6:08 Speaker 13: in the world to fit their narrative. Like people have

6:12 Speaker 13: said many times that if you read the Bible, there's

6:14 Speaker 13: a lot of things that seem to be missing, and

6:17 Speaker 13: they've proven that it's been rewritten countless times. So what's

6:21 Speaker 13: real what's not? And I grew up in the Midwest,

6:25 Speaker 13: and the church was something that, you know, originally seemed

6:28 Speaker 13: like a good idea because it was something that I

6:30 Speaker 13: grew up in my with my family, but then it

6:33 Speaker 13: just became very poisonous to me. So it's an amalgamation

6:36 Speaker 13: of all the horrible things that people do in the

6:38 Speaker 13: name of religion.

7:26 Speaker 13: prominent and I wanted to put that into this song.

8:25 Speaker 13: being poisonous can blind people. So I wanted to make

8:32 Speaker 8: you know, I'm not a religious person myself, but I

8:35 Speaker 8: was I was raised Catholic, and I've always kind of

8:39 Speaker 8: thought of it as it's not that religion itself is bad,

8:43 Speaker 8: it's that what people do with it.

8:45 Speaker 13: Oh, absolutely, Yeah, the concept of religion is not a

8:50 Speaker 13: bad thing to me, because the whole point of Christianity

8:53 Speaker 13: is to treat people the way that you want to

8:55 Speaker 13: be treated and help people when they need it.

16:51 Speaker 13: got tremendously better. In a year's time frame, I also practice,

17:01 Speaker 13: a two hundred dollars microphone to a six hundred dollars microphone.

17:03 Speaker 6: You can clearly tell the difference.

17:06 Speaker 13: So there was a lot of a lot of time

17:09 Speaker 13: set aside to work on the things that I wanted

17:13 Speaker 13: to work on and practice the things that I wanted

17:15 Speaker 13: to practice, so that if I knew I was going

17:17 Speaker 13: to do this, I wanted to do it right, and

17:19 Speaker 13: I wanted to do it.

17:20 Speaker 8: Well, right right. And in terms of like you know, instrumentation,

17:27 Speaker 8: guitars and keyboards and everything, is that you is at him?

18:20 Speaker 13: meeting him, he was in a band called Asylum Black,

18:24 Speaker 13: which is an industrial metal band and they're also out

18:28 Speaker 13: of Texas, I believe, And that was back in the

18:31 Speaker 13: early early two thousands, back on MySpace days. So I

18:34 Speaker 13: was following him because of that, and then within the

18:38 Speaker 13: last couple of years. I don't remember exactly how I

18:42 Speaker 13: found him. I think I found him through like a

18:45 Speaker 13: mutual friend, like he was in a band with that guy,

18:47 Speaker 13: and I was like, oh, I remember this guy, so

18:49 Speaker 13: I added him. We started talking and that's how that started.

18:54 Speaker 13: And I should point out also because again this isn't

18:58 Speaker 13: released yet, but that is Joe with me on there vocally.

19:06 Speaker 13: underneath the cross they burn, his vocals are layered into

19:10 Speaker 13: mind so it sounds like two people. And then the

19:14 Speaker 13: part where it's underneath the altar voiceous cry that's Jonah

19:21 Speaker 13: the composition, as far as the idea, the imagery and

19:52 Speaker 13: So that made me feel good too, because you know,

19:55 Speaker 13: I'm When I told him, I was like, this is

19:58 Speaker 13: the reason I wanted to work with you in the

19:59 Speaker 13: first place, because Island Black. He was like, dude, I

20:43 Speaker 8: you've made some upgrades, like you said, in terms of

20:45 Speaker 8: the microphone and things that you've learned and things that

20:48 Speaker 8: he's learned too, I'm sure, But I mean, was the

20:50 Speaker 8: basic process similar?

20:51 Speaker 6: Basic process was similar?

20:53 Speaker 13: Yeah, but it was just you know, as we'll get

20:55 Speaker 13: into a little bit later, there were a lot of

20:57 Speaker 13: things that were going on during the timeframe of my

20:59 Speaker 13: life last year that I was kind of doing this.

21:03 Speaker 13: Originally I wanted to do it for me, but I

21:06 Speaker 13: was doing it for the wrong reasons. I was trying

21:08 Speaker 13: to impress certain people, you know, backstabby and snake Like

21:13 Speaker 13: I have no you know, affiliation with any of those

21:15 Speaker 13: people anymore. I completely cut them out of my life. Right,

21:18 Speaker 13: The basic process, yes, was similar. He didn't do any

21:23 Speaker 13: vocals though.

