you're when you're having difficulty, you know, I mean, if
Speaker 7: if you've got to choose between you know, grocery or
Speaker 7: buying a ticket to see a concert, and these tickets
Speaker 7: are so incredibly expensive, you know, you gotta spend your
Speaker 7: money at the grocery store. Right, So either way, one
Speaker 7: other thing I saw that I wanted to look at.
Speaker 7: Oh yeah, since we're talking about Ticketmaster. Apparently Ticketmaster boy.
Speaker 7: We talked about Ticketmaster a lot on the show. This
Speaker 7: is from Digital Musicnews dot com. Major cuts at Ticketmaster.
Speaker 7: The company has cut three hundred and fifty jobs. As
Speaker 7: Live Nation divestor dangles. Let's see what this is about.
Speaker 7: It says here Ticketmaster cut eight percent of its global staff,
Speaker 7: are around three hundred and fifty employees in its on
Speaker 7: in its engineering, product and design divisions. The company also
Speaker 7: cut contractors. By the way, I wonder if some of
Speaker 7: this is the result of AI, you know, just aibby
Speaker 7: being able to do certain tasks that you don't necessarily
Speaker 7: need humans to do, and a company like Ticketmaster, because
Speaker 7: any company that I mean, I don't know if you
Speaker 7: would use the term tech company to describe Ticketmaster. Necessarily
Speaker 7: it's a ticketing platform, but it's a ticketing platform on
Speaker 7: the Internet. They do depend heavily on probably a lot
Speaker 7: of things, a lot of tasks that you can train
Speaker 7: AI models to do. Again, this is from Digital Music News.
Speaker 7: It says Ticketmaster has cut eight percent of its global
Speaker 7: staff this week. According to a new report from Pollstar.
Speaker 7: The cut effects approximately three hundred and fifty employees across
Speaker 7: twenty five countries, primarily in its engineering, product and design divisions,
Speaker 7: as well as reducing its contractors. Notably, the company's executive
Speaker 7: leadership team has not changed. Samil Meta, Ticketmaster Global president,
Speaker 7: who joined the company last October, said, quote, the purpose
Speaker 7: of these cuts is stronger prioritization, especially in engineering, product
Speaker 7: and design unquote.
Speaker 12: Oh.
Speaker 7: He also said, quote that comes with flattening layers, consolidating ownership,
Speaker 7: changing how teams are structured, and ensuring that we put
Speaker 7: more energy behind specific initiatives. We're going to keep investing
Speaker 7: in specific areas so that we can actually achieve the
Speaker 7: vision we laid out unquote. Meta presented his vision for
Speaker 7: Ticketmaster's future on April fifteen during a keynote address at
Speaker 7: the Pollstar Live conference. There, he explained the importance of
Speaker 7: Ticketmaster meeting fans where they are and optimizing the checkout
Speaker 7: process via new technologies like AI. And there it is,
Speaker 7: there it is, he said during his presentation. Quote what
Speaker 7: I learned over the last ten years, which I'm trying
Speaker 7: to apply to Ticketmaster, is how to engage with commerce
Speaker 7: at scale, how to move billions, tens of billions, hundreds
Speaker 7: of billions all over the world between buyers and sellers,
Speaker 7: how to fight bad actors fraud, and most importantly, how
Speaker 7: to take a technology first approach to problem solving, especially
Speaker 7: in the age of AI. Unquote. Meta was formerly the
Speaker 7: chief product Officer and head of Business org at Square,
Speaker 7: whose holdings include the likes of Title, Cash, app after pay,
Speaker 7: bit Key, and Spiral. So as you can see from
Speaker 7: his background, you know this is a guy who's thinking
Speaker 7: about this stuff, right, he said. Quote to me, the
Speaker 7: strong performance reflects the past, and this is about what
Speaker 7: we are doing to set ourselves up for the earnings
Speaker 7: report twelve months from now, eighteen months from now, twenty
Speaker 7: four months from now. I'm thinking. The thinking is, let's
Speaker 7: do this so we are well positioned for two years
Speaker 7: down the road, one year down the road, or eighteen
Speaker 7: months down the road. So there you go. There you
Speaker 7: have it. I think we should play so earlier. Well
Speaker 7: by earlier, I mean during the first hour we talked
Speaker 7: to Johnny Collins from the band Modesty Blaze, who have
Speaker 7: such an interesting sound. I think we should play another
Speaker 7: one of their songs, and then we'll come back and
Speaker 7: we'll begin to wrap things up this week on the show.
