Speaker 10: The the name city up to me, good stuff that
Speaker 10: is war Cry. The band is Pulsifier from Portland, Maine,
Speaker 10: and we're going to talk with them in just a moment.
Speaker 10: Welcome everybody. This is Matt Connorton Unleashed and we are
Speaker 10: live from the studios of wm NH ninety five point
Speaker 10: three FM and Glorious Manchester, New Hampshire. Today is Saturday,
Speaker 10: September six, twenty twenty five, and we have entered our
Speaker 10: number three New Marrow trace of the program and we've
Speaker 10: had a great show thus far and really looking forward
Speaker 10: to talking with Pulsifier. Let me get those uh those
Speaker 10: Mike's on here. Welcome everybody. Yeah, so let's see. So
Speaker 10: we have Mia, Chriz Sticks and Patrick.
Speaker 11: Yes, all right, very.
Speaker 10: Good I'm glad. I sometimes it's hard to you know,
Speaker 10: I talked to so many people over the course of
Speaker 10: the show. Sometimes I don't remember everybody's names accurately. But
Speaker 10: so I'm really glad you're all here and and that
Speaker 10: you made the drive. You know, obviously you know you're
Speaker 10: you're from out of state, So I mean not that
Speaker 10: Portland is like another part of the country or anything,
Speaker 10: but no, but I do appreciate. I appreciate you all
Speaker 10: coming down and yeah, thanks for having us. And I'm
Speaker 10: gonna get to see you live by the way at
Speaker 10: Swarmy Fest.
Speaker 11: Right, yes, yeah, we're very excited about that.
Speaker 4: Yeah.
Speaker 10: Yeah, that's gonna be November fifteenth, actually right across the
Speaker 10: street at Jewel.
Speaker 11: Yeah, we just saw it on the way over here.
Speaker 11: We just the club Jewel.
Speaker 10: Yes, yes, have you played there before?
Speaker 11: I don't think that we have.
Speaker 12: We have not? Is this band?
Speaker 13: No?
Speaker 7: Not?
Speaker 10: Is this oh? But as a different band? Yeah, I'm curious.
Speaker 10: Was what was the previous band?
Speaker 14: I was in a band called render back in the day. Okay, yeah, okay,
Speaker 14: we played there.
Speaker 12: With Frank Hannon.
Speaker 10: Frank Hannon I think I member Yeah okay, yeah, yeah,
Speaker 10: oh very cool. Now how so, how long has Pulsifier
Speaker 10: been around? Has Pulsifier have been around a while? Or yeah?
Speaker 11: What a couple of years now, just a couple of years,
Speaker 11: still pretty new. Oh okay, trying to get our music
Speaker 11: out there right right?
Speaker 10: How is that going in Portland? Because Portland's always had
Speaker 10: a pretty strong music scene, some good college stations there
Speaker 10: and whatnot.
Speaker 11: Hey yeah, actually yeah, southern central Maine, I think a
Speaker 11: really good live music see lots of good local bands. Yeah,
Speaker 11: always something going on.
Speaker 10: Yeah, of great bands, yeah, yeah, no doubt. Are are
Speaker 10: there bands there that you you know sometimes it happens organically.
Speaker 10: Are there bands there that you've kind of unofficially sort
Speaker 10: of teamed up with that you play a lot of
Speaker 10: shows with or what do you think, Chris?
Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, there there is a bunch of bands.
Speaker 11: It's a good sense of community. Yeah, everyone I think
Speaker 11: kind of supports each other.
Speaker 10: So that's good. Yeah. Yeah, like like who, like who
Speaker 10: are some other bands there.
Speaker 11: That Loki Okay?
Speaker 15: Yeah, okay, we played with low Key quite a lot
Speaker 15: in a band called in the Wind.
Speaker 14: Okay, yeah, band called Echo Ritual, Echo Ritual Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Speaker 14: I mean it's a bunch. I mean, you feel bad
Speaker 14: name it any because you leave a bunch of Yeah,
Speaker 14: there's so many.
Speaker 10: That's true. Yeah, I'm always interested in hearing about bands
Speaker 10: that we should that we should know about, not all
Speaker 10: of them. Yeah, yeah, Now is War right now? Do
Speaker 10: you have a full album out or an EP? Or
Speaker 10: have you just been releasing singles thus far?
Speaker 11: There's so many different album is coming out? What the
Speaker 11: end of this month?
Speaker 10: Oh really? Oh okay, so coming right up.
Speaker 11: Yes, we're very excited to get that out. But yeah,
Speaker 11: War I will be one of the songs on there.
Speaker 10: Will this be the first release from Pulsifier as a
Speaker 10: as a full album? Yes, okay, okay, excellent, excellent. We're
Speaker 10: gonna play in a little bit, uh, the first single
Speaker 10: which this will be the world radio premiere for that.
Speaker 10: We're very excited. But now, what what went into deciding
Speaker 10: to record a full album? Because we live in a
Speaker 10: time where you have so many different options as far
Speaker 10: as how you release music. You know, the various guests
Speaker 10: that we talked to on the show, some some just
Speaker 10: do singles, some do EPs, some do albums, Some release
Speaker 10: a series of singles that eventually become an album, which
Speaker 10: is kind of the inverse of how it used to be.
Speaker 10: It used to be, you know, you have an album
Speaker 10: and then you've got singles from that album. So what
Speaker 10: went into your decision as a band to say, let's
Speaker 10: let's do a full album.
Speaker 12: Well, the latter is kind of what we did.
Speaker 14: We started out doing singles, yeah, and then we were like, hey,
Speaker 14: we have enough to put together, let's let's do an
Speaker 14: actual physical copy that a lot of people ask for.
Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And so you're actually going to do
Speaker 10: physical colleges.
Speaker 11: Yeah, people still ask for that. I was surprised too, Yeah,
Speaker 11: but everything, Oh yeah, people want that physical CD has
Speaker 11: the artwork.