21:23 Speaker 8: Okay, gotcha, gotcha?

21:28 Speaker 8: what what's what's been, what's happened to you and what

21:39 Speaker 13: a better word, there was a lot of persecution type

21:45 Speaker 13: I was dealing with an ax of mine who is

21:49 Speaker 13: involved with the very far al right okay, and in

21:53 Speaker 13: and out of court type stuff. So a lot of

21:56 Speaker 13: the time frame that I was trying to work on music,

21:58 Speaker 13: I wasn't in.

21:59 Speaker 6: The right headspace. Yeah, that's mentally taxing as well.

22:03 Speaker 13: Oh yeah, I fell down a flight of stairs at

22:05 Speaker 13: my job, Oh my god, and broke my back and

22:08 Speaker 13: messed up my acl So wow. I had to completely

22:11 Speaker 13: just stop doing everything physical for a while. And then

22:15 Speaker 13: on top of that, I unfortunately got back into the

22:18 Speaker 13: drugs for a little while. And I'm you know, at

22:21 Speaker 13: this point, I think next month it'll be a year

22:23 Speaker 13: that I've been cleaned from that.

22:24 Speaker 8: Good for you, congratulations, Thanks, that's excellent, excellent.

22:27 Speaker 6: But I just I don't know.

22:28 Speaker 13: I completely changed my entire outlook on life, and I

22:31 Speaker 13: tried to be more positive and I don't associate with

22:34 Speaker 13: certain energies of people anymore.

22:37 Speaker 8: Yeah.

22:37 Speaker 13: If if you serve me no purpose, then I don't

22:39 Speaker 13: want anything to do with you, because if you're just negative,

22:41 Speaker 13: you're gonna drag me down.

22:42 Speaker 8: And I don't write that. Yeah, you don't need that negativity.

22:46 Speaker 8: I'm curious about that. So you actually broke your back's.

22:49 Speaker 13: Yeah, I slipped like a Lombard disc or two or

22:53 Speaker 13: something like that. Yeah, I fell down like a fourteen steps.

22:57 Speaker 6: I used to work for a like a delivery service

23:01 Speaker 13: So we would go to these restaurants all over New

23:04 Speaker 13: England and there was one in Boston that at the.

23:07 Speaker 6: Top of the stairs was slippery. And this is a problem.

23:11 Speaker 13: We had told them several times, like you're gonna make

23:12 Speaker 13: sure this is taking care of the standers. Yeah, and

23:15 Speaker 13: you're pushing a Dolly cart down the stairs with like,

23:18 Speaker 13: you know, three hundred plus pounds worth of stuff. And

23:21 Speaker 13: that's all it took is I started to go down.

23:49 Speaker 13: have to have like physical therapy and wear like braces

23:53 Speaker 13: and all that stuff, so it wasn't fun.

23:55 Speaker 8: I am curious. I mean, if you don't want to

23:57 Speaker 8: answer this, I understand, but I'll just ask you know,

24:00 Speaker 8: because you mentioned, you know, returning to returning to the

24:04 Speaker 8: drug use, and I'm curious if that was directly related

24:07 Speaker 8: to your injury, because you know, obviously I can only

24:12 Speaker 8: imagine the I can't imagine the pain that you must

24:15 Speaker 8: have been in.

24:16 Speaker 13: No, I wasn't directed because or related because of that.

24:19 Speaker 13: That was more because of the mental anguish that I

24:22 Speaker 13: was dealing with during the timeframe and all the people

24:24 Speaker 13: and thinking like people that you thought were your friends

24:27 Speaker 13: are stabbing you in the back and talking crap about

24:29 Speaker 13: you behind your back.

24:31 Speaker 6: That that was because of all of that.

24:32 Speaker 13: But just in general, everything that had been going on

24:36 Speaker 13: in the entire world during that timeframe was just too

24:39 Speaker 13: much to handle. And I hadn't touched I mean, I

24:43 Speaker 13: drink socially, I don't smoke weed really anymore or anything

24:49 Speaker 13: like that.

24:49 Speaker 6: So doing something like that.

24:53 Speaker 13: For the first time in almost two decades of my life,

24:56 Speaker 13: maybe a part of it was like, oh, I'm you know,

24:58 Speaker 13: I'm getting older, I'm almost my next decade of life.

25:01 Speaker 13: Am I trying to hold on to some form of

25:03 Speaker 13: younger self? And that was why a lot of the

25:06 Speaker 13: things that happened transformed me now into the person that

25:09 Speaker 13: I am is a complete opposite.

