But we did sound check before the show, so hopefully we're good. But, guys, welcome to the program.

8:26 Speaker 8: It's wonderful to have you guys here. And so we've got some new music. We just played Smoke Rises, and that's brand new, correct?

8:32 Speaker 7: That's it, yeah. We have a new album coming out this fall. Very excited for it. It's called Drink from the Lethe. And that's one of the first tracks I wrote for it, actually. That one's been hanging around for a little while now. Yeah, no, it's a great track. I love it. So tell us about the album title. Drink from Nalithi. I know our listeners aren't necessarily so talk, but anyways, are you fairly familiar with Greek mythology at all?

9:00 Speaker 8: Never paid much attention to it. I mean, I know who Zeus is. Yeah, that guy, yeah.

9:05 Speaker 7: I've seen the movie Clash of the Titans. I think you're ahead of me already. That's about it. That's all I know. That's great. So I'm going to educate you on some Greek mythology, something you've never needed and won't need again. But I heard something I write through often. I like using some of the imagery and stories from the Greek mythology. But this is going to lead into our title track, which we'll play for you. But the story of Delethe... It's the river of forgetfulness in the underworld.

9:40 Speaker 7: So the thought is that when someone dies, they pass the underworld and then those honored, I guess, but have the option to basically can stay in the underworld forever and have that be your afterlife. And there's different like tiers of, you know, where you could end up and whatever. Okay. Not really relevant to this, I suppose, but we're educating, okay?

10:04 Speaker 4: Yeah.

10:06 Speaker 7: But the thought with Lethe, right, is it's the river of forgetfulness and you would drink from it and you'd forget your life, everything that you've ever done, all the experience you've had, and you'd move on and be reborn in some shape or fashion. Okay. Uh, but you know, you leave yourself behind and become something new. Okay. Reincarnated is right. Essentially, essentially that. So it's whether you'd rather stay in the underworld and keep your memories and, you know, your soul and your existence, or if you're going to, you know, pass on to become something new and forget all of that.

10:45 Speaker 7: So that's, uh, The title track is called Lethe, and there's a second song called Lethe 2 on this album also. But that's kind of the core concept here. And a lot of these songs I've written about, this is a fairly dark album. A lot of songs were written about death. You know, I like to say it shows. The cheery stuff. Yeah, it shows I like to say that I'm trauma dumping on people. Right, right.

11:11 Speaker 11: Yeah, but it's in a way where it doesn't seem like trauma dumping because it's music.

11:15 Speaker 7: Except that I announced it, but yeah. Quincy, you've ruined the whole album now.

11:20 Speaker 5: Everyone knows.

11:24 Speaker 7: When does it come out, or is it out now? No, it's coming out this fall. I don't have the date for you yet. End of September, early October. I'm going to find a date that looks nice and right for me. Yeah, yeah. And we're going to do that. Excellent. We're going to rank our top ten dates each, and we're just going to see which one lines up.

11:41 Speaker 7: Well, very good, very good. And how many songs on the album? 12 songs. We got 12. Tanner knew there's two songs we had released previously as singles, but it was a while ago, and they never ended up on a full length. So we wanted them to be on the CDs, and we're going to print vinyls. And a track. And a track, yes.

12:01 Speaker 8: Where did you record? Because everything sounds incredible. I really want to know where you recorded these.

12:07 Speaker 7: A lot of it was my basement.

12:09 Speaker 5: Really?

12:09 Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.

12:11 Speaker 11: That is actually true.

12:12 Speaker 7: And your basement.

12:13 Speaker 1: Yep.

12:13 Speaker 11: So the two Justin basements where a lot of it was recorded, we had the drums tracked at Mojo Studios. Okay. So we had all the drums recorded there just because I feel like at least if you have really good sounding drums, the rest from there becomes a lot easier.

12:32 Speaker 7: Right, right. That's true.

12:33 Speaker 11: We went up and did that there and then the rest of it we all just recorded ourselves and Quincy did all the mixing and then I did the mastering.

12:41 Speaker 7: Okay, okay. Yeah, and our buddy Anthony Asimino up at Mojo Studios is a great friend, and we've done a lot of recording with him in the past. So he does a great job, and it's a good excuse to go up and hang.

12:53 Speaker 11: That's the real reason to go. It's just a good excuse to go hang out.