Speaker 10: And yeah, I've kind of come to the conclusion that
Speaker 10: that's an American phenomenon. And the reason I say that
Speaker 10: is because we also, in fact the last segment in
Speaker 10: the second hour, we interviewed a band called Brides from
Speaker 10: the UK, and we talked to a lot of bands
Speaker 10: from overseas, and it seems like everybody, everybody that we
Speaker 10: talked to from Europe, they they're like, oh, CDs are dead.
Speaker 10: You know, we're just releasing everything digitally. Nobody wants CDs anymore.
Speaker 10: And here it's been such a especially I think in
Speaker 10: the last five years maybe ten years. You know, there
Speaker 10: was a point where it seemed like CDs were dead
Speaker 10: here too. But then but then they've they've made a resurgence,
Speaker 10: and Vinyl of course had an even bigger resurgence.
Speaker 14: Say yeah, yeah, yeah, that's why we're making sure that
Speaker 14: our artwork for the CD is interesting as well.
Speaker 12: Yeah, more visuals.
Speaker 10: Yeah, okay, okay, good, good, Yeah, because that's something I
Speaker 10: always left like when I was a kid. You know,
Speaker 10: you open a CD or an album and you have
Speaker 10: the lyrics, and and if you're really a fan, you know,
Speaker 10: you'll go through and look at all the liner notes
Speaker 10: and you know you want to you want to know
Speaker 10: who their management company is, or who engineered the album
Speaker 10: or you know, if you really, if you really want
Speaker 10: to geek out on it, you know, so, which I did.
Speaker 10: Yeah that's great, that's great.
Speaker 12: Yeah.
Speaker 11: How many?
Speaker 10: So how many tracks on the album?
Speaker 11: I think this one has? Seven?
Speaker 12: Yeah?
Speaker 15: Seven?
Speaker 10: Seven? Okay, okay.
Speaker 11: Our songs are slightly younger than some so yeah seven.
Speaker 10: Okay, okay, Like what's the do you know, offhand, like,
Speaker 10: what's the longest track on the album?
Speaker 15: Six nineteen it's a venomous thing.
Speaker 10: Venomous thing. Oh yes, so I I played that for
Speaker 10: for those listening live. I did play that in the
Speaker 10: first hour today to kind of give people a creepy
Speaker 10: for because that's my favorite of the of the four
Speaker 10: that you sent me.
Speaker 13: That was it?
Speaker 10: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, no, that's a great song. I love
Speaker 10: the vocals on that. Who so in studio who obviously
Speaker 10: you know you're the lead singer. Who else is doing
Speaker 10: the backing vocals on that? Is that all you? Or
Speaker 10: are there other members singing?
Speaker 11: They recorded it? Yeah, he had me go back and
Speaker 11: add the harmony.
Speaker 10: Yet, Yeah, it sounded really good. It sounded really good.
Speaker 10: Is that challenging at all? Harmonizing with yourself that way?
Speaker 10: I've heard some singers say that can be like it's
Speaker 10: when you're it's easy to harmonize with somebody else, but
Speaker 10: when it's your own voice that you're listening to, it's
Speaker 10: challenging to do this.
Speaker 11: It's really tricky to do it live.
Speaker 10: Also, well, yeah, so what does happen live? Does everybody sing?
Speaker 10: Is it does to become a gang vocal thing or
Speaker 10: do you just use carry it yourself?
Speaker 11: Yeah? Yeah, just do the main vocal part.
Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, no, that's cool. So how did Pulsifier come together.
Speaker 10: You know, you mentioned a band that that used to
Speaker 10: be in Chris, But but how did how did the
Speaker 10: four of you because again, you know, Portland is such
Speaker 10: a great scene there, there's musicians everywhere, Like, how did
Speaker 10: the four of you coalesce to form this this unit?
Speaker 14: What was kind of the well I was, I was
Speaker 14: in a I was in a band called Signal to
Speaker 14: Noise for a while. I remember Signal to Noise still
Speaker 14: out there, still killing it.
Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, okay, So it was it was a deal
Speaker 12: where some of my.
Speaker 14: Music wasn't being brought to the front. Yeah, and my
Speaker 14: ladies like I can write with songs, so any.
Speaker 11: Riffs that they didn't use the opportunity to write.
Speaker 10: So so you had ideas, but you know, it kind
Speaker 10: of was it kind of a crowded situation where you've
Speaker 10: got you've got the people who write, and they don't
Speaker 10: kind of want to necessarily share that.
Speaker 12: That's right.
Speaker 14: Yeah, And and and so we would me and MEA
Speaker 14: would set the campfire. MO would write these songs and uh,
Speaker 14: and we're like, what are we doing? We gotta we
Speaker 14: gotta do our own comes up.
Speaker 11: With these guitar riffs that I can just feel what
Speaker 11: he's feeling and inspires me. And I had been writing
Speaker 11: poetry and stuff previously, so I thought I can.
Speaker 14: Write words for this and yeah, okay, yeah, and then
Speaker 14: we we looked for a while to get the you
Speaker 14: get these guys to jump on with us, and you know,
Speaker 14: the right the right fit is super important.
Speaker 12: The chemistry has to be right.
Speaker 10: Yeah.
Speaker 14: Yeah, because I really I built this band from second
Speaker 14: one to be a band, to be on a bus,
Speaker 14: to be touring constantly, so you know, not only musicians,
Speaker 14: but the chemistry, the thing had to be right.
Speaker 11: Yeah, like a family. Yeah, because we're all living together
Speaker 11: when we're on the bus, when we're on the road.
Speaker 10: So yeah, it's yeah. I think I had a phone
Speaker 10: conversation with you all once. I don't know if you remember,
Speaker 10: and you're about about about our radio stuff and then
Speaker 10: and I think you were you were on your way
Speaker 10: to a show or something.