25:11 Speaker 6: It's more positive. It's about living life to the fullest.

25:13 Speaker 13: Yeah, so you know, and I've even reached out to

25:16 Speaker 13: other friends who struggle with addiction and trying to be like, hey,

25:19 Speaker 13: you need someone to talk to, hit me up anytime.

33:28 Speaker 8: practice and and you know, and I can. I can

33:31 Speaker 8: definitely hear the difference.

33:32 Speaker 5: You know.

33:32 Speaker 8: I still like that track a lot, but you know,

33:34 Speaker 8: you're also talking about maybe redoing it, and we we

33:36 Speaker 8: talked about that in the last segment. But but no,

33:39 Speaker 8: I think it's really good. But it would be interesting

33:41 Speaker 8: to hear a newer version of that with your your

33:43 Speaker 8: you know, your improved vocal ability. I've always been fascinated

33:47 Speaker 8: by people who can even do that with your voice.

33:49 Speaker 8: Is that difficult to learn to be able to because obviously,

33:54 Speaker 8: you know, when you're learning to to sing like that,

33:57 Speaker 8: to vocalize like that, you run the risk if you

34:01 Speaker 8: do it wrong. And I guess with any kind of

34:03 Speaker 8: singing really, but especially something like that where there's some

34:05 Speaker 8: you know, sort of a low growl, if you do

34:08 Speaker 8: it wrong, you could really screw up your vocal cords, right.

34:11 Speaker 6: Yeah, definitely.

34:14 Speaker 13: I mean some people naturally can do it and some

34:16 Speaker 13: people really have to put some time in the trick

34:20 Speaker 13: is using your diaphragm. Now, for me, I have found

34:26 Speaker 13: that I have a more natural like false chords fries scream,

34:32 Speaker 13: which is that more of sound.

34:34 Speaker 8: Yeah, And.

34:36 Speaker 13: My voice is naturally like more of a baritone, which

34:40 Speaker 13: is weird because when it comes to the lows, they're

34:44 Speaker 13: not that easy for me to do. Really, So everybody

34:47 Speaker 13: is different, and they always say like, you got to practice,

34:49 Speaker 13: practice makes perfect, But learning to use your diaphragm, that

34:52 Speaker 13: is the key to it. If you don't, you will

34:54 Speaker 13: mess up your throat. You will destroy your vocal cords.

34:57 Speaker 13: I have strained my vocal cords many time before.

35:01 Speaker 6: But I you know, I have.

35:03 Speaker 13: Friends who are also metal musicians. My buddy Ross is

35:07 Speaker 13: like a very very intelligent musician in person just in general.

35:13 Speaker 13: But he he is very good at what he does,

35:17 Speaker 13: and he has taught me a couple of tricks and

35:20 Speaker 13: said like, oh, well, you got to make sure that

35:21 Speaker 13: you're you're feeling this, and if you don't feel that,

35:24 Speaker 13: then you're using your throat.

35:25 Speaker 6: You're not using your diaphragm.

35:26 Speaker 8: Okay.

35:27 Speaker 13: So the trick is, like I said, using and learning

35:29 Speaker 13: to use your diaphragm, and then it's everybody has their

35:33 Speaker 13: own flare to what they do. Everybody has their own

35:37 Speaker 13: unique sound, but you got to find what your sound is.

35:41 Speaker 13: So when I originally did the beginning of the new

35:47 Speaker 13: song Sanctum, I tried a method of a Japanese artist

35:52 Speaker 13: that I really like, and I've seen him live and

35:55 Speaker 13: I've seen him do this, and I wanted to try

35:57 Speaker 13: seeing if I could do it what it would sound like,

35:59 Speaker 13: but you more less.

36:00 Speaker 6: Like vibrate your throat with your hand, like you're hitting

36:03 Speaker 6: yourself in the throat.

36:04 Speaker 8: Okay.

36:04 Speaker 13: So I tried that and it came out interesting, but

36:08 Speaker 13: it wasn't the sound that I wanted to go for.

36:10 Speaker 13: It was very creepy though, really. Yeah, but maybe I'll try,

36:13 Speaker 13: you know, and work with that idea later in the future.

36:17 Speaker 8: Yeah. Oh interesting. I am also curious about influences. I'm

36:23 Speaker 8: sure we talked about it last time. I don't remember, but.

36:25 Speaker 6: We talked about it.

36:28 Speaker 13: Last time. Yeah, But as far as like musical influences general,

36:34 Speaker 13: there's just there's too damn many. Yeah, for this kind

36:38 Speaker 13: of stuff, though, I would say there's definitely, like you know,

36:41 Speaker 13: there's there's more of that industrial aspect.