Speaker 7: But again, you know, they released re released Melancholia. It's
Speaker 7: the twenty fifth anniversary of that album, completely remastered, and
Speaker 7: we talked a lot. If you missed it during the
Speaker 7: first hour, you'll want to check it out on the podcast,
Speaker 7: which will be available within the hour after we get
Speaker 7: off the air today. But really really enjoyed talking with
Speaker 7: Johnny Collins and talking about how, you know, the whole
Speaker 7: process of remastering this album. But let's give this a spin.
Speaker 7: This is another great track from the remaster of Melancholia,
Speaker 7: the twenty fifth anniversary edition. This is called I'm Going Dancing.
Speaker 7: We're gonna give this a spin and then we'll come
Speaker 7: back and we'll start to wrap things up on the
Speaker 7: other side. I'm going Dancing, Modesty Blaze, I'm.
Speaker 3: Going when you singing.
Speaker 16: Spots conta, but I.
Speaker 15: Do I thought.
Speaker 18: My back starting your star, my thought.
Speaker 3: Going up.
Speaker 7: That is I'm going out from Odyssey Blaze. Hope there's more.
Speaker 7: It's the Matt Connorton Unleashed remix.
Speaker 9: There we go.
Speaker 7: Thank you again to Johnny Collins for joining us in
Speaker 7: the first hour to talk about the twenty fifth anniversary
Speaker 7: remaster of Melancholia that features that song. Really enjoyed talking
Speaker 7: with him. Hey, really quick, because we spent some time
Speaker 7: last week on the show talking about the Buster Rhymes thing,
Speaker 7: and I referenced it earlier. So Buster Rhymes, I have
Speaker 7: some more details about that that I want to just
Speaker 7: hit before we run out of time on today's show.
Speaker 7: This is from USA Herold. It says Busser Rhymes folds
Speaker 7: aging rapper quietly settles lawsuit I'm sorry, settles assault and
Speaker 7: workplaces abuse case before jury could deliver verdict. So when
Speaker 7: we last left off, we were talking on the show
Speaker 7: last week about Buster Rhymes. His former assistant was suing
Speaker 7: him for assault and battery because Buster Rhymes again, apparently
Speaker 7: if you you are working for him as a personal
Speaker 7: assistant and you upset him, he might punch you in
Speaker 7: the face. You better make sure that he gets his
Speaker 7: dinner on time and things like that. So difficult to
Speaker 7: work for a lot of famous people tend to be.
Speaker 7: But apparently there was a violent assault involved, and so
Speaker 7: we talked about that last week on the show. So
Speaker 7: it has been settled and that's it. That's the end
Speaker 7: of that. But this article does have some details that
Speaker 7: were missing from the other article that we were looking at,
Speaker 7: because the other article was focused mainly on what was
Speaker 7: happening in court on their way to settling. But this
Speaker 7: not only updates that the settlement is final and everybody
Speaker 7: can move on, but just some interesting details about exactly
Speaker 7: what happened here. So again this is from USA Harold.
Speaker 7: It was a confrontation that started with a text message,
Speaker 7: so rewind to January twenty twenty five. Gables that was
Speaker 7: his name, Dash Gables, the assistant. Gables is unloading luggage
Speaker 7: at Busta's luxury Brooklyn high rise when his daughter calls
Speaker 7: his phone. He doesn't answer, he texts her back, a
Speaker 7: simple human moment between a father and his child. According
Speaker 7: to Gables, that text cost him his face. He alleged
Speaker 7: bus stuff flew into a rage and punched him multiple
Speaker 7: times in the lobby of the upscale building. Gables was hospitalized.