Speaker 11: You were I remember that again because we were on
Speaker 11: the bus.
Speaker 10: Yeah, speak, Yeah, that's right. So how how far have
Speaker 10: you have you gone as far as story and like,
Speaker 10: where have you gone outside of outside of the area.
Speaker 15: Patrick can tell us that, Okay, yeah, we've we've gone
Speaker 15: through the whole country, you know, Our first tour was
Speaker 15: with Annville last year. That was I believe, uh feb
Speaker 15: you were no, No, that was all that was summer.
Speaker 15: That was August last year. And yeah, we did the
Speaker 15: whole East coast and they drove over to Texas and
Speaker 15: did Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, went up to Washington
Speaker 15: and then back across. We hit like uh, Detroit and
Speaker 15: Chicago and stuff and Ohio and Cleveland. So we really
Speaker 15: did the entire perimeter of the country and some of
Speaker 15: the stuff in the middle too. Wow, twenty six shows.
Speaker 15: That was a good one.
Speaker 10: Yeah.
Speaker 15: And the second tour was out in kind of like
Speaker 15: that was our our February tour of this year, and
Speaker 15: that was with Smile, Empty Soul and Tantrick and oh wow.
Speaker 15: Yeah it was amazing. Yeah, those our great guys, all
Speaker 15: of them. And yeah, that was like Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma,
Speaker 15: Arkansas area. And did another one with Anvil that was
Speaker 15: mostly the East coast right after that.
Speaker 10: That must have been fun.
Speaker 12: It's a blast. Yeah. Yeah, those guys are legendary. Yeah,
Speaker 12: always the one.
Speaker 10: Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 12: They treated us way better than they had.
Speaker 11: Yeah.
Speaker 10: Oh that's cool. That's excellent. Well I think we should.
Speaker 10: Uh so what should we know about this? About the
Speaker 10: new track this is going to be the first single
Speaker 10: from the album correct, barriers within within.
Speaker 11: Yes, So, this song was inspired by a Roomy quote
Speaker 11: which says, your task is not to seek for love,
Speaker 11: but merely to seek and find all the barriers within
Speaker 11: yourself that you have built against it. Okay, the words
Speaker 11: to this song were inspired by that quote.
Speaker 10: Oh, excellent, excellent, all right, so we're gonna play this
Speaker 10: and again. This is the world old radio premiere of
Speaker 10: this tract. All right, all right, Barriers within from Pulsifire.
Speaker 3: You are listening to Wuminate.
Speaker 12: World premiere.
Speaker 16: Your task is not to seek for love, merely to
Speaker 16: seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you
Speaker 16: have built against it.
Speaker 3: Seeking for marriers.
Speaker 17: Built within that g bus luck too far, render by
Speaker 17: us of a fliction, recognizing years, the hard squat, how
Speaker 17: the water the big.
Speaker 8: Gover pusty game starting over when it falls apart?
Speaker 5: How to water.
Speaker 3: Stand and crule? Where um been home sheltered? Where wld
Speaker 3: toy on the river? The stream jumped together could right
Speaker 3: of way?
Speaker 1: Twere we drained.
Speaker 5: Out of man up the.
Speaker 3: Bed of a stage to the strong A way could be.
Speaker 5: No water come o falls barrier.
Speaker 15: Still to so.
Speaker 3: Gathers separates us flooding so much lift and stands that
Speaker 3: never fields, leading into.
Speaker 17: Waters and running red having clan into Ni my friends
Speaker 17: floating further from the shore.
Speaker 7: Seeking comfort for sharp snapsircle rys for sure for so.
Speaker 3: See on the river, on the stream.
Speaker 8: Want together, Adam riding way.
Speaker 1: Where the dreams?
Speaker 3: How's that out there? Have a sad girl called spirals down.
Speaker 5: So long and.
Speaker 18: Round sing crowns that say, I swear to the south, so.
Speaker 5: Sure the river.
Speaker 3: Hum the stream, I didn't wait with very Let's call.
Speaker 1: Was lot the.
Speaker 5: Young con.
Speaker 3: Let's come.
Speaker 5: Love down.
Speaker 10: There. It is the world radio premiere of the new
Speaker 10: track from Pulsifier from the upcoming album that is called
Speaker 10: Barriers Within. I love it. That's very cool, very cool. Yeah,
Speaker 10: great job, great chob absolutely So when's the album out?
Speaker 10: You probably mentioned it, but I do.
Speaker 11: We haven't exacted or are we? Just the end of
Speaker 11: this month?
Speaker 12: The first single is going to be like the first
Speaker 12: weekend of October.
Speaker 10: Okay, yeah, gotcha, gotcha? And then oh so the first
Speaker 10: single yeah, and then and so you don't have it
Speaker 10: for me e t a on the album yet.
Speaker 12: Above the same time, we're going to go releast the
Speaker 12: whole thing.
Speaker 10: Yeah, any videos, if if you, if you all made
Speaker 10: any videos for these for any of these songs, because
Speaker 10: because the music, I mean, there's there's an element of
Speaker 10: I don't know if theatricality is quite the word, but but.
Speaker 11: That's definitely a good word.
Speaker 10: It seems like it seems like these songs would would
Speaker 10: lend themselves to that.
Speaker 11: Definitely. I agree, Yeah, I like the theatrics.
Speaker 12: Yeah, everything kind of in order. We haven't quite got there.
Speaker 12: We have a lyric video for for a Venomous Thing,
Speaker 12: but we've done a full video yet.
Speaker 11: Yeah, but the plans we definitely will you're going.
Speaker 10: To do one are okay? Yeah, okay, now that makes sense.