36:44 Speaker 6: There's there's relevance to.

36:47 Speaker 13: Stuff that I grew up listening to, Like the one

36:50 Speaker 13: that I keep hearing people talk about to me specifically

36:54 Speaker 13: when they've heard both of these is they think that

36:57 Speaker 13: it's very reminiscent of the band Velvet Ass said.

37:00 Speaker 8: Christ Okay, I'm not familiar.

37:02 Speaker 13: Yeah, they're they're an older bandol they've been around for

37:06 Speaker 13: quite some time, late eighties, early nineties. But what's ironic

37:10 Speaker 13: about that is, like I mean, I've listened to a

37:12 Speaker 13: couple of their songs. Yeah, I never really like called

37:15 Speaker 13: them an influencer, listened to them and said like, oh

37:18 Speaker 13: I really love this band.

37:19 Speaker 6: I've heard a couple of songs.

37:20 Speaker 8: Yeah.

37:21 Speaker 13: But when people are saying like you should go listen

37:22 Speaker 13: to this band because this sounds like that, some of

37:25 Speaker 13: that is probably going to naturally come out because you

37:27 Speaker 13: heard it once upon a time. But as far as

37:29 Speaker 13: like influences in general, like there's just too many. But

37:35 Speaker 13: like the guy was mentioned a minute ago, his name's Kio.

37:38 Speaker 13: He's the vocals of a Japanese band called Darrin Gray

37:41 Speaker 13: he has the most insane vocal range I've ever heard.

37:43 Speaker 6: He has like twelve different octaves.

37:45 Speaker 8: Really.

37:46 Speaker 13: I think we talked about this last time a little bit. Yeah,

37:48 Speaker 13: he learned to throat sing with monks and I don't know,

37:51 Speaker 13: it's just wow. He's just very fascinating to me. So

37:54 Speaker 13: I've I've watched interviews where he talks about how he

37:57 Speaker 13: does things. Yeah, so he's kind of an influence. There's

38:01 Speaker 13: there's just there's a lot of people that are influences

38:04 Speaker 13: to me. I also am a big fan of des

38:06 Speaker 13: Fafara from Cole Chamber and Double Driver. Ye, he has

38:11 Speaker 13: this nasty sound in his voice. Chad Gray from Hell Yeah,

38:16 Speaker 13: and mud Vane. He has a really big influence on me.

38:19 Speaker 13: I like the way that his you know, fry screams

38:22 Speaker 13: and false chords are So I try to take a

38:24 Speaker 13: little bit of of all of that also, like Nina Snails,

38:27 Speaker 13: Marilyn Manson, stuff like that. I try to take everything

38:30 Speaker 13: and mix it together and try to find my sound.

38:33 Speaker 8: Right right now, that makes sense. When you were when

38:39 Speaker 8: you were growing up, did you imagine I mean probably not,

38:42 Speaker 8: but because you told me about how how you grew up,

38:44 Speaker 8: But I mean, did you ever kind of imagine that

38:48 Speaker 8: this is what you'd be doing.

38:49 Speaker 6: This is something I've always wanted to do it.

38:51 Speaker 13: It's just because of where I came from, I wouldn't

38:55 Speaker 13: I didn't necessarily have the environment of musicians right. So

39:00 Speaker 13: if you want to make certain kinds of music, you

39:02 Speaker 13: got to go to where that scene is, right. And

39:06 Speaker 13: I'm not saying there's not an industrial metal scene out there,

39:09 Speaker 13: but you got to go to like Chicago, you got

39:13 Speaker 13: to go to Michigan, you got to go places like that.

39:16 Speaker 13: So I would do that and I would meet people

39:18 Speaker 13: through my travels at shows or whatever. But I never

39:21 Speaker 13: thought that it would bring me to New England and

39:23 Speaker 13: I would actually accomplish and be sitting here for the

39:26 Speaker 13: second time talking to you on a radio station. No,

39:28 Speaker 13: I didn't think that would ever happen. Yeah, but again,

39:30 Speaker 13: I've been to musicians on and off since I was

39:32 Speaker 13: fifteen years old. I've played in metal bands, I've played

39:36 Speaker 13: in folk, acoustic bands, electronic bands. Punk bands was the

39:41 Speaker 13: first thing I started out with. Ironically enough, we were

39:45 Speaker 13: talking about this earlier, but one of the first bands

39:48 Speaker 13: I ever played in was a Christian metal band, was it. Yeah,

39:51 Speaker 13: I'm trying to see if I can remember what the

39:53 Speaker 13: name was. Advocate the Martyr, I.