Speaker 7: He filed a police report. Prosecutors, however, declined to bring
Speaker 7: criminal charges, leaving Gables with one path to accountability civil court.
Speaker 7: Why obvious question, But why did prosecutors decline to bring
Speaker 7: criminal charges? What's going on there?
Speaker 1: You know?
Speaker 7: Did bust Or Rhymes pay them? I mean, you know,
Speaker 7: are they just big Buster Rhymes fans? You know what
Speaker 7: is going on there?
Speaker 2: Why?
Speaker 7: Why would prosecutors not bring charges? That's bizarre. So because
Speaker 7: they didn't bring charges, Gables had to sue. So, getting
Speaker 7: back to the article from us A Herald, when he
Speaker 7: filed suit in August of twenty twenty five, the allegations exploded.
Speaker 7: Beyond the punches. Gables painted a portrait of systematic workplace abuse,
Speaker 7: a hostile environment where he claimed Buster forced him to
Speaker 7: unclog a toilet with his bare hand and later retaliated
Speaker 7: against him for going to police, allegedly using his industry
Speaker 7: influence to blacklist Gables from future work. The price tag
Speaker 7: on that destruction at least six million dollars in damages
Speaker 7: sought for assault, wage violations and career annihilation. By the way,
Speaker 7: so for anyone who thinks, wait, he made him unclog
Speaker 7: a toilet with his bare hands. That's just inhumane. Yeah,
Speaker 7: but think about it, that's what happens. This is not
Speaker 7: unusual to hear stories about people who become very famous
Speaker 7: and very wealthy who also, for some reason or maybe
Speaker 7: it was always in them, but for some reason, also
Speaker 7: are very cruel and they have this power thing. So,
Speaker 7: I mean, anybody who watched the Diddy documentary series knows,
Speaker 7: and Jenny and I Binge watched that. We were just
Speaker 7: captivated by it. But you know, this is just something
Speaker 7: that happens to some people. They become rich and famous
Speaker 7: and powerful and then they decide to also be evil
Speaker 7: on top of it all. It's not you know, so
Speaker 7: on one hand, it's shocking that Busta Rhymes would make
Speaker 7: his assistant do that, But at the same time, it's like, hmm,
Speaker 7: but actually it's not that shocking because that's just something
Speaker 7: A rich, wealthy person who's probably so rich and i'm
Speaker 7: sorry rich wealthy, I mean rich and famous, rich and wealthy,
Speaker 7: that's redundant. A rich and famous person who's probably so
Speaker 7: rich and so famous, they've also probably become severely mentally
Speaker 7: ill in some way. You know, that's something that a wealthy, famous,
Speaker 7: mentally ill person would do is make their just for
Speaker 7: the hell of it, make their assistant unclock toilet with
Speaker 7: their bare hands, just saying. I mean it's something, it's
Speaker 7: it's I really do think that's part of the human condition. Obviously,
Speaker 7: not everyone who is wealthy and famous is a psychopath
Speaker 7: becomes a psychopath, or maybe they already were, but there
Speaker 7: now the their wealth and their fame enables them to
Speaker 7: really activate their their worst impulses. But you know, but
Speaker 7: but again, see something like that. It's shocking, but it's
Speaker 7: not shocking at the same time. Uh, the entertainment industry
Speaker 7: is replete with stories like that anyway. So it says
Speaker 7: here Busta came out swinging then settled again. This is
Speaker 7: from USA Herald Buster Rhymes didn't take it lying down.