Speaker 15: It's kind of like a three step process where or
Speaker 15: we we've been advised to kind of do like a
Speaker 15: short teaser video as we're coming up to releasing the
Speaker 15: song before we release it, and then maybe a little later,
Speaker 15: do a lyric video for Barriers for the same song
Speaker 15: Barriers within yeah, and then a little after that do
Speaker 15: the full music video.
Speaker 10: Okay okay, and then what's what's the live show? Like
Speaker 10: I mean, are there any I guess, I guess uh.
Speaker 10: Theatrics said, yes.
Speaker 11: We definitely try to incorporate a lot of visual so
Speaker 11: there's something for people to watch, get right upon them. Okay,
Speaker 11: can you hear me?
Speaker 6: Now?
Speaker 10: You can pull it closer to you if it's easier,
Speaker 10: that's fine too. Yeah. I just want to make sure
Speaker 10: we try.
Speaker 11: To incorporate a lot of visual so people can you know,
Speaker 11: it helps to tell the story, yeah, goes along with
Speaker 11: the lyrics. So yeah, there's definitely some props involved.
Speaker 15: Okay, okay, have you seen any videos of our live performances. No,
Speaker 15: we have a ton on YouTube. Will a hundred videos
Speaker 15: on YouTube? Oh my god, you can see what we're
Speaker 15: all about.
Speaker 11: And each song and each song has its own feel,
Speaker 11: each song tells its own story, So there's props, there's visuals,
Speaker 11: there's stuff going on that that kind of recreate that
Speaker 11: and add to it, and we're hoping, yeah, that the
Speaker 11: audience will feel just immersed, yeah, rounded and a part
Speaker 11: of it.
Speaker 10: Yeah.
Speaker 14: A lot of these topics for these songs are not
Speaker 14: the norm, so it's it's it's nice to have the
Speaker 14: visuals to help explain you.
Speaker 11: The horse Head with War Cry like there's a meeting.
Speaker 11: It's not just about the horse head, right. That song,
Speaker 11: you know, was inspired by researching Alexander the Great's war horse,
Speaker 11: uciphilis really Yeah, if you ever look up the story
Speaker 11: of bucyphilis. He was afraid of his own shadow, and
Speaker 11: Alexander the Great learned if you turn him away from
Speaker 11: his shadow, turn his head to the sun. He became
Speaker 11: this great warrior. Yeah, and we just thought, you know,
Speaker 11: we could all apply that to our lives. We turn
Speaker 11: away from your own darkness.
Speaker 10: And interesting look to the light.
Speaker 11: So yeah, there's different props that represent stuff like that.
Speaker 10: Okay, okay, that's cool. What are some of the other
Speaker 10: lyrical themes that show up in these songs?
Speaker 11: Well, for example, distracted Gaze, the props for that are chains. Yeah,
Speaker 11: that's the song about anyone who's ever struggled, or who
Speaker 11: has known someone who has struggled, breaking free from the
Speaker 11: chains of addiction, whatever that addiction may be.
Speaker 10: That's relatable for a lot of people.
Speaker 11: Yeah, we always hope that with our songs. Yeah, there'll
Speaker 11: be something somebody can relate to. Yeah, and we'll have
Speaker 11: lived through themselves.
Speaker 10: Yeah. Yeah, does it ever happen? Where does anyone ever
Speaker 10: approach you and say, hey, that that song.
Speaker 11: Really after some of our lives shows, people have come up,
Speaker 11: and that is actually the best feeling, the best feedback
Speaker 11: when someone comes up. Sometimes after Scars, I've had people
Speaker 11: come up and share their own very like private personal
Speaker 11: stories of what they have gone through too and how
Speaker 11: the music has helped them not to feel so alone.
Speaker 12: Yeah, distracted gaze as well. Yeah really, Yeah, she's had
Speaker 12: to like spend moments with people like like they won't.
Speaker 11: Really they open up and share these yeah, like personally
Speaker 11: and we kind of have that connection which is so special, which.
Speaker 12: Is what we're looking for.
Speaker 10: Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 11: Yeah, kept in touch. There's a few people, yeah, who
Speaker 11: want to keep in touch and we still talk through.
Speaker 10: Some things and oh that's excellent. Yeah yeah it's great. Yeah, yeah,
Speaker 10: very good, very good. Well we should play maybe we
Speaker 10: should play that one scars. Should we give that a listen?
Speaker 12: Sure, that'd be great.
Speaker 10: We'll make that the next one. Yeah, here it is, Yeah,
Speaker 10: this this all. Yeah, this is a great track. This
Speaker 10: is a great track. If you're just joining us. We
Speaker 10: have Pulsifier here with us alive in studio and uh,
Speaker 10: we're gonna play this this is on the upcoming album too.
Speaker 10: I assume I assume these all are it is. Yes,
Speaker 10: did we by the way, what's the name of the
Speaker 10: album or did you say.
Speaker 12: Or we haven't? We haven't yet. We'll go say for
Speaker 12: the first time.
Speaker 11: Oh yeah, the name of the album will be a
Speaker 11: personas personas.
Speaker 10: Okay, very good? All right, So from the upcoming album Personas.
Speaker 10: Here it is, this is Scars and the band is
Speaker 10: Pulsifier Heaven.
Speaker 3: No, let's go on a statue. Hold on, du was
Speaker 3: never good enough. That's my staff. Give that it all
Speaker 3: to you. What don't action so mad?
Speaker 5: A bout boom put me hot? You thought her?
Speaker 3: Don't tut me out do matter?
Speaker 8: How ha?
Speaker 3: How is actor your b come?
Speaker 11: I wanted someone who loves me.
Speaker 3: You're finally.
Speaker 5: You'll know.
Speaker 3: No chushing me, because where to take emotion of reality?
Speaker 9: I've never got a long enough chef for anyone.
Speaker 3: Check is closed, heliums, time leaves Danny's later, whether or
Speaker 3: not he is gone.
Speaker 19: If we're not, no, I wouldn't damn waste a second glance,
Speaker 19: reaching a.