39:58 Speaker 6: Think is what it was.

39:59 Speaker 8: Advocate the Martyr.

40:00 Speaker 6: It was like a school name metal band. It was

40:02 Speaker 6: like Christian influence.

40:04 Speaker 8: There's some yeah, there's some good uh. I know some

40:06 Speaker 8: people will chuckle at that, but there's some really good

40:08 Speaker 8: Christian rock bands, you know. I used to years ago. Again,

40:12 Speaker 8: I'm not a religious person myself, but I worked for

40:15 Speaker 8: a promoter who was involved in I think now it's

40:17 Speaker 8: just called Soul Fest, but originally it was the Inside

40:19 Speaker 8: Out Soul Festival.

40:20 Speaker 6: Yeah, and a few.

40:21 Speaker 8: Summers in a row, I was, you know, because I

40:23 Speaker 8: was being paid, I worked that festival, and you know,

40:27 Speaker 8: I saw some bands I liked. There's some good stuff there.

40:30 Speaker 13: I saw the Christian metal band Red and Devil Driver

40:34 Speaker 13: before they were or not Devil Driver, Demon Slayer, whatever

40:40 Speaker 13: they're called.

40:41 Speaker 6: I think there's a big Christian metal band.

40:43 Speaker 13: I'm trying to remember what they're called, but Red was

40:46 Speaker 13: one of them, and I saw them before they were anybody.

40:50 Speaker 6: Yeah, and I think they're like now, like not even

40:54 Speaker 6: associated with Christianity, which is kind of ironic.

40:57 Speaker 13: But yeah, other influences that I just remembered like I

41:03 Speaker 13: grew up listening to a lot of the like like

41:06 Speaker 13: the timeframe when I was in high school, there was

41:09 Speaker 13: like alternative bands and stuff, but there was also that

41:13 Speaker 13: mid range two thousand and three, two thousand and five,

41:15 Speaker 13: that's when like that hardcore scene came in. That's when

41:20 Speaker 13: things started becoming more like bands like uh, what are

41:25 Speaker 13: they called Suicide Silence with Mitch Looker originally, Yeah, they

41:29 Speaker 13: were a huge influence on me. Other bands, like another

41:33 Speaker 13: Texas band ironically was oh man, I just lost my

41:38 Speaker 13: train of thought. Uh, I can't think of what that

41:42 Speaker 13: what they're called. Yeah, but a lot of a lot

41:44 Speaker 13: of bands, and it's just ironic that some of those

41:46 Speaker 13: bands are from Texas or whatever, and now I'm working

41:49 Speaker 13: with someone who's from Texas, you know.

41:52 Speaker 8: I don't know. I mean, there's a lot of good

41:54 Speaker 8: music that comes out of that that state. We've had,

41:57 Speaker 8: especially like Austin and Dallas Fort Worth. We've had a

42:02 Speaker 8: lot of guests who've joined us remotely, especially in the

42:05 Speaker 8: last couple of years, who are from Texas. I think

42:08 Speaker 8: actually I think last week we had somebody on from Austin.

42:12 Speaker 8: But yeah, there's a lot of great stuff you know

42:14 Speaker 8: that comes out of Texas, especially metal.

42:17 Speaker 13: Well that's what we were talking about last time. I

42:19 Speaker 13: think I said that Corpus Christy was the metal capital

42:22 Speaker 13: of the US. Yeah, I believe that's true.

42:24 Speaker 8: Yeah, Yeah, there's a lot of great stuff that comes

42:28 Speaker 8: out of there. If you're just joining us. We have

43:12 Speaker 13: we are now, excuse me, everything is completely shifted for

43:17 Speaker 13: the better. What I want to do now is release

43:21 Speaker 13: I think one more so there'll be three singles and

43:26 Speaker 13: then that timeframe either create something completely new, or like

43:32 Speaker 13: I had mentioned, maybe just remastering and remixing Eternal and

43:36 Speaker 13: then putting those three out there for the viewing public,

43:39 Speaker 13: and just promote as much as possible. Find live members,

43:42 Speaker 13: because I really want to do this live, and then

43:44 Speaker 13: from there make a music video. That is the plan,

43:49 Speaker 13: and then eventually, like right the rest of the album,

43:52 Speaker 13: promote it, go out play.

43:54 Speaker 6: I mean, that's the dream goal. But reality has a

43:57 Speaker 6: way of kicking you in the nuts.

43:59 Speaker 8: If you're determ to get there, you'll get there.