Speaker 7: His legal team fired back with everything they had, calling
Speaker 7: the lawsuit a calculated, attempted shakedown by a disgruntled former
Speaker 7: employee who fabricated the entire story for a payday. Bust
Speaker 7: A countersuit for defamation. That's always the move, by the way,
Speaker 7: countersuit for defamation, that's always the move. Bust A countersuit
Speaker 7: for defamation, claiming gables public allegations cost him two major
Speaker 7: advertising contracts and torched his reputation. For a moment, it
Speaker 7: looked like this was headed toward a dramatic courtroom showdown,
Speaker 7: but it was not. By January twenty twenty six, both
Speaker 7: sides agreed to pause proceedings and enter mediation. Eighteen months
Speaker 7: of legal combat, police reports, countersuits, public allegations, and reputation
Speaker 7: warfare collapsed into a private agreement that neither side will
Speaker 7: discuss publicly. And that's it. That's the end of that
Speaker 7: that's the end of that article, and apparently that's the
Speaker 7: end of that story. All right, We are coming perilously
Speaker 7: close to the end of the program, So just a
Speaker 7: couple things to wrap up again. Thank you to all
Speaker 7: of our great guests today. Of course, we had Johnny
Speaker 7: Collins from Modesty Blaze in the first hour. In the
Speaker 7: second hour, Sofihaicle we talked about her new single and
Speaker 7: her new album coming up. And in the third hour,
Speaker 7: of course, we had the guys from Viva Los Villains,
Speaker 7: a big fan of theirs, and we had Alex from
Speaker 7: the Cherry Fog. That was a surprise, and we got
Speaker 7: to do a bonus world radio premiere Cherry FOG's newest single.
Speaker 7: So that was great. I really enjoyed today's show. I
Speaker 7: hope you enjoyed it. I will remind you if you
Speaker 7: are listening live on Saturday Tomorrow, Sunday Big WWE Premium
Speaker 7: live event Backlash is happening, and Sunday probably well geez
Speaker 7: because of backlash. I wonder if we'll still do it
Speaker 7: at the usual time. Anyway, we've been doing them Sundays
Speaker 7: at four pm. Maybe we'll do it earlier or later.
Speaker 7: I'm not sure, but Tough Bumps probably earlier if we're
Speaker 7: going to do it at a different time. Tough Bumps
Speaker 7: the podcast that I host with Eric Pilcher and of
Speaker 7: course Austin Hicks. You can hear that every Sunday we
Speaker 7: go live. Just keep an eye on social media. Again,
Speaker 7: that's completely separate from the radio station, but we do that.
Speaker 7: You can see it on YouTube and Facebook, and of
Speaker 7: course you can subscribe to that anywhere where you get
Speaker 7: your favorite podcasts. So please subscribe to Tough Bumps or
Speaker 7: like and subscribe if you're on YouTube. So we have
Speaker 7: plenty to talk about. We actually took last Sunday off
Speaker 7: because both the guys were not feeling well, so we
Speaker 7: will be back with a vengeance. I say this Sunday night,
Speaker 7: so please, and again make sure you check out the
Speaker 7: new website for the show, Matt Connorton on leash dot com.
Speaker 7: Also Matt connorton dot com if you want to keep
Speaker 7: up with everything that I'm doing. And oh and if
Speaker 7: you missed any part of today's show it we'll be
Speaker 7: up in just a little bit at wmnhradio dot org
Speaker 7: and of course at my website Matt connorton dot com
Speaker 7: and Matt Connorton on leash dot com. So there you go.
Speaker 7: Please follow me on social media all of that, you know,
Speaker 7: all this stuff. I think we're gonna end today's show
Speaker 7: with a little bit of Jerry and the Scumbags because
Speaker 7: we haven't played this track in a while. Unicycle. It
Speaker 7: is the radio edit, of course, and that's gonna do
Speaker 7: it for us for now. So thanks everybody, Love to
Speaker 7: you all, and we'll talk to you a little bit later.
Speaker 7: Bye bye.
Speaker 12: When I was a boy, all I think about this one,
Speaker 12: A stupid boy that I was.
Speaker 2: When I was a kid. I got my face up, damn,
Speaker 2: not boilets with the des out, Damn. I wasn't always
Speaker 2: a stool.
Speaker 13: Um but when I was I was a jump I didn't.
Speaker 2: Always okay, So I used to have him go fill
Speaker 2: man bus. I remember, roll the man sids and picks
Speaker 2: member Bob. It feels like someone that's shopping their sad
Speaker 2: fun all to my far.
Speaker 3: Right.
Speaker 2: Done your nest side call where no scene down, Bob me.
Speaker 5: Roll the live.
Speaker 12: I ride do you ness side.
Speaker 2: Go where no scene down? No body, roll up live.