Speaker 8: Better place, second chat and somehow complete land new.
Speaker 3: Most days I don't.
Speaker 19: Even think of you, fucking criss a foot used to
Speaker 19: be Scott's.

Speaker 3: We could stamp, break, break the glass, change hold them.
Speaker 10: That is glass Cage. The band is Pulsifier and that
Speaker 10: is gonna be on the upcoming album. What's it called
Speaker 10: the end?
Speaker 11: Personas personas?
Speaker 10: Yes, I love it. That is that is really good.
Speaker 10: It's really good. Gets you move in, gets you move in.
Speaker 10: And we also heard Scars before that too, another great track.
Speaker 10: And uh, we got one more that we're gonna say
Speaker 10: for the end. But so we were talking off air
Speaker 10: while I was playing, and Chris, you were commenting, and
Speaker 10: this is something I noticed. So I'm glad you reminded
Speaker 10: me because I wanted to ask about this. When you're
Speaker 10: when you're soloing, you know there's not a second guitar
Speaker 10: track underneath. That's right, and which is an interesting decision
Speaker 10: because that's that's not what a lot of bands do,
Speaker 10: although some bands do that. But but you can can
Speaker 10: you explain, uh, because you were explaining it off Aaron,
Speaker 10: This was interesting to me. Why you make that choice.
Speaker 14: Yeah, it just allows the uh, the fantastic bass plane
Speaker 14: of Patrick to shine through where it should. Yeah, you know,
Speaker 14: we want to make sure that's heard, you know, not
Speaker 14: only in the uh in the souls, but.
Speaker 12: Through the songs as well.
Speaker 14: Yeah, and we did two or three passes for some
Speaker 14: of these songs, like hey, can you turn up the
Speaker 14: base a little bit more on this recording? Yeah, we
Speaker 14: want to make sure that it's there, and we want
Speaker 14: to make sure it's kind of like it simulates live sound.
Speaker 10: Yeah.
Speaker 12: Yeah, that's what we sound like.
Speaker 10: As a bass player myself. I commend you for that
Speaker 10: because because we we bass players don't get the respect
Speaker 10: we deserve.
Speaker 15: Right, my friends, now we're friends now, Yes.
Speaker 12: Yes, Patrick gets it, don't you worry.
Speaker 10: No, that's good. That's good.
Speaker 11: And then.
Speaker 10: So when you do is that is that the case
Speaker 10: with all those songs, like do you use it so
Speaker 10: you don't use the second guitar track on anything No, wow, okay, interesting, okay, No,
Speaker 10: that's yeah. No, I like that and it does. Yeah,
Speaker 10: it does. Let the whole rhythm section kind of come through,
Speaker 10: which was it Scars too? There's like, uh, there's a
Speaker 10: solo you do toward the end. Was it Scars or
Speaker 10: was it the one we played before that where it's
Speaker 10: like you kind of don't see it coming, like all
Speaker 10: of a sudden, you're playing and it's like, oh, I
Speaker 10: didn't expect a solo there.
Speaker 12: Yeah it was Barriers.
Speaker 10: Yeah, well it might have been. It probably was. Yeah,
Speaker 10: Actually it feels like yeah. And I was like and
Speaker 10: I was like, oh, that's cool. Oh it must have
Speaker 10: been Barriers because I hadn't heard that before now yeah,
Speaker 10: and so and because the other ones I'd already listened to,
Speaker 10: and I was kind of like, oh, but I like that.
Speaker 10: I like the surprise. You know, it fits right, but
Speaker 10: it's still kind of a surprise. It's like, oh, that
Speaker 10: solo kind of sneaks up on you. Yeah.
Speaker 14: That whole breakdown section is the part that Patrick had
Speaker 14: written Okay that I kind of played over the top
Speaker 14: of it.
Speaker 12: Yeah, you know, yeah, like, hey, what was that bass rif?
Speaker 12: Just play it? On the guitar and play a solo
Speaker 12: over it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I like that. Yeah.
Speaker 10: I'm kind of curious too about some of your influences
Speaker 10: as far as vocals, like who who did you listen
Speaker 10: to growing up? Or who do you listen to now?
Speaker 10: And who who?
Speaker 11: Kind of so many But yeah, we were talking about
Speaker 11: that where we all came from different backgrounds before we
Speaker 11: all got together. I was actually from a theater background
Speaker 11: before teaming up with these guys, so musical theater and
Speaker 11: community theater stuff like that since I was a kid.
Speaker 10: Yeah, So is that is that how you learn to
Speaker 10: sing basically and the way that you do?
Speaker 11: I used to say, I'm not necessarily a singer. I'm
Speaker 11: an actress. I can act like I can sing, and
Speaker 11: you know, lots of karaoke nights. Yeah, And I would
Speaker 11: say what I lack in talent, I make up for
Speaker 11: with enthusiasm.
Speaker 10: But so you didn't have any vocal any formal training
Speaker 10: as far as working with a vocal coach or anything.
Speaker 11: Not formal training now, you know, just yeah, just for fun, Yeah,
Speaker 11: singing along with the radio, karaoke nights, stuff like that.
Speaker 10: Yeah. Is there anyone who kind of inspires you in
Speaker 10: terms of how they sing, like I see, I hope
Speaker 10: this isn't too cliche, but I hear a little bit
Speaker 10: of Ann Wilson all right, thank you?
Speaker 11: Yes, yeah, yeah, that's a huge compliment. Yep, she's amazing,
Speaker 11: Amy Lee with avan essence love them. Yeah yeah, I
Speaker 11: grew up yeah in the nineties with that, Like that's
Speaker 11: a huge influence.
Speaker 10: Yeah.
Speaker 11: Alanis Morissette is such a good storyteller. Yes, yeah, just
Speaker 11: a lot.
Speaker 3: Yeah.