12:55 Speaker 7: Well, I had run into him at a... I went up to that show. He does some of the sound at Lake Maury in Fairleigh, Vermont. They've been doing a concert series there, and I ran into him last year and was like, whoa. I haven't seen you in forever. Didn't know you were going to be here. And he was like, yo, buddy. And, you know, we ended up deciding. I don't know why I'm looking at you. I'm not talking to my mic, but I'm going to go to the drums from there.

14:29 Speaker 9: When I built this, it was before I was playing live with the group, but we were pretty sure that was going to happen. And I was like, oh, I really want to put the logo in the front. And I was like, well, how am I going to do this if these guys are like, no, you're crap. Leave. I'm going to be stuck with this keyboard that says they're banned. And I was like, oh, so this is actually... That would be hilarious.

Oh, yeah, yeah, please. Because I'm here to blab, I suppose. So I talked about the Lethe and forgetting and moving on, whatever, and that decision that one would make in the underworld and uh when i got into this and what's uh spurred this specific song which is the title track for the album uh my grandmother had died a couple years ago and uh i love my grandmother and she you know she had a lot of joy in her life and she did a lot for us but uh i felt like she never really did the things that she wanted to do in her life and she was never really uh satisfied and she put a lot of effort i think into making sure that we had some of the things that she didn't, and we had the freedom to make some of the choices that she didn't, but in my process of grieving, I was reading about that Greek mythology, and I was having a thought, if that was a real thing, I don't believe in any afterlife in reality, but if that was a thing, would she even hesitate to say yes?

16:26 Speaker 7: you know, forget everything that had happened in her life. So that's in my process of grieving something that was, you know, going through my head. And that's where this song came from. So this one's called Lethe.

They do a lot of events in Nashua. I've played a few shows for them before. They do the Farmer's Market, and they asked us to come play, and we're very excited for it.

30:08 Speaker 7: I think this is the last show of the summer concert series for the Riverwalk there. Oh, okay. It's the new park that they just finished in Nashua, so it's a lovely place. We're excited to be there. It's going to be a beautiful night for it.

33:01 Speaker 11: That's always, like, the showstopper of the band is every time we play out, somebody runs over and is like, that thing's crazy.

33:10 Speaker 9: Like, when I got this, it was because, like, when I built this, yeah. It was like, you know, every other band I've played live with, overwhelming majority have been on bass.

33:22 Speaker 7: Yeah.

33:23 Speaker 9: And, like, keys is a very stationary instrument.

33:25 Speaker 1: Yeah.

33:26 Speaker 9: And i'm like that's boring i don't want to stay in one place right like i want to have fun on stage and be lively yeah um and so yeah this was like a weekend build for me yeah and yeah the amount of comments i get about it absolutely blow my mind like i thought you know you get like ah and then like that's it right you know you'd never hear about it but people yeah come up to our shows after and wow, the keyboard spins. That's amazing. And I'm like, oh, okay.

33:52 Speaker 7: Thanks, man. We've played with a lot of bands and had a lot of people see us. And then the next time they see us, they're like, oh, you're the guys with the spinning keyboard. You're the keyboard people. We are the spinning keyboard band. That's what people remember, yeah. You're going to tell people where you got the inspiration? Oh, yeah.

34:09 Speaker 9: Yeah, so I got the inspiration from Styx, which is a pretty heavy influence for both Quincy and I. I'm pointing to him for... there are radio listeners that can't see me doing that. Um, but yeah, uh, sticks is a pretty heavy influence for both Quincy and myself.

34:25 Speaker 9: And their keyboardist, Larry Gowan has a spinning keyboard, which I mean, they have a full setup. Like they're, well, they have semi trucks and people.

34:32 Speaker 7: They're very rich.

34:34 Speaker 9: Like, how do I fit this into my Mazda crap?

34:37 Speaker 5: Right.

34:38 Speaker 9: Um, but you know, so that was like, you know, when I saw them and he had that and I was like, you know, 14 at the time or something, um, I was like, wow, that's cool. And now that I'm in my 30s, I'm still just like, I want one.

34:51 Speaker 9: And so, yeah, so I built it. And, you know, I think one person at a show actually was like, wow, they're like sticks. And I was like, really?

35:01 Speaker 7: Oh, that's cool.

35:02 Speaker 9: It was a band that played before us. And I was just like, yeah, I'm like the Timu Larry Gowing because I have like an eighth.

35:09 Speaker 11: I think the important thing to take away here too is it's never too late to build a silly thing.

I had initially written it as being lyrics about the Man Ray, which at the time had been closed in Boston for ages. It was something people talked about. But then it reopened. I'm like, I'm not doing that. So I came up with Sunset Electric, which was an imaginary club.