Speaker 10: And then so so who who are the primary writers?
Speaker 10: So is that the two of you?
Speaker 13: Is it?
Speaker 12: Well?
Speaker 10: As far as music, and.
Speaker 12: We all definitely do our own parts, that's their own part.
Speaker 9: Yeah.
Speaker 11: I write the words and sing them. Yeah, Chris does
Speaker 11: the guitar, riffs, Jay on drums, Patrick on bass, and
Speaker 11: we all you know, when we come together, it just
Speaker 11: grows into something new.
Speaker 12: Yeah. Right, it's no fun having one guy dictate everything.
Speaker 10: Yeah.
Speaker 14: I want to be inspired by the other guys in
Speaker 14: the room, people in the room. So I want everybody
Speaker 14: to do their own thing well as much as possible.
Speaker 14: Everybody has ideas.
Speaker 10: Oh yeah, well certainly, and again there's part of my
Speaker 10: bass by bias as a bass player. But you know,
Speaker 10: but but certainly it does sound like the rhythm section
Speaker 10: has a lot to do with how these songs. Oh yeah,
Speaker 10: flesh out because you know, both the bass and the drums.
Speaker 10: I mean you can really hear everything comes through and
Speaker 10: uh and it is definitely a part of the Pulsifier sound.
Speaker 14: Absolutely, Yeah, everybody playing off each other. You can hear
Speaker 14: like the bass does follows the drums or back and
Speaker 14: forth or whatever. Everybody's kind of Oh that's a cool part.
Speaker 14: Let me see if I can accent that. Yeah, a
Speaker 14: lot of lot to feel that way.
Speaker 10: Where does the name come from? By the way, Pulsifier
Speaker 10: Who came up with the name?
Speaker 12: Yeah?
Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, it has meaning though, do you want to
Speaker 11: explain it early?
Speaker 12: You can.
Speaker 11: The idea behind it was, you know that inspiration comes
Speaker 11: from not from just us personally, but from all around us. Yeah,
Speaker 11: and we take that inspiration and use it to make
Speaker 11: something new. You know, it passes through us as a
Speaker 11: band that we can share with everyone else as something different.
Speaker 10: Yeah, no, that makes sense.
Speaker 11: The vibrational pulse.
Speaker 12: Right right, so we add our own spin on the
Speaker 12: vibe and send it back out.
Speaker 10: Yeah okay. And then the name of the album personas,
Speaker 10: where where does that name come from personas.
Speaker 14: Oh, that's just it's that is because every song is
Speaker 14: kind of like it's kind of a each character of
Speaker 14: someone's personality. You know, if you go to work, you
Speaker 14: have one persona. If you want to rock stage, you're
Speaker 14: on another persona. And that's what this album is like.
Speaker 14: It's all these songs are are kind of like a
Speaker 14: journey of growth, Yeah, with different characters and different shadows
Speaker 14: that you have to deal with.
Speaker 11: The warrior, the lover, the the child, the animal, yeah,
Speaker 11: the inner voice, ye, shadow, all of it.
Speaker 10: Yeah, No, that's that's cool. When you when you play live,
Speaker 10: do you do you have any material that you haven't
Speaker 10: recorded that is part of your live set, because it
Speaker 10: sounds like you got a lot of ideas. You probably
Speaker 10: have lots of songs. I haven't red it yet, right.
Speaker 12: Yeah, we have way too many songs and really yeah, yeah, it's.
Speaker 15: So hard to decide which songs to put on the
Speaker 15: album because like in my opinion, and I think in
Speaker 15: all of our opinions, every single song is a banger,
Speaker 15: Like they can all be the single. None of them
Speaker 15: are filler. Yeah, So it was like almost a shame
Speaker 15: only doing seven songs.
Speaker 10: It's a good problem. To have. But yeah, it's like,
Speaker 10: I mean, how do you even decide when you've got
Speaker 10: I mean how hard? Yeah?
Speaker 11: Like which ones do we leave out? We don't want
Speaker 11: to leave any of them out? I want them all
Speaker 11: out there.
Speaker 10: How many songs do you have? Can you put a
Speaker 10: number on it? Like as a band originals?
Speaker 11: How many do you think? No finish?
Speaker 12: So I actually we.
Speaker 14: Actually try to prioritize and not like completely finish the song,
Speaker 14: and we live and we give it plenty times to grow.
Speaker 14: There's many songs we jam we are constantly jamming on.
Speaker 14: We have one called h I Have the Storm. It's
Speaker 14: been something we've been the new one. We've been just
Speaker 14: messing with that for months now. It's just slowly growing.
Speaker 12: It has to give. You have to give it time.
Speaker 15: You have to time to grow, like simmering in the pot.
Speaker 8: Yeah.
Speaker 14: Yeah, we came up with a new part on that
Speaker 14: song just a couple of weeks ago. It was it
Speaker 14: was like, oh, there we go, that's what we were
Speaker 14: looking forwards.
Speaker 12: Yeah, it's great.
Speaker 10: Yeah, where did did we talk about where you recorded? Where? Where?
Speaker 10: Where did you've recorded these? Because everything Halo Studio?
Speaker 11: Okay, John Wyman.
Speaker 10: Yeah, Okay, I want to make sure legendary. Everything sounds
Speaker 10: so good, so we want to make sure. Okay, so
Speaker 10: tell me. So I don't know about John Wyman, tell
Speaker 10: me about him.
Speaker 14: The halo is is world famous or infamous? Oh yeah, yeah,
Speaker 14: and yeah he's uh, he's done some done some pretty
Speaker 14: incredible stuff, especially with the local scene. But he's also
Speaker 14: also on National Guy. You know, I don't want to misspeak.
Speaker 14: I don't I can't say for sure. Some of the
Speaker 14: Nationalists done, but he's done.
Speaker 12: You know.
Speaker 14: I think the last one is big thing he did
Speaker 14: was pretty reckless stuff. I'm not okay, yeah, okay.
Speaker 10: So he's in Portland or is he? Where is he?
Speaker 12: Yeah? Non descript undisclosed buildings.
Speaker 11: Yeah, it looks like yeah, from the outside, you would
Speaker 11: not expect what's on the inside. I love that.
Speaker 12: Okay, Yeah, what a cool spot.
Speaker 10: Wow.
Speaker 12: Yeah, the good guy is amazing.
Speaker 10: And how did you come to work with him? How
Speaker 10: did that come about? Because because he's obviously a big.
Speaker 14: You know, yeah, it bled over from from my previous
Speaker 14: bands that I would I would call it there. Yeah, okay,
Speaker 14: oh cool, And I just knew that I'm not going
Speaker 14: to go anywhere else.
Speaker 12: That's the place to go.
Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, actually, yeah, it's such a good ear for details.
Speaker 10: Does he does he kind of become like, you know,
Speaker 10: because obviously every producer has their own style, everyone's different,
Speaker 10: everyone kind of has their own approach. Does he become
Speaker 10: like like that, like a fifth member of the band.
Speaker 12: Or he did? Yeah, yeah, he was.
Speaker 9: He was.
Speaker 12: Talking about doing the harmonies for for Scars.
Speaker 11: He gets excited and then you know, are like, we're
Speaker 11: onto something. Likes it.
Speaker 14: Yeah, she's be't doing her vocal stuff. And after you
Speaker 14: take Ea spins around, he's like, did you guys hear that?
Speaker 10: Yeah?
Speaker 12: That was that was fantastic. And you let me bring
Speaker 12: out my little player and show you the fists.
Speaker 11: And no kidd Yeah, and he'll play something.
Speaker 12: Very creative, so he gets the juices flowing as well.
Speaker 3: Brilliant.
Speaker 15: Yeah, and he has the most incredible ear too, Like
Speaker 15: your guitar could be out of tune by one cent
Speaker 15: and they'll be like, oh, no, tune not And you're like,
Speaker 15: what do you mean, Like it's imperfect?
Speaker 12: You know it's not.
Speaker 14: We're playing the live track and he's like, Patrick, your
Speaker 14: d string is off, it's flat.
Speaker 12: Yeah, I'm like, okay, not according to the tuner, it's not,
Speaker 12: but you're.
Speaker 11: Easy on you. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he gets the best
Speaker 11: out of you.
Speaker 10: Yeah, that's what it takes. It's but it's also good
Speaker 10: to you, good, good for you. It speaks you know,
Speaker 10: you're obviously mature as a band to be able to
Speaker 10: work with someone like because some people can't work with
Speaker 10: a producer like that, you know what I mean. Some
Speaker 10: people get resentful. They feel like, oh, this guy's trying
Speaker 10: to take over what I'm doing, you know what I mean.
Speaker 10: So for you to be able to go in and
Speaker 10: be open, you know, not everyone can go to him.
Speaker 11: We want that.
Speaker 14: Yeah, you've gotta be careful not to be too attached
Speaker 14: to your own ideas. It prevents growth and thought.
Speaker 12: You just have to go with that.
Speaker 11: But he lets us try too. That's another thing.
Speaker 4: I like.
Speaker 11: I'll be like, can I just try? I go be like,
Speaker 11: this is gonna sound really weird. Can I just try something?
Speaker 10: Yeah, And I'll be like.
Speaker 11: And then give me your feedback. If you don't like it,
Speaker 11: we'll cut it, take it. Lets me try stuff.
Speaker 10: I'm really glad I moved that filter. He sounds so
Speaker 10: much better.
Speaker 11: Let's start over.
Speaker 10: Yeah, but if you are just joining us. We have
Speaker 10: Pulsifier here with us alive in studio, and so what's
Speaker 10: kind of the do you know what the sort of
Speaker 10: the long term plan is? So the album will be
Speaker 10: out probably October, like what's kind.
Speaker 11: Of about October?
Speaker 10: And then you're gonna be hitting the road again or
Speaker 10: then we are hitting.
Speaker 11: The road again for another national tour. This one's called Rocktober.
Speaker 15: Okay, Scottie Austin from Saving Abel Oh.
Speaker 10: Okay, yeah, yeah, okay, So so tell us about this.
Speaker 10: Is this like a is it like a package tour,
Speaker 10: a festival or what like what?
Speaker 12: It's kind of a mixture? Yeah, he is.
Speaker 14: He is making a big push for one of one
Speaker 14: of his songs, so he has kind of like handpicked
Speaker 14: his favorite spots that he's played over the years. Oh
Speaker 14: and so this is gonna be like this ought to
Speaker 14: be a pretty interesting tour.
Speaker 10: Yeah.
Speaker 12: Yeah, you have a lot of support and he's wild.
Speaker 11: He's so fun to watch live. Yeah, a lot of fun,
Speaker 11: very entertaining.
Speaker 14: Yeah, we just did a show with him in Ohio
Speaker 14: and we were just standing out watching and he just
Speaker 14: looked at it. He's like, you guys are coming up
Speaker 14: with us.
Speaker 10: Oh that's very cool.
Speaker 11: Yeah, we had to run up, but we're in that
Speaker 11: half pipe. We're in there's a skate park. The stage
Speaker 11: was on the top of the half pipe, so he's like,
Speaker 11: come on up here, guys, and we like ran up
Speaker 11: the I jumped on stage.
Speaker 12: Yeah.
Speaker 10: He's quite character and great, great entertainer. Yeah, oh very cool.
Speaker 10: Are you on the full tour? Are you doing the
Speaker 10: whole run with him? Who on the whole way? Excellent?
Speaker 14: We actually have We actually have three more after that
Speaker 14: before April three one tours, so we're going to be
Speaker 14: busy through the yeah. Yeah, and after that we want
Speaker 14: to flip the script. We want to be on the
Speaker 14: other side of of the you know, instead of direct support.
Speaker 14: We want to see if we can, uh, what we
Speaker 14: can do as far as headlining a small club tour.
Speaker 12: Yeah, we're just kind of feeling it out, yeah, what
Speaker 12: we can do. Yeah.
Speaker 10: Yeah, so you're on the right path. Are you on
Speaker 10: a label by the way, as far as the album
Speaker 10: itself that's going to be coming out or is that
Speaker 10: all DI I Y or how are you doing that?
Speaker 10: Because there's so many Like we were talking about earlier,
Speaker 10: there's so many ways to release music. Now, there's so
Speaker 10: many ways to.
Speaker 12: Yeah, this this management, but there's no it's it would
Speaker 12: still technically independent. Yeah, it protects us the best.
Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, it does, absolutely does.
Speaker 14: There's no you know a lot of time, you know,
Speaker 14: you hear it over and over, there's no reason to
Speaker 14: have a label. I'm sure labels will disagree, and I'm
Speaker 14: sure that they can get you out there. But there's
Speaker 14: a there's always a back and forth, there's always a
Speaker 14: you always pay for it one way or another.
Speaker 10: It's always a risk too, because you know a label,
Speaker 10: you know, they might come along and offer you a
Speaker 10: bunch of you know, big advance for your album or
Speaker 10: whatever and that kind of thing, and the cash infusion
Speaker 10: is great, it can be, and they might, you know,
Speaker 10: they might make you famous. They also might have you
Speaker 10: record an album and then say we've changed our mind
Speaker 10: and shelve your album that you've worked on and you
Speaker 10: can't be heartbreak and you can't do anything with it.
Speaker 14: Oh yeah, hey, there's a there's already a hard rock
Speaker 14: album out. We're going to hold yours off until that
Speaker 14: runs its course. And oh yeah, there's a lot to it.
Speaker 10: There's so much that can go wrong. Yeah, and I'm
Speaker 10: not saying, you know, I mean, obviously, if the right
Speaker 10: deal came along, you know, you'd consider it, right, but
Speaker 10: absolutely yeah, But but you're being smart about it, you know.
Speaker 10: And and we live in a time where you don't
Speaker 10: have to wait for the right deal. You can just
Speaker 10: go make your own you know, go make your own way.
Speaker 10: And and so I think you're on a great path.
Speaker 10: I think you're Yeah.
Speaker 14: I mean, it comes to a point where in order
Speaker 14: to do some of the bigger things you have to
Speaker 14: be on the label. We're not quite there yet, so
Speaker 14: we're not worried about it. Yeah, yeah, no, I think
Speaker 14: so until then, we're gonna drive our own ship a
Speaker 14: little bit longer.
Speaker 10: There you go, There you go. No, I think that's
Speaker 10: the right approach. Absolutely so. And then we should remind
Speaker 10: people too about Swarmy Fest coming out November fifteenth.
Speaker 11: Yeah, Yes, November fifteenth. Swarmy Fast sounds like it's going
Speaker 11: to be amazing. Has the band Sepsis, Yeah, and a
Speaker 11: bunch of other bands and acts and performers.
Speaker 10: Silent Season is now co headlining with Sepsis, which is cool.
Speaker 10: We had them on recently and uh, yeah, they're they're great.
Speaker 11: We're very excited to be part of it.
Speaker 10: Yeah yeah, yeah, right across the street a Jewel and
Speaker 10: this show Matt Conderton Unleashed. We're one of the sponsors.
Speaker 10: This will be our third year.
Speaker 12: Very cool.
Speaker 10: Yeah yeah, so we'll be there, Jenny and I will
Speaker 10: be there, so yeah, really looking forward to that. So yeah,
Speaker 10: that'll be a fun.
Speaker 11: Yeah, we can't wait.
Speaker 15: Yeah, we've been trying to play with Stepsis for a
Speaker 15: little while, but we've had opportunities, but there's always just
Speaker 15: been you know, a wrench in the plans with timing.
Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, kind of coordinate. Yeah, who's free when? So yeah,
Speaker 11: we're very excited to team up with them and everyone
Speaker 11: who's part of it. Yeah yeah, everyone who comes out. Yeah,
Speaker 11: it's like, come on out and party with us.
Speaker 10: We're gonna have fun, absolutely absolutely, Well, the time goes quickly.
Speaker 10: We are approaching the top of the hour, and I
Speaker 10: want to make sure that we can get this last
Speaker 10: song and because we are going to play in a moment,
Speaker 10: we're gonna play Venomous Thing. Okay, So I need to
Speaker 10: know is there a story, like.
Speaker 11: What is a story behind everything?
Speaker 10: I need to know, especially this one, because like I said,
Speaker 10: this one's my favorite.
Speaker 11: Yes, there's a story behind every song that we do.
Speaker 11: So for this one for Venomous Thing, like we talked about,
Speaker 11: it was actually the first single that we released, and
Speaker 11: this song is really for anyone who's ever dealt with
Speaker 11: any type of toxic relationship, codependent relationship, and it's really
Speaker 11: about kind of looking at that whole relationship but also
Speaker 11: looking at yourself, like self reflection. And you know what
Speaker 11: part did I play? And like with most of our songs,
Speaker 11: it's you know, the the underlying element is also about
Speaker 11: becoming stronger and healing and just personal growth.
Speaker 10: Yeah, okay, okay, very good. I like the positive message
Speaker 10: and all of that, so, which seems to be a
Speaker 10: theme in your music. So I think that's amazing it is, yes,
Speaker 10: And also so before we play that, before we finish
Speaker 10: up one other thing, where's the best place for people
Speaker 10: to go online? Where should people go online? To keep
Speaker 10: up with everything Pulsifier is doing.
